Review: Contemporary tastemakers Geilgling return with a set of remixes of material from Leafar Legov's recent album, Mirror. First up it is German minimal maestro Isolee who flips 'Fade' into some of his signature sounds - smeared synths and abstract designs all weave together over a minimal beat to make for something seductive and late night. Polish loop master Jan Jelinek then flips 'Fade' into a slow motion shuffle with bright, celestial shards of melodic light and downbeat, melancholic vocals over a chugging beat. Last of all is a mix of 'Jing' that is all broken loops, chopped vocal fragments and hallucinogenic synths.

Review: Angatu is a new label out of Brazil that uses the occasion of its first release to shine a light on plenty of next gen talents going from the South American hotbed. Word is that Claus Voigtmann and tINI have already been rocking joints of this EP so you may well be familiar with them. Minority Retort opens up with a slinky and futuristic pair of tech house tunes that are sure to get the seasoned duo plenty of attention over here in Europe soon. The first EP sets out its stall in fine style with two versions of the same cut. 'Circular Motion' (Emotional) is a mix of amped-up and slick drum loops that are detailed with some alien sound effects and a rising sense of synth warmth that brings a subtle sense of euphoria. Review: It's rather hard to nail the Halloween dance vibe and yet also keep things light and jumpy, but the latest 'Out Of The Crypt' V/A compilation by the sweet folks over at Spooky Wooky have done just that. In fact, they're an entire label dedicated to the cartoon vampire-batty, kitsch smiling pumpkinned, brains-starved nuts-and-bolts-Frankenstein'ed theme: the propulsive monster-mashes therein are just as wicked and weird, with opener 'Je Suis Dans La Nuit' deploying reflective eskimo synths and crepuscular bass progressions; Phase O'Matic's 'Diskotech' making use of raw, flitty bleep leads and dead-of-night screams; and Lazer Man's 'Ozonar 12' opting for hollowed-out dub techno stabs and slinky minimal movements down below.

Review: There is a very loveable retro soul feel to this new package of trad house sounds from Steal Vybe & Lamone. It takes the form of a The Heatwave classic that has been all remade and flipped into a slightly more contemporary cut but one that will still make a big mark on the old school crew. The instrumental is a real gem but it's the soaring vocals and funky baselines of the original that are sure to get plenty of hammer under the sun this summer, especially the irresistible boogie mix. Review: Super-techy three-track jungle business from Sub Code Records, welcoming producers Lavery and Bow Street Runner for an "extremely limited" 12" pressing. Lying somewhere on the interstice of ragga and technical jungle - with a few soul and breakdance samples thrown in - we start off with the ruff sampleage of Lavery's 'Dead Soundboy', which happily chops and changes between pleasingly stereo'ed breaks and halfstep toasted breakdowns. The bread doesn't come out burnt, with Bow Street Runner's 'Butterfly Bass' grilling things just right, with its militant dancehall acapellas and no-holds-barred laserblasts leaving us hardly prepared for the track's sudden soul interjection. The collaborative closer 'My Yout' is by far the wickedest sound, with an untreated flute trill and entrancing break chop bottling a dubious mood; the listener is squarely placed in the narrative position of the yute in question, whom we gather is in the midst of being ordered to pass the rudeboy...

Both sides of this reissued 12" are massive to say the least with power couple Pascal and Denise Languirand aka Lady D really making their mark. Here on 'Imagination' there are strong electro influences as well as some firing percussive action that pays homage to freestyle and Latin sounds that were big n the LA scene when it was first penned. The big one though is 'I'm Yours Tonight' which brings fresh energy to house and is a real grail these days.

Review: Cowbeats is back with more fresh future moosic to make you moove. This fourth edition of their self-titled various artists series is another one packed with gems. Kurilo's 'Son Of The Sun' manages to make stuff beats feel funky, while Riku Sugimoto has plenty of snap in his kick and hit combinations throughout 'Coffee On Me.' There is a more cosmic sense of cruising when Solidwood dials you in on his sublime 'Working With Suspect' and Rizzi & Lapucci go for cold, snappy tech house as they offer up 'Mind From Another Kind. Review: Limited edition gold vinyl repress of Leviticus' monumental track, 'Burial', remastered for 2023 and back on its original home Philly Blunt. This release resurrects the original mixes alongside some iconic remixes from the 90s, encapsulating a significant chapter in the jungle movement. A landmark release, not only signifiying a pivotal era in jungle but also marking the inaugural release on Philly Blunt, kicking things off as they were meant to go on. Crafted in Dillinja's home studio under the collaborative genius of Jumpin Jack Frost, in turn operating under the moniker Leviticus, the original mixes appear in full force here - 'Madamoselle' and 'Lovers Rock' - resonating with rare groove and reggae influences that each propel the track to Notting Hill Carnival fixture status, eventually catching the ear of Pete Tong who facilitated a mainstream release on FFRR the following year.

Review: Japan's Thinner Groove flesh out their distinctive aesthetic with every new release. This time around, they welcome none other than Lemmi Ash, KOOLMFL and Sonic Weapon for a collaborative three-track EP of lowercase minimal tech and textural vignettes. The aim of the game is best encapsulated in the label's commentary: "each track can add a distinctive touch to the night, as like completing your cocktail with lemon and/or lime". Each track indeed sounds to the ear akin to how a fruity garnish tastes, with Ash's 'Presence' bringing tart citrine breaks notes to a gracefully held glass vessel. KOOLMFL's 'Atonbow' is drier bitters, barely availing itself of its trembling chords and sampled vox after an ultra-snappy initiation featuring a mere bass and kick-clap. Thinner Groove know all too well that good music is like an excitation of the flavour palate, and that minimality is the thing that lets such flavours sit.

Review: The deep and soulful house label based in Sweden, Cataleya Music, is a new label that is coming out blazing. Chicago's own Vick Lavender's 'No One's Going To Love You' offers us three strong mixes on one late night 12". The Instrumental keeps things on the up and up while having an overarching disco feeling to it that we just can't get enough of and just the right amount of funk, house and soul. The Coflo balances a bit of Latin feel but also is heavy on the instrumental showcasing doing the damage. Lastly, the dub version is an alternate ride that focuses more on the piano and groove and subtracts the vocals. Whichever one you go with; it should reign supreme on the turntables.

Review: Under the familiar Leo Zero alias, Leo Esltob has crafted countless killer re-edits over the last few decades - though only a limited number have ever been released. Hence the Edit Archive series of 12" EPs, which here reaches volume two. As you'd expect for a man of his experience and expertise, there's much to admire, from the sing-along powder-rock brilliance of 'Dreams' (a tasteful, extended re-work of one of the most famous and celebrated songs of the 1970s) and the re-vitalised Balearic brilliance of 'Taboo' (yep, it's an excellent Sade re-rub), to the loose-limbed-but-locked-in house-not-house headiness of 'Feel The Pain', with its echoing vocal snippets, metronomic cowbells and bubbly synth sounds.

Review: Akua Grant's outings as Lady Blacktronika are always worth checking, and her first full outing on Peggy Gou's Gudu label is no different. 'Baby I Got It' is full-on aural madness - a bombastic blend of beefy, redlined house drums, ghostly chords, pitched-up vocal samples and discordant minor key melodies - while 'Sing The Blues' is a deliciously drowsy chunk of wayward, dub-flecked deep house that's as beautiful as it is trippy. Best of all though is the locked-in deep house hypnotism of 'Hold My Hand', which features some superbly soulful vocal samples, metronomic bass and spacey electronic textures. Octa Octa provides a fine remix of that cut, too, re-imaging it as a stomping slab of lo-fi, funk-fuelled breakbeat house headiness.

Review: Lone's music has always been hugely colourful and has often taken huge inspiration from the rave era of the UK scene's 90s heyday. All that is true again of this new 12" on Greco Roman. It kicks off with 'Waterfall Reverse' which is a day glow, hands in the air, piano-laced jungle banger that does not hold back and douses you in inescapable euphoria. On the flip side is an utterly different proposition. 'Triton' is a pumping house cut with tight chord vamps, bumping drums and throwback r&b vocals. Two killers.

Review: Mighty European powerhouse Drumcode rolls out more of its techno tsunamis here with part one of the 12th volume of its A Sides collection. The boss himself, Adam Beyer, offers up one of the biggest cuts - 'Heading South' is a surging, straight-up techno weapon rippled with deft synths that ever forever on the move. Danny Avila's 'My Crew' (feat Flowdan) is built on a foundation of earth-shattering kicks and rolling bass with hellish stabs and vocal fragments making for an intense atmosphere, and Simina Grigoriu's 'Flight Tracker' is the sort of quick-moving techno sound to lock you into a trance. Add in LAAT's 'The Age Of Juno' (oi oi!) and you have a very useful and high impact EP of contemporary techno.
