The Neck (2:14)
Enzo's Theme (1:42)
Review: Following the success of their debut album On The Inside, UK hip-hop, soul and r&b collective Gotts Street Park are back with their highly anticipated new EP which features a series of instrumental tracks born from the raw, live chemistry of the band. Made using techniques inspired by Miles Davis's Bitches Brew and with no lyrics, the music draws on psychedelic influences and hip-hop instrumentals so tracks like 'Diego' blend funky grooves and snaking guitar riffs, while 'Ozu' evokes the peaceful, voyeuristic feel of director Yasujir? Ozu's films. The EP ends with 'Enzo's Theme' which is nicely inspired by The Godfather.

Review: Da Buze Bruvaz are a hardcore rap duo from Philadelphia, consisting of Him-LO and Clever One. Known for their outlandish, non-politically correct, and gritty lyrics, they owe much of this influence to their former memberhip of New York posse The LoLifes, founded by Thirstin Howl III. Gunz Knivez & Nunchuckz carries out what the title implies; Clever One's lyrical skills and Giallo Point's grimy production combine to produce a cinematic, action-packed sound, be that via the sinister mover 'Vizable Ghost Gunz' or the hilarious, film-referencing 'Lo'ceanz 11'. A must-have for fans of hardcore hip hop and boom bap.

Review: 90s pop favourite Gabrielle's Find Your Way was released in 1993 and was the debut studio album that established her as one of the UK's standout r&b and soul artists of the era. Now reissued, it features the hit single 'Dreams,' which topped the UK charts. The album blends smooth soul with pop and dance influences while Gabrielle's distinctively husky voice, emotive delivery, and relatable lyrics about love, heartbreak, and self-empowerment continue to resonate widely. Tracks like 'Going Nowhere' and 'I Wish' are further proof of her skills and help make her a major voice in British pop.

Review: Real rap heads will know that in the mid-90s, Memphis was the centre of an intriguing scene. It boasted a ton of great artists who all helped foment a raw, hard-hitting style with direct lyrics that revealed plenty about life on the local streets. Gangsta Blac's Breakin Da Law is a record from that time which gets reissued here and takes you right back to energy of Memphis at that time. With its pounding beats, eerie synths and relentless flows, the tracks capture the gritty realities of street life and rebellion while Gangsta Blac's commanding delivery and vivid storytelling paint a picture of survival and defiance that still resonates while channelling the spirit of the Dirty South and Southern hip-hop's golden era.

Review: To commemorate the 20th anniversary of D'Angelo's iconic album Voodoo, Amerigo Gazaway had crafted a masterful tribute that reinterprets several standout tracks from the original. Utilising live instruments like electric guitar, synth bass, clavinet, organ and Rhodes, Gazaway breathes fresh life into these classic cuts while maintaining the essence of their grooves. The result is a woozy, silky update that melds elements of hip-hop, gospel, neo-soul and r&b, creating a rich tapestry of sound that honors the source material. With fourteen tracks, including both vocal and instrumental versions, this project captures the spirit of Voodoo while infusing it with new energy. A highlight of this release is the bonus track featuring Raphael Saadiq alongside D'Angelo on 'Be Here', which further emphasises the collaborative spirit of the genre. Gazaway's reimagining not only celebrates the timeless quality of Voodoo but also showcases his talent for blending classic sounds with contemporary influences, making this tribute a worthy addition to any music lover's collection.

Review: A collaborative album made and released by Mike Patton and NYC's hip-hop DJ trio the X-Ecutioners, General Patton vs. The X-Ecutioners is a landmark album in the big-smoked turntablists' discog, thanks to its then-newfangled embrace of elements of two nascent genres: free jazz and glitch. In fact, the album is themed around a war between the two vastly different styles, which makes it a worthy, but lesser-known contemporary to many other artists fusing the styles at the time, such as Amon Tobin. However, this album is more in the vein of Wu-Tang than future angst; this reissue via Ipecac serves to rejolt its underground infamy.

Review: Ghetts presents a new album, On Purpose, With Purpose, which follows 2021's epic Conflict Of Interest and continues the ongoing artistic evolution of one of the UK's foremost rappers. Ghetts returns sounding sharper, more unflinchingly honest and boldly confident than ever before, expanding his sonic palette by reaching out beyond rap and incorporating wider genre elements such as soul ('Double Standards'), r&b ('Mine'), gospel ('Hallelujah'), Afrobeat and amapiano ('Gbedu', 'Blessings', 'Tumbi'). With every contemporary stylistic box ticked, Ghetts' purpose is made abundantly clear: to please.

Review: DJ Scientist aka John Raincoatman is the German record collector behind the Outer Edge label. This time he welcomes Ghia for a second outing following the sold out and hugely desirable first one. This one comes in the form of a full length album featuring some previously unissued songs and lots of the group's signature downtempo synth pop sounds. They are soothing, lush and soulful, with delicate female vocals over sweet and innocent 80s keys and drum sounds. Perfectly steamy and sexy for slow dancing or lazy afternoons.

Review: This album is a testament to Ghostface Killah's resilience as a storyteller. The project explores themes of wealth, violence and survival, with Ghostface delivering vivid narratives laced with humor, offbeat details and a raw energy. This reissue released on red and purple vinyl, is filled with guest appearances, that rarely overshadow Ghost's distinctive voice. The production is a mix of hard-hitting beats and soulful samples, offering a backdrop that fits the gritty themes, especially on tracks like 'Tony Sigel AKA Barrell Brothers' and 'We Celebrate'. Despite the occasional sense of rushed execution, the album offers some standout moments. 'Yolanda's House' brings a lighthearted touch to the darker tones, while 'Walk Around' delves deep into PTSD and guilt, showcasing Ghostface's ability to address heavy topics with nuance. One of his finest releases, this album still manages to shine through with Ghost's relentless commitment to his craft.

Madlib is of course a celebrated producer who has worked with some of the best in the game, and Gibbs is a raw street rapper, so it is the differences as much as the similarities between the two that make this such a compelling listen. At times complex and challenging, at others effortless and charming, it's an album stuffed with a myriad of different sounds, styles and references that is hard to categorise but easy to admire.

Review: Freddie Gibbs and Madlib's hard hitting sophomore album Bandana has proven a real hit over the last five months. Now though, many fans get what they have been waiting for; an instrumental version that pairs things back to the essential beats. It makes for a record that covers plenty of grind - from sunny day and feel good instrumentals to much rawer, harder hitting beast that arm with attitude even without the explicit vocal deliveries. Plenty of the soulful samples remain in situ to help colour things and make this such a characterful record.

Tracks like 'Satellites' and 'Don't Cover Me' offer an intimate glimpse into Glacier's journey, while 'Money Shows (feat. Eartheater)' and 'Emotions' explore the complexities of human connection and self-discovery. The album's sonic landscape is as diverse as its themes, with introspective moments like 'Nevasure' and 'Steady As I Am' interwoven with bursts of raw energy in tracks like 'Grands!' and 'Cows Come Home'. 'Ocean Stepping (feat. Sampha)' and 'Dancing In The Rain' showcase Glacier's collaborative spirit, while 'Heaven's Sent' provides a poignant and reflective conclusion to an enthralling debut.

Both records proved him to be a master of hip hop, broken beat and jazz and able to call upon some of the biggest names in those scene from Jill Scott to Erykah Badu. Both of those timeless records, as the title suggest, are steeped in Black music traditions and so is this third one. Here the award winning Glasper (nine Grammy nominations and four wins) works with modern greats such as Gregory Porter, Q Tip, BJ The Chicago Kid, Ty Dolla Sign and many more to cook up another powerful statement for these troubled times.

Review: The accomplished and influential US jazz cat Robert Glasper has been involved with several of the genre's most essential projects over the last 15 or so years. His Black Radio albums are legendary and his work with Dinner Party is ever more celebrated. In My Element is one of his early works and now courtesy of Blue Note it gets its first-ever release on vinyl. It was a 2007 follow-up to his 2005 debut and marked him out as a rising star with bassist Vicente Archer and drummer Damion Reid alongside him and helping him to expand jazz's horizons. It also shows off his mad compositional skills and unique knack for harmony. A true modern classic.

This one is a rather non-traditional holiday release that brings a weight and musical funkiness to a genre and time of year that is often seeped in campy or classic holiday motifs. It is the work of modern jazz heavyweight Robert Glasper and finds him working with a top list of frequent collaborators including PJ Morton, Sevyn Streeter, Cynthia Ervo, Tarriona Tank Ball, Alex Isley, Andra Day and The Baylor Project. It is a real joy to listen to and brings great warmth to the cosy months.

And it is a truly star-studded project that features collaborations with contemporary titans like Megan Thee Stallion as well as Latto, Sexyy Red and Kirk Franklin. This studio debut follows a meteoric rise which was sparked by her infectious hit singles and some dynamic creative partnerships. With standout tracks like 'Yeah Glo!,' 'TGIF' and 'Wanna Be' featuring the aforementioned Stallion already making waves on the Hot 100, Glorious surely cements this artist's place as a hip hop star of 2025.

Review: Chilly Gonzales' Gonzo offers an autobiographical dive into his rich, storied and accomplished career. While previous works showcased his musical depth, Gonzo explores some intriguing spoken-word sections and lyrics which are self-aggrandising and self-indulgent but always with a knowing irony. The opening track features Gonzales referring to himself as "Chilly G" in a way that is playful and songs like 'Surfing the Crowd' blend awkward nerd rap and poetry, while his witty lyrics add weight to the strong instrumental foundation. Packed with bright moments, Gonzales is in fine form here with a new type of work that is as interesting as his many other albums.

Review: With his new album, the lauded Bogota producer Felipe Gordon assembles a collection of tender, ponderous hip-hop instrumentals inspired by 'the melancholy of a period of his life and the emotions that come with it.' While this cryptic insight could relate to a gamut of emotions from heartache to loneliness, the album's 11 tracks, including collaborations with lo-fi beats kingpins Saib and Made In M, among others, channel a timeless nostalgia which is immediately relatable. Fusing the instantly recognisable jazz lollop of many of today's 'beats to study and chill to' school with Tame Impala-esque jangle guitars and reverb clouds, Gordon delivers an anthology which truly does what it says on the tin. Turn Off, Tune In, Drop Out!

They have kept details of this new album under tight guard for a while but what we do know about Cracker Island is that it features a truly all-star lineup of heavyweight guests such as Thundercat, Stevie Nicks, Tame Impala, Bootie Brown, Adeleye Omotayo, Bad Bunny, and Beck. As always the sound is alternative indie and electronic with a playful sense of character.

Review: On The Inside is the debut album from acclaimed Leeds dark jazz and funk trio, Gotts Street Park. A genre-hopping odyssey with silky production and an impressive set of guest collaborators, the album is an intended sonic diary of everything their relationship as a band encompasses, both as collaborators and close friends. Following up their more studio-oriented compendiums 'Volume One' and 'Volume Two', this album is more of a personal invitation into their own practice space, though it also does just as well to channel original Motown influences and provide ample space for featuring artists Rosie Lowe, Pip Millet and ENNY to flourish.

Review: Widely hailed as one of the first hip-hop supergroups and a blueprint for horrorcore, Gravediggaz formed in 1991 around the nexus of Prince Paul's increasingly gothic beats and RZA, Gatekeeper, RNS and Mr. Sime taking aim at the music industry. Taking on satirical and macabre lyrical themes, this is the sound of some of hip-hop's true heavyweights digging their heels in making a record purposefully made to disrupt and disturb. That doesn't dilute how dope the record is - this is Prince Paul on the buttons after all - and even if its impoact in 1994 was more on those in the know rather than the mainstream, in hindsight everybody knows this is a true classic in the history of hip-hop.

Review: As far as reflective storytelling goes, Philmore Greene's new album is as good as it gets, and one that shows off his vibrant hip-hop mastery. The Chicago lyricist weaves deeply personal narratives throughout these joints and layers them with sharp social commentary, as all good hip-hop mic men should. His tunes offer a raw yet polished perspective on life's trials and triumphs backed by rich, soulful production. Greene's intricate wordplay and commanding delivery shine from introspective moments to bold declarations. Importantly, the album balances emotional depth with head-nodding groove and in all, it solidifies Philmore Greene as a compelling voice in hip-hop who is both authentic and artistic in all new ways.

Review: Gunna's album One of Wun is a strong addition to his catalog, solidifying his status as a melodic trap powerhouse. Kicking off with 'Collage,' Gunna delivers an ethereal and catchy vibe that sets a high standard. The title track, 'One Of Wun,' shows his effortless flow over a triumphant beat, while 'Neck On A Yacht' stands out as an intense trap anthem with a menacing melody. Tracks like 'Hakuna Matata' and 'Prada Dem' (featuring Offset) highlight Gunna's versatility and ability to craft bangers, with energetic performances and captivating beats. Even the more experimental 'Freesh' impresses with its futuristic sound. The album's standout moments, such as 'Still Prevail,' really stand out to what else is popular in this scene. Overall, One of Wun continues Gunna's streak of compelling releases, reinforcing his position as a leading figure in the trap scene.

Review: After a busy 2018, Da Buze Bruvaz emcee Him Lo is starting the new year strong with his first official solo project, and a fine one it is too. It shows that he is determined to prove he can stand alone, though he does team up with rising producer Giallo Point, who is revered for working with top dogs like SmooVth, Big Twins, Roc Marciano and more. Giallo crafts a lush yet gritty gangster soundtrack of dusty, hardcore loops that perfectly complements Him Lo's raw delivery. Stepping out from Da Buze Bruvaz without Clever 1, Him Lo showcases his real creative hunger and fine artistic versatility here on an album that is a grimy, unapologetic triumph.

This limited edition gold vinyl double album version of Before The Verdict: Madlib Medicine Show #1 is considered a prelude to this pair's collaborative album O.J. and has a mix of original cuts as well as remixes from Simpson's own solo debut album Ode to the Ghetto. Review: MC Money and Gangsta Gold's collaboration offers a glimpse into the hard-hitting underground sound of Memphis rap, capturing the raw energy and stark realities of the city in the 90s. The tracks feature gritty, no-frills vocals, driven by bass-heavy beats and shadowy synths that mirror the harsh streets of Frayser. The music remains unapologetically rough around the edges, yet there's an undeniable sense of purpose behind each trackian unwavering honesty that demands attention. It's not just about the aggressive delivery or tough subject matter; it's about a snapshot of a time and place that continues to resonate. Each beat pulses with a sense of urgency, while the lyrical content cuts straight to the heart of Memphis' rap scene, without pretense or over-production. There's something undeniably compelling about its rawnessia reminder of the power of minimalism when it's done with conviction.
