Review: Portugal's 3WA is next up on the long running UK label Boka on a special, limited edition 10" vinyl with a unique metallic sticker design. This outing follows big tunes for 3WA on the likes of Crucial Recordings, Foundation Audio and Earth & Stone and serve sup more big bass drops and heavy rhythms. 'Sea Witch' is a cavernous tune with shards of lighting beaming down through it from above as flute leads hypnotise and the drums tumble ever further down below. 'Whale' then stutters on wobbly bass with watery chords up top adding to the sense of space.

Review: Having soared us through the dense black marsh earlier this year, Portuguese deepsmith 3WA takes us through even swampier, intense territories with this Crucial debut. "Viagem" is like stepping into a deep boggy cave where the drips from the stalactites get heavier and the ground swallows you like quicksand. "Encanto" then hauls your keister out of there with insistent hang drum percussion and rolling kicks before blowing you dry with powerful flutes and pipes. Charmed.

Review: Foundation Audio team up two heavy hitters for this ode to heavy sound system music as a way of marking the label's 100th release. This limited edition hand-stamped 10" kicks off with the booming bass and snappy hits of 'Bumba' with its snaking leads and low end wub-wub recalling classic era dubstep. 'Poverty' then pairs some heavily treated vocals with glitchy, glassy sound effects, a rugged and weighty low end and plenty of futuristic and caustic textures. These are dread fuelled bombs designed to be played nice and loud.

Two sides, two very different vibes; 'Goldfinger' is all about that spacious dubby stalk and prowl. Laced with all manner of trippy textures, it's already been a major missile at Innamind's recent bashes with System. Flip for something more of a post UKG flavour; the rattling upbeat 'Silverware'. Brash skippy drums and heaving emotions - this is already a massive tune. Grab it while you can!

Review: The collaborator of choice for James Blake, Airhead has been wisely taking his time to develop on his own terms, sticking largely to his preferred stable at Brainmath to release his unique brand of utterly decayed 21st century beat music. Now though he steps up to R&S with a delicate 2-tracker that sees his burgeoning sound get a touch more full-bodied. "Wait" highlights the man's guitar talents, letting languid notes ring out over a typically deconstructed beat. "South Congress" however echoes Art of Noise and other such elegant experimentalists in its bombastic composition. Highly recommended.

Review: Blimey, if this isn't major meeting of musical Midas minds then we don't know what is. Alter Echo, E3 and Headland all collaborating with legendary dub flautist Diggory Kenrick. "Temple Duel" sets the scene in deep underground chambers, untouched by the sun. Reverb space is our only guide and ritual combat is the only way out as we make our way through subsonic 808 bass foundations, a near-industrial mid-range bass guitar groove, stiff snares, stick-fighting percussion and Diggory's torchlight melody. A truly fluid hypnotic narrative that arcs through the dark, if you're looking for an even foggier route flip for "Temple Dub" where the torch is extinguished and you have nothing but your sonic wits to take you home. Only Diggory knows if you make alive or not...

Someone's written a track about your mum: "Operator" is a sweet, sassy slice of modern jungle with wounding slo-mo kicks decorated with pretty splashes of amens and trimmed with delicious sub bass. "Fatty Batty" meanwhile, which is definitely not written about your mum, is a ridiculously funky contemporary bass jam with thundering kicks, cheeky horns and a groove so chunky you could feed a family of four for a year... And still have leftovers.

Here we find the label boss giving Scrilla the keys to last summer's hummer "Fatty Batty". Adding more melodic layers and cool double-ups on the kicks, Danny's turned in the perfect remix that pays respect to the original while taking it further into pastures unknown. Flip for "Lighter", a straight up dubwise joint with a kick so steady, reliable and dependable it could give you a reference for a mortgage. Serious.

Review: Lion Charge unleash a brand new 10" X series dedicated to the more experimental quarters of 140 sound system music. Launch duties are taken care of by the currently anonymous Marcus Anbessa and he's certainly set the benchmark. "Cultivating Axum" is all about the layered, heavily dubbed drum arrangement that builds and folds with mesmerising effect. Flip for "Unbreakable Cages" where the dizzy factor is taken to more spacious places with savage spoken word ricocheting across spring, metallic textures and iced-out processed chimes. X marks the spot.

Review: It's been a while since Archiver launched his I & I Musik label with the "Pusherman" dub but he's back and it's a serious thing. Gravity weighs off every word Ras Tinny spits. A stern story of greed's vicious pyramid laid over some springy kicks and ebbed textures, it's an alluring attack of both thoughts and senses. Alpha Steppa takes it deeper into the dance with a heavy pressure skank on the flip. Highly recommended.

Review: An essential new Tectonic drops here, the fourth in their 10" plate series, and with barely weeks until their crucial Tectonic plates 2xCD lands, pressures are mounting. Hijak shows that the label's roots are like family, for Hijak is in fact none other than Skream's elder brother of Inta Natty fame - an original junglist crew which also featured Bailey and Grooverider! Mister Fleming is evidently comfy with the break, lovely round drums spooked by the necessarily nightmarish strings, with awesome bass dragged through the dirt. Huge tune. Flip for Armour, an adoptive guise for Roly from Vex'd showing if it were possible, that Bristolians are becoming even darker in their predilections. Increasingly drawn to the chaotic drone spaces and dark corners, "Iron man" hoves into view gradually, like the enormous ocean liner siren which will initially shred your head in a dance situation. The drums and feedback will stove your head in like Wolf Eyes in dub uptown - probably the first doomstep record.

Review: Dean Blunt and Arca are back to reign in 2016 with their Babyfather alias, a moody and spectral style of theirs that digs deep into the science of low hertz. The release comes on Kode-9's mythical Hyberdub label, and it's as fitting as one would think: experimental beat structures and odd sonics blend to form a forward-thinking dance sound. "Meditation" is a stuttering, quasi 4/4 groove powered by a grizzly level of bass, and an artillery of black comedy voices spewing from all angles. It's a true UK hybrid, and it is honestly one of our favourite things to come from the label in a while; check the instrumental for a further dosage of weighty percussion. Recommended.
