Alzaya is a boutique label from Milan that has put out a select few EPs over the last three years from names such as Paula Tape. Now it kicks off a new Various Artist series with five quality tunes. Akasha System's 'Midnight Tide' is a nice neon-lit future tech cut with bubbling, soft focus melodies. Tape Hiss offers the old school piano laced joy of 'Scirocco' and Manuel Darquart slips into deep cosmic house lushness with 'Low Tide.' The mellifluous melodies keep on coming with Cosmic Cherry and Nicodemo who offer a pair of sleek and stylish sounds.

Dried Fruit (5:43)
Powder (5:58)
Review: Nail is one of UK house music's most vital contributors. His raw sound pioneered a new style of tech house in the 90s and here he reappears under a different alias, AM Vibe. 'Vibe With Me' kicks off with nice loose drums and perc and jazzy keys adding the warmth and soul. 'I'm So High' brings some loopy and filtered fun and phased vocals for a sleazy feel, then 'Dried Fruit' gets more upbeat with lush synth swirls and effortlessly cool drums and rich r&b vocal samples. 'Powder' closes out with some thumping kicks and more tender vocal stabs. As always, this is brilliantly heartfelt and effective tackle from Nail.

Going Home
Review: ***B-STOCK: Slight surface marks ***

Since launching in early 2020, archival techno specialists Back to Life has reissued some genuine gems from the likes of Ron Trent and Chez Damier, Bam Bam, G-Man and Leo Anibaldi. Their latest missive comes courtesy of the effervescent John Beltran and his lesser-known Nostalgic project. What we get is fully remastered versions of a trio of tracks from 2006's Going Home EP. On the A-side you'll find the original EP's standout cut, 'Placid Angles', a deliciously dreamy chunk of house-tempo Motor City techno rich in undulating analogue bass, sunny chords and intergalactic melodies. It's backed on side B by short IDM number 'Detroit Movements' and 'Going Home', a superbly emotive, atmospheric and immersive sci-fi techno number that's as blissful and positive as they come.

Review: Tony Black's latest single, 'Sexy Lady,' released on FullTime Production, is a vibrant blend of disco, funk, and house. The track features standout vocals from Nadyne Rush and Jacob A, adding a soulful touch to its infectious beat. 'Sexy Lady' is instantly memorable, capturing the essence of each genre it fuses. The remix contributions by Italian producer Da Lukas deliver powerful club-ready versions, with the Da Lukas remix and Da Lukas vocalize remix both offering distinctive grooves. Souls Groove's mix brings out the funk and soul elements, showcasing the more musical side. Each version of the track adds its own unique flavour, making 'Sexy Lady' a versatile release.

Review: The second various artists EP from the Merkwurdig label is another tasteful collection of up front sounds from a clutch of inquisitive underground names. Body opens up with some nice cosmic tech powered by rasping bass and reverberating synths. Nate SU's 'Neutrino' is a busy jam with hooky synths and splashy cymbals that takes on a twisted sense of cyborg funk. Review: The well-formed young Mostly label continues to stride onwards into fresh deep house territories with its latest various artists EP. System T aka Bs As Deep kicks things off and toys with classic tropes but brings some newness to the rhythms, while the same artist then appears under his other alias for 'Love For The House' which is a percussive, slinky number with molten synths and smooth bass. Review: Sushitech never serves up anything less than high-class tech, house and dub and that is once more the case with the latest reissue project. This one turns its attention to a 1999 gem by Land-based Get Fucked. Originally dropped on the Eukahouse label and soon beaching a cult classic of the new millennium, it now arrives on a fresh 10" in two different forms. Up first is 'Dreams Are Made' Sweet Mix which is stylish deep tech with muffled vocals and heady pads, then Kenneth Graham brings his 'She Likes To Ed-It remix' to the flip and makes things even more deep and dubby.

These tunes dropped in original from back in 1999 on Eukahouse and have since become cult classics. First is an unreleased Sweet mix of 'Dreams Are Made' which is lush, dubbed out tech with some magnificent jazz chords. Fresh French label Attention Spin! flaunts the talents of the Parisian underground in its freshest incarnation. Currently turning their focus towards cosmic house music with hints of Italo and new beat, as well as aiming to prioritize dance music that uses vocals as an instrument, their first release here is a four-track EP from rising star DJ Dawidu. The likes of 'Une Nuit A Paris' and 'Mad Game' detail the wilder, undergrounder ends of after-hours nightlife in the Capitale de la Mode. 'Half On A Room', meanwhile, spans dub- and hip-house, while 'Lil'Drama' is the most vocal and catwalk-worthy of the bunch.

Arque - "Sonido Del Alla" (5:28)
Review: Planka Records invites the listener to lend an ear to a life story with the 'Clandestine Club' EP, likening the enjoyment of the act of meeting to rave with that of hatching a gunpowder plot, doing swell justice to the motif of "underground" music. The music is apt enough to evoke this, with its cold waves of all-hallowed icesynth and analog horror motifs - instantly reflected in the opening tracks, Juaan's 'Perdido' and Natural Goofy's 'Voces Del Futuro' - truly giving off the sense of this being some apocryphal occult style having been driven underground. The B-siders, Alfred Holanda's 'Haribo' and Mas' 'Dangerosso', continue to post notes from down there, continuing the mood of a driven embolism, an involuntary movement of joy and feeling, despite the misanthropy that suffuses the record's hard skeletal, nigh existentially carapaced sound.

This EP showcases the label's diverse musical philosophy, featuring two tracks from legends Francesco Farfa and Miki (with collaborators Niki IL B and Andrea Melly) and two tracks from emerging talents Luca Piermattei and Lucio. Side-1 opens with 432 Birds' by Miki, Andrea Melly, and Niki IL B, a hypnotic track perfect for setting a sci-fi atmosphere. Following is Francesco Farfa's 'Fear,' a groovy, bassline-heavy tune with a trancey melody that keeps the energy high. Side-2 features Luca Piermattei's 'Magical Year,; a track that continues the EP's entrancing vibe. The closing track, Lucio's 'Paranoid Hills,' is a wicked and ominous techno piece infused with psy trance elements, offering a dark, compelling end to the night. Diggers Society Vol 1 is a really cool take on the future of techno and trance equally.

Shout out to brand new label Planka that opens its account with the perfect entitled Funderground EP. It's a various artist affair that welcomes some new names (to us) to the scene and first to go and first to impress is Moray. Review: The second compilation from this San Diego label delivers four tracks that do a great job of blending vintage sounds and fun, spirited house and techno. Side-1 begins with Mungo Sound Machine's 'See You Next Thursday', a track that captures the spirit of west coast 90s house with a modern twist. Its acid-tinged groove and crisp production set the tone perfectly. Chuwee's 'DX Tornado' follows, with a classy, spacey vibe driven by a catchy keyboard hookipossibly a nod to the DX synthesiseripaired with tight, polished rhythms. On the flip side, J Feierabend's 'Listen' blends house with touches of electro, evoking Metro Area's rhythmic finesse. The vocoder adds a nostalgic yet fresh touch, giving us many disco memories. Closing the release, Local DJ & Natebytheway's 'PB Saucers' takes listeners into late-night territory with its melodic keys, spacey soundscapes and funky, trippy energy. This compilation shows why this label is one to watch in the coming years.

Opener 'Cherry On Top' has a nice gentle Balearic feel with vocals off in the distance and supple piano chords in the foreground next to more widescreen synth smears. 'Tequila Sunrise' brings organ lines to the fore with a 90s New York feel while more Balearic energy comes from the lead sax. Review: Nail Tolliday aka Nail is a house music don who rose to prominence back in the 90s with the cult DiY collective out of Nottingham, but also worked as one half of downtempo pair Bent. He disappeared for a while but then return a decade or so ago and since then has been turning out the jams on a regular basis for several different and respected labels. Now he takes matters into his own hands by launching his own imprint In The Dance. Four effective, stylish cuts mark its debut, from the raw, stripped-back sound of 'Grumble' to the more light and airy drums of 'Highly', the punchy kicks and balmy chords of 'No Windows' and on to closer 'Pretty Thing' with its mix of hefty grooves and more whimsical pads. It is underground house mainstay and DiY Discs legend Nail who steps up first with a much more breezy and balmy sound than you would expect but it sure is lush. It is, of course, rather good, with the pair once again offering a collection of retro-futurist workouts that blend early 90s house sounds and late 90s tech-house tropes with plenty of ear-catching samples and agreeable melodic motifs. You'll find plenty of fine fare amongst the five tracks on show, from breakbeat house style opener 'Most Perfect' (where a squelchy bassline, floatation tank synths and eyes-closed vocal snippets catch the ear) and Clav-sporting garage-house shuffler 'Track 3', to the organ-rich MK goes tech-house flex of 'Laurent' and the fiendishly sub-heavy 'Body Body'.

You might think that you could cop a copy of New Order's seminal hit 'Blue Monday' fairly easily and cheaply given its ubiquity over the years. But no, copies in good condition still fetch around 50 quid, so this remastered reissue is well worth a cop. The single's iconic bassline and twitchy synth modulations very much soundtrack a generation, if not an entire youth revolution, but still enliven any dance floor many years later. What's more, the de-humanised vocals will always provide real singalong joy. On the flip is a 'The Beach', which is drenched in echo and reverb and general sonic filth.

A new retro-futuristic outing by veteran dance music exec Neil Rushton marks his latest configuration in techno, which has kept mutant ever since the DJ broke from his infamous, 1970s Northern soul label Inferno. If Inferno was a glittery bodysuit, Anorax is like blast-protective PPE. Here Rushton welcomes Mark Archer and Chris Peat aka Nexus 21 back to the fold. Emissaries of the Salford dance music circuit, Nexus 21 have always harked a frontier-scouring, centennial vibe in sound. Their latest release is reissued from 2008, though the Network Records original only cut it to B-side: 'Self-Hypnosis' is a semiconscious auto-state in sound, bringing jam-born orchestra-stabs and sprung synth toms to a strange brew. We're left spiral-eyed.

American Anthony Nicholson is one of the underground's most noxiously outspoken characters, especially during his days with the Dope Jams record store where he would right diss notes on 12"s and LPs he didn't like. Thankfully his own work is up to scratch and now the veteran becomes part of the Yoruba family. 'Nucleus Scene1' is his contribution - a signature deep house cut laced with real soul, jazzy chords and life-affirming melodies in a vibrant arrangement. The Yoruba Soul Mix gets even more soulful and mind-expanding with its funky guitar riffs and then Cee ElAssaad brings the Afro house vibes with some extra piano. Great stuff.

On Side-2, 'Samplexity' delves deeper into progressive territory with intricate sampling techniques, while Niko S's solo track "Choughacid" takes listeners on a techno trance journey. Overall, Double Trouble is a sublime example to the duo's creativity and their ability to push boundaries within the progressive house genre.

JR From Dallas & Justnique - "Detroit Drums" (4:27)
Review: The Lisztogrooves series is back and we're glad about it. The first one was essential and this follow-up from Igor Gonya's label features a blend of heavy hitters next to some cool emerging talents. Opening with Manuel Sahagun's smooth deep house track 'Get Yourself' things move on to a taste of US house from Human By Nature, who serves up a rich atmosphere and nostalgic 90s piano riffs. The A-side finishes strong with Gramophonedzie's high-energy jackin' filter workout then on the B-side, French producer Naux creates a deep groove built around chord stabs. Stogov follows with the soulful 'Walking Wide' while JR From Dallas and Justnique wrap up the EP with a seductive deep house finale.

Noha - "Madison Street 932" (7:00)
DeWinter & Emma - "Unity" (7:30)
C&K - "Over The Hill" (6:21)
Review: Brooklyn Sway's sixth release proves the label's still firing on all cylinders, bringing together a mix of local and international talent with the same vibrant energy that's defined Bucktown's underground sound. The record kicks off with a wise nod from house legend David Morales, setting the tone for a compilation that pulses with afterhours energy. St. Xose flips his own BKS-01 entry into a smooth, strutting electro number. Nathan Nothing's ghostly vocals drift through the spaces left by broken beats and a steady bassline, keeping things hypnotic and punchy all at once. Noha's 'Madison Street 932' continues the local theme, with a funky, sample-heavy house track that's got Bucktown written all over it. The PanickPanick! head turns out a perfect late-night groove, blending chunky beats with chopped-up vocal stabs, the kind of track that feels equally at home on the streets or in a darker club space. DeWinter & Emma return with 'Unity', a slow-burner that layers spoken word Spanish vocals over snappy snares and a cavernous bassline. It takes its time, but when the English vocals and kick drum land in the second half, it locks into place with a satisfying thump. Connie & Karina, or C&K, close things out with a dub-heavy house cut that's all about subtlety. Hand drums, reverb, and a warm trombone line sway together, creating an easy-going groove that feels refined yet playful. Brooklyn Sway's latest outing shows the label has no intention of slowing down, with tracks that celebrate the city's spirit while pushing boundaries.

Review: Those on London's crate-digging underground should be well aware of Tangent, an eclectic, anything-goes party created by esteemed record collectors John Gomez and Nick The Record. With a little help from Mr Bongo, they've curated this compilation featuring some of their favourite selections from the party - the vast majority of which are either obscure, rare or overlooked. It's a predictably impressive selection all told, with the pair bouncing between digital reggae-infused global grooves (Srirajah Soundsystem), mid-80s French jazz-funk-synth-pop fusion (an exclusive edit of Leo Basel), quirky riffs of the Pointer Sisters (Marc Thornhill's 'Automatic'-inspired 'No Way To Control It'), zouk, proto-house-era Balearic brilliance (Androo), squelchy AOR synth-disco (Hidrogenesse), heavy Latin percussion workouts (Conjuto Balurantes), dub (Lee Jackson Band) and much more besides.

Review: Melbourne's Nice Girl (real name Ruby Kerkhofs) has been of the Public Possession family for four years. In that time, she's released a handful of admirable singles and a pair of albums that showcase her distinctive, attractive and well-crafted take on house music. On Yummy, her third full-length, Kerkhofs continues on this theme, bouncing between autotune-sporting electronic colour (the blissful 'Walk In Walk Out'), heady and hypnotic, techno-tempo beauty ('Departure'), deep synth-pop ('My Feeling'), sun-splashed, saucer-eyed lusciousness ('Sonething'), sparkling electronic ambience ('Take a Break', '49'), cheeky nu-disco ('Watcha Do') and high-octane boundary-blurring cheeriness ('Yummy'). Best of all, though, is the techno-meets-progressive house joy of killer closing cut 'Pot Red').
