Tectonic Sound Part 3
Cat: TECLP 0273. Rel: 18 Jul 25
2562 - "Overcome"
Yushh - "Ghost Of What"
Appleblim - "Ghost Coast"
Flora Yin Wong - "Virga"
Review: New post-dubstep drastics from Tectonic Recordings, whose thwacking broken beat and dark garage stylings serve as expert material for the label's next phase. Tectonic Sound now launches as a six-part, 24-track vinyl series, of which two records have now been released in unison: alongside a first featuring Beatrice M, Cocktail Party Effect and Om Unit, this second one features cyber-bruk artist 2562, keygen system player Yussh, Punch Drunk favourite Appleblim and the perennial but rare orchid, Flora Yin Wong. 'Overcome' through to 'Virga' span the distinctive styles of each, beginning things on a numerological, tricky shuffle, and ending on a tugging ambient FX party.

Speaking In Silence (feat Lee Banton)
Review: Dream Flight Records is back for another take off and journey into deep and tech minimal. Both of these sounds are late-night live jams recorded at Crystal Palace Studios, formerly home to Palace Vinyl, now a welcome part of the Brixton landscape and the evidenly aptly named 4:32AM have previously recorded on their label (Palace Trax) as well as the OOZ label. The A-side, 'Italia,' is a tight, bouncy tribute to classic Italo house brimming with energy and emotional warmth and on the flip is a deeper, more hypnotic groove elevated by a spontaneous vocal performance from rising star Lee Banton. 'Speaking In Silence' is subtle, smeared with synth colour and slow burning, an after-party classic in the making.

Review: Italy's own Luca Accardi returns to UK techno institution Planet Rhythm through its Dubwars offshoot, delivering a tough five-tracker steeped in dubwise processing and percussive momentum. Having appeared on a previous compilation from the series, the producer now takes centre stage with a suite of deeply pressurised club tracks. 'Black Tourmaline' and 'Moonstone' are built around layered synths and unwavering low-end thump, while the B-side opens up into more sprawling territory: 'Monazite' moves with a sense of churn and lift, 'Amethyst' brings a shimmering intensity, and 'Morganite' closes things out with a more spacious, textural push.

Review: Long-time hard techno champion The Advent is back with more of his mind-melting work on Truncate's self-titled label. Title cut 'Passive Aggressive' opens with a loopy mental workout that is underpinned by nice dubby low ends. Truncate remixes and layers in some icy, fizzy pads and pressured drum grooves, then 'Remote Viewing' brings some uneasy peak time anxiousness with its wonky lines and prickly synths. Also included is a bonus by G Flame, which brings a direct and delicious Detroit house vibe that goes deeper.

Review: Ahmet Altinbas has kept a consistent current flowing through his own Observer Station imprint since 2022, keeping scientific watch over various polar deserts and ice sheets, frozen over interplanetary techno outerlands. 'Eclipse' emerges from behind the moon with an equinoctial pulse, 'Sidereal' and 'Eclipse' fronting the energy required to scientifically replicate a celestial event of such a scale, and 'Maniola' and 'Saisei' emerging on the B as bright, toolroom pulsars, just in case the A-game doesn't go to plan. Another brilliant concept EP from the Belgian luminary.

Review: Now posted up in Berlin, UK producer Anil Chawla bka Amotik returns with a new three-tracker and it's only the 16th in his own now long-running racket, also named Amotik. Keeping rooted in restraint and rhythmic hypnosis, he's built his name on nuanced, endurance DJ sets and steady-state self-released 12"s. 'Tirasi', 'Chaurasi' and 'Pachasi' extend that thread, providing deeply textural, loop-driven pieces with subtly shifting momenta and a sensitive succour, also formally represented in the understated three-track form. Berlin's industrious spirit mixes with the UK's heavy, cloud-covered techno sound, proving Amotik hasn't sacrificed the precise affective brunt of the British Isles despite relocating to Germany in 2014.

Review: Less a genre label than a freeform hub, LA's StrataSonic quiver between house, polyrhythmic perc jams, and beatless ambient music, never forcing cohesion where it's not needed. Exemplifying said one-size-fits-no-one approach is their latest from label mainstay Animl, whose debut EP 'Star Walk' gets a massive triplet of remixes from Seth Troxler, Matthew Jonson and Galcher Lustwerk here: truly a debut artist's dream to be remixed by such sage minimal techno servicemen. We've got to love Lustwerk's version of 'Bruv', as the track builds on the original's titular accost, with shakedown breath samples and an organ press turned heart monitor beep sprinkled into the progressing ambient moves on top.

Review: "Keep it trippy..." There sure aren't that many Rhythm Cults out there that we know of, and this Barcelona-based sect is certainly one we'd like to join. Celebrating ten years in operation, the label here brings back a cross-section of artists who've helped sculpt its distinctive sound. The new anniversary edition aquaplanes the murky edges of house, techno, and experimental electronics, spotlighting the minimal yet girthy dance stylistics of Funk D'Void, Aquarius Heaven, Samuel L Session and more. The EP opens with 'Tune Analysis' where delicate sonic elements come together like falling snowflakes. 'Vuh' transitions into percussive sounds and allows them to take centre stage. On the B-side, the percussion evolve into a more structured rhythm and create a meditative, incantatory atmosphere. Whispers Into The Void
Fleeting_637
Review: Another quietly stunning entry from one of Japanese dub techno's most enigmatic and revered producers. Known for his minimalist precision and deep atmospherics, Atobe crafts two tracks that expand his sound even further than before. The title track, 'Whispers Into The Void', opens with soft, floaty chords and gentle house rhythms. The tempo is restrained, the textures delicate, creating a sensation of drifting weightlessly through mist. It's a meditative, lower BPM piece with crisp production and a warmth that draws you in slowly. On the B-side, 'Fleeting_637' steps up the energy without abandoning the mood. With a more pronounced, bubbling bassline and submerged chords, it leans into classic dub techno territory. The track feels aquatic, its sonic elements swirling and shimmering as if recorded deep beneath the surface. Atobe doesn't chase trends, he sculpts sound patiently and with purpose. 'Whispers Into The Void' is another subtle, essential release in his powerful catalogue.

Up first is the blistering electro-techno of 'Leviatron' with its corrugated drum patterns, snappy hits and computer circuitry in meltdown, all making for a dystopian vibe.'I Am Evil' (extended mix) is dark and broody with a mischievous low end prowling beneath the drums and talkbox vocals. Review: Originally released in 1993 and finally being reissued now, this techno gem stands as a bold and exploratory debut that merges the pulse of Detroit techno with the UK's rich multicultural sonic landscape. The UK trio Jamie Bissmire, Lucien Thompson and John O'Connell channeled the spirit of early techno pioneers while weaving in dub, tribal rhythms, trance atmospheres and UK rave culture, creating a distinct, genre-defying sound. Tracks like 'Messenger' and 'Pacekeeper' shows their rhythmic intensity, with rolling basslines and echo-laden percussion that nod to both dub and techno traditions. 'Revelation' floats into ambient techno territory with celestial synths, while 'Earth 6' hints at what Goa trance might have sounded like had it taken cues from Detroit rather than industrial sounds. 'Better Nation' has a mesmerising rework from none other than Carl Craig, lending his Detroit touch to Bandulu's already genre-fluid sound. The album's opener, 'Guidance', blends tribal percussion, progressive structure and a mammoth bassline into something uniquely its own. Though the production bears the unmistakable marks of early 90s UK techno with its raw and experimental sounds, it's precisely this era-specific charm that gives Guidance its enduring appeal.

Review: Pinch's Bristol-based Tectonic stable marks a new chapter with Tectonic Sound, a six-part, 24-track vinyl series, discomancing an unknowable but part steerable future while also leaning on firmly implanted roots. Each 12" pairs longtime affiliates like Peverelist, RSD, Kahn & Neek and Om Unit with a sharp cast of first-timers, among them Flora Yin-Wong, Re:ni, Sicaria, Yushh and Beatrice M. What emerges is a restless sweep through low-end electronics that flirt with dub, techno, soundsystem pressure and textural detail, in a set shaped by the label's lineage but unbound by nostalgia. Most tracks were written specifically with Tectonic in mind, adding a sense of cohesion to a compilation that prizes forward motion and liminal spaces.

It remains an evergreen favourite almost 30 years on, which is why Damon Wild's Synewave is reissuing it here. The A-side is gloppy, dubby techno with impish percussion darting about the mix and drunken hits bring an off-kilter edge. Review: Organic Analogue returns with a rediscovery of Beppu's rare dubbed-out electronica and circuit-bent techno. Andrew Hargreaves is the Manchester-based producer behind this alias which was first making waves back in the late-2000s. Back then it was three limited CDr EPs in 2009, which came with just 50 copies each, that made a stir and still stand up today. As such, the sought-after recordings receive a proper vinyl pressing and have been mastered by Miles Whittaker. Two distinct remixes from Demdike Stare also add further quality and contemporary context to the origins, which blend dub techno and braindance with textured noise. IPOP continues Organic Analogue's tradition of spotlighting overlooked talent having already done so with names like DJ Guy and Jean-Louis Huhta.

The Distance Between Us
Review: Swedien's Adam Beyer returns with eight new tracks, his first full-length collection in over two decades. The sequencing folds in recent collaborators while staying rooted in the clean, functional techno that's long defined his output. 'Taking Back Control' opens with a tightly programmed groove, minimal in arrangement but tuned for high-impact play. 'Alto', co-produced with Layton Giordani, pushes into more melodic territory with airy synth leads offset by a hard-edged rhythm section. 'Explorer' and 'Desolate Lands' - the latter with Chris Avantgarde - maintain a linear structure, with subtle modulations and atmospheric textures. On side C, 'Loca' (with Julian Jeweil) drives the tempo higher but keeps effects restrained, followed by the solo cut 'Boundless', which leans slightly darker in tone. 'Hypnotic', a collaboration with HNTR featuring vocals from Kyozo, edges toward big-room styling without slipping into excess. Closer 'The Distance Between Us' finishes on a more expansive note, with a wide stereo field and loosely arranged elements. It's a measured update rather than a reinvention - consistent, clean, and executed with intent.

'Podgorica' opens with squelching acid lines and breakbeat pressure, recalling the raw intensity of early 2000s bunker sets. 'Flip The Phase' veers off-script entirely, pairing stuttering dub chords and chopped vox with a sudden jungle break that detonates mid-track. 'Digital Diva' rides a looping 80s vocal over a dense, dubby groove-equal parts playful and pummelling. Closing cut 'Molly Pop', a collaboration with German producer Lifka, leans into psy-tinged intensity, fusing peak-time power with a cheeky, rave-brained energy. Fun, fearless, and bristling with attitude, it's a release built for high-pressure moments and DJs unafraid to swerve.

The great Bluetrain opens with 'Still Shifting', which is a typically smooth and sub-aquatic dub techno sound that's deep but dynamic and marbled with deft hi hats. Fletcher's 'Holy Ghost' is a gorgeously suspenseful dub soundscape, then on the flip Rai Scott gets a little more pronounced with his grooves on 'Inside The Mind Of A Nebula,' which is defined by a nagging sense of unease. Anthony Georges Patrice's' See The Sun' is a zoned out 6 am gem for when the sun begins to peak through the curtains.

'Kick It Off' begins with a heavyweight bump, trippy synth motifs and rigid rhythms that make you jerk your body in an 80s Chicago style. Review: Berlin-based Buttechno has reputation for being one of techno's hardest hitters, but this EP of 'X-berg dubs' is as much about the tease as the impact. 'Tech March' opens proceedings, ruthlessly combining the kind of low end thump beloved by Autechre and LFO with snaking, junglist frills, making it dark and brooding but also irresistibly danceable all at the same time. 'Dub 22' gives us his unique take on dub techno, speedier and flightier than the genre's usual template and much more rhythmically embellished too. 'Hypno Dub' is similarly way uptempo but lithe and light, murky stabs poking through the filters, before 'Grey Dungeons' goes full on old skool junglisms, like an early Ram or classic Moving Shadow affair from the early 90s, all voodoo vocals and tense, splintered snares. Dub be good to us.

Take You Back (6:13)
Review: New York house stalwarts Victor Calderone and Mykol team up for a heavyweight double-header on Nervous Records, drawing on decades of club heritage with two cuts that balance toughness with soul. On 'What You Want', the unmistakable Byron Stingily delivers a spoken-word vocal full of presence and tension, riding a thick groove of driving drums and brooding synth stabs. The dub strips things back into a leaner, club-focused roller, layering sharp FX over its pulsing low-end. Flip to 'Take You Back' and the tone shifts-gliding synths and sultry female vocals swirl through the mix, giving the track a hazy, after-hours sensuality. It's a slick contrast to the A-side's weight, showcasing the duo's versatility and deep roots in New York's late-night lineage.

Mescaline
Review: An ever-present name in underground house, Alex Celler is back once again on Baby Ford's cult Trelik label. This is his third and maybe best outing yet with 'Twilight Firedancer' being a long and extended dub tech workout with wobbly bass and off-balance drums topped with glowing chords that bring occasional relief to the pressure of the groove. 'Mescaline' is much more busy with abstract pops and squeaks, synth modulations and an urgent, tightly programmed minimal tech groove that you would expect of this label. It's high-class music for mind and body.

Review: Cosmin TRG is a Romanian producer who crafted some of the underground's most innovative sounds a decade or so ago, before going off to work in other creative worlds. Here, for the first time, he links with countryman DYL for a special EP that is decidedly futuristic. 'Manevre' is Romanian for 'manoeuvres' and comes in three different parts. Each one is fluid minimal sound with deft rhythms, fizzing pads, eerie melodies, sub-aquatic motifs and always absorbing atmospheres. Tammo Hesselink also adds a remix that has more prominent drums, lurching loops and menacing dystopian energy.

Desire: The Carl Craig Story
Cat: PLE 654136. Rel: 18 Jul 25
Review: One of the most important figures in Detroit techno, Craig takes a look back at his storied career with a best of compilation that supports a new, much celebrated documentary. Part of what was described as the 'second wave' of Detroit techno, which encompassed roughly 1988-1992, Carl Craig helped lead the way taking the rhythms and incorporating more themes to the sound helping them come alive to the imaginations of listeners. This soundtrack is helps highlight why Carl's music is so fondly looked upon. Spanning decades of his groundbreaking career, this 2x12" vinyl release brings together some of his most iconic and elusive works that show his vision within the genre of techno was much wider than just a dancefloor. Opening with 'No More Words', a foundational 1991 track, the compilation immediately roots itself in Detroit's rich sonic soil. The seamless fusion of melody and machine that defines Craig's sound is evident throughout. From the lush emotional depths of 'At Les' to the jazzy, broken-beat innovation of Innerzone Orchestra's 'Bug In The Bassbin'. Equally essential are the remixes like Junior Boys' 'Like A Child' and his sublime, long-overlooked remix of Slam's 'Azure'. Under aliases like Psyche/BFC and 69, tracks like 'Galaxy' and 'Desire' reveal the futurism that shaped the early techno movement. The inclusion of rarities like 'The Truth' (as Designer Music) and the ambient 'Meditation 4' are great additions than help show Craig is much more than just a techno producer. With stunning remasters and thoughtful sequencing, Desire honours Craig's legacy while introducing a new generation to his timeless sound.

It would seem that these records have surfaced like lost horror artefacts of some treacherous planetary mining mission gone awry, since we can only find records of issues III and VIII in the series - perhaps the others are locked away in some alien lair somewhere. But the ones so salvaged here have been preserved in pristine clarity, and boy are they delightful, with 'Motor-Pisco' and 'Digital Higher Costs' riding gleeful lead melody-maladies and unisoned, VCO boosted stabs.

That track, 'RSKOUSS' is a body-popping mix of breaks and clattering percussive hits with spooky synths and plunging bass finishing it in style. With the solo cuts, Curtain first explores acid laced and bass-heavy broken beat on 'You Say You Love Me' then smoky futurism with 'Olive Man' and its moody low-end oscillations and bleeping synth tones. Review: Marcel Dettmann brings three decades of DJing nous to Running Back's Mastermix series, curating a 3xLP compilation of long-time secret weapons and prized edits, many afore unreleased. Not to tune into the legacy of a single club as earlier Mastermix volumes have done, Dettmann turns the focus inward, drawing on his personal archive of tailored tweaks and floor-tested reworks. Raised in the former GDR and immersed in Berlin's post-unification underground, his early grounding in post-punk and industrial music still echoes throughout these selections, ranging from Cristian Vogel's 'Untitled' (1995) to fresh flips of Yello, Nitzer Ebb and K-Alexi Shelby. Also included are edits of Experimental Products, Severed Heads and Ian North, plus a closing pass at Conrad Schnitzler's 'Das Tier' that threads everything back to Berlin's anarchic, bank vault-raiding sensibility.

Review: The popular Kalahari Oyster Cult label excels at delivering decidedly psychedelic and mind-altering EPs informed by trippy sub-genres from dance music's past, most notably mid 1990s progressive house, psy-trance and acid-fired European techno. Those inspirations come to the fore on Frankfurt producer Robert Diertz's first missive for the imprint, which follows recent outings on Nous'klaer Audio and Running Back. For proof, check title track 'Stoffel', where exotic EBM-adjacent melodies and ragged TB-303 acid lines wrap around a non-stop groove, and the throbbing, minor-key madness of mind-altering throb job 'Goblin Bell'. Elsewhere, 'Kesstech' sounds like the kind of twisted and hallucinatory fare that once powered Goa's early 90s psy-trance scene, while 'Throne (Ultimo Mix)' is a more expressive nod to formative German trance circa 1993.

Review: It's been fashionable to bang it in the last few years, with plenty of erstwhile house jocks embracing snare rolls, syncopated synth lines and rushy breakdowns to enliven the punters. Straight from the source, it's fair to say 'Access' might have the bulk of them running for cover. Back in 1995, Rotterdam's DJ Misjah stood at the crest of a rave wave, forging a bold new sound that had an ocean of loved-up dancers in raptures for days on end. One of a long run of cuts released on Misjah's own X-Trax label alongside running mate DJ Tim, the pounding rhythms, snarling acid licks, and tension-building bass of 'Access' amount to something of a hard trance template. The track is presented alongside a cherry-picked selection from the label, all of which pump as hard as nails. 'Keep Your Love' is a highlight, with its brooding acid bass steadily building into a fist-pumping frenzy.

Review: This Dutch producer delivers a compelling EP that firmly plants his flag in the fertile borderlands between techno and vintage trance. Nearly a decade into his career with almost 20 releases to his name, he's honed a style that merges clean, powerful production with nostalgic yet futuristic sonic motifs. This EP draws directly from Goa and psytrance, giving them a surgical techno polish that elevates rather than repackages. Opener 'Infinity Corridor' is exactly what it sounds like. A hypnotic and spacey voyage complete with acid squelches orbiting around a fun yet driving low-end. 'Speak' follows with a soundtrack sci-fi sound, evoking the feel of drifting through a synthetic galaxy. Side-B dives deeper into the psychedelic side: 'Chanting With The Forest Elves' has arpeggiated motifs and swirling atmospheres, while 'Pushing A Ball Underwater' closes the EP in hazy, liquid, and meditative way. If you are looking for strongly produced trance in 2025 with a techno groove than check this out.

Review: London-based Timothy J Fairplay has long dwelled in the murkier corners of dance music, his work shaped by EBM, industrial, electro and the long shadow of post-punk. A sometime collaborator with Andrew Weatherall and a fixture of the darker fringes, he returns here with a new four-tracker that leans into slow-motion propulsion and paranoid atmosphere. 'Home Visitor' opens with a creeping unease, its syncopated kick and glassy pads suggesting something between a horror OST and a strobelit basement. 'Melt The Chains' is denser, grubbier i all scorched textures and pummelling snares i while 'Runs Every 15 Minutes' stalks forward like clockwork, driven by squelching synths and faintly psychedelic drum programming. Belgian producer DC Salas closes the set with a remix that lifts the original out of the gloom and into something more fluid and cosmic, adding a taut groove while preserving its hallucinatory core. As with much of Fairplay's catalogue, this isn't club music in the conventional sense i it's nocturnal, suggestive and oddly transportive, like a lost radio transmission from the underworld.

Review: Fletcher heads up the Social Currency label but you may also know him from his superb work with Mosaic boss Steve O'Sullivan. It's no wonder then that he calls up his dub techno buddy for the second outing here. They kick off with 'Flutter' which is a minimal dub masterpiece with light and airy synths, yep, fluttering up top above rooted, rolling drums. Fletcher then goes it alone for 'From A Different Place' which is a little more anxious in its loops but still has gorgeous melodies streaming through the mix. 'This Day Has Been Too' is another fine solo cut that explores insular and inward moods with great deftness.

Review: Rotterdam rottens Planet Rhythm invite the so far geographically enigmatic producer Flits for their second EP on the label and their fifth record overall, continuing the theme of wayward excursions through monochrome cyberscapes as seen on the front cover of both 'On The Edge' and 'First Contact' (also 2025). Piping, sulphurous techno is the order of the moment just as it was with the the other 12" from 2025; we hear rowelled PWMs, designer percussions and subtle bleeps telecommuning in tandem on our favourites 'Winter', 'Properly' and 'Rendez Vous'. Serious, bitty techno from the internationally focused artist.

Robert Hood - "The Throne"
Review: This new joint EP from Robert Hood and his Floorplan project with daughter Lyric showcases two distinct yet complementary visions of techno. Side-A is all about Floorplan's vibrant, gospel-infused house style. 'Eternal Life' bursts out of the gate with a joyful piano-led groove and an infectious energy that commands the dancefloor. The second mix strips things down into a dub-style version, dialing back the melody to let the rhythm section breathe. The track is groovier, more restrained, but still driving. Flip to Side-B and you're in classic Robert Hood territory. 'God Flow' is a streamlined, melodic burner that is direct and tightly wound. It builds with precision, its crisp rhythm and subtle synth work echoing Detroit's minimal legacy. 'The Throne' follows with a nod to Hood's Underground Resistance roots. It's raw and punishing in the best way: stripped-down techno that relies on timing and repetition. Together, the EP is a great look into both projects and their direction.

Review: Peter Ivanyi is Ghost Warrior, and it's an apt name for a producer who operates in the shadows between several drum & bass sub styles. His sophisticated sound designs and impeccable rhythms have taken him to the likes of 31 Records, re:st and The Collection Artaud but here he lands on regular home Well Street. 'Black Box' pairs deft drum programming with jazzy cymbals and blasts of textured bass, and 'REM' is then backlit with a celestial synth glow. A Josi Devil remix brings some low-end hustle and bustle and 'Dream Transmission' is a minimal stepper with an eerie deep space edge and absorbing sense of late-night tension.

Review: On Humanise, Australian-in-London HAAi digs into themes of technology, humanity, and connection, blending electronic soundscapes with deep emotional undercurrents. The standout track, 'Satellite', captures the essence of the album, with glitchy textures and anthemic energy, featuring Jon Hopkins, Obi Franky, ILA, and TRANS VOICES. The song is a celebration of community and the power of human connection in a world increasingly dominated by screens. Following on from 2022's excellent Baby, We're Ascending, the new album sees HAAi revel in collaboration, bringing in voices from Alexis Taylor, KAM-BU, James Massiah, and a pair of choirs. The result is a mix of evocative rhythms and powerful lyrics that reflect a changing world. Every track feels purposeful, building on the album's theme of reclaiming humanity in a digital age.

Review: Eager to contrast his music to "a sea of disposable cookie-cutter music", sonic Chicago singularity Hieroglyphic Being is given a exalting debut on Mathematics with 'The Sound Of Something', providing an extra pharaoh's prayer after his most recent avant-garde self-release, 'An Era Of Spiritual Tenebrae'. A dozen dramas extend over what sound like alt-futuristic house tracks with pyramided spires lopped off the top; the sonic equivalent of sunk relief symbols in sandstone. Increasingly irreverent as it progresses, 'Track 9' and 'Track 7' can be marked out as the weirdo highlights, relishing artifactual mud, stodgy fidelity.

Review: Rodhad brings Inox Traxx into the fold for the 16th WSNWG release - the result of a concentrated week in the studio this past January 2025. The outcome, 'Silvene', is a selene four-tracker indicating the strengths of each producer that nonetheless doesn't dare blur the other's fingerprints. Dense, pressure-driven techno is the backbone here, but the record doesn't stay in one gear: there's a deliberate tension between function and experimentation running through 'Silvene', which is fed through a hard-numbered four-way splitter and results in drastically different outcomes; mission-impossible urgencies on '02', unbreathable rollicks on '04'.

Review: At first we thought the latest Tectonic Sound compilation had been split into two, then four selectors' EPs, but this sixth edition functions to point out not one but two mistakes; there are six. This is just about the thoroughest divvying up of a full-length compilation we've ever come across, with every track on the full dubstep 24-tracker committed in analogue to its own groove. What ho, given the fact that dubstep is a genre demanding plate cutting for bass response par excellence, so the full compilation form does indeed make less sense for audiophiles, who *will* be able to hear the difference. This sixth selection hears the veteran dearests of Tectonic refire the classic dubstep oven, hearing the likes of RSD 'Roll Off' the tops through musicbox twinkles before high-cut wompage, and Distance bringing xenogenous sound design and serious mecha-dub dissent to 'Heresy'.

We don't know who or what Iri Gram is but we do know having listened to this that they make intricately designed dub, minimal, ambient and sound art fusions that sound like nothing else but also conjur up familiar feelings and nostalgia for forgotten memories. All four are couched in dub with wispy melodies and frayed edges, smudged surfaces and poly rhythms that range from slow and bubbly to more urgent and fractured. They all endlessly mutate and leave you lost in a whole new sound world but wanting more.

Hold That Sucker Down (Rave remix)
Review: Charlotte De Witte puts a turbocharged spin on Jerome Isma-Ae's version of 'Hold That Sucker Down', originally released by The O.T. Quartet in 1994. Her remix keeps the trance-laced hook front and centre but strips it back, toughens the low end and steers it headfirst into warehouse territory. The Belgian producer leans into her signature pressure-cooked techno built for high-stakes sets; the euphoric swirl of the first is still there, but this one's leaner, louder, and itching to erupt. While the source material hails from the mid 90s, De Witte doesn't treat it as a relic, instead retooling it as a present-tense weapon. One foot in history, the other firmly planted on the gas.

Review: The fourth release from this Berlin-based Italian DJ sees him crafting a cinematic techno EP wusing elements of Italo house, EBM and synth wave into a robust techno frame. Side A features 'The Future', a bold opener built on a driving rhythm, a booming bassline and synths that flash with late 80s and early 90s drama. 'Stranger' leans deeper into nostalgia, conjuring up the ghost of early techno with its stripped-back structure and smoky atmosphere. Side-B begins with 'Madness', and 'Energy' are robotic, tightly wound tracks that channels a dystopian energy through crisp programming and metallic textures. 'Technology' wraps the EP with a spacious, soundtrack-like mood that echoes through deserted streets. A confident statement from a rising producer to watch.
