I Can't Believe (with Anetha) (4:23)
Two Perfect Machines (4:04)
Review: Left-of-centre electronic maverick Randomer returns with a new EP on Anetha's label, Mama Told Ya. After what we're told was something of a reflective hiatus, the UK artist delivers five emotionally charged tracks, all bar one of which are solo cuts with the other being one co-produced with Anetha. Thematically these cuts explore life's unpredictability and encourage embracing chaos and randomness. Drawing from his deep study of melodies, Randomer blends techno, trance, techstep and sacred choral music to create a cathartic journey across several different sound worlds here and it all adds up to a powerful, introspective listening experience.

Charlie Sparks - "Exploited" (6:42)
Vizionn - "Dream" (6:47)
Review: There's no stopping Possession when they get on a roll, and so their second various artists series reaches release number four with another grip of devastating techno bombs for the harder floors of the world. Randomer is up first, throwing down the hard trance-licked thumper 'Shiver' before Somniac One's subtly dreamy beast 'Midnight Intruder' comes marching into earshot. Charlie Sparks kicks off the flip with an unrelenting hard techno assault before Vizionn brings some hard house sass to bear on 'Dream'. It's a fun and feisty selection which tells you everything you need to know about the current wave of hard dance.

Review: If there is one thing ZXY knows about, it is unearthing and reissuing Italo disco rarities from the 80s. This one is from 1984 and finds Rank tapping into the perfect nostalgic aesthetics of the time - silvery drums that are not overly produced, wispy synths that bring cosmic energy and some loved-up chords. Review: The GLBDOM label is on a roll and we don't want it to stop. As was the last with the seance EP, this one is a various artists' affair pressed on nice heavy vinyl to match the heavy sounds. Ollie Rant opens with the quirky melodic leads and sleazy deep house loops of 'Aaaww Yeh' before Manuold brings some Chicago bump and grind on 'Roots.' The hats and drums are perfectly raw and lead you 'Deeper Underground' and into the jacked-up hands of Yann Polewka. Last of all comes some cheeky garage swing and swagger courtesy of DAN T's' nice dry 'Hold Me'.

Ben Jamin - "Old Time Feeling" (4:50)
Review: French funk lovers Acts of Sedition roll out another tasty double 7" here that features some massive joints from around the world. First up is the Latin heat of Rare Cuts's 'Amigo Bracno' with its big, bright leads, string lushness and percolating, percussive groove goodness all finished with a great Portuguese vocal. Monsieur Van Pratt Le Groove's 'El Rap Clap O' (Regroove) hits a little harder but with similar funk playfulness and some great chord work and Bully Boy then offers the raw and strident funk of 'Fear'n'Loathing In Funk Vegas.' Ben Jamin slows it right down with the sun-kissed late night bliss of 'Old Time Feeling.'

Review: After a three-year break, DJ Sneak and Tripmastaz renew their partnership as Raretwo Inc, in the process making their bow on the latter Respect The Graft imprint. As you'd expect from two masters of their craft, the 33 Chambers EP is packed to the rafters with chunky, bass-heavy and sample-rich deep house workouts. Check first the jazzy, sub-heavy bounce of 'Trac 4 Kenny', before getting your ears around the muscular chunkiness of 'Aaw Lawwd', where rasping blues-man vocal snippets and tight loops ride a bustling beat and booming bassline. Elsewhere, 'Trac 4 Rick' is a lightly druggy, disco-speckled slab of locked-in deep house science, while 'XTC' is a trippy, tech-tinged late-night roller with effects aplenty and lashings of dubbed-out synth sounds.

Review: Dutch label Ghetto Cornerstone presents a new and limited 12" here that offers some high-class roots. The release features Jamaican singer Prince Alla in top form as well as dubs produced by Ray Ranking, along with an additional vocal track by Ras Ruben. They are all fine blends of classic roots reggae with fresh, dynamic elements, starting with 'Warn Them' with its flabby and wobbly low-end and happy vocal energy. Ras Ruben's 'Jah Guiding Star' on the flip is a more pained and yearning sound with a slower, more pillowy and cavernous low end.

Review: FlipNJay Records is in a fine run of form right now and here it keeps that going with the first-ever 7" vinyl release of the Rascalz's timeless anthem 'Top of the World' featuring Barrington Levy and K-os. This Canadian hip-hop classic from the late '90s is paired with 'Gunfinga' featuring Kardinal Offishall on the B-side. Both tracks, produced by DJ Kemo, highlight the golden era of Canadian hip-hop and come housed in original artwork by Dedos that reflects the vibrant spirit of the time. This time once more they offer up underground 90s rap gems in the form of a brilliant neck-snapper from West Coast lyrical don Rasco. His 'Unassisted' is a widely respected cut that finds favour with heads and backpackers and turntablists alike thanks to its hard bars and chord-laced bumping beats. Review: Rasser is a new name on these pages but we hope this won't be the last time we hear from whoever is behind this fine techno trip on Edit Select. It opens with the perfectly streamlined beats and well reduced synths of 'To Late To Understand' which is a deeply burrowing linear masterclass. 'React In Time' rattles more, with underlapping kicks tight and pinging while frosty pads bring the tension up top. The subtleties of techno are again explored in back room slow burner 'Assimilate The Process' then 'Atypical Concerns' closes with gurgling synths that make it feel like you're circling round the plug hole.

This one from the in house crew kick off with a tune packed with wellborn samples over a variety of beats from high speed drum & bass to digital dub and back again. This new release features two original tracks and two dub mixes designed for nice and loud sound system sessions. On the A-side, deep, mystical vibes and conscious lyrics come from Rastaveli MC and are paired with a raw, meditative dub mix by Red-i. Dirty Haze
Review: After debuting on vinyl in fine style with last year's Tjuma drop Can't Get Enough, Viennese producer Roman Rauch takes a step up the deep house ladder with this tangerine tinged clear twelve inch for the Philpot label. Included are remixes of tracks from the aforementioned debut along with a new production from Rauch himself - and Philpot bossman Soulphiction calls shotgun with a remix of "Can't Get Enough" that rolls across the A Side with the sort of fizzy aplomb you'd expect. Of more interest is the B Side which sees the welcome return of Juno favourite Eerdbeerschnitzel! The German remixes "Bio Rhythm", transforming it into a twisted, low centric house groove filled with a multiplicity of deft textures and atmospherics. A wholly unique sound befitting of the productions Mr Keiling graced us with last year. Rauch rounds off proceedings with the spectral bump of "Dirty Haze" which takes on a hue reminiscent of recent Lone output as it progresses.

Review: In 2019, there were no rules when it came to who played what. Feeding into that was a resurgence in higher tempos, trance, rave, gabber, hardcore and just about anything. That's why this monster fifth release on Raver-R is going to be so well received rather than laughed at, as it most certainly would have been in previous years. And why not, because it sure is fun, with slapping drums, mentasm stabs, horns, whistles and overblown female vocals all exploding time and time again. This then is mad decent, and utterly destructive club weaponry.

Review: Following the excellent excavation of the Miami band's unreleased album Best Kept Secret, AOTN's Fryer treats us to his two favourite cuts on a 500-only never-to-be-repressed 45. Seeped in powerful vocal harmonies, "Let Go" is rare groove gold with smooth sax and a dynamic that keeps on surprising while "Will You Be There" is an end of night soul shakedown with a tenderness that's tangible in every element. Don't sleep on this... Or the album. One of AOTN's most exciting releases this year.

Eggs Time - "Feeling Action" (4:12)
Review: Leng Records' 59th release is something a little different: a very personal collection of largely obscure and hard-to-find gems, mostly created by European pop producers in the late '70s and early '80s, from artist and record collector Paul Beckett. Firmly Balearic and sun-soaked in tone, there's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout. For proof, first check Ray & John's 'Day By Day (Instrumental), which sounds like Please-era Pet Shop Boys reclining at a pool party in Rimini, before admiring the space rock/synth-pop fusion of 'Angelo' by Angel'o. Over on the flip, Beckett offers up three more slices of glassy-eyed goodness, with the loved-up deep synth pop of Angel and the fretless bass-sporting wooziness of Eggs Time standing out.

Review: Ray Mono, who first came onto the scene as a resident at well regarded Leeds party Mono_Cult more than a decade ago, is now helming the label of the same name. After a notable first outing, he is quickly back with another of his supple and subtle minimal workouts. 'Synchronicity' is a brilliantly warm and bubbly opener with balmy pads and sci-fi signifiers, while 'Awakenings' picks up the pace for a more driving and late-night tech house vibe that oozes drum funk. 'Synchronicity' then comes as a Nu Zau remix with more chattery percussion and textured bass rumbles, and Sepp's remix of 'Awakenings' is deep, bumping minimal house. A super fresh EP once more.

Review: Founded in Lithuania in 2021, Rayonas is both an artist and a record label dedicated to underground music. Rayonas 007 comes as a limited edition blue via and features an opening cut that reworks spoken words from the great Moodymann. The beat is full of infectious skip and warm chords while 'Lofi Voice' has a more summery and upbeat feel and fresh kicks. 'Boffie Break' is a kinetic cut with tight drum programming and some nice smeared pads for late-night vibes. 'Its' shuts down with some more spaced-out grooves and cerebral pad work for those 5 am sessions. A great EP with nice variation in the grooves.

Review: Rayonas is both an artist and a record label founded in 2021 that has dealt in some smart underground house sounds. This new one from the imprint begins a sub-series called Speedy House that is about, well, speedy. 'Things As They Are' pairs pensive ambient piano and a recognisable melodic motif with thumping and driving drums. It works well, frankly. 'Liquid' is another chunky, pacey house thumper with 'Labas Rytas ' then veering more into uptempo, funky techno that never quits. 'Laser Tag' has a loopy, underlapping bassline and gloppy pads and 'Dreaming' shuts down with a richer array of non-melodic colours for peak time trips.

It is steeped in hip-hop style for the way the grooves are so loosely assembled, but with a more rooted four-four house vibe. 'OD' is a deep and dusty opener for the back room, 'Eloise' brings hi tek funk and intense soul with Motor City overtones and 'Toe The Line' is a humid deep house cut that Theo Parrish or Moodymann might admire. 'Take Me' rounds out with twanging bass riffs and smeared chords that ooze heartfelt warmth.

Review: Ron's Reworks, a series of scalpel jobs and lightly beefed-up reworks from Crazy P co-founder Jim Baron AKA Ron Basejam, has now reached its fourth volume. Predictably, the included material is every bit as well-crafted as its' similarly inclined predecessors. The standout is undoubtedly A-side 'They Speak Colour', a loopy, soft-focus disco-house jam whose relentless grooves, synthesizer splashes and simmering orchestration make it sound like Soundstream after a bong full of Marijuana smoke and several disco biscuits. Elsewhere, 'The City' is a canny revision of an unusual disco-boogie number that builds through sections of drums and cut-up, scat style vocals before finally flourishing late on, while 'The Cull' is a deep and meandering head-nodder tailor-made for warm-up sets and sit-down bar gigs.

Whether Ron is the name of the edit artist, or a nod to the fact these tunes might have been played Ron Hardy, we don't know, but we do know they are worth having: Gilles Peterson played the lush soul grooves of "Flight Of The Eisenberg" on his 6 Music show which should be all the support you need to know about, while "Heads" is a more deep cut of late night funk with playful riffs and a gorgeous vocal sample next to jazzy Rhodes keys. His own edits were the backbone of his often intensely emotional and celebratory sound and this Ray label has long been putting out the best of them. Number 53 in the series kicks off with the cosmic synths and soothing vocal harmonies of 'Atmosphere Strut' before 'Classy Dance Orchestra' gets all elegant and sophisticated in its approach to disco. Following previous releases by Harba, Jurango and Laksa himself, the EP continues the label's exploration of high-tempo club music that blends the hardcore continuum's energy with precise sound design and technical craftsmanship. The title references the dissociative state caused by trauma and explores how music expresses emotions beyond words. Sonically, the EP follows a signature bass-driven, vocal-led style in the 140-150 BPM range. It bangs, for sure.

Review: On paper, combining Coltrane jazz classic 'A Love Supreme' and Bob Marley's 'Exodus' in a Cuban jazz style seems like an odd idea, but as Joe Clausell and pianist Matt Jenson proved on their 2013 album as Rebel Tumbao, it's actually a genius one. For proof, check out the original mix, which is tucked away on the flipside of this belated remix EP. The real star attraction though is Ron Trent's A-side remix, which brilliantly re-images the track as a skanking chunk of slow-motion dub house complete with echoing vocal snippets, reverb-laden pianos and plenty of Latin and African style hand percussion. Eqwel's accompanying 'Dub Bass Mix', a more glitchy, electronic affair, is also well worth a listen.

Opener 'Round & Round' is a high speed house cut with squelchy bass and balmy vocals full of love and soul next to a pitched up r&b hook. It's a real joy. He has been active since the 90s so has a great through-line to these foundational styles but makes them his own here. Interestingly he started producing with turntables and mixers after being inspired by DMC champion so brings a real live feel to his sounds. Four years on from the series' second instalment, Van Naste returns with three more raw, stripped-back jams that variously doff a cap to early Chicago house, the Motor City, and formative UK bleep techno. The Belgian DJ/producer begins with 'The J Principle', a bleeping and bass-heavy workout featuring a spoken word vocal paying tribute to Windy City house originator Jamie Principle, before reaching for acid style synth bass, sparkling keyboard stabs and vintage drum machine beats on 'Raw Shit'. Movin (Red Greg edit) (9:29)

Trinidad Duke (Red Greg edit) (5:30)
Review: Red Greg, on Moton, delivers a trio of edits of obscure cuts from his seemingly endless record collection. Ten-minute A-side "Movin" is an undulating disco treat built around a killer bassline, twinkling melodies, punchy orchestration and one hell of a female vocal. On the flip you'll find the jaunty, horn-heavy disco-funk bump of "Desire", a superb rework of a barely known, bilingual gem, and the spiraling Caribbean disco-funk insanity that is peak-time workout/synthesizer wig-out "Trinidad Duke". All three edits have been "secret weapons" for the dusty-fingered DJ for some time, and can now be yours for less than nine English pounds. What's not to like?

In Love Again (10:04)
Latin Techno (6:51)
Review: With his release schedule operating at a gentle pace to allow for each of his twelves to sit and be considered on their own merit, Daniel 'Red Rack'Em' Berman makes just his second outing of 2013 with this pair of cuts for the ever strengthening Wolf Music. It's a record that shows off Berman's idiosyncratic approach to deep house on two very different levels. The first track, "In Love Again", is as blissed-out and heartfelt a take as you could wish for, from the sumptuous pad lines to the plastic strings that positively ooze contentment and passion. "Latin Techno" meanwhile is perhaps less predictable based on its title, opting for a jagged cut up of drum machine patterns and contorted brass sounds but rubbing them up in a non-direct way that makes for a delirious and utterly singular end result.

Review: Prelude is the don when it comes to the dubbier end of disco in the 80s. So many of its releases were staples of the key New York City scene at the time and they have kept their charm over the decades. 'Beat The Street' from Sharon Redd is one of them - a track doused on echo and reverb with dancing synths layered up over analogue drums, cold claps and with her fine vocals soaring high and bright. The vocal is where it's at but the paired back instrumental is also a fine groove for some retro feels.

Emerging from Toronto's thriving underground, Redlife delivers streetwise lyrics that draw on the raw essence of the city's various neighbourhoods. Their hard-hitting sound and authentic storytelling have earned them a strong reputation within Toronto's hip-hop scene and here they collaborate with local legends including Saukrates on the iconic 'Yagga Yaw Yaw'. A must-have for hip-hop enthusiasts, this release cemented Redlife's status as one of T-Dot's finest and this 45 preserves the spirit of Toronto's streets and Redlife's undeniable legacy.

Review: Roffa than ruff! Netherlands craftsman Mike Redman (AKA Deformer) unites local MCs Bigman Scep, Swift and Dart for this big singalong skank-out. Tailored for festivals, it pays homage to the roots with big party energy. Meanwhile on the remix front we're bombarded with an all-star cast as UK OGs Bizzy B and Ed Rush both get stuck in alongside Mike under his Deformer alias. Bizzy is all about the modern rave twist while Ed Rush gets an old Bad Company style and Deformer goes all-out breakcore. Elsewhere on this double 12" opus we see Mackadena get the breaks on, Rotterdam Terror Corps go full hardcore and Akira teasing us with a little twist of gabber. High grade Dutch business.

One More Time (feat SANITY) (5:19)
Review: As we wait impatiently for the release of Sam Redmore's forthcoming debut album, Universal Vibrations, the hotly tipped producer has treated us to some club-ready revisions of two tracks from that set. In its extended mix form (track 2), 'Just Can't Wait' is an inspired slab of vocal boogie brilliance complete with heady Afrobeat style horns, sparkling piano riffs and a chorus so addictive it should probably come with a warning. Kid Creme's accompanying remix is a bouncier disco-funk revision rich in rubbery bass guitar, Nile Rodgers licks and jaunty electric piano stabs. Over on the flip, Latin-fired, rap-sporting Afro-breaks number 'One More Time' is given an airing, alongside a fine, stripped-back, sub-heavy deep Afro-house rub from Bristol-based veteran Red Rack'em.

Review: Back in the mid-90s, Rednex dropped their global smash 'Cotton Eye Joe' as part of their album Sex & Violins and it topped plenty of charts. It was also a school disco favourite that paired euro-dance beats with country melodies and redneck vocals as well as the very singable chorus. Now it comes with a series of edits, instrumentals and remixes by the likes of Madcow on this new 12" from the ZYX label who have pressed it up to limited orange vinyl. It is still silly but lots of fun so why not cop this ultimate edition.

Part III opens up with some deep late night mood music on 'You Love' followed by the eerie heads-down groove of 'Chicago A/D Schelde' on the A side. Review: If you're after fresh workouts for body-popping break-dance sessions, this 45 from John Reed & The Automatics on Funk Night Records should be essential listening. While there's something undeniably alluring about the more suspenseful B-side, 'Space Break' - where effects-laden electric guitar licks and alien-sounding synths rise above a metronomic bassline and a relaxed funk break - it's the more up-tempo A-side, 'Stardust Break', that's the real winner. Based around drum-breaks that reference 'Apache' and a seriously squelchy synth bassline, it's an intergalactic club jam that's just tailor-made for headpins, windmills and caterpillars.

Review: Verdant's tenth release is another meandering and mystic trip through ambient electronic sounds that leaves you a million miles away from wherever you started. All four artists here excel with electro producer Reedale Ris kicking off in languid, far-sighted fashion with their mournful synths and distant cosmic designs. Out.Lier's 'Track 2' is another one cast adrift on deepest space with smeared pads and floating aural details suspending you in mid air. Jo Johnson's cascading synth motifs are pure and innocent and cathartic and Romanticise The World's 'Track 4' is mellifluous and hopeful.

Review: This is a new cut of new cut of the classic O'Jays track that was recorded with Winston Reedy and the Cimarons in the 1970s. 'Ship Ahoy' is as laid back and immersive as roots gets with its swaggering low ends and sparse, ruminant chords. The vocals are in no hurry either and add a lingering sense of soul that really cuts deep. On the flipside, the label's in-house production crew Room In The Sky Allstars offer up their melon-twisting and paired back 'Woy Hoy Dub.' Two classy gems.

He has had plenty of hits in his time and is now a regular on this label, Room In The Sky, with a couple of tunes dropping this month alone. Review: Reeko helps the KR3 label continues its anniversary celebrations here with a new EP that allows on from his recent remix outing here. His take on techno is nuanced and more than just physical. 'Para El Conjunto De Las Esferas ' has an underlapping rhythm that hypnotises while backlit pads hint at celestial energy. 'Verdugo Del Rey' is more raw like a bit of heavy machinery in meltdown and 'Morador De La Oscuridad' has a fizzing static twist and industrial tinge to the atmosphere. 'El Retorno De Saturno' brings things to a close with a slow, menacing and dubbed out prowler.

Review: Long-serving soulful house and jazz-funk band Reel Peeple has decided to inaugurate a new series of disco and boogie covers. On the A-side of this first EP they serve up vocal and instrumental covers of Evelyn 'Champagne' King electrofunk classic "I'm In Love". Although these are largely reverentially faithful to the King's version (even down to the synthesizer settings), they also feel a little more loose and groovy - thanks in no small part to the band's drummer. On the flipside they opt for a more traditional disco sound on their versions of Geraldine Hunt's "Can't Fake This Feeling". Aside from the additional of some synth strings and warm Rhodes chords, they too are pleasingly faithful to their source material.

Review: Hungarian artist Reelow is back with a much sought-after new release, Reeborn, on his own Reecords label, and it is reeally good (see what we did there?). 'Toilet Secrets' (feat Anaisa) is twitchy, loopy, energy tech house brought to life by plenty of weird sound sources, then 'Bitchthatsnake (A_lways L_ittleb_tch A_nyways)' is a sinewy and drug-addled tech house cut for full-on dance floor freakouts. 'I'm With Them (feat Joe Harris)' rides on nice and bumping beats with zippy synth lines and 'Free Your Mind (feat Hana)' is a final party pumper with edgy vocal stabs and metallic drums making an indelible mark.

Mark Reeve now adds his work into the mix with this bold and inescapable two tracker. 'Golden' is a wave of techno with textural synth loops spraying about the mix like an untethered hose while chunky drums rattle the walls. 'All We Have' then gets even more extroverted and maximal with tortured synth stabs, big brain frying leads and more dark, all-consuming drums.
