Notes: The 2OSC R2 is a dual 1V/octave oscillator module. Another successor of a classic AE module, the 2OSC/d. The 2OSC is a dual oscillator module, digitally based, with a great feature set:

Oscillator 2 , Noise:

This oscillator is focused on square waves; additionally to a pulse width controlled and CV-controllable square wave, it offers also a "synced square wave" (sounds really nasty!) and synced to oscillator 1. A separate suboscillator out is here available too. Additionally, a separate noise output is included, whose sound depends of the frequency setting of oscilaltor 2. The octave range switches are the same like in 2OSC/d. On top of the usual 1V/octave pitch control, the module can be controlled also via IMDI, the internal, patchable MIDI! Oscillators 1 and 2 are separate via different MIDI channels.

Notes: The ENVFOLLOWER/EXT.IN module brings external sound sources in your AE modular; it does this in different aspects:

The module has two mono audio inputs for external sources; one unbalanced for line level signals like audio players, tapes, portable recorders, and a balanced one for directly attaching microphones (dynamic and self powered condenser mics, but not phantom powered ones). This input signal is brought then to AE level.

Now, from the input signal an envelope is derived, giving the volume of the signal as CV which can control what you want, e.g. filter cutoff, pitch or what else is CV controllable within your AE system. The SMOOTH knob controls the shape of the envelope/suppression of the audio signal component.

Finally, the ENVFOLLOWER module provides a gate signal, indicating that the level of the audio input is above a certain level that can be set with the GATE THRES knob.

Notes: The FILTERBANK914 is designed after the famous Moog 914 Fixed Filterbank. It includes 12 bandpass filters with fixed center frequencies and additionally a lowpass- and a highpass filter. Control knobs for all the frequency bands allow individual mixing of the bands. This is especially useful for shaping the sound spectrum similar to acoustic instruments - they get their character by certain frequency peaks, so called "formants".

This module is different to (and not a good choice as) a multiband equalizer. The equalizer can increase/decrease certain bands in the range of e.g. -12...+12dB, with the signal unchanged with all controls in center position. In contrast, the FILTERBANK914 controls are attenuators over the full level, meaning the individual band is completely muted when the knob is turned completely counter-clockwise.

As a special feature, the module has separate outputs for "even" and "odd" bands, meaning that one output only contains the sum of half the bandpasses, the other one the remaining ones. This leads to some type of "pseudo stereo".

Notes: FMOS R2 is a FM oscillator, and the successor of the discontinued FMOS module with a lot of new features!

FMOS R2 is basically a 2-operator FM synthesis sound generator, with the classic parameters MULTIPLIER for the modulating operator and MOD DEPTH for controlling the amount of FMing of the carrier operator.

Beyond this basic functionality, FMOS R2 offers following extra features:

- Additionally to the basic sinewave operator waveform, FMOS R2 has five additional waveform combinations for the carrier/modulator waveform, resulting in a more rich overtone spectrum

- The FEEDBACK control adds feedback the carrier/modulator chain, adding more variety to the sound spectrum

- The modulator can optionally be set to fixed frequency, especially useful for synthesizing metallic, inharmonic sounds

- A sub-oscillator output provides a square wave one octave lower

- The MIX output provides a mix between the FM sound and the sub-oscillator.

- Pitch is either controlled by a 1V/octave CV or IMDI, the "modular MIDI" introduced by tangible waves

- Modulation depth can be modulated by CV

- All parameters can also be controlled via IMDI, with a number of MIDI controllers.

All this with a nice portion of 8-bit charm!

Notes: An Arduino-compatible granular sound player / multi purpose digital sound module.

This module is a development of ginkosynthese.com; Jan-Willem from Ginkosynthese gave Tangible Waves special permission to adapt his module for the AE format.

It's based on the Atmega 328 micro controller, well known as the core of the Arduino Uno, Nano and other boards, and can act as a granular sound player as well as different other functions depending on the firmware. It can be programmed directly by the Arduino IDE via the integrated USB socket on the front side of the module (USB cable is included!)

A lot of different codes are available on the Ginkosynthese website; they are a perfect starting point for your own experiments and exploring how digital sound processing works.

Starting in June 2020, the module contains an additional switch which configures the module for two basic modes: G is for the original Grains mode; M makes the module directly useable for the Mozzi Library, an excellent audio/synth library for Arduino compatible devices.

The VCO R2 supersedes the VCO module which was part of the AE modular Kickstarter campaign in 2017; with the overall development of AE modular, the old one doesn't really meet the current quality level of AE any more. Coreless Direct Drive Motor Achieving Stable Rotation

The direct drive system uses a slow-turning motor to directly drive the platter. This system has various advantages. It offers high performance, such as rotation accuracy and powerful torque, does not require replacement of parts and maintains high reliability over a long period of time. On the other hand, the direct drive system was said to produce a rotation irregularity called cogging. For the SL-1210MK7, a new coreless direct drive motor was developed. This motor employs a coreless stator. The removal of the core (iron core) from the stator eliminated the root cause of cogging. Furthermore, the magnetic force of the rotor magnets was improved to the highest possible level, and the gap between the coreless stator and rotor magnets was optimised, thus achieving high-torque-performance equalling that of the SL-1210MK5. Boasting smooth rotation and powerful torque, this motor reproduces sound accurately and faithfully from the groove on an analogue record.

Diverse New Functions Adapt to Various Playing Styles

Torque / Brake Speed Adjustment

The newest digital motor control technology, accumulated through the development of Blu-ray disc products, is applied to improve adjustment by allowing the torque and brake speed to be adjusted individually in four steps.

The Pitch Control Function

The pitch control function allows fine adjustment of the rotation speed within i8% / i16%. It does this through digital control, from positional detection of the slider to rotational control of the motor, eliminating the unnecessary DA conversion. This greatly improves tracking performance to achieve accurate and stable pitch adjustment.

Reverse Play Function

The reverse play function, which brings forth new possibilities of creative performance, makes its first appearance in the SL-1210 Series. In addition to 33-1/3 rpm and 45 rpm, a rotation speed of 78 rpm is supported.

High Sensitive Tonearm

The tonearm, which has continued to support the leading edge of the DJ scene for many years, inherits the highly reliable static-balance universal S-shape tonearm. Notes: The new PerFourMer is a real analog synthesizer, through its simple control surface and very flexible sound production it is able to offer a near inexhaustible variety of bass, lead, pad and effect sounds. Additionally, with its total of 6 filter inputs, the PerFourMer is also perfectly suited as a complex filter-bank. Even though the PerFourMer is not considered a modular system, it can still be described as a modular or at the very least a semi-modular. The basic concept is reminiscent of classics such as the Oberheim 4 Voice or the Korg Monopoly.

The PerFourMer is a 4 voice synthesizer, consisting of completely independent synthesizers, which can be adjusted and played independently from each other. These 4 synthesizer channels can be linked with each other and be played in 3 different operating modes.

Next to the already mentioned filter inputs, each channel has a single output, which can also be used as an insert for external effect devices, and make it possible to easily integrate the PerFourMer with already established equipment. It is also possible to transmit the unedited VCO signal. Additionally the opportunities of the PerFourMer can be expanded through internal patching between the channels, for example; you can route a VCO through multiple filters and VCAs, or use 2 channels to create 1 voice with 2 ADSR envelopes (1 for VCA and 1 for VCF). Use the PerFourMer as a filter-bank and the slope envelope can be doubled by interconnecting the filter in series. The PerFourMer is controlled via MIDI.
