Review: Up to this point, the only artists to have surfaced out of the Antimatter label have been F-on and Bule. This is is no way a criticism. In fact, we like it this way, and are secretly hoping that these two minds keep on coming up with this dope material. That's because the Antimatter sound is very much their own; it's a strange and singular style of electronic dance music that doesn't pretend to be a part of any particular sub-genre. Moreover, although the two don't actually collaborate on these tunes, they've successfully managed to conjure a similar sound to one another, an abstract and temperamental shade of house with a vividly loose edge. From F-on's "Take Care Of Yourself" through to Bule's "Photon", we're taken on a journey through mid-tempo beats that have been utterly engulfed in oceans of vast and endless pads circling in mid-air. It almost feels like dub-techno, but it's still one step behind. One place lower in the evolutionary food chain. They're a bunch of head-spinners, and we're sure that we'll see more of these two in the near future.

Review: Parisian sound artist Jonathan Fitoussi resides in Paris. He works on minimalist and contemporary musical forms, with solo works in recent years having explored a fusion of electronic ?and acoustic sounds with melodic textures, colours and emotions. On his latest release titled Music For Xavier Veilhan, it features 'Music for Les Rayons (Sarus) (2016)' which was created for a sculpture by the named artist. It is defined by its blissful and hypnotic melody against a backdrop of glistening ambient drones. On the flip, we have a more cinematic sonic excursion in the form of "Music for Mutant Stage 8 (2017)" created for a film by Veilhan with Marie-Agnees Gillot & Dimitri Chamblas, which will captivate you with its delicate tapestry of chimes.

Review: This is the third and final entry in Nils Frahm's Encores series and it finds the celebrated contemporary piano man layer in more percussive and electronic elements than the previous two instalments. The source music was made as part of the sessions for his last album "All Melody" and honed during live performances. As fans will know, "All Armed" here has been a staple of those live sets for some time and is 12 minutes of plaintive piano playing and wallowing synths that will sink you deep into the German's expressive world.

Review: After 20 years in the lab, Austrian producer and DJ Conny Frischauf releases her debut EP for International Major Label. Made with a deep understanding of soundscapes and pop culture, the musical language of Frischauf breathes a magical and melancholic vibe - that transfers itself into the subconscious of the listener, without any comment. From the lush, shimmering tones of "Lemon Cru" to "Endless Universe" which features a crossover of neoclassical and kosmische aesthetics, complete with her heavenly vocals - Effekt Und Emotion was well worth the wait.

Review: While they might have some catching up to do in terms of competing with the likes of Leipzig greats Kassem Mosse and Mix Mup, the DUR crew are certainly here to stay. Their first three releases have all been revelational, and have finally brought some new artists to the scene, so we've welcomed number 4 in the series with open arms and, importantly, open minds. Beate Furcht and Detlef Diamant both debut with these six 'dance' experiments, a curious collection of rhythmic grooves which never quite unfold into what your typical Saturday night raver would call 'club music'. In our world, that is a good thing, and it leaves plenty of room for these two newcomers to build their names from the ground up. Tracks 1 to 3 are rich in movement, and while they certainly travel across plenty of different genres and moods, all three of them lean towards the more cavernous end of the scale. On the flip, things are just as loose and hazy, with "Track 4" retaining that dubwise outlook amid its off-kilter waves, and "Track 6" providing a scintillating flow of percussive downtempo that feels right in all sorts of ways. What a release!

Review: The seventh in this series of 7" singles is by Bristol and Avon's Kinlaw and Franco Franco and it is a rare mix of sounds with R&B, Italian rap and twisted basslines all defining the tracks. 'Crocs On The Plough' is industrial and experimental in its production - earth-shattering bass, police sirens, and soot-black synths, but background chords bring light as the vocals are delivered with guttural rawness. On the flip, the OSVMVSM version slows things right down to a crawl and the distorted synths and crunchy textures take on even more otherworld character.

Review: Each successive EP on Nikki Pryke AKA Lioness' Envelope Audio imprint has been a multi-artist affair, offering tracks that explore the margins of techno, electro and ambient. The label's latest EP follows this template, with Pryke playing a central role on a selection of tracks that veer towards the more slowly shifting and spacey end of the ambient spectrum. Pryke first joins forces with Johanna Knutsson on the languid, synthesizer-heavy bliss of "Oramics", before collaborating with Tora Vinter on "Delian Archives", a fine tribute to Radiophonic Workshop pioneer Delia Derbyshire rich in icy motifs and modular bleeps and glitches. Arguably best of all though is B-side "There, There, Theremin", a celestial ambient excursion crafted by Pryke and Fjader that wraps deconstructed Theremin sounds and ghostly chords around tactile, easy-going electronics.

Review: Ambient jazzdance megastar Floating Points continues to explore the collaborative and multi-instrumental aspect of his craft, following up his most recent splash collab with Pharoah Sanders here. 'Intimate Immensity' is a recording made in response to Tomaga's 2021 original album of the same name; the UK experimental electronic duo are a low-key pair, but their experimental free jazz works have taken the most miserly heads by storm in recent years. The remix is also a collaboration with one Marta Salogni, the prolific Italian sound engineer whose mixing and mastering credits include Bjork, Planningtorock and Animal Collective, making her one of the industry's most central go-tos. On the B is the ambient piece 'A Call From The Eaves', reminiscent of the lo-fi ambient works of Gigi Masin or Cabaret Du Ciel.

Review: It was about time that someone struck up a partnership between Fennesz and Jim O'Rourke, two respected names in the ambient kingdom and masters of the art form. "I Just Want You To Stay" is crest-fallen, a track dragged forwards by lonesome, dissolving synths that seem to melt and recompose with each new turn, making this an abstract song with plenty of momentum. "Wouldn't Wanna Be Swept Away", on the other hand, is less sculptured and loose around the edges, managing to retain movement and shape through its chirping bundle of bleeps and diluted melodies. You wouldn't expect anything less from these two.

Review: "One of the main aesthetic reasons for making "La Deriva" was the fact that it was an ambient music record produced by two Latin American musicians. This is not innovative, nor is it intended to be a secretive element (actually it's the exact opposite). At what point does a political arbitrariness limits an identity? In a capitalist world that uses a "divide and conquer" modus operandi, this idea of unity is a form of resistance. In the other hand, La Deriva (Spanish for "The Drift"), is an unplanned and spontaneous exploration of abstract concepts and blurry images that came together throughout a dynamical exchange of sound ideas, textures, field recordings between Carlos Ferreira and Almanacs, and then converged together into a set of sound poems which lately became an album." -- CF / WM

Contrast, for example, the retro-soul giddiness of Sylk 130, the electronic polyrhythms and heavy bruk of Oba Funke, and the trippy electronic darkness of his work under the baffling Fhloston Paradigm pseudonym. This debut album under that alias - on the back of a handful of singles a few years back - is predictably magical, mixing spaced-out textures and stargazing synths with off-kilter rhythms, loose jazz beats and Detroit-inspired grooves. Dark and atmospheric, with a touch of the Jeff Mills about it (certainly conceptually, if not aesthetically), The Phoenix makes for mesmerizing listening from start to finish.

Review: Limited to a unique count of 333 copies, Mark Burford, aka Field Lines Cartographer, delivers Portable Reality Generator, topping up his rep as one of the new generation of musicians crafting original sonic worlds in electronic music using primarily modular synths. Like Peter Kropotkin turned ambient noise-punk, Burford's work as Field Lines Cartographer has heard him map the ley lines of an alternate Albion since at least 2016 - with full-length works from the likes of Magnetic Anomalies to The Ferric Landscape evoking outerworldly, just-intoned themes. Here, on his latest record, Burford channels the kosmische vibe of early Tangerine Dream whilst going on to transcend the formulae they laid down, amounting to an implicit exercise in world-building. Avowing the logic of fantasy with one's own reality, Burford remarks of the record: "I've always loved how music creates new worlds - imaginary environments you can live in."
