Review: 20/20 Vision and Crazy P continue their long and fruitful relationship with a fourth volume of carefully curated and super-fresh new cuts as part of this fine ongoing series. Scandi-disco don Ray Man opens up with typically lush cosmic melodies and loose-limed nu-disco beats with more than a hint of funk. Tigerbalm then heads into a tropical oasis with 'Cosmic Union' (feat Joy Tyson) which has Afro rhythms and steamy vocals bringing the heat. Ruf Dug shows his multi-genre chops again with 'Vape Quarter Rhythm' which is part proto-house cut and part dreamy Italo bliss out with rave whistles and hands-in-the-air chords. Ibiza's Tuccillo closes out with one of his signature Balearic gems in 'Siroco', which is as breezy and carefree as cocktails by the sea at sundown.

Review: Late last year the Wolf Music crew launched a dedicated vinyl only series in triumphant fashion with the double dose of Red Rack' Em that was In Love Again. Evidently looking to maintain a high profile for this new endeavour, the second release in the series features the talented duo that is Creative Swing Alliance! If you've shaken a leg at a recent Wolf Music gig you'll no doubt be familiar with "In My Arms" from Pabs Valentine and his fellow Creative Swinger Steven Joyce Ames, a sublime arrangement where percussion rattles away with just a hiss of distortion, complemented by filtered M1 stabs, a beefy bassline and some fierce vocal hooks. Heading up the B Side is Wolf cub Thrillogy; don't be put off by the chilly title, "Arctic" is actually all about the warmth that resonates from those huge synth lines.

Review: Ralph Lawson's position at the helm of the 20:20 Vision label and Leeds' infamous Back To Basics means he's the perfect pick to draw out some classics and give them a fresh airing. The three tracks he's presented here are essentials in anyone's collection, leading in with the arresting deep house swirl of Mood II Swing's "Infinity dub" of "Flame" by Crustation. 51 Days' "Paper Moon" is a more emotionally flamboyant jam, but no less unique and curious in its make up, all cinema strings and bubbling keys with a seriously sensual undercurrent. Terence FM's "Feelin Kinda High" is absolute deep house gold dust, all massive drums and punchy bass, addictive vocal and naught else.

Review: The cultured folks at Ten Lovers Music have put together a best of collection on this new various artists 12" and what a joy it is too. Cumulative Collective pome with the joyous and life-affirming jazz sounds of shuffling house delight 'AskaFara'. Takahiro Fuchigami's 'Strange Acquaintance' floats through the cosmos on jittery melodic details with crisp percussion and warming Rhodes chords. Flip it over and you get Melchior Sultana bringing the sunshine that he is so well known for to 'The Playground', the sumptuous synth-led, brass embellished Latin funk of Fabio Santanna's 'Melo Da Cuica' and The Robinson closing things down with the more zippy and broken beat energy of 'Song 1', featuring some truly virtuosic piano soloing.

The Backpack EP Vol 2 (140 gram vinyl 12")

Review: A second edition of the Various Artists Backpack EP, from French house label D3 Elements pulls together some key producers; Detroit soulful house star Terrence Parker is back once again, and joined by D-Knox, Dan Curtin and TechElectro. Curtin gets the ball rolling with "House Spirits," a summery, feel good house roller with trilling keys and organic chords all making for a jazzy vibe. Then comes a more synthetic and abstract cut, "Stars That Never Die", from TechElectro aka the fearsome American techno duo of Solid Gold Playaz, who also release as Dark Matrix. On the flip side, D-Knox aka Groove Man offers "Summer Beach Time," a cool as you like track with breezy chords, radiant pads and wooden sounding percussion flapping along next to the drums. Then it is down to Terrence Parker to close with the laid back, deep and soothing "So Beautiful," a sweet as you like house jam with magic chords and plenty of heart warming grooves.

Review: Gold Panda's imprint Notown turns to regular contributor Dam Mantle to head up this EP of diverse grooves with a distinctly hand-played flavour. It arrives after the man Dam has been wowing with pal Rich McMaster under the General Ludd name for Mister Saturday Night, Clan Destine Traxx and Autonomous Africa and continues the general vibe of those but with the addition of a many-limbed organic thrum that is most evident underneath the twinkling synths of "Heavy Velvet Affair". Elsewhere Mantle goes it alone, with "Simultaneous Fail" riding a heated funk groove into a dense and vibrant atmosphere with no distinct shape to it, before "The Underlying Issue" burrows deep into a heady bass hook and urgent percussive prowess. Apparently hand stamped by Gold Panda himself too!!!

Review: H45 sees Manchester's Tomson (Freerange) & Eddie Leader (Hudd Traxx) collaborate with Chicago Legend Chez Damier. This project has been in a long time in the making and came about when Chez met Eddie at his House & Techno night 'Content' Manchester. Chez was at the start of his comeback and they were introduced by mutual friend Joshua, a former Prescription and Hudd Traxx Artist. The meeting resulted in Chez becoming good friendswith Tomson & Leader and laying down some vocals in the studio for the Manchester pair. H45 is a new catalogue number for the Hudd Traxx family

Review: The idea behind the second volume of Luke Solomon's Unfinished Business series is simple: to showcase as much rare and previously unreleased material as possible. This sampler - the full compilation stretches to two mixed discs - boasts some seriously good house music. Solomon begins by showcasing an obscure, sparse-but-tough, piano laden cut-up from Chez Damier ("Bootleg With Love"), before delivering some eccentric deep house of his own ("Shake Me"). Flip for the deep boompty shuffle of Timedwellers' overlooked 2002 gem "Barbuda" - all undulating grooves, impassioned vocal samples and acid tweaks - and a previously unheard DBOW remix of Isolee's fluttering deep house classic "Beau Mot Plage" that will wind its' way into your consciousness in no time at all.

Review: It's hard to move for the amount of quality Chez Damier gear available these days, but here he is again on Popcorn linking up with Siler & Dima & Thomas Zander for a crossover project that sees "Speachless" getting four different treatments. On the A side the track comes infused with immaculate blue note Rhodes tones and other atmospheric deep house signifiers, with the original mix taking a leisurely stroll against the peppier club mix. On the flip side Chez turns out his two versions, getting into a chunky Latin roll with the "Play It Again Edit" and softening the edges out for his guitar-infused "Rex Club Paris Mix".

Review: The Uducha label showcases its fifth release with a various artist EP housing cuts from a mixed bag of names. Alex Danilov, Brother G and Yuri Shulgin team up for a triple collab resulting in the track "Untitled", a swerving and fruity mix of flutes, chimes, pads and dusty drums. A5 makes use of some Ray Manzarek keys, sampling the Doors "Riders On The Storm", layering some noisy electronics over the top, while Kurvenschreiber keeps things psychedelic with some Krautrock styled synthesis in "Leitweg". Trueman then debuts on Uducha 5 with a whimsical and cool summer sounding "Odyssey Saga".

Review: Landing on a hand-stamped, blue marble and limited edition 12" are four more deep and dubbed out house tunes from the latest instalment of Mireia's We'll Sea series. Das Komplex kicks off with a serious aqueous rhythm drenched in waves of synth with a pained vocal sample that really makes it stick in your mind. Tecwaa knocks it back even further to a slow motion underwater dub current that gently moves you to a state of bliss. 'Nebula' from Achim Maerz is more upright and upbeat, with bright chords shining through the vast groove caverns as neat chords dance up top. 'Sky Waves' closes out in warm, rough edged lo-fi deep house fashion.

Review: Leeds-born session Hearlucinate makes the leap to wax with a special series of 12"s that correspond to line-ups for parties in London, spearheaded by resident Tristan da Cunha. On this first release, Dawl shores up on the A side and sets the bar very high indeed with the killer bleep techno stylings of "Energy Overdrive" and the tough, punchy electro of "Cyborg". Da Cunha himself follows up on the B side with the equally tough and thumping "Move (Let Me See U)", a seedy and sensual peak timer if we ever heard one. Freakenstein completes the set with a rabble-rousing booty bass beat down that will appeal to those who likes their electro fast and nasty.

Review: Perpetual Rhythms is already well-regarded as a bastion of quality amongst contemporary Chicago house labels, and now they've downright sealed the deal with this mammoth compilation from a stellar cast of local cats. There's too many to all list in detail here, so focusing on the highlights, Dcee leads things in with the tumbling cosmic jazz leanings of "Suavecito," Hakim Murphy teases with a spacious and daring exploration in the liminal zone between ambient and house, and Obsolete Music Technology gets invigorating with the bouncy "High Top Fade." Those tracks alone are enough to deserve your hard earned, but there's reams of other excellent forward-facing Windy City jams to sink your teeth into.

Every track hits with heritage and the right level of drama. Dcook takes the lead with dream Detroitian tones and textures while Diego Perrisson gets his eerie acid wriggle on while Taelue brings a little sentimentality to the blend with a swooning cut that wouldn't have gone amiss in DJ Gregory's armoury years ago. Finally Chicagodeep returns with a timeless Chicago synth workout laced with strong traces of immersion. Let battle commence.

Review: Stefano De Santis kicks off Ten Lovers' new 'Best Of Various' release with 'Murk'; as the name suggests, this is indeed a dark workout from Rome's finest. The tone is set thereout for a thoroughly varied V/A, blending every curious hallmark from jazzdance, G-funk, Chicago house and progressive. The opener is a muted but no less expansive start, establishing the broken, one-beat-eliding, live-drummy mood that is then heard throughout. Batavia Collective's 'Rearview' thematically harks after an unconscious joy, considering what can only be implied, not stated, by way of a gorgeous, what sounds to be largely live, modal synth squeezer on which the slowdown is the real highlight. Future Jazz Ensemble's 'Over The Rainbow' is by far the most challenging, blurring any woulda-been established lines popularly splitting 'live' and 'electronic' with a reverb-drenched generative fill workout, while closer 'Outer Heaven' from Takahiro Fuchigami, hailing from Fukuoka, rounds things off on a note of Hancockian jive.

Review: The Visions Recordigs (formarly known as Visions Inc) label has been defining its own grand of house music since inception in 1999. For this one the label draws on assured artistic talent from all over. Deenamic's 'Fear's manages to be a nice basement party jam but also oozes a sense of jazz-funk cool. Orlando Voorn again joins the dots between Europe and Detroit with the dancing keys and future techno soul of his magnificent 'In Deep Thoughts' and Tryezz builds the pressure on his steamy and late night 'Later Frequencies.' Stephane Attias's 'Fairy Tales' rounds out this limited 12" with more deep and misty eyed grooves for those who like it cosy and cuddly.

Review: After Oli Furness kicked off NDV with his own Need A Friend EP, the label comes back for round two with a whole host of different characters looking to lay down some driving contemporary house. Deep Space Orchestra get stuck into a refined acid bubbler, plush strings and guitar licks melting into the squelchy 303 for a decidedly smooth ride with some choice peaks and troughs. Tim Vita and Oliver Gehrmann head for a more crisp approach that centres on a warm chord refrain and unfussy drums behind it, while James Welsh gets all sleazy with the low end throb of "Leatherman" looking to kick it deep into the night. Furness himself rounds the EP off with the big room rave stylings of "The Hare & The Peacock".

Review: The Resolute Session is a very hand collection of scuffed up deep house that is packed with plenty of style and big feels. Defaultman & Sapurra serve up some warming basement vibes that get you on your toes and ready for more, which then comes from Max Telaer who gets your head amongst the clouds with his swirling, nebulous pads and nicely programmed, skipping kicks. Nicola Brusegan's 'Coconuta' pumps the party with a straight up, humid house cut fleshed out with nice dubby chords and closing out the party is Tunnelvision & Pat Lezizmo's cool and breezy 'It Will Be Over Soon' with lush chords and well deployed vocal samples.

Review: Launched last summer, the 124Black series has been a fine addition to the more established 124Recordings label that promotes a darker, harder sound whilst remaining firmly rooted in the underground. A third release on the series retains the focus on new and upcoming producers with Demuja, The Knight Cats, Tijn, and Jekyll all present. Building on the raw and crisp style of house shown on numerous digi releases, Demuja sets the tone perfectly with the stripped back throbbing delight that is "Everytime", whilst Paris duo The Knight Cats add some '90s flavour with the excellent "We Know That". Tijn arrives on 124Black after impressing with a recent outing on Djebali and "Diss You" is a fine B side burner along with Jekyll's rattling 'Transition Dub'.
