The Movement EP
The Movement EP (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: SELBLM. Rel: 05 Oct 20
Kai Alce - "Hear The Waves" (5:28)
Demuir - "Furacao Dento" (7:15)
Nick Holder - "America" (6:28)
83 West - "My Sound (redux)" (6:56)
Review: All proceeds and profits from this new drop on Selections will be donated to Black Lives Matter charities, making it an even more appealing offer beyond the sheer quality of the house heads gathered together here. The mighty Kai Alce leads the charge with the sweet and bumping 'Hear The Waves', which is followed up by the punchy but warm 'Furacao Dento' by Demuir. Nick Holder opens the B side up with a killer slice of broken beat house, all crooked percussion locked into a deep, rolling groove. 83 West finishes the record off with a teasing, slow-release heater that keeps the energy simmering throughout - a masterfully executed cut to hold the dancefloor under a spell.

Please Me EP
Cat: KWR 001. Rel: 31 Oct 17
Stand Up (Your Life) (7:58)
Please Me (7:05)
Love Me - Now (6:32)
Review: Tech-house queen Cassy aka Catherine Britton launches her own label, Kwench, after a decade of non-stop hits for the likes of Perlon, Uzuri and Aus Music. She has already launched her own imprint, Cassy, but this feels like a much more all-encompassing affair, teaming up with new talents and working on new beats for the next decade. The artists collaborates with Demuir on this new EP, opening the festivities with the relentless loops of "Stand Up (Your Life)", a bass-heavy looper for the big room! "Please Me" is an utter beauty, charged and driven forwards by a fuzzy bass loop that keeps on giving, whereas "Love Me - Now" turns to the deeper end of the house spectrum, bouncing back and forth with a magnetic - and utterly funky - bassline.

Demuir - "Let's Get In It" (7:16)
Black Loops - "French Affair" (6:24)
Hotmood - "Voyage To The Onda" (6:41)
COEO - "Azzurro" (7:37)
Review: The team behind upstart imprint De La Groove has done a fine job on this compilation style extravaganza, which features tracks from an impressive selection of hotly tipped producers. Highlights include the bouncy, shirts-off loop-disco of Cody Currie's "ACE, At The Point of Collapse", the super-groovy, jazz-flecked deep house warmth of Demuir's "Let's Get In It", the effervescent sweetness of Black Loops' summery roller "French Affair", and the fluttering flute solos of Hotmood's goodtime jazz-funk revision "Voyage To The Onda". The purest expression of jazzy, smoky deep house is provided by COEO, whose clarinet-sporting "Azzurro" is probably our pick of a very strong bunch.

Dam Swindle - "The Break Up" (7:40)
Scan 7 - "The Best Is Yet To Come" (6:39)
Fouk - "Kill Frenzy" (6:00)
Demuir - "Werq Feel Gruv Vogue" (6:13)
Adryiano - "Me & You & Her" (6:36)
Review: Now that Heist Recordings is 10 years old, label bosses Dam Swindle have decided the time is right to launch a new series of EPs featuring big tunes and sought-after classics from the imprint's archive. Fittingly, volume one begins with the track that opened the label's debut release - the classic US deep house style bounce of Dam Swindle's 'The Breakup' - before we're offered the chance to savour the organ-rich, hands-in-the-air positivity of Scan 7's brilliant 'The Best Is Yet To Come'. Over on the B-side, Fouk's 'Kill Frenzy' is a dusty, jazz-sampling deep house treat, Demuir's 'Werq Feel Gruv Vogue' is a twinkling, loop-based dancefloor delight, and Adriano's 'Me & You & Her' is a sun-splashed, disco-flecked peak-time treat.

Cat: MM 007. Rel: 04 Aug 20
Soul Muzak (6:21)
Soul Muzak (DJ Sneak Banger dub remix) (7:28)
Review: Demuir has plenty of accolades and achievements under his belt, from regular collaborations with DJ Sneak and Cassy to releases on Music For Freaks, Hot Creations, Robsoul and more. Now the Toronto-based artist is on Darius Syrossian's Moxy Muzik with a seriously rubbery slice of peak-time house music to get bodies jacking in the loosest possible way. "Soul Muzak" hinges around a wonky, modulating synth line that will do untold damage in any up-for-it party setting. Demuir's old sparring partner DJ Sneak steps up on the B-side to deliver the "Banger Dub Remix" of the track, honing things down to a tracky bounce in his instantly identifiable house gangster style.

Philippine Sunrise (7:17)
Philippine Sunrise (Lady Blacktronika Sunset mix) (6:15)
Review: Since making his debut on Peetah! in 2001, Demuir has built up a rock solid catalogue of club-ready deep house jams. Here the Toronto-based producer follows up recent outings on Robsoul, Hot Creations and Desolat with a first appearance on Heist Recordings. He hits the ground running with a muscular deep house loop jam weighty enough for peak-time plays ("Werq Feel Gruv Love"), before layering up spacey synths, heady string samples and rubbery house beats on "The 3nity Returneth (Dub Mix)". "Philippine Sunrise" is arguably the best of a strong bunch: a melodious, warm and intoxicating deep house workout full of intricate musical detail and colourful electronics. That comes backed by a tasty "Sunset" revision by Lady Blacktronika that sounds like it was designed for locked-in, late night dancefloors.

We are thrilled to have DEMUIR on Selections once again, after his appearance on last year's 'Movement EP' This time he has dropped 'The Persistence Of Hope EP' - and it's exactly what you'd expect from his stellar output. Starting off on the A side is the title track 'The Persistence Of Hope' - a super deep slice of house music with a spoken word repeating "The System" and "Hopeless" over 90's style keys - then at around 3 minutes the punchy bassline drops. Starting out on the flip we get down chi town style with 'Life Is Simple' Shuffling high hats over a spoken word with a killer bassline. Rounding up we have 'Unto Thee' - another prime example of that DEMUIR groove.

In Awe Of You (6:52)
In Awe Of You Ma (Gabriel's Strings) (8:34)
Review: Label boss Demuir steps up for the 8th 12" from Purveyor Underground Limited and uses the opportunity to dedicate the music to his mother. This Grooves From Mama's Kitchen EP has already picked up some notable plays from the likes of Jimpster, Masters At Work and Kerri Chandler and is a swinging house offering with great depth and musicality. 'Beat 6 (Luv Is Complicated)' is majestic and soulful house with diva vocals and brilliant melodies, while the dub is more paired back. 'In Awe Of You' brings the jazz with its bright lead synths and soulful grooves, while closer 'In Awe Of You Ma' (Gabriel's Strings) is more loose-limbed and playful with some fine horns. .

Review: Kevin Dennis Pierre has been making high-grade house music as Demuir since the dawn of the Millennium, in the process notching up releases on such imprints as Robsoul Recordings, Stickman, Nite Grooves, Farris Wheel, Heist, Kaoz Theory and Hot Creations. Here the Toronto-based producer brings his brand of club-ready deep house to France's Frappe Recordings, flitting between driving, mind-bending peak-time hedonism ('The Music In Space'), jazzy and sample-rich goodness ('Enter The House of My Lord') and revivalist Chicago 'boompty' (the early 2000s Classic Music Company style 'First Look In San Diego'). Pierre's old pal DJ Sneak rounds things off with a deliciously sleazy, weighty and sub-heavy interpretation of 'The Music In Space' with added low-end sax stabs.

Hymn Of Truth (Byron The Aquarius remix) (4:22)
Hymn Of Truth (Demuir Stripped acappella) (6:06)
Review: Welcome to Purveyor Underground Limited. For our first release we are very excited to present Hymn of truth by Demuir. Leading off the A side we have the original mix starting with a banging bass line and snares leading into a spoken word that is reminiscent of those gritty 90's tracks from the likes of Green Velvet a la Preacherman The track quickly builds from there into a late night juggernaut that does not slow down! This is peak time underground house music at its finest. Up next we have the Dub mix for those who like to get down on the instrumental tip. On the flip side we get that remix treatment from house music heavy hitter Byron The Aquarius (Axis Records/Sound Signature/ Shall Not Fade). Byron has taken Hymn Of Truth into deeper territory and the result is absolutely stunning. Layered pads and beautiful strings accompany a slightly subdued bass line which turns this track into something totally different while maintaining the integrity Demuir's original vision. For the last track we have Demuir's Stripped accapella which is just that, a bare bones version of the title track that is very useful as a tool or to blend between the dub or any other version of the track.

Here it rolls out another volume of the crucial-for-house-heads BND Project, the fifth in all, and another one packed with heavy hitters such as DJ Spinna, Atjazz, Demuir and Dirty Harry. They all serve up their own distinctive twist on US garage flavours with 'In Awe Of You' laying up lovely acoustic guitar and horns, 'Night Life' going deep and dusty, 'Many Days' bringing some soulful grooves and 'All Niter' rounding out with more characterful synths and life-affirming sounds.

Demuir - "Lusting U" (feat Bluey Robinson) (6:31)
DJ Sneak - "Judy Russell Red" (6:31)
Review: Kerri Chandler has once again dipped into the vaults of his long-running Kaoz Theory label and picked out two previously digital-only gems deserving of a belated vinyl debut. On side A you'll find Demuir's soulful and uplifting 2020 jam 'Lusting U', a rolling chunk of semi-organic house warmth featuring superb lead vocals from British vocalist Bluey Robinson. Over on side B, it's all about DJ Sneak's 'Judy Russell', a killer cut first featured on his Movin' Parts EP three years ago. A bit deeper, woozier and more loose-limbed than some of his more muscular and forthright workouts, it sees the veteran producer wrap synthesized vocalisations and sunny chords around a chunky bassline and swinging house beats that sound like they could have come straight out of Kenny Dope's MPC.

Review: Robsoul Recordings has continue on the rich tradition of superb France deep hose for many years after the first wave of artists and labels came and went. This third edition of its Classic Sampler series is another joyous one that opens up with the jazzy loops and soul-drenched house grooves of Demuir's 'From Paris To Strasbourg'. Vincent Caira's 'Back Again' is more solid and raw but no less heartfelt then Mo'Funk & Roland Clark cut lose with an unabashed piano sound on 'Bring Together' that will get hands in the air. Three timeless tracks that really tap into the original spirit of house music.

Review: Part one of Refuge's new La Decima V/A 12" series hears select tunes from select artists, all of whom have made significant contributions to the label's catalogue over the years. Spanning everything from firmly driven nu-disco to scratch n' sniff garage house to Chi-style stompers, we're more than enthralled by this well-rounded resonator. The best of the bunch has to be Demuir's 'Vibez High', which moves unabashed and stringy, its clawing claps, freeze-locked funk licks and scraping open hats painting a vivid street scene set outside the house.

With You (7:20)
Feel The Heat (6:14)
Review: This tasteful Spanish label always does a fine line in traditionally inclined deep house. Their latest drop brings together the talents of Andrew Lozano and Trevor Vichas. 'Don't U Feel It' kicks off with a playful skip in the drums and one of those spoken word vocals that add plenty of atmosphere. It's Demuir who remixes this one with even more light-hearted groove and jazzy Rhodes chords. Lozano and Vichas then offer 'With You' which keeps the dubby, smoky, frayed-edge house sounds rolling and 'Feel The Heat then brings a more upright groove with driving hits and swirling pads that speak to the soul.

The Toronto native's brand of house is chunky, groovy, deep and funky, taking cues not only from previous collaborators such as DJ Sneak, but also those of his contemporaries that make great use of dusty samples and killer drum programming. As a result, Visions manages to work both as a collection of club-focused cuts and an album you can listen to repeatedly from start to finish.
