Review: ***B-STOCK: Record slightly warped***

Age of Rage aka the studio powerhouse pairing that is Dubbyman and Dan Piu is back on Sole Aspect with a third outing. The title of this one, Credo, is from the Latin word for a "firm set of beliefs and principles." It finds the duo serving up deeply soulful spirits and romantic atmospheres with dusty house beats as the vehicle. 'Open to Close' is balmy and gentle, with the dub even more warm for you to sink into. 'Fake Action' brings shuffling grooves and lush cosmic designs and 'Lover' is a smoochy closer that echoes Sade. Lovely stuff as always from this accomplished partnership.

Barce - "Jazztroit" (feat Roger Versey - Melchior Sultana remix) (5:52)
Dan Piu - "Whispers Of Goodbye" (6:15)
Zarenzeit - "We Are All The Same " (4:17)
Review: Deep Inspiration Show Records is back with a second part of its Global Essence Sampler and it is another 12" that offers great nourishment for mind, body and soul. Barce from Spain featuring Roger Versey opens up with some slow but heavy house grovers awash with rugged synth loops. Dan Piu's 'Ocean' is an aquatic and dubby roller for bliss doit vibes, and Zarenzeit taps into dreamy old school Italo house on 'Heard Echoes.' The same three artists appear in the same order on the flip with three other originals which tap into deeper Detroit schools of house, Balearic and electro stylings.

Aromatic Love Potion 23 (6:39)
Hypnophobia (5:34)
Space Bleepin In A Street Moment (5:12)
Transmania (7:43)
Review: Swiss scene stalwart Dan Piu is celebrating 30 years as an active producer. Fittingly, his latest EP - the first in a series of six - dives into his archive of unreleased recordings and delivers a quartet of tracks laid to (digital) tape in the early years of his career. The influence of early Warp Records releases and the wider bleep & bass movement is evident from the start, where 'Aromatic Love Potion 23' offers a perfect fusion of deep sub-bass, bleeping lead lines, Rob Gordon style percussion programming and ghostly chords. 'Hypnophobia' is weighty, warming and acid-smothered shuffle through deep bleep pastures, while 'Space Bleepin In A Street Moment' pays tribute to Leeds label Bassic Records (and specifically releases by Juno and Ability II). Finally, 'Transmania' combines the warmth and beauty of deep house with authentic bleep techno sonics.

Selfish War Machine (6:36)
Made In Japan (6:34)
Dark Side Of Me 1995 (5:07)
Robota (4:49)
Equinox Of Ceres (5:53)
Review: Dan Piu strikes a perfect balance between late-night dance floor darkness and hope-filled light on this stylish EP from Sakskobing. The Switzerland-based studio wizard has dug into his vaults for the material, which was recorded between 1995 and now. The opener 'Selfish War Machine' is a beautiful trip on deep bass and serene synth work that calls to mind the best of Detroit. There is intergalactic broken beat techno warfare on 'Made In Japan' and salacious Moodymann-esque house loops on 'Dark Side Of Me 1995.' His range here is impressive with 'Robota' offering tough electro and 'Equinox Of Ceres' a bliss bout ambient house finale.

Venus Agenda (7:59)
Mother's Love (4:23)
Altarf (4:00)
Review: Black Key recruit the consistently excellent Dan Piu for their nineteenth vinyl release, laying out three tracks of sophisticated deep house. Opener, "Venus Agenda" (which Piu claims is one of his all-time favourites), builds with reverb-soaked claps and the faintest hint of acid in the bass line, before skipping hi hats and lush pads move us in a deeper direction, soon making way for a haunting, yet beautiful lead - this one really is a thing of wonder. "Mother's Love" immediately heads in a different direction, with sublime keys and a subtle, yet highly effective bass line, and a sparsely used vocal sample heightening the mood when it appears. Finally, "Altarf" again takes us to new territory, with the opening, pacey 45 seconds quickly making way for dreamy pads and a perfectly crafted bassline, underpinned by a broken beat kick and expertly programmed hi hats. This package firmly shows why Piu is in such high demand with some of the best labels in the business.

Astral Flight 606 (7:58)
Cosmic Bells (5:38)
Asterion (6:40)
Review: It's ten up for the Terrestrial Funk label and they mark the occasion with one of their best offerings yet: this Astral Flight EP from Dan Pau brings dreamy cosmic ambience to stripped-back analogue house beats. The opener 'Martian Tools' sounds like Omar S after one too many doobies, and 'Astral Flight 606' then layers up more wispy celestial pads and glistening synths over chattery beats. On the B-side, 'Cosmic Bells' rides nice deep kicks and has lithe, firefly-like synth details that are wispy and delicate darting about up top. 'Asterion' closes out this most hypnotic and beautiful of EPs with subtle acid hints.

Halo City (8:26)
Falling Framework (feat Eisentanz & Grant) (5:18)
Akira 2171 (7:18)
Ilipsyon (6:03)
Review: Originally prolific in the late 90s and back with a renewed sense of vigour in the past few years, Dan Piu's classic, widescreen vision of hardware techno captures the verve of the original Detroit blueprint while bringing a fresh, welcome energy to the genre. This drop on Common Dreams brims with the same head-swirling magic, especially on vividly rendered lead track "Halo City". "Falling Framework" has a more mellow veneer, but there's still so much playful detail bringing the track to life. "Akira 2171" has an old-skool sci fi quality balanced out by its linear sense of progression, and "Ilipsyon" takes things deeper into a wistful jack reminiscent of the spookiest Trax output.

QH 1999 (4:01)
Review: The second release on Opia sub-label Euphoric State offers up highlights from the extensive catalogue of Swiss veteran Dan Piu, a producer who has been serving-up quality house and techno since the late 1990s. There's much to admire across the five tracks, from the sleazy, Yorkshire bleep-goes-to-New York heaviness of opener 'Bleepy at 5Am' and the sumptuous, sunrise-ready, early '90s deep house positivity of 'El Viento De La Noche', to the similarly warming and melodic 'Mimic Human Form' and the impeccable, hip-hop influenced downtempo beats of 'QH 1999'. Best of all though is sleazy, sub-heavy deep tech-house number 'Angry Giant Machine', a cut that's near faultless in every way.

Quantum Computing (5:36)
Robots In Rage (4:42)
A Machine Will Never Do X (4:55)
F#UK The World To The Core (7:32)
Review: Swiss producer Dan Piu is a true techno veteran, with an expansive catalogue that reaches back to the early '90s. His return to form in recent years has been a delight, with classic tracks and new productions alike resurfacing for a new generation of heads to fawn over. Following recent drops on Childhood Intelligence, Ovnie and Common Dreams, Piu rocks up to Hizou Deep Rooted Music with some stellar machine musings. "Quantum Computing" is a warm and soulful house groover with rich layers of synth work at its core, while "Robots In Rage" takes a more angular approach with skittering techno rhythms and plenty of analogue synth wriggles. "A Machine Will Never Do X" is pristine electro, and "F#UK The World To The Core" completes the set with a sumptuous ambient techno trip oozing sophistication and vintage atmospheres in equal measure.

Monitor Body Process 101 (5:43)
Flying Dolphins (5:47)
Another Day (feat Roger Versey) (5:14)
Review: Operative since the early 1990s, Dan Piu is one of Switzerland's most storied deep house and futurist techno producers. His regular EPs are rarely less than excellent, and even those that slip under the radar tend to be solid if not spectacular. The good news is that Piu is in prize form on this Spacebased Recordings released five-tracker. Check first sumptuous, Needs (Not Wants)-influenced deep house number 'Times' - a masterclass in mood and melody - before admiring the bleeping, intergalactic excellence of spacey deep house gem 'Dorsey'. He opts for a more energetic, warehouse-ready early 90s house/techno sound on 'Monitor Body Process 101', doffs a cap to stargazing Motor City techno on 'Flying Dolphins', and showcases a spoken word vocal from Roger Versey on the atmospheric, turn-of-the-90s Nu Groove style brilliance of 'Another Day'.

Late Night Beef (7:08)
Ganas De Verte (feat Natalia) (6:31)
Kammgarn (7:14)
Review: Dan Piu is a master of minimal sounds whether leaning more towards house or techno. For this latest one on Birds out of Chile, he opens up with some nice balmy pads and hip-swinging claps under tiny 80s keyboards. It's whimsical and dreamy then 'Late Night Beef' picks up things a little with some more driven drums but plenty of celestial synths and 'Ganas De Verte (feat Natalia)' is another balmy and spaced-out minimal house sound for hi-fidelity systems. 'Kammgarn' shuts down with the most direct sound of the lot and some nice dub undercurrents.

Review: Following up the inaugural release by Braintalk, Zurich-based label Human Sense Technology returns for its second edition here, this time from hometown hero Dan Piu. He rebooted his career after a 16 year hiatus a few years ago and has been more prolific than ever, with releases on Childhood Electronix, Cartulis, and Hizou Deep Rooted Music. The Modern Utopia Thoughts EP is dedicated to his youth and influenced by future visions of creation, featuring early '90s UK techno sounds that are very much in fashion at the moment ('Dysfunctional / 'Libertarian On A Mission') deep subterranean 303 acid journeys Modern (the title track) and classic Chicago house tropes as heard on 'The NATA Liaison'.

Pohl - "Space In The Distance" (5:59)
Review: Ovine build on the momentum of their first EP with another new house offering that is beautifully deep. It features two tracks each from Dan Piu and Pohl, and they all hack back to dreamy Italo, classic Mr Fingers and the more pensive Chicago greats. "Depresismatica" is a real highlight with its meandering basslines and infinite cosmic horizons. "Mello Phone" offers more pixelated melodies and busy beats and "Space In The Distance" has the sort of freaky edges and dusty analog textures house lovers always fall for. Already, then, this is a label that is setting a high standard.

Dan Piu - "3_HP_D" (5:14)
Luis Malon & Seb G - "4_HP_D" (4:43)
Freddy Fresh - "5_HP_D" (3:35)
Review: The brand new Hyperdrive label kicks off with a mix of the old and the new - some tracks made recently, some that date back to the 90s, all of them top quality. Liquid Earth opens up with the spaced-out synths and electronic house sounds of '1_HP_D' then Art Of The State gets a little more tranced out and cosmic on '2_HP_D'. Dan Piu's '3_HP_D' is a tech house exploration with wispy sci-fi leads and a playful rhythm then Luis Malon & Seb G combine for the turbo-charged tech of '4_HP_D.' The legendary Freddy Fresh closes down with a high-speed sound on '5_HP_D.' Says the label, "Hyperdrive is dedicated to preserving the rich history of electronic music," and on this evidence, it will do so expertly.

Jan Kincl, Borut Cvajner & Regis Kattie - "Paint It Black" (5:57)
Dan Piu - "A Beautiful Day" (6:12)
Review: Bielefeld, Germany's Deep Inspiration Records endeavours to present the best of house, slo-mo, disco, soul and chill - in the words of the record label head 'expect the unexpected.' A clutch of most welcome newcomers appear on the aptly-titled latest EP from Deep Inspiration Show Records - it sure feels like a family affair. The arcane and hypnotic minimal house vibe of 'Reversed' by Melchior Sultana with Janelle Pulo rules the A side in fine fashion. On the flip, there's the hazy and blunted jazz bar loops of Jan Kincl, Borut Cvajner & Regis Kattie's 'Paint It Black' (getting that Max Graef/Glenn Astro vibe in effect) and closing it out is Dan Piu with the shimmering Alleviated style vibe of 'A Beautiful Day' awash in FM synth tones.

Atmosphere - "Moondance" (5:23)
Atmosphere - "Delight" (5:59)
Home Brewed - "Deepless" (6:16)
Dan Piu - "Obsession" (6:27)
Review: Here's something to set the pulse racing: a collection of previously unheard deep house cuts from Zurich, rescued off old DAT tapes and presented for our delectation by local hero Robert P. Each of the four tracks was apparently recorded in either 1993 or '94. On the A-side you'll find two quality cuts from Atmosphere: the spacey and squelchy "Moondance", which is heavily influenced by both Italian dream house and Detroit futurism, and the more chaotic (but no less sonically sweet and attractive) "Delight". On the flip, Home Brewed's "Deepless" is a chunky but bouncy slab of hip-swinging U.S garage, while Dan Piu's "Obsession" is the kind of dreamy, melodic and musically expansive deep house cut that Don Carlos used to knock out in his sleep.

Review: People Of Earth hits release number 20 with Part 2 of The Elements series again offering some super deep sounds from Patrice Scott, Allstar MotoMusic aka Dan Piu, Alton Miller & KemeticJust, which is a cut first released on the old SOCO Audio label. Scott's 'Cycles' kicks off with super deep kicks and heady pads swirling up top, 'Not My Home' (feat Roger Versey) then brings some majestic jazz keys and spiritual vocals and Miller's 'Italio Love' is a strident cut with leggy kicks and celestial pads. Review: Aaron Andrew's Chubby label doesn't rush things. Since launching in 2018 and now only just hitting its sixth release though the music sure is worth the wait and is proof that quality will always win over quantity. Leonid's twin brother, Al Smith opens up with the cuddly and cosmic depths of 'Drama Room' before getting more dark and unsettling with his twisted synth modulations on 'Full Of Music', which then becomes a gorgeous downtempo cut with star-gazing pads and splashy hits within the Specter remix. Dan Piu picks up the pace for some delightfully warm deep house dynamics on 'Days Gone' and 'Snows Of Solaris'. Last of all is the more scuffed up, heads down deep house murk of Rai Scott's remix of Dan's intro tune, 'Day's Gone'.
