TRINITY Remixed
Cat: TRESOR 224. Rel: 02 Jun 06
Pagodas (Adam Beyer remix)
Woman Scent (Hertz remix)
Tresor West (Chris Liebing remix)
Womans Scent (Heinrich Mueller remix)
Review: The Advent's brilliant "Sketches" recordings on Tresor were unmistakably essential in the progression of tough, intelligent techno music from the 1990s into the new century. Cisco Ferreira challenged the dance music establishment from the underground and continues to deliver his blistering style well into the first decade, as demonstrated with gusto on his 2005 Tresor album "TRINITY". With its wall-of-sound penchant for no-nonsense, in-your-face techno music for purists, Ferreira naturally took this penchant into the most respected leagues of electronic music's world of production and remixing, when he decided to deliver three tracks from his album into the hands of four international experts.

Never Sleep (5:17)
Gaze (5:39)
Obsession (4:42)
Driving Stars (4:49)
Into A Diamond (5:22)
Review: Angela and Daniele are an Italian pair from Naples who work together as Fireground. They turned heads from their first EP Dualism on Tresor in 2021 and have remained with the label since. It is there that they return with what is presumably a new series, Refreshing Part, as this is installment one. They have a frantic and frantic techno sounds rooted in the 90s school of box banging. 'Never Sleep' opens on that manic tip before 'Gaze' is a little more stripped back but no less potent. Elsewhere the caustic textures of 'Into A Diamond' are almost enough make your eyes water.

Cat: TRESOR 365. Rel: 17 Jun 24
The Element (5:17)
Riva (5:29)
Love Letter (6:00)
Etereo (5:42)
Review: Fireground's Love Letter EP on the legendary techno label Tresor delivers a dynamic journey through the realms of early 90s techno and house fusion. On Side-1, 'The Element' ignites the dancefloor with its big, rave-inspired sounds and UK rave influences, while 'Riva' seamlessly blends high-energy house and techno, punctuated by catchy melodic moments. On Side-2, 'Love Letter' takes the listener on a deeper voyage with its mid-90s warehouse vibe, exuding a late-night atmosphere with subtle disco undertones. Closing the EP, 'Etereo' serves as a perfect end-of-the-night track, enveloping the listener in its atmospheric soundscape. Firegrounds' talented ability to mix nostalgic elements with contemporary production techniques shines throughout Love Letter, making it a peak time record that will go over great at the disco.

Awakening From The Illusory Self
Awakening From The Illusory Self (180 gram vinyl 12" + MP3 download code)
Cat: TRESOR 320. Rel: 04 Jun 21
An Optical Illusion Of Consciousness (6:20)
Compulsive Thinking: Repetitive & Pointless (6:34)
Misinterpretations Of Reality (9:21)
Spiritually Unconscious (Dissolve) (6:46)
Review: Dave Sumner's Function project is one of techno's most consistently well regarded. Awakening From The Illusory Self is another release that backs that up, and it follows on form his last full length, 2019's Existenz. The tempo is high, the quality higher, with 'An Optical Illusion Of Consciousness' layering up rubbery drums and bass, warped synth and bleeping melodies into something gooey and languid yet compelling as hell. 'Compulsive Thinking: Repetitive & Pointless' is more tense with its edgy sounds and rugged drums loops, then the flip races through outerspace on waves of booming techno deepness.

Kern Vol 3: The Rarities
Cat: KERN 003EP2. Rel: 05 Jul 16
Pollon - "Lost Souls" (5:44)
Fret - "Stuck" (6:16)
Future/Past - "Nebula Variation" (5:49)
Mono Junk - "I'm Okey" (5:12)
Review: If seeking out exclusives for his Kern mix on Tresor from artists as varied as Clatterbox, Via App and Shanti Celeste demonstrated Objekt's standing within the techno community, this 'Rarities' sampler reflects the Berlin DJ and producer's deep knowledge. The four tracks here see Objekt dip into the yawning chasm that is the techno archive, selecting '90s-era tracks from Fret, Mono Junk and Kirk Digiorgio's Future/Past alias, complemented by a turn of the century curio by Pollon. Of these four, it's "Stuck" from Fret aka Mick Harris that stands out in particular, a dark and sleek rhythmic kick that feels like a hybrid of Autechre and Hessle Audio.

Under Skin (1:55)
Review: Regis and Female's Againstnature album from 2000 gets the full reissue treatment here by Berlin label, Tresor. Released under their given names Karl O'Connor and Peter Sutton, the record is a noted zenith of the Birmingham techno scene of the era. It has had a major influence on the music that was released in the years after and has here been remastered for a fresh double vinyl pack. As well as the original sounds, there is also 'Theme From Streetwalke,' a track that was previously released on a Tresor compilation. The tracks are heavy but relatively stripped back. They're packed with texture and atmosphere and never less than hugely compelling.

Review: Formed as the collaborative project of techno legends Mark Broom & James Ruskin, The Fear Ratio was created as a means for the pair to explore their more experimental urges, away from their usual house and techno, through which both found success in the 1990s. Their new album under that name, 'Slinky', features British rapper King Kashmere, and a one-off vocal cameo from London singer Ella Fleur on the track 'Lacovset'.

Landline (7:50)
Review: The Tresor crew spent much of the early 1990s creating links between Berlin and Detroit, so it seems fitting that the label's latest release is a double album-length collaboration between local legend Thomas Fehlmann (most famous in recent years for his work with Alex Paterson as the Orb) and Motor City stalwart Terrence Dixon. Utilising what sounds like a range of modular and analogue equipment, the duo rolls through a sextet of cuts that skillfully combine elements of jacking acid, stomping analogue house, twisted techno, Detroit futurism and Conrad Schnitzler style experimentation. It's rather more fun than many may have expected, with Dixon ensuring that the grooves, bleeping melodies and angular electronics come laden with dancefloor funk.

Review: In recent years, David Sumner's music as Function has tended towards the dark, lo-fi, industrial and minimal. "Existenz", his first solo album in six years, is an altogether more melodious, thoughtful and ear-catching affair. Of course, there are still some suitably mangled, mind-altering club cuts on show - see the buzzing, shape-shifting heaviness of "Ertrinken", the spaced-out hypnotism of "Kurzstrecke" and the Berghain-ready "Vampire" - but these largely play second fiddle to more playful and tuneful expressions of electro, Detroit style techno, dreamy fusions of deep house and early UK style tech-house, and ambient cuts so lovely you'll want to bathe in them. He even makes room for a couple of vocal collaborations with Robert Owens. It all adds up to a stunning set that's undoubtedly one of the most instantly arresting techno albums of the year.
