Demi Riquisimo - "Maggy Doesn't Need To Know" (7:27)
Inner Zone - "The Vision" (5:23)
Donald's House - "Jam 3" (6:40)
Review: Big hello to new label A Lifetime On The Hips which has a great name and great stamp on this limited edition first 12". It kick off with a various artists affair packed with full flavour cosmic tech. Abdul Raeva opens up with the twinkling melodies and sleek tech drum work of 'Invasive Overdrive Track' then Aldonna's 'Inner Elation' gets more deep with a steamy whispered vocal and shimmering drums. There is more classic sound US house from Demi Riquisimo, lashing of snappy techno from The Vision and bouncy astral house from Donald's House's 'Jam 3'. A great first EP.

Aline Umber - "Satisfied"
Adrien Calvet - "The Foil"
Latent - "Interstellar Object"
Karaba - "Loop Da Loop"
Ilyes - "Last Organ I Promise"
Review: Adrien Calvert is building up a presence in that cheeky, chunky 90s revival happening around minimal tech house at the moment, and his Stay At Home label is becoming a hot bed of fresh and fruity house jams. Take this VA release as a fine case in point, welcoming the bulbous acid strutter 'Satisfied' by Aline Umber to shake its shoulders next to Calvert's own playful deep house joint 'The Foil'. Latent takes things space-wards on the B side with 'Interstellar Object' before Karaba completes the picture with the crafty beats and synapse-tickling synth delights of 'Loop Da Loop'.

Horace Andy - "Fever" (3:47)
Im & The Agg - "The Flue" (2:04)
Review: "Fever" is one of Horace Andy's biggest hits. Amazingly, it has never been given its own release so Studio One has done the right thing and put it out on a super loud 12" for the first time. It first landed way back in 1973 before Andy rose to contemporary fame appearing with Massive Attack on five of their albums, but still hits hard. The lush vocals sit well in the swinging drums and bass, and makes it a sure fire dance floor destroyer that won't hang around. Comes accompanied with a Cedric "Im" Brooks instrumental version on the flip.

Aron - "Shift"
Distilled Noise - "Trenta"
Idana - "Sunday"
Vern - "Orizont"
Review: Italian label Micro Orbit takes its bow here in the form of a various artists' EP across a nice heavyweight 12". Aron opens up with 'Shift' which is a bubbly minimal house cut with aqueous synths and popping drums. Distilled Noise's 'Trenta' then layers up more silky synth sounds with underlapping bass waves lifting you off your feet. Idana ups the ante with more uptempo and quickened drums and bass loops that are detailed with gorgeously wispy melodies on 'Sunday' before Vern closes down with 'Orizont' which is the most sleek and tech-y cut of the lot. As far as first releases go, this is one that bodes well for the future.

Young Pulse & Fleur De Mur - "Smooth Sweet Talker" (6:53)
Review: Get yourself geared up for festival season with some fierce party starters certified with the Glitterbox stamp. Melvo Baptiste leads the charge with 'Sweat', a sizzling disco house stomper with Dames Brown giving the biggest diva energy on her show-stopping vocal. Lovebirds bring unbridled joy on the Philly string swoon and slinky b-line funk of 'Burn It Down', while Art Of Tones & Inaya Day keep it peak time on the sassy strutter 'Give My Love'. Young Pulse & Fleur De Mur complete the set with 'Smooth Sweet Talker', another bright and bold vocal cut par excellence.

In Love With A Girl That Doesn't Exist (6:43)
Jambers At Carat Club (4:35)
The Return Of Van Rossem (4:38)
Review: A repress of Innershades & Betonkust's 2018 new beat sensation 'Forever In Boccaccio!' has long been requested by hardcore record collectors. And now it has become available and has been fully remastered and housed in a new sleeve design, limited to just 300 copies. It was first made, according to the two being it, in January 2017 "under grey Belgian skies," when they had been consuming lots of acid and new beat, which of course shows. The title cut is brilliantly dark and gothic but is backlit by haunting vocal harmonies and underpinned by a menacing bassline. The three other cuts explore similar moods and grooves with great authenticity.

Big Al - "If Only" (Silverlining dub) (7:34)
Fred Everything & Jay Tripwire - "Sometimes I Feel" (7:46)
Grant Dell - "Being There" (8:30)
Inland Knights - "Hands Up" (6:01)
Review: The Blind Vision label celebrates five years in the age with a nice look back at some of its Hidden Treasures From The Past. Big Al gets underway with an immediatly catchy and dubbed out, stripped back and cool-as-you-like groove in 'If Only' (Silverlining dub). Fred Everything & Jay Tripwire then link to sublet effect on the US garage groove that is 'Sometimes I Feel' with its liquid dub chords and steamy trumpet motifs, and Grant Dell goes for a deep cosmic workout on 'Being There.' Last of all is the chunky house funk of Inland Knights's 'Hands Up', a real dance floor heater with atmospheric vocal musings.

Blasha & Allatt - "8am In Salford" (6:01)
Phil Berg - "Dispatched" (5:56)
Spekki Webu - "Elevation" (6:55)
Ipeo - "Expander" (7:12)
Review: An international EP comp from Positivesource, the four tracks contained on this monstrous hard trance compendium are like sonic wake-up slaps. '8am In Salford' by Blasha and Allatt, while not elucidating where in Salford they're alluding to, certainly conjures all sorts of images of famous rave venue The White Hotel, with its alternating strobe lights and menacing size. The production on every track here is massive, each one emphasizing its kicks and percussion before weaving in additional melodic layers. Spekki Webu's 'Elavation' is the best techno tune we've heard in a while too; it's not often you hear such a well-rounded unity of sounds glued so tightly together.

Lectromagnetique - "Space Coast" (5:40)
Francois Dillinger - "Agitated Particles" (5:17)
CH415 - "Spaze Modulations" (4:23)
Review: Binary thinking has been around since the invention of coinage in ancient times. Indeed, there are two sides to every coin, or slab of vinyl. It's this seeming representation of two poles - heads or tails, 0 or 1, the spiritual world and the physical - that has led us to polemicize them in art, exploring either extreme playfully. On one end of the extreme you've got ultra-lofty new age music. On the other end, there are releases like 'Blue Binary Code', in this case hailing from Spanish label and musical assembly line, Gladio Operations. Their camp specialise in the kind of merciless, rationally-calculating, dystopically functional, robotic electro we all know and love, and these four new tracks, adding once again to their prolifically generative output, range from the scientific and gnarly ('Agitated Particles') to the surreal and sanitized ('NH3'). Of course, what is electro but a mere Operation?

Apoteoz & Flyuko - "Wazabi Sword" (6:22)
Itarima - "Amour Degueulasse" (6:12)
Nathanael - "Shroom One" (6:00)
Review: Massive weirdo minimal tech verging on wackout experimental dance from the Planete 51 crew, welcoming five of their greatest to the fore for a new V/A. With producer Brent kicking things off with a fiery fidgeter whose predilection for variation seems to know no end, 'Etoile' is a buzzing, alarmingly comical track, working in strange UI zaps, wobbles and film samples at seemingly every twist and turn. The vibe continues into the Chanbara themed 'Wazabi Sword', which is the ultimate samurai deep tech crossover tune. Itarima weirds things out further with 'Amour Degueulasse' with weirdcore detunings on the lead, before Nathanael takes on a mood of nighttime noir to close things out.

Den Haas - "The Spot" (6:41)
Review: Synkronized is just three releases deep now but is already an assured and reliable outlet for fresh house sounds. This latest offering takes the form of a various artists EP and opens with the brilliantly spaced out electronic house of'Lorenzo Chiabotti & Just_Me's 'Darko FM'. It's a silky one with balmy pads that encourage you to dive right in. Martin M's 'Pleasure Minds' then strips things backed to a nice and empty but rolling groove and on the flip Chad Andrew & Imbue get crunchy with their broken beats. That leaves just Den Haas with his mellifluous and pillow deep house cosmic delight, 'The Spot.'

Infrasoul - "Quanto Amor" (5:28)
Review: Collab EPs are back in fashion, and Tropical Disco are leading their charge. The boundlessly potentiated space between disco, dance and jazz is their game, and 'Tropical Disco Volume 23' proves they can win it time and time again. Four tracks of trumpetting 4x4 glory-buzz dominate this EP. Clean Is Good wipes the floor with disco-edit edge, while Moodena comes through with a mighty mood of motor city madness, and Sartorial and Infrasoul share the B-side with a pair of broken, drum-banging and glass-shattering instrumentals. There's even a disco flute in there somewhere.

Review: Shout out to the newly launched Onedub which opens its account here with a nice clean dancehall 12" that features Danman on 'Fussing N Fighting.' It has bright digital synth sounds and natty leads over airy, rubbery drums. The legendary Indica Dubs then step up for a hefty dub that becomes much more dark and menacing thanks to the sheer scale of the cavernous bass. Two further dubs take up the flip side for some melon twisting, sound system testing brilliance. This is a fine start to what is sure to become a label well worth following.

This one kicks off with the slow and heavy sounds of Deseplate's 'One Day' before the flute laced, jazz-tinged and stoner delights of Boss Mischief's 'Ice Cold.' Review: This time last year, Jimi Disko's excellent Emotions Electric label invited us to traverse 'Planetary Highways' in the company of a range of stargazing electro and techno producers. On 'The Outerworld', he opts for a similar approach, with four more talented producers delivering decidedly intergalactic and sci-fi seeped workouts. Innate co-founder Gilbert kicks things off with 'Fractals', a melodious, undeniably intergalactic chunk of widescreen deep electro brilliance, before Sound Synthesis wraps shimmering pads, melancholic chords and undulating acid lines around punchy electro beats and deep sub-bass on the similarly sublime 'Science of Gratitude'. Over on side B, INFO pays tribute to Warp's peerless Artificial Intelligence series with the shuffling and spacey 'Remember', while RekaB's 'Smooth Lines' is warm, woozy and effortlessly immersive.

It has been remixed during the 2020 UK lockdown at Ariwa Studios but the source material still stands proud. Machinedrum - "Lewasi" (3:50)
Throwing Shade - "Dream Scene" (3:27)
Review: According to Beating Heart, Hugh Tracey made several thousand field recordings across Sub-Saharan Africa between the 1920s and 1970s. His intention was to 'reveal the beauty and complexity of the music to a world that saw little value in it.' Fast forward to the present day, Tracey's bid to preserve the music of Africa for future generations lives on. Beating Heart has shared the late Tracey's archive at the International Library of African Music (ILAM) with contemporary producers and keeping in line with Tracey's vision, all proceeds will be used to assist people in the areas where the music was originally recorded. London's Throwing Shade, fresh of a great release for Ninja Tune turns in the vivid and polyrhythmic 'Dream Scene", Hotflush's Machinedrum gives us the intense polyrhythmic Sub Saharan trance induction of "Lewasi" while Ibibio Sound Machine gives us the soul-funk boogie of "Amai Ndiwulule".

Review: Throwdown Records throw down a fresh reissue of Ice Cube's stone cold classic 'You Know How We Do It', first released as a single from his fourth studio album Lethal Injection (1996). Emblematic of Cube's signature West Coast G-funk, this one's replete with the glissando'd whistles and smokey funk motifs we all know and love from the frozen rap hexahedron, who confidently assures us of us already knowing how he does it. There's no messing with Cube; the track appears alongside the original B flip '2 N The Morning', which ups the bombast to boomier, increasingly sexual nighttime ends.

Review: Two previously unheard righteous anthems from the sweet-voiced Icho Candy. The A side, 'Get Up Natty' was cut at Channel One in the mid-eighties, with backing by the Gifted Roots Band, and features an instantly recognisable bed of squelchy FX, elastic synth leads and choppy upstrokes, while the flip is an emotive new cut featuring legends from the Firehouse and Channel One production camps on the riddim. It's great to hear Icho still in fine style, delivering a timeless anthem with a positive message. Both sides also include excellent dubwise versions. The release rate and quality levels have remained high with the likes of breakout Leeds artist Breakface impressing back in May. Now, 18 months or so after their last outing, Ickle & Hotsteppas are back on the label with some more fresh dubs. First up, 'No Love, No Peace' Ft Prince Jaco is a big, fresh roller with great height and serious bass weight. The dub strips things back to melon-twisting echo and reverb and 'Mr Government' (feat Lionpulse) is an organic dub with brilliantly elastic bass. 'Leroy Sax Version' is a sax-laced dub of the same tune.

Accumbens (6:19)
Review: Zurich producer and DJ, Idealist, has been quietly churning out magnetic shades of house and dub techno since 2012. Through his own Idealistmusic, along with a number of other below-radar imprints, we have been graced by a gentle yet penetrative sound that recalls the very best of the 90s Berlin scene. So much so, in fact, that he's been called upon by the excellent Echochord label to run the dub techno slayings across three cuts. "Flow" is a powerful, direct slice of techno that fades its deep basslines and synths out into the ether, producing a hypnotic effect that we're big fans of. On the flip, "Nucleus" slows the pace down but doesn't hold back on those prototypical dub chords in what makes for a real 3am kinda lick, while "Accumbens" pokes its head out of the depths and produces a tight drum roll backed by soothing, meditative synths. Class.

Review: Not to be confused with the 12th studio album by Mary J. Blige, or any of the other records with 'London Sessions' in the title (and there will be many, many), it's now 50 years since Iggy Pop and his Stooges sat down to record the now-legendary LP, Raw Power, with sessions taking place (you guessed it), in London. Logically, this extended player collates some of the best versions that didn't make the final cut into one place, and as such is definitely a must for diehard fans and collectors.

Not that others should be put off in anyway. We'd still recommend getting a copy of the original as it was intended to be released. The players designed it that way. But this is also a well-worth owning piece of punk rock history, with unrelenting, unpolished, uncompromising and unapologetic noise sounding as infectious today as it did back then.

The Passenger (live mix) (4:40)
China Girl (alternative mix) (4:27)
Review: A new Iggy Pop reissue campaign has come to complement the release of his new album, Every Loser. One such rerelease is 'The Passenger', arguably Osterberg Jr.'s most iconic track from his post-Stooges Lust For Life heyday. The twist is that this version is an alternative live recording: out on limited 7" vinyl, we're reminded of the values espoused by one Pop's best and most popular songs. Vagabondism, road trips, passing through, wanderers. An ode to insecurity and temporality, the song sounds as infectious as ever, especially when paired with a further sonic gem, 'China Girl', probably best known in its version from Bowie's 80s purple patch of hits. Note: these alternative versions are not available anywhere else.

Review: Ignez is a regular on the Ghent label Token and now returns home with another textural techno outing filled with well-designed open spaces that help draw you in. The rather minimalist title track 'Aventurine' kick off with slick rolling drums and only the most deft synth details peeling off the groove next to more edgy and occasional stabs and whispered vocals. It's atmospheric stuff where 'Seraphic' is more eerie and paranoid in its synth sounds. 'Verdant' is more direct and visceral with its lashing lines and hard-edge drums and 'Cure' is a dubbed-out quick-stepper.

I Love You (DJ Mitsu The beats remix - instrumental) (3:33)
Review: Cantaro Ihara won himself plenty of friends in the deep-digging vinyl community last year with a very special Japanese cover of free soul star Weldon Irvine's 'I Love You' on a lush little 45rpm. It is now a hard-to-find and expensive record that has been remixed by the one and only beatmaker DJ Mitsu The Beats. He adds one his tight, textbook beats under the lush and airy vocal harmonies to make for something playful and jazzy. On the flip is an instrumental version that really showcases DJ Mitsu The Beats next-level production chops. Cop this one while you can, because it's sure to fly just like the original.

Review: Lithuanian craftsman IJO comes correct on Amenology with the brutalist 'Jungle Distance'. Think Equinox, think Paradox, think pure Amen science, blasting at you at 160mph with ice cold pads lurking in the background... before a stunning breakdown sweeps you off your feet. For the remix IJO brings a whole new wave of space, thicker pads and a deep funk in that slinky bassline. Mileage for your missions.

Review: Welcome to the realist world of No Amen - a relatively new sister label from Amenology that reminds us that not all jungle needs to be powered by an Amen break. Following inaugural dispatches from Kid Lib come two beautiful explorations from Lithuanian artist IJO. 'Stay' sets an emotional scene with lush sweeping pads before the drums splinter in two different but strangely complementing ways. Futurism at its sharpest, it's an exciting statement. 'Melody Blues' follows more of a conventional route with a dreamier GLR type of vibe and plenty of Think break sculpture.

Half A God (Powell remix)
Cherish 8 (The KVB remix)
Cherish 8 (Vessel remix)
NCR (Bandshell remix)
Review: Whilst remix EPs are by no means the most original of concepts, French label Desire should be applauded for their set of Ike Yard Remix EPs due to the calibre of those involved. Previous editions have seen contributions from Regis, Monoton, Tropic of Cancer and former Ike Yard synth player Fred Szymanski and this third and final EP sees the label turn to a younger generation with equally compelling results. Diagonal boss Powell might be new to remixes (this is only his second after reconstructing Silent Servant for Jealous God) but he's evidently willing and capable to dissect the source and reassemble in his own style. Put simply, little of "Half A God" remains here but Powell's remix will resonate immediately with anyone that consumed his original work last year. Elsewhere The KVB essentially throw down a cover version of "Cherish 8" whilst Vessel's accompanying mix of the same track should sound deafening on a big system and much the same can be said about Bandshell's refix of "NCR".

Review: If this is your first run in with New York's Ike Yard then Factory Records might be a good place to start - these guys were the first US act to sign with the iconic but doomed Manchester label back in the day, and that says a lot about what to expect from their output. This was their first EP, released in 1981, making their proto-post punk and no wave trappings all the more groundbreaking.

The five tracks still stand up today, and certainly compare with some of the era and canon's definitive names. It would be unfair to say you can hear A Certain Ratio, Joy Division or Section 25 here, though, as Ike Yard were doing this at roughly same time to those UK counterparts, so it's less about mimicry and more a sign of just how necessary noises like this were back then.

Review: Since the mid 1990s electronic explorer and sound designer Ryoji Ikeda has amassed a vast catalogue of releases. Some of these, though, are either hard to find or were only released on certain formats - hence this release on Sahko. It gathers together two lengthy compositions from early in his career that were previously only available on CD. Our pick of the pair is gorgeous A-side 'Luxus 1-3', a stunning, 16-minute suite from 1995 debut album 1000 Fragments that fuses deep space ambience with the orchestral musical cycles of American minimalism and plenty of gently mild-altering effects. Flipside 'Space', which first surfaced in 1998, is a ghostly piece of haunting sound design in which distance sub-bass tones struggle to break through a dense fog of creeping chords and digital watch bleeps.

Review: Toolroom share the seventh instalment of their label Sampler series, bringing together four new ones from six artists in their roster; Martin Ikin, Raumakustik & Tony Romera, Low Steppa & Crusy, and Eden Prince. These are huge, ravey, deep techy numbers for the big-room-inclined; we're rhythmically and vocal-samply implored to oscillate at a nigh-militant frequency, though the impulse to dance doesn't come without its shuffles and wonks. Our highlight here is the beatless breakdown in 'BFG', on which that delicious chord stab truncates all expectations thereafter.

Review: The Yoruba label is a home to some of house music's most spiritual sounds. It is music with genuine depth and real artistry and next up is Afefe Iku with a stunning three tracker that takes you into another dimension. First up is the quietly intense and steamy 'Sista Georgia' with its dark-soul strings and spoken word vocal licking you in as the wood block hits swing nicely. 'Karma Debt' is more playful, with vast great kick drums and jazzy keys up top. 'Saffron' closes out with a melancholic house groove, warming xylophone melodies and an intoxicating atmosphere.

Review: Ildec shows plenty of class on this diverse new EP for Belgium's Altered Circuits. It has its roots in an early 90s electronic sound with plenty of inspiration from the artist's own compelling DJ sets. The Ibiza-based producer opens up with the atmospheric synths of 'El Principio' then gets gritty on tough tech loops on 'Modificacion' and explores a more funky broken beat vibe on 'El Break Del Dia'. 'El Break De La Noche' is cyborg funk with freaky effects and alien life forms and two closers get nice and bumpy with twisted bass and off-kilter rhythms.

Review: Four producers butt heads at a figurative label-family cookout - Ildec, Iamalice, Minority Retort and Apoteoz, all repping Friends & Family Affair (or rather, being repped by them). The four Francs each deliver tracks that reflect their individual takes on ideas of the squelchy, the unfussy, the vulgar, the cheeky. The future sound of Marseille, if you will - unsurprising given the city's recent upsurge in popularity as a party destination. Our highlights are the quizzical, light '51' by Apoteoz and the plodding chunkiness of Iamalice's 'The Purge'.

Review: 'Creep Wit' Me' was the debut album by East Coast hip hop duo Ill Al Skratch. The production is as slow and smooth as you like from The LG Experience and LoRider, with party rhymes finishing it off in irresistible style. For that reason it was one of the group's most successful singles and the lead off their album of the same name, which peaked at number 137 on the Billboard 200. The tune samples 'Overnight Sensation' by Avalance and 'Deep Cover' by Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg and is included both in original form as well as a slick 7" edit dub mix. One for those cosy late night sessions for sure.

And this is one such case as the project is centered around 99-year-old Iboja Wandall-Holm who sings about memories from her childhood growing up in Eastern Europe. The record plays out like a musical encounter where the songs are worked into magical forms by Danish musician Mikkel Hess and other members of his Hess Is More band with extra collaborative input from label head and producer Kenneth Bager.

Illumination - "The Way Out Is The Way" (1998)
Mr Marvin - "I Want You" (1993)
Fuel - "Rigid" (1995)
Review: As the title suggests, this rather delayed 12" from Optimo Trax is "is all about the drums" and features a trio of DJ tools from across the 1990s that have been long term dancefloor weapons for label boss JD Twitch. Of most interest is A Side production "The Way Out Is The Way" by Illumination, an Anglo-Norse pairing of Nicholas Stilltoe and Per 'Mental Overdrive' Martinsen, which was originally released as a B-Side on Music Man back in 1998. Twitch has apparently been mistakenly playing his original version at 45rpm instead of its intended 33rpm, and it's been pressed on this sampler to be played at either speed. The apocalyptic drum cascades of "The Way Out Is The Way" are complemented by the snare happy "Rigid" by Fuel and a tribalish track from Mr. Marvin, originally released on R&S offshoot Global Cuts in 1993.

Review: This EP showcases Ilo aka olafur Breidfjord's deep house and tech house style with three tracks that explore different aspects of the genre. The title track, 'Supernature' is a soulful house cover of Cerrone's 1977 disco classic. Breidfjord's version retains the original's catchy vocal and infectious groove, while adding his own unique touch with lush chords and a driving bassline. 'You' is a perfect track B-Side for this record, adding this alternative heater. 'Am I Feeling Good?' is a grittier track, with a driving beat and tough bassline. It's a perfect track for getting the party started, or for keeping the energy levels high on the dancefloor. The three tracks offer something for everyone, from soulful house to tech house to disco.

Their one and only release from 1984 'Hot Stuff' is an anthem for those that know, and the infectiously neon-lit gem gets a reissue here on ZYX, complete with remixes by the usual suspects. Fleming Dalum of Centre Neptune harnesses all the energy of the original yet still provides a modern reshape on his respectful rendition, while London's Ali Renault takes the track deeper into the night with his foggier perspective. Also included of course is the original B side, the Spasmo Version - Instrumental.
