100th Monkey & Tristan - "Gobi Desert" (Parallax Deep edit) (7:51)
Four Carry Nuts - "Bunker" (Parallax Deep edit) (9:08)
Review: There is a great backstory to this new one on Blue Hour: when Stockholm producer, DJ and promoter Maya Lourenco aka Parallax Deep was digging for music in the local Snickers Record store, she found two classic goa and psy trance tracks that particularly interested her. As such she snapped them up, took them home and began to work on her own distinctive edits of them, rearranging sections, cutting up bits and adding extra details while never getting too far away from the essence of the originals. Her edits of those two originals - 'Gobi Desert' by 100th Monkey & Tristan from 1995 - and 2000's 'Bunker' by Four Carry Nuts - are pressed up here and both sound brilliant.

Review: Tad Mullinix and D'Marc Cantu roll back the clock to the days when labels like Djax and Dancemania ruled the roost with artists like Paul Johnson and Armando were making dancefloors Sweat. This 4 tracker on the Spectral label captures that dirty acid house vibe like nothing we've heard in ages. Pure sexed up dance music to get off to.

Review: Dutch label Illegal Alien is rightly celebrating its last 16 years in existence. It's doing so with a bumper collection of 44 exclusive tracks from 46 of its best artists across an eight-volume vinyl and digital series. The series not only traces the label's evolution, but that of techno itself and this sixth outing once again offers no-nonsense, heady and atmospheric techno that is both physical and inventive. Legendary names old and new like Fixon, The Advent, Cari Lekebusch & Orion and Mari Mattham & Jessse all contribute a range of essential dancefloor weapons.

Modulator AKA Freddie Fresh - "Promars" (5:27)
Review: EPM20 Ep2 goes off on an electro tangent here. On this one, we have veteran producer Cisco Ferreira aka The Advent teaming up with his son Zein on the ferocious electro dystopia of "Strangeform" and as if that was not enough, another legend, the one and only Carl Finlow appears next with the abstract, cybernetic beats of "Optogenetic". Over on the flip, we have someone by the name of Detroit's Filthiest (quite an accolade!) who is in fact Motor City stalwart Julian Shamou (Motor City Electro Company) known for his work as 313 Bass Mechanics or Digitek, and longstanding hero of the Midwest Freddie Fresh should need no introduction; his contribution here under the Modulator alias is the deep mind IDM journey "Promars".

AIROD - "The Last Of Us" (Regal remix) (7:02)
Antigone - "No Way Back" (5:39)
Fractions - "Silence" (5:49)
Review: Dario Brkic is AIROD, a Parisian producer and DJ with a passion for electronic and techno music who has launched his own label Elixyr Records. He unleashes tracks on the harder fringes of club music on the Last Of Us, and he's even joined by some of his contemporaries. AIROD signals the death of euphoria on the pummeling peak time fury of the title track, which receives a strobed-out trance rendition by Spain's Regal. Over on the flip, French hypnotic techno engineer Antigone lunges straight for the jugular on the punishing 'No Way Back' followed by Czech duo Fractions with another menacing dose of their TBM sound on 'Silence'.

Fantastic Man - "On The Run" (5:54)
ESB - "Sequential Dub" (6:44)
2wo2imes - "Immune" (6:40)
Review: With previous appearances from talents such as D. Tiffany, Iron Curtis and Priori, Canadian label 00:AM bring you their fourth various artists compilation. On the A side of 00AM 004, they roped in two artists that they've have had the pleasure of hosting in Montreal over the past couple years: the inimitable DJ Fett Burger, who gives Copenhagen's Alfredo92 (Axces) a woozy slo-mo acid rework of his 'Tente Hjul' (XB3711 F3 Remix). This one is perfect tackle for getting weird at the afterhours. On the flip it's clearly more of a dub techno affair, and where this EP really got us moving and grooving: Vancouver's Elan Benaroch aka ESB with the rolling and hypnotic "Sequential Dub", followed by the glacial and cavernous thump of "Immune" by 2wo2imes taking you deeper into the Quebec winter frost.

Review: Dungeon Funk lands heavily here with a debut release that sets a good standard from the off. This marks the first time that assured and hardcore deep house heads Dungeon Meat and SlapFunk Records have come together and it is the result of Meat man Brawther hosting a comp on his Patreon channel for aspiring producers to try and impress. From the many entries he received, the four best are served up here starting with Ibiza-based A.M. Project whose 'Flippin' Kicks' has heavyweight kicks and plunging bass. UK-based ADMNTi & Jack Ling offer the quick tech funk of 'Meat Slap', Russia's Fanick brings a trippy breakbeat vibe with 'Watch Me' and Canada's Modal Logic offers 'Space and Science Center', a nice loopy and low-slung banger to close.

Amato Y Mariana - "Quieres Bailar" (5:39)
The Sixteen Steps - "Montgat" (6:46)
His Dirty Secrets - "Structures" (6:15)
Further Reductions - "Another Stranger" (4:56)
Review: BOOM! Our favourites, Cititrax, roll the third editions of Tracks out onto our shelves, and the results are unsurprisingly strong on this excellent various artists comp. It's a mixed bag of skills, as per usual, and the sounds are those of a new NYC, fuelled by a new sort of post-industrial sensibility. Amato Y Mariana open with the tight beats and groove of "Queires Bailar", followed closely by the ominous compositions of the EBM-flavoured "Montgat" from The Sixteen Steps. On the flip, His Dirty Secrets bleeps out some morphed acid on "Structures", and "Another Stranger" from Further Reductions churns out a slow, mild-mannered house experiment with its roots clearly planted in the coldest of waves. Sick.

Audio Injection - "Charge"
Dax J - "From The Grave"
Cleric - "Natural Process A"
Franco Gonzalez - "Submarine"
Review: Emerging from nowhere earlier this year, the LDN WHT label made quite the impression with their inaugural release incorporating full on productions from Bleaching Agent, Viktoria Rebekah, Krill Music's Espen Lauritzen and under rated Dutchman Charlton. The vinyl only London operation offer a similarly intriguing selection for release number 2 with Audio Injection and Dax J the headline draw alongside up and comers Franco Gonzales and Cleric. The presence of David Flores' Audio Injection project is naturally quite impressive and "Charge" is typical of the booming heavyweight material the Los Angeles resident has been filtering through his own Droid imprint. Ear To The Ground's Dax J is on fine form with "From The Grave" which takes a frenetic approach to taut acid tinged raw techno that still finds room for moments of mechanised emotion. Down town "Natural Process A" sees Cleric draw on the melodic approach of 'BFC' era Carl Craig within a modern rhythmic framework whilst Argentinean Gonzales demonstrates a looseness in drum programming that immediately catches the ear on "Submarine".

Review: Respected Italian artist Alan Backdrop joins forces with First Order Approximation for the second release from the Sense Code label. This tasteful techno split delves into the darkest realms of deep techno right from the off with 'Converging To Center' drilling down into a desolate wasteland. 'Gravity Self' is another suspensory linear groove with no signs of human life and 'Obsessive Behaviour' is a heady one with static electricity fizzing about the rubbery drums. This collection of hypnotic and ever-evolving tracks is designed for smoky basements and late-night sessions for real heads.

Strange Gait
Review: A unique theme is central to this fourth release from the intermittently active Smorgasbord label and one you feel may unlimited potential to be explored through other contributing artists. In plain terms, the label tasked Bass Clef and Frak to swap unfinished stem files for tracks without any further input from the other. Lead cut "Bad Trip" seems to Bass Clef's take on Frak's stems, and features perhaps the debut appearance of Ralph Cumbers' own vocals amidst some wonderfully skewed electronics that never sit still for a second. On the flip Frak draw from the same pool of creativity that has spurred recent muscular techno excursions on Kontra, Tsar et al with their mutation of "Strange Gait".

Wilson is now synonymous with wild acid workouts and 303 magic and he serves up more of it here on the mind-melting10 minute 'Mind Travel'. The lesser spotted veteran Bizz O.D. then brings some jack to her previously unreleased bomb 'One Two,' which was recorded in the mid-'90s but still sounds future. Last of all is the label head FIT Siegel with 'No Feedback,' a studio sampling exercise turned experimental broken beat techno workout with hypnotic effects. Here's hoping many more of these will follow.

Review: This new collection offers up a quartet of tracks that are all tailored for slightly different moments on the dance floor. On side A, Dani Casarano kicks off with deep, hypnotic grooves that make for an immersive atmosphere before transitioning to punchy, bass-driven energy with other cuts. Side B introduces a new alter ego from Felian and Bruno Schmidt and the pair explore a robotic, looping groove with incidental breaks and nostalgic synths in the euphoric third track. Closing the release in style, Omar Akrhif & Lucretio present a minimalist masterpiece that is aimed at heady after-hours sessions.

Review: Lunfardo's 'El misterio de Tambores' EP is a conceptual 12" deeply rooted in Uruguayan culture from a quartet of contemporary artists in Charlou (France), Fakk (Argentina), and Uruguayans Cabanelas - Marivo and Arturo. The release explores the hidden history of Carlos Gardel, "El Mago," a pivotal figure in Tango, who pioneered video clips, radio broadcasting in Uruguay, and the first sound films from "el Rio de la Plata." Gardel, known for using 'Lunfardo' in his lyrics, has had his nationality debated for years, but this album clarifies his story while also laying down some fresh deep techno grooves steeped in mysticism.

Review: There is plenty of experimental work at play int his new various artists' collection on Flash. Cloned Existence sets that tone with the brief synth exploration that is 'Wave 1' when Gael & Jolly take off with the much more punchy and thudding techno of 'Paradigm Shock' which is weird up with all sorts of synth designs, effects and layers of reverb. Under Black Helmet ups the ante further with one of those bulky techno grooves that locks you in the moment and Stigmata then brings big room 90s vibes with layers of tangled synth melting the mind. Florian Meindl brings things to a close with gritty, scraping bass, reverb-heavy kicks and pure warehouse techno heaviness.

It is a six track various artists EP that comes on silver marbled vinyl and opens with the sleazy underworld sounds of 'Selva Oscura' from Conceptual. Orbe's 'Thorax' then goes down a deep, dark late night techno tunnel in mind melting fashion and Sciahri's deft loops on 'No Fear' leave you feeling utterly in the moment. Review: Calypso are back with another clutch of exciting mavericks orbiting the weirder end of the contemporary club spectrum. There are minimal wave influences to be tacitly detected on Nicola Cruz's "Tu Recuerdo" as well as kind of stripped back acid freakiness, while in FE's "Tarde O Temprano" there's even more gritty, industrial tinged bite in the billowing surges of machine rhythms. Quixosis takes some wonderfully lilting traditional percussion and gives it a freaky treatment which makes for the kind of slow jam Weatherall would have wielded with aplomb. NTFL finishes this ear-snagging compilation off with the plaintive, Dembow-tinted "Vacio".

Cryk kicks off with an eerie blend of Italo arps and dark wave drums with electro overtones on 'Double Crash' then the moodiness continues with the depraved bass warbles and crashing hits of Fragedis and his 'Disco Nicotina.' Review: US label Modularz returns with another split 12" boasting a remix from Sandwell District don Silent Servant. The Revisited EP opens with the wonderfully unhinged techno of "Revister" by Modularz regular Developer. This vies for your attention on an A-Side boasting a remix of Developer's "Edificio" by the aforementioned Silent Servant, which chugs along with rasping hats and cavernous low frequencies. The last time we heard Fanon Flowers the American producer was TCB on a sumptuous EP for the Sect imprint, and here the producer maintains that form with the moody late night jack of "Prado Obscuro". This is accompanied by the thick loopy melodies of Developer's "More Seduction", rounding off another killer release from a label that is fast gaining a place in Juno's affections.

Review: Another Downwards nugget gets the re-release treatment. This time the classic "Playground Procedure" by Diversion Group (The Birmingham techno supergroup consisting of Regis, Surgeon and Female) has been completely re-cut and re-mastered from the original tapes to create a bigger, louder dancefloor beast. Trimming away the ambient interludes, and focusing on the beats means a louder more evil cut - maybe offending the Downwards purists in the process - but this record serves a different purpose for a different time. "All Boys / No Girls" is a driving groove that manages to sound dense and open at the same time - this will be heads down dancefloor action all the way. On the flip, "Shirts & Skins" is a kick 'n' stick 'n' blip theme for when the DJ needs to hold the pressure. Limited initial pressing, with the first 400 pressed on clear vinyl.

Review: Sleep D's Butter Sessions label has consistently hit the mark since launching back in 2013, largely through showcasing the work of a talented group of Melbourne-based artists. This time round they look further afield, offering a debut to Adelaide misfits DJ Dogg and Furious Frank. They hit the mark from the off, setting off towards the stratosphere with the leftfield techno wonkiness of "Space Call" (think trippy electronics, pulsating bass and Sheffield style bleeps). Their intergalactic inspirations are mined further on flipside "Flamen Galah", which deftly combines elements of spacey deep house, dub-wise techno, and bubbly electro. Friend-of-the-family DJ Fett Burger steps up to remix that track, giving it a rougher, break-driven feel, whilst retaining the duo's spacey pads and heavy bass.

As expected, it's a wonderful collaboration between the label's most coveted artists and it might well be the best in the series yet! DJ Spider, who has a second EP in the works for London's TTT, gives us a "Hive-Mind", a dark and menacing techno shocker, while Dakini9's "Lost" is deeper, more ethereal and one for the heads. On the flip, homeboy Franklin De Costa's "Retreat" is a bass-heavy house-techno hybrid, whereas "E/B" by Divvorce is a slamming house banger with an dark, gritty undertone of the street's harsh landscapes. Review: Berlin operation Killekill continue where they left off with their impressive releases last year, with Genetically Modified Tracks the end product of pairing DJ Spider and Franklin De Costa together. Given the formidable nature of their individual production credentials, it's not surprising that the four tracks here left us craving more. Rhythmically, Spider and De Costa don't stray far from the 4/4 template but it's what occurs around it that's so memorable. It's no more apparent than on "Buzzsaw" where a sticky wooden block style rhythm is made all the more viscous by the thick bass line, muffled vocals and blurred jazz licks that cloak the channels. Elsewhere "The Unseen" is perhaps the most straight up dancefloor number, underpinned by a sense of impending gloom, which is a sensation shared with the post apocalyptic rumble of opening track "Slithis".

Review: DJ Spider and de Costa follow their debut on Killekill with another rough and raw techno release. It begins with "Second Bass", where tough, distorted drums and a searing bass are put through a filter that see them plunging and climaxing in an unpredictable manner. At the outset, it seems like "Comsume" might follow in a similar path, but its distorted kicks gradually give way to spiralling acid lines and a sci-fi movie sample that proclaims "it came without warning...like nothing on this earth". It's hard to know whether the unnamed vocalist is talking about the track itself, or "Coffee Break", the distorted, stepping rhythm that follows, but either way it's certain that there are few other releases like this doing the rounds.

Doctors Pepper - "Sgt Pepper" (7:10)
Fashion - "U Mind" (6:33)
Fashion - "Blown" (feat Eggman & DJ Spence) (4:47)
Review: It's an utterly heads down, eyes forward affair that kicks off the new Doo EP. Doctors Pepper is a superb collaborative project, and they craft a perfectly distilled minimal techno groove so deep it almost disappears out of sight. Fashion then steps up with 'U Mind', which is just as barely-there, but with a more eerie lead and icy pads. It's heady tackle to get you in a trance. Last of all, Fashion enlists Eggman & DJ Spence to feature on 'Blown', which is a creeping, stuttering bass tune with cavernous beats and late night mischief in the impish synth spirits.

Algorithm (5:35)
Review: Veteran producer Dubfire certainly requires no introduction, nor does the mighty Drumcode who the American producer appears for here in collaboration with Argentina's Flug (REKIDS/Suara) on these two serious tracks. The A side cut 'Rampart' is fierce tribal techno banger reminiscent of Detroit legend Gary Martin, a workout that's geared for those proper heads-down moments on the dancefloor. Equally as austere on the B-side we have the locomotive stomp of "Algorithm" loaded directly off the factory floor with its dubby and greyscale execution.

Review: You can always count on the mighty Drumcode stable for proper peak time techno tools, and it's no more Mr Nice Guy on this one - we can tell you that much. Industry heavyweight Dubfire of Sci+ Tec fame teaming here with rising Argentinian Flug on the austere warehouse techno banger 'Rubber' which will pummel you into submission via its seething acidic snarl, underpinned by steely rapid-fire rhythms. On the flip, prepare to lose yourself under the strobe light on the mentalist tunnel vision of 'Metanoia' where its powerful locomotive groove follows a hypnotic and droning lead - deep into the Sunday morning hours.

Egebamyasi - "Goldtooth" (6:08)
Foxtrot vs Ma Bla - "Deep Down Inside" (5:46)
bRz vs Stije - "ISCO" (12:48)
Review: FOXBAM INC is back to build on the momentum of their first EP with a second one that packs a mighty punch. This one kicks off with EBY, who this year has been cooking up acid for 40 years and here offers the warped low ends and garage-techno power of 'Goldtooth'. Foxtrot vs Ma Bla then mashes up old school samples with earth-shattering bass on 'Deep Down Inside' and bRz vs Stije is a double-time hard techno stomper with warped synths and twisted bass that is inspired by and named after ISCO, a concept from Einstein's general theory of relativity that makes predictions about the dynamics of black holes.

Electric Indigo - "Registers" (6:13)
Stefan Rein - "Panther" (6:56)
RRoxymore - "Tropicalcore" (6:34)
Boris & Fiedel - "Div'hain" (6:19)
Review: The latest edition of Berghain's own series comes from a number of talented veterans who all have something different to say about house and techno. That, in itself, is something to appreciate these days. Electric Indigo, whose been balling with the likes of Berlin's DJ Hell since the early 00's, launches a cautious, minimalistic techno experimenting through "Registers", followed by Stefan Rein's bleepy techno tool "Panther" - the sort of bomb you'd expect to hear in the pit at about 4am on a Sunday morning. The B-side features Macro's and Don't Be Afraid's RRoxymore, with "Tropicalcore", a comparatively more sparse and kinetic rhythm track that replaces the drones and pads in favour of ritualistic dance elements in the form of drums; Boris & Fiedel's "Div'hain" closes the eighth chapter of the series with a driving, menacing blur of 4/4 drums and gently acidic bass waves. Excellent.

White Lotus Rebellion

Shorthand
Review: Established back in 2010, the Sudden Drop sub label from Fear Of Flying tends to choose it's output wisely with just over ten releases in this period coming from a respected cast of producers like Iron Curtis, Bleak, Roger Gerressen, and Leif. We can add to this list Ethyl & Flori, a long standing production partnership that has always stood for quality, whose 3 track Transcripts 12" shows the pair at their most diverse. "White Lotus Rebellion" is characterised by playful drums and fluttering, bird like sonics atop a Chicago indebted groove whilst "Sidestep" lives up to it's name as the pair veer off into abstract broken UK house territory. B side hogger "Shorthand" is heads down techno at it's finest.

Review: There's no denying the legacy and influence of Bunker on so many labels operating today, and it's great to see The Hague based operation remaining as vital with their current schedule of releases. Having welcomed some newer names into the Bunker/Panzerkreuz axis of gutter techno earlier this like Helena Hauff, Klankman and Ghetto Jam, this latest release finds Bunker take on a more archival approach with a 12" edition of music from Florenza Mavelli's Special Brigade. Feverish Danny Wolfers completists will already be up on this, but Florenza Mavelli's Special Brigade was a limited CDr album of Giallo inspired productions Wolfers issued on his Strange Life label back in 2009 and it's great to taste six of those dramatic cuts on vinyl finally.

Review: The even bigger follow-up "Funkfragment EP" ruled the DMC world charts for several weeks. After this Peter wanted to experiment more with sound and melody and started producing tech house with heavy Detroit influences, which resulted in some releases on X-Trax Sub (Mirage EP) and Tsunami Special Blend. Currently, the young talent has records released through X-trax, Tsunami, and Phonocult and has remixed work from artists such as Ferry Corsten, DJ Misjah and Melvin Reese. A pretty impressive discography for a guy of his years.

Premis II (5:12)
Conclusion (5:21)
Review: If you're in the mood for some industrial-strength dancefloor experiments and lo-fi workouts saturated with noise, this collaboration from old studio buddies Felix Krone and Yu Aseada AKA Ena should hit the spot. It's an altogether more foreboding and paranoid beast than their previous joint excursion, hence the new "F&E" alias. After offering up a decidedly dystopian ambient intro, the duo slowly cranks up the pressure via the industrial dub techno/electro fusion of "Thesis" and the crackling lo-fi techno crustiness of "Premis I". "Premis II" offers a more percussive and rolling take on the same murky blueprint, while "Conclusion" is a suitably hypnotic chunk of dub techno.

Review: The Nullpunkt label is fast approaching its 25th release but first comes this fearsome outing from F&E. The third installment in the Forschung & Entwicklung series comes on grey vinyl and does not mess about with five more cuts all served up as Antal or Rural versions from 2016. The first rides on rusty jungle breaks, the second, 'Conclusion', is an atmospheric piece with a minimal rhythm and warped synth daubs while 'Six Days' is a dark and heavy piece of ambient techno dystopia. 'Outro' is the lightest and brightest piece of synth work on the EP then 'Research' brings back the jungle techno with more serrated synths and loopy, jagged rhythms.

Persignis (feat Claudio PRC) (11:51)
Review: Fabio Caria launches his new label, Hoops, as a means to explore the intersection of house and techno through a minimalist lens. The debut release is a collaboration with Hubble under the moniker Fabble and it's a fine one with three meticulously crafted tracks that manage to perfectly balance compelling rhythms with plenty of synth-based introspection. 'Catharsis' introduces a three-note Rhodes piano sequence with flowing pads and psychedelic synths and 'Donald' offers a steady 4/4 beat with sombre pads and powerful sub-bass. 'Persignis' with Italian legend Claudio PRC is the most dancefloor-driven with processed pianos creating an emotional mood and in all, this EP sets a nice high watermark for the Hoops label.

Review: Jamal Moss is seemingly always releasing music in one shape or form, but it feels like the Chicago artist, DJ and label owner goes through particularly fertile production patches every now and again. Right now, we are definitely in the midst of one such period with Thanks 4 the Tracks U Lost Volume 2 a second welcome salvage operation from the Faces Of Drums project in as many months. The Faces of Drums is of course Moss and Poindexter and this triplet of productions dating from the mid-90s will satisfy anyone in need of some deranged drum tracks for their DJ sets. "The Lost Tracks 6" is a particularly cruddy exercise in rhythmic enlightenment.

Review: There is little to nothing that we know about the enigmatic Facket Strejkar, but what we're hearing is certainly placing the producer firmly onto our radars. Coming through on the fiery Varvet imprint, out of Germany, this is surely the best amalgamation of electro and dubstep that is currently on the scene, and we expect plenty of imitators to come busting through real soon. "Blyga Violer" is a tough, sharp-edged electro killer with undeniably UK-style bass at its core, while "Kolatorsk" launches a shape-shifting techno bullet styled on something utterly sci-fi, and the flip's "Svit & Sprit" provides us with a mean, heavy-weighted bit of industrial techno for the floor. Review: Bristol's bass bin botherer and rhythmically playful producer Facta steps up on the label he co-runs with K-Lone for two more of his superbly dialled in dance floor bombs. This ode to real life clubbing kick off with 'Doves' which pairs tripped out sound effects and tropical jungle motifs with a well swung, chunky house groove that comes backed by some serious bass. The second missive is more airy and expansive. 'MPH' blends house and 2-step to dreamy effect with nice rich synths and knocking kick drums that get you up and looking lively.

Review: Bumping bass house blends right here as Facta links up with Lurka's Fringe White for a wobbly slab of jacking fun that's reminiscent of the early Switch and Jesse Rose material from around 20 years ago. For a little more esoteric mischief then head for either of the two Dorisburg remixes. The main one wriggles and writhes with an ice cold electro spirit while Dorisburg's 'beats remix' proceeds to space things out even more, adding even more intensity and drama. Feeling these type of beats? 'Ditto'.
