Disko Lena (7:38)
Panta Tanta (8:41)
Lasse Mango (7:47)
Bogges Bubblor (7:24)
Review: We always love to hear from the Swedish folks at Studio Barnhus, a bunker-turned studio in Stockholm that serves up left-of-centre sounds on the regular. Ari Bald and CJ Scott combine for this one and bring a usual sense of melodic flair and catchy pop hooks to quality club beats. 'Disko Lena' is house music full of whimsy and charm, 'Panta Tanta' is packed with fun samples and 'Lasse Mango' is a steamy workout with shuffling, garage-lining drums. 'Bogges Bubblor' shuts down with some cosmic magic.

Paper Tears (Same Victories, Same Mistakes)
Paper Tears (Tribal Tears dub)
Review: The phrase "Gerd Janson does it again" seems to be uttered all too often here at Juno HQ, with his Running Back imprint somehow maintaining a standard of quality that's matched by the lack of fuss Janson makes about it. The latest 12" reeks of Running Back brilliance with finely judged artwork complemented by superb music - courtesy of mysterious producer BDI who was last seen dropping the brilliant "City & Industry" on Rush Hour. Described with typical verve as "Vatican house", this three track release has the erstwhile BDI operating under the Compassion Crew name drawing out three variants on "Paper Tears" with the jangly insouciance of the Tribal Tears Dub perhaps the pick of the lot.

Nicola Brusegan, Camilo Gil - "Take A Groove" (Jorge Caiado remix) (6:12)
Review: Renowned producer Bodeler makes his mark on the newly emerging Minimal Brooklin label with a masterful display of minimalism on his A1 cut, then respected Argentinian Franco Cinelli remixes and delivers something immersive. On the B-side, Nicola Brusegan and Camilo Gil unite to create a soulful deep house track complete with lush chords and pulsating basslines, and this one is paired with a remix from Jorge Caiado that is sure to electrify dance floors thanks to his knack for crafting statement-making sound and pulsating acid vibes.

Review: Yoyaku's sublabel YoY presents a short double LP from Thoma Bulwer and Claus Voigtmann, blending every line between deep house, electro, breaks, and house. Not relying on theme or context to compel the listener, rather pure phonic phatics, a title like Grand Theft Auto might be the only clue as to the album's associative grounding: the likes of 'Liberated' and 'Just Do It' promise a driven, transgressive enjoyment - in which we might actually be able to jack a car as we would jack a groove, and guiltlessly enjoy the excesses of such a musico-criminal spree - a promise made just as clearly in the video game series and franchise of the same name. Soundtracking this voracious ride is a tricky, brukky, bass-driven and intriguingly textured record, one that wrests us, for better or worse, from the need to obey.

Review: CAL C (aka Callum Cockburn) has been building up to this for a while and now finally releases his debut EP, Spacedust EP, which it is fair to say is a dazzling addition to the dance world. Produced and pressed with precision at Mother Tongue in Verona, Toronto's rhythmic innovator shows his class with primal beats merged with futuristic sounds to make for a vibrant, forward-thinking musical experience. All five cuts explore slightly different sound worlds but all with equal class and style. A fine debut, with hopefully much more to come.

Review: In case you didn't know, Caribou toured around Europe with a band just a few years ago, and you know what? He's been kind enough to record three of those gigs and press up on wax for ya! Featuring the likes of Four Tet and James Holden among his band members, the record contains segments from three shows: two in Ghent and one London at the illustrious Scala venue. The former is perhaps the maddest part, but you can only truly get to grips with its insanity once your hear that brass riding all over the high-speed live percussion. Sublime.

Review: Carlita comes hot off the heels of a recent remix of Diplo's 'Don't Be Afraid' with a fresh EP for Life And Death. Tinged with inflections from Italo house to ambient techno, 'Bon Trip' and 'Run Run Run' are dreamlike trips through chordy syncopation and whirly vocal. By far the best aspect of this EP is the techno remix by Krystal Klear, which has a sprinkling of autotune that's been amped up to French house levels. A glossy and ear-piquing new EP.

Review: Jackies Music Records celebrates a successful first year with a new special edition vinyl record, featuring five iconic numbers from the back catalogue. Retrospectively looking back, we're met with five still-fresh ones from their ambitious 2024, includeing handpicks from Todd Terry, Piem, CASSIMM, Angelo Ferreri, and DJ W!ld. Embodying the mood of mid-dance tension, at which point we're likely well into the mix and sweating our glands off (such paradoxes are not impossible), the best of this pick have got to be Terry's 'Heartbeat', a swarthily knocking groove complete with an angelic, cardiovascular vocal, and W!ld's lo-fi hip slip, 'Underdog', the lyrics on which we'll be spending at least a good week trying to decipher.

Ishfaq - "Wonderjazz" (5:56)
Review: Colin Curtis - an early purveyor of rare groove and jazzdance whose credo rings far and wide - has been helming his own label of originals for some time now. Presently focusing on the best live-feel broken beat, house and jazz in his orbit, his latest curation, Cengiz and Ishfaq's 'Vibrations', is no break from this general rule. Each artist helming one side respectively, Cengiz' 'Motf' and its remix work a steadily built progression around faint jeers, metallic percs, filterpassed tom fills and space-age risers, the latter of which is much more skeletal than the former; while Ishfaq's 'Wonderjazz' moves impressively somewhere in the lost interregnum between speed garage and techfunk.

Review: Kerri Chander's sound is so unique it almost deserves its only genre. He brings more musicality to house than almost anyone and for that reason is often called the Stevie Wonder of the genre. His latest album is a real labour of love that saw him write each of the tunes on the very dance floor of the clubs that are mentioned in each title. In some cases, he used found sounds, calculated the delay of kicks off a wall to phase them through a mix and even record himself playing on a green room piano at Printworks to use in the final tune. It might be the best album of his career and a selection of the tunes from it make it onto this third essential sampler.

Review: The fourth and (we think) final sampler for Kerri Chandler's epic new album, Spaces & Places, not only features a swathe of cuts from the set, but also a clutch of must-check alternate takes. Of the album tracks, we're particularly fond of the Ministry of Sound inspired piano house workout 'Hurry Up (featuring Dreamer G)' and the locked-in early morning hypnotism of 'Sunrise', which the New Jersey native recorded at Berlin club 'Watergate'. Other highlights across the double-pack include the breezy 'Joyful Life' (and its accompanying 'Vibeapella') and the bonus 'No Guitar Mix' of the mid-90s St German style wonder of 'Dirty', a cut recorded at, and in tribute to, legendary Paris venue Rex Club.

Review: On this second, more expansive sampler for his forthcoming album Spaces & Places, Kerri Chandler treats us to tracks inspired by - and by the wonders of mobile recording technology, produced inside - clubs including Dublin's District 8, Glasgow institution Sub Club, Lux of Lisbon and NYC's Output. Of course, the standard is uniformly high throughout - it's classic Chandler from start to finish - but our picks of a very fine bunch include the soulful piano house shimmer of 'Change Your Mind', the thrusting, bass-heavy pump of 'Subbie (Rattle The Subbie Mix)', the effortlessly slick and soulful 'Tenacity (Full Vocal Mix)' and the ludicrously sub-heavy snap of 'See The Light (Dub)'. To borrow an old cliche, this is very much, 'all killer, no filler'.

Review: This is the third album sampler in what is set to be Kerri Chandler's biggest album drop to date; 'Spaces And Places' Vol. 3 is enough to be a full LP in its own right, and contains myriad garage house and deep soulful house tracks from the legend himself. Each track was inspired by, and made in, a different venue in which Chandler himself has performed in; these include DC10, Industria, Basic Club, Sir Henrys, Club Qu and Barbarellas. They channel his love for every space, bringing us to new house-inflected sonic places.

Review: One of two groove packages for Downtown's Linda Perrone (the first being in 1998), Chandler's 2010 "12 still hits the heart just as hard to this day. Those New Jersey organs on "House Is House", the dope infection and slight Detroitian nod of "Mommy What's A Record", the hushed vocal hypnosis of "11th Hour" and the hazy trumpet, classic jazz vocals and gradual build of of "Kerri Bacharach"... Everything about this record is very much real. If you didn't catch the previous represses, now is the time.

The Way It Goes (Chris Stussy dub) (6:38)
Review: A few years back Kerri Chandler joined forces with Troy Denari to deliver "The Way It Goes", a superbly soulful club cut based on the legendary house producer's iconic 1993 workout "Track 1". Here it gets a new slant courtesy of Chris Stussy, a Dutch producer with releases on some of the world's most noted deep house labels to his name. Stussy makes great use of Denari's slick, soulful vocal on his A-side remix, which showcase some spacey, echoing synthesizer motifs and the most jazzy and squelchy synth-bass part known to man, woman or child. He toughens things up and raises the intensity a notch on the flipside dub mix, which naturally makes greater use of the spacey synth motifs and a few other tech-tinged musical flourishes.

Compton's own Channel Tres has been making waves since he first popped up in 2018, signing to majors and dropping some heavyweight collabs with the likes of SG Lewis, Robyn and Emotional Oranges. It's a good opportunity to track back then to his first records, being reissued by his regular stomping ground of Godmode. What has made Channel Tres so instantly appealing is his smart embrace of deep house on tracks like 'Controller', which place him in a similar sphere to the likes of Galcher Lustwerk. Nick Sylvester's production is utterly addictive, creating a cool and deadly cocktail which has lost none of its potency in the five years since release.

Review: After he made such an impact with his debut EP in 2018, Compton-based hip-house hero Channel Tres made good on his burgeoning reputation with his second release the year after. Black Moses might nod to Isaac Hayes, but there's nothing throwback about the sound as Tres rides all kinds of sparkling fresh electronic beats with a focus on deep house. He was also able to confirm his burgeoning reputation in the scene with a notable guest spot from JPEGMAFIA on the low slung title track. There's just so much swag to this record, it's going to make you and everyone in a square mile get loose, wherever you drop it.

ST Julian (intro) (1:25)
Controller (3:28)

Review: Compton's own Channel Tres has been making waves since he first popped up in 2018, signing to majors and dropping some heavyweight collabs with the likes of SG Lewis, Robyn and Emotional Oranges.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***

Lo-fi house lovers Chaos In The CBD make their Fabric debut with a new mix CD and LP, contributing their wares to the latter's fresh mix Presents series, which came about after the end of the FABRICLIVE series and has seen to the likes of Sherelle, Octo Octa and Marbou State also feature. This 22-track extravaganza is noted to have been Fabric's most challenging licensing ordeal to date, having to polish a variety of sonic gemstones including by The Logic Box, Box Clever and Psychedelic Research Lab. Clearly, the relative obscurity of the names on the CD make this the duo's ode to 'hidden' house. Their original track 'Higher Elavation', meanwhile, cements this mysterious mood with surreptitious basses and smoggy pads.

Ace Of Clubs (6:12)
Tricks & Denim (5:41)
This Is Just A Game (6:04)
Bad (5:05)
Review: Paris-based groovers Charonne have been building up their identity as ear-catching minimal house freaks since debuting on their Rakya label back in 2016. Now they're settling into a new surrounding on Velvet Spirit, ladling the rubbery funk on good and thick for some upfront cuts shot through with oddball flair. Just check the discoid stylings of 'Tricks & Denim' with its boogie flourishes and subtly off-centre synth licks, absolutely tooled for maximum party pleasure. 'This Is Just A Game' edges towards something even bigger, catching a wave that comes on like mid 00s electro house given a modern makeover.

Review: Hey boys, hey girls... Chemical Brothers are back with some superstar business and all is well with the world. Instantly slipping into their signature, 'No Reason' smacks with everything we love about Tom and Ed. Big funk bassline, cheeky party samples and a presence that could get everyone from your nan to your naughty next door neighbour dancing. 'All Of A Sudden' takes us up a few gears in a way that only the Chemmys can; unrelenting laser bass marching music that pushes and pushes and pushes to the very end. Here we go!

Bad House Music

RIV2 (Bad) (5:36)
Bad House Music (5:39)
Prog Power (6:29)
Do It (5:11)
Review: What is bad house music? Besides lazy non-objections like "it's a matter of taste", we'd go deeper and suggest bad house music is house music that doesn't respect the genre's roots (note: respecting should be defined in contrast to absolute loyalty; the two ideas are altogether different). Love Exposure's very own Chinichi shows an awareness of this distinction, laying down four tracks which only hint at the vibe of bumptious genre disrespect that some producers exhibit, without truly indulging it. "Bad" is defined secondarily here: "bad" as in devilish, seductive, charming. The title track and ensuers like 'Prog Power' and 'Do It' thus pump and kick, inducing extra fluttery come-hither eyes in the listener, by way of burly kicks, moreish trance elements and extra curvaceous synth hoots.

Review: Edit king and remix master Joaquin Joe Claussell's 'Ancestral Food & Healing Medicine' 12" first dropped in 2020 and became another one of his instant classics. It found him taking things to an all-new level with the reuses all best heard on loud systems when it is impossible not to be enraptured by a religious experience of gel and soul-infused sound. The therapeutic grooves heal you to your core with their uplifting synths and meaningful messages. For that reason, an original copy has become rather experience but fear not as this new reissue allows you to cop these sounds in nice new red wax.

Discombobulated Wiring (5:18)
Review: Joaquin "Joe" Clausell launched the "Xperiments" series back in 2016 with a box set containing two single-sided flexi-discs and a seven-inch single, all of which contained some pretty spaced-out sounds. Four years on he's decided to offer-up a new instalment in the avant-garde project: a single-sided seven-inch presented in a special hand-made sleeve by artist Akemi Shimada. Interestingly, the featured track, "Discombobulated Wing", is far more club-ready than its predecessors, with Clausell layering krautrock-esque treated guitars and Tangerine Dream style analogue synthesizer parts atop a low-slung, restless bass guitar line and sparse house drums.
