Jazz From The Heart (5:59)
Take Me Up To Bed (5:44)
Not Gonna Let Ya (8:16)
Into The Night (6:04)
Review: This repress from Digital Tape Recordings shines a nice light on the oft-forgotten microgenre of breakstep, and 24Hr Experience just as nicely show off their penchant for representing the sound with a jazzy big bandy palette. 'Jazz From The Heart' is heartily ripped straight from the DAT, and contains punchy strings, clavichords, and trumpets. 'Take Me Up To Bed' converts the prior track's sultry jazz mood into sexy speed garage, while 'Not Gonna Let Ya' and 'Into The Night' channel full Todd Terry phibes to the Nth degree.

The Beat (5:12)
The Return (5:38)
Review: Dungeon Meat's tasty new sub-label SLABS thrilled with its first outing from Dutchman Borren not long ago and is now back with a second slab of goodness. This one is from London's rising star Azaad and it comes on nice weighty 140g wax. Label heads Brawther and Tristan have already been slamming these joints at clubs and festivals around the world for the last 18 months so they come with a real stamp of approval. 'The Beat' bumps along with nice swinging kicks and steamy vocal inflections and 'The Return' is a gorge-tinged and hardcore house cut with depth and drive in equal measure.

Review: Reissue from Blahh !! as demand grows for this 4 track garage house flavoured ep. Swing in overdrive, from the deeper shuffle of "Closer" to the heavy bump of "I Don't Want U". "Freak Me Out" is a wonderfully frantic workout with all manner of samples and skittish key flex pinging around an uptempo groove, before "Talkin' About" pushes the swing even harder to conjure up a jazzy feeling smattered with sax licks and squelching synth stabs.

The Deep Music Agenda - "Lift Me Up" (6:22)
Review: The label with the greatest catalogue naming convention in the history of recorded music is back with some of its feel-good US house vibes. This various artists' EP opens with Blak'N'Orange's 'I Wanna Feel It', a deep and garage-tinged jam with chopped-up vocals flexing over splashy cymbals. Mellow Man smooths out the edges but keeps the catchy garage energy on the seductive groove cruise 'C'mon Get Down' then The Deep Music Agenda offers two delightful tunes - the well-swung, finger-click-laced New York classic 'I Need Somebody' and the soulful sax sounds of 'Lift Me Up'. Pure dancefloor fire.

Bnag - "Bang Out Of Order" (6:43)
Jack U Late - "Stay" (5:03)
King Wing - "4 Da Hunniez" (6:12)
Will Benson - "Sea Circus" (6:35)
Review: Mechanistic vector lines and cold, hard angles point acute on the latest V/A from Punchline, on which featuring artists don new guises and exchange blows with first-timers. Though our ears aren't trained well enough to be able to tell who is behind each of these smackers, we must say we're special fans of Jack U Late's analogue-jammed 'Stay', whose quickscoped FX and tenderised drums prove a surreal jaunt. King Wing's '4 Da Hunniez' is a comparatively heavy speed garage number garnishing the flip; the track could hardly prepare us for the dactylic 4-step closer 'Sea Circus', whose toothy lasers and julienned beats pack more umami than a packet of burnt crisps.

Happenings (6:23)
Soothing (5:51)
Unclosed (5:25)
Off Switch (5:14)
Review: Neat contemporary UKG taking after the classics. Ba Dum Tish once more welcomes producer Bob G for 15 minutes' worth of well-layered 2-step and 4x4, in the form of 'Happenings'. The buzzsaw on the front cover might echo the influence of Blow's 'Cutter' on the then contemporary sound of UKG in its original 90s heyday; meanwhile, sonically, the likes of 'Happenings' and 'Soothing' bring fruit-driven strings and sweet-attacked rims n' knocks to the table and 'Unclosed' and 'Off Switch' present further experiments in the realms of flat beats and speed garage, the former working in a restless acid line and the latter bringing in a touch of speed's essential laggard swing.

Can You Hear Me Call (3:53)
Next To U (3:59)
Review: Genre-defining garage label Instinct is back with another one of its lip-curling, rip-snorting and floor-destroying EPs, this time from Bullet Tooth. All the old school signifiers you need are present and correct in the opening cut 'Don't Look Back' with its naughty bass, shuffling drum loops and chopped vocals. 'Can You Hear Me Call' is a more crisp and lithe, 2-step leaning jam with a wobbly low end and late night urban menace. Last but not least is the speed-garage-inspired 'Next To U' with its pulsating bass and aching vocal hooks right up top. Brilliant tackle as ever.

Cee Breeze - "The Silent E" (5:40)
Review: As London In Transmission declare themselves - run by two geezers, both frequent ravers on the London underground scene - you should have some idea of what to expect from this record. It's the fourth drop on the label following releases from the likes of Christian AB, and the vibe is trippy, bleepy, ravey strains of old-skool outboard house music with a little of the minimal era's cheekiness etched into its bones. That's especially true of 'SSC (21 Edit)' by MIDI Drifter, while elsewhere you might hear the odd wigged-out ingredient that gels with the contemporary trance-house phenomenon. Either way, this is crafty, chunky gear to get dirty dancefloors greased up good n' proper.

Review: OK, so these are some of the most fun tunes we've heard this week. Just a few days after his last outing on Distant Horizons, Chavinski has been busy again mashing up garage, happy hardcore ad house. 'Get 2 Get Her' has a euphoric pitched up vocal over booming kicks and scraping hits that all make for pure dance floor elation. 'Weight Of The World' then layers up bright melodies, twisted and turbo bass stabs and another fine happy hardcore style vocal. It barrels forwards and brings prop good vibes, bruv.

Review: Midnight EP brings another four heavyweight cuts from the London based Club of Jacks production duo showcasing their varied sound. 'Midnight' opens up with deep, haunting chords and a lush reworked vocal laid over a smoky 2 step beat. 'Let It Ride' brings the 4x4 house vibe, mixing infectious synths, catchy lyrics and a rolling bass groove. On the flip, 'Remember This' digs into the garage house sound, infusing jazzy organ chords and solos with skippy drums and tasty vocal chops. To finish off, 'Smokers Dub'' takes us into a darker, speed garage inspired vibe, with weighty bass and dub reggae flavour.

Review: Conspiracy Dubz aka DJ Progress, Jason Ward and Positive Aura graces Rhythm N Vibe Records with some irresistible garage vibes on his It's A Conspiracy EP. It kicks off with the classic dusty drum swagger and clipped vocal samples of 'I Need You' complete with lovely dry hits. 'The Lesson' is another steamy one with heavier drums and naughty blasts of bass under a dub vocal and some classic organ chord vamps. 'Play Nice Tune' is a more warm and happy garage jam with muted chords darting about beneath playful sax stabs. 'Play Nice Tune' (Ease Up George mix) closes out with smooth garage house shuffles and neat synth phrases.

Review: Plastik People boss Mark Cotterell keeps up the good form he sowed in 2022 with his first EP of 2023. It comes on Rhythm Vibe and features two more of his well-designed and well-swung garage-house groovers. 'Take You For A Ride' has choppy drums and hits with fresh piano stabs and soulful vocals and 'Move To The Groove' then gets a little deeper but with similar ingredients. A Ross Couch mix takes it into more airy and floaty territory while Mike Millrain's mix of 'Take You For A Ride' brings the 90s vibes.

This is a various artists release which brings together core label members Beforethebeatsbreak, Ronaldo and Crazy Bank, who have all served up their own solo EPs before now. It's the latter who kicks off with the tightly coiled bump n grind of 'So Good' before Ronaldo gets your feet moving on 'Get My 319', another dry, clipped garage shuffler with pent up energy to spare. There are good time piano-led vibes to Beforethebeatsbreak's B1 then 'Why You Wanna' from Crazy Bank is defined by its pitched up vocal sound.

Review: This is a superb various artists' collection that get back to the roots of several sounds from dub and reggae to garage and house. All four gems are guaranteed future classics that tick all the right boxes while also offering up something fresh. Da Elusive Ganjaman opens up with 'Da Return' which has acoustic Spanish guitars and slamming beats, Wodda then offers the silky vocal garage house of 'Don't Mind Me' and Main Phase gets naughty with the filthy bass and sirens of 'Childish.' Last of all, Silva Bumpa's 'Body Right' has pitched up r&b vocals to die for over darker low ends. A top EP with something for all.

Review: Diffrent makes a powerful entrance with his debut 'My Sound' EP on Bristol's Time Is Now label, building on the success of his summer hit 'A Little Closer,' which had clubs across Europe buzzing in 2024. Here, he dives into the UK's rich foundations of garage, bass and breaks, delivering a weighty yet finely tuned sound that's unmistakably his own. It's the kind of chuggy, speed-garage flavour that's capturing everyone's craving right now. For a debut, 'My Sound' lands with impressive force as each track brings fresh flair and a distinctive character. Review: A melting pot of UK garage, house and bass, DJ Swagger's latest release on Berlin-based label, 777, is a fascinating exploration in structure and chaos. Opening track, 'Thanks Felix', moves at lightspeed - a thrilling race through a gritty arrangement of blunted kicks, shifting in and out of focus, moving between order and disorder. 'Fingerclut' emerges with an instantly more house-facing feel - a satisfyingly hypnotic groove spirals in a circle motion, featuring a cyclonic gathering of subtle flecks of percussive variation over the course of the track. Offering a spliced, glitched-out take on contemporary bass, 'Final Bout' journeys through moments of airy weightlessness before being thrown back into the growling, driving bass section of the track. The perfect tension builder, 'Full Cycle', is an ingenious tease of a track, skillfully building up to, you guessed it, even more build.

Review: 'Ripgroove' or 'RIP Groove' is inarguably the catalysing classic of speed garage. It's always a breath of fresh air when a relatively unknown act goes down in musical history, as it proves the music world hasn't been entirely subsumed into the industrial fame monster. Tim Deluxe and Omar Adimora were barely out of their teens when they made the beepy, jungle-voice-timestretchy hit, which, we'll have you know, reappropriated the melody of Soft Cell's 'Tainted Love' and turned it into a killer womping bassline. Now, as is much deserved, a slew of banging remixes of Ripgroove comes as part of an anniversary edition repress: it's got a 2-step version from 10 Below, two 'Reimaginations' in dub and breakbeat style, and even a jungle version from Fixate.

Review: Reissue of in demand classic.Dubtraxx was new on the scene back in 2019 when they dropped this EP which has since become something of a mini-classic. It came on their own label Rhythm N Vibe and now this is seriously heavyweight gear gets reissued. 'Soundbwoy Request' is especially dangerous, working plenty of dub, reggae and jungle motifs into a rugged garage structure and sounding utterly ruff in the process. 'Towards '99' is no slouch either, albeit on a slightly housier tip than the raucous A-side. The "2000 Tribute Mix" of 'Next Millenium' meanwhile sneaks out a few of the eerie tones you'd expect to hear around the time that dubstep first started to emerge.

Review: It's a rather remarkable 100 up for the Hot Haus label as EZ jam comes through with four fierce cuts of potent garage and house. The opener has a classic vocal sample reworked in an all new groove framework and sure to do plenty of damage. 'Take It EZ' is a more minimal and stripped out jungle rhythm with super quick, tight drum loops taking you ever higher. 'EZ Come' is another post-jungle affair with a flurry of drums, hurried drums and hits and a sense of urgency that you cannot escape. Last of all, the relentless Mark Hawkins remixes 'Z Luv' into a slamming minimal banger that eventually erupts on old school piano chords.

Footprint opens up with the straight-up shuffler that is 'Light It Up. It's got old school flavours all over it - the piano stabs, the original Chicago house vocal and the melodies. Review: Enrico Dragoni aka Gordon Zola is a contemporary garage pusher, churning out a steady stream of 2-step and speed heaters on an extremely regular basis. As if the nu-garage assembly line couldn't be any better oiled, this new one, 'The Sour Craft', comes as a cheeky top-up to the surplus. It's also an homage to the manner in which old garage artists used to whack functional info stickers onto their while labels in the 1990s. Musically, though: 'Mentalism' is the cream of the crop (it's emulation of the garage sound of old is the most convincing), while 2-step highlights like 'Always The Best' recall the snappy transient tails heard in the production of The Ghost or Horsepower Productions.

'Don't Know It' by Highrise opens up with a distantly 90s vibe, then Sky Joose shows his class on 'On The Shores' with its hard-edged bassline and full-throttle drums. Johnny U-Tah works some re-pitched and time-stretched vocals to perfection on 'Voices In My Head', with further gems from The Thunderkats whose 'Melatron' is a piano-laced bumper and last of all Jay Ward's 'Everything That I Need' brims with vocal lushness. Review: Back in 2022, James Burnham aka Burnski started a White sub-series of his much-hyped Instinct label and the first one sold out as quick as a flash. Now he is finally back with a follow-up that will likely do the same. This limited one-sided 12" slab of sonic filth features just one tune, but what a tune it is. '02' is a house cut with elements of garage percussion, old-school dirty bass, and even some trance-infused chords that chime with what's going on in the dance world right now. Some return horns at the breakdown really send it into overdrive and it's not hard seeing this one blow the roof off many a club this summer.

GO (5:31)
Bassline Track (5:47)
Review: REPRESS ALERT!: James 'Bursnki' Burnham aka Constant Sound label boss and garage head Instinct is showing no signs of running out of ideas despite having put out such a high amount of high-class club weaponry in the last few years. He goes big once more with this latest 12" which subtly features the iconic vocal cries from Moby's 'Go' but repackaged in a shuffling and banging garage groove with dark synths and wonky bass. On the flip is pure grade bassline track, 'Bassline Track.' It'll take you back to the days when this northern take on garage was all the rage, and why not?

Act Like You're Strong (5:47)

Found Me (5:01)
Review: Londoner Jeigo has always had a knack for intricate and melancholic production. His emotive sounds span breaks, garage and dub and gave rise to a superb album Cerulean back in 2022. This new outing on Air Miles is another sophisticated one that shows some different sides. 'Fig' is a dusty and lo-fi mix of knocking, woody broken beat patterns and pitched-up vocal snippets that bring a sense of pain. 'Act Like You're Strong' is heads down, lip-curling UKG with shuffling and weighty drums and naughty bass. '3-5 Working Days' is somewhere in between - both club-ready but also with post-Burial vocals that tug at the heartstrings. There is a blissed-out feel to the optimistic melodic bubbles and angelic vocals of 'Found Me' that means the EP closes in lush fashion.

Review: Described as a release "made by wrong'uns, for wrong'uns", Wrong'uns 001 hears artists JoeJoeMojo, Oward, Rewi De Kooney and Mehlor join forces for some serious bassweight united. Exemplary 2-step, speed garage and bass compiled into a single EP for the modern zeitgeist, and packaged under the visage of a stoned, grilled bucket-hatter, the likes of 'Crackz' and 'Meet With The Devil' stick out like throbbing sub-bled ears, hardcore-continual conches for a next gen eager to prove their mettle.

Come To London EP

Losin Control (5:50)
Come To London (5:42)
Dark Gravity (7:20)
Space Jazzy (5:46)
Review: The Craft Music label is back after a one year break with some fresh new cuts by resident Marco Lazovic. It's an EP inspired by the sound of the English club scene in the nineties and noughties, labels like Good Looking Records and artists such as Mike Millrain. Opener 'Losin Control' sure is a compelling mix of electro and breaks that soars on cosmic lines with euphoric vocals in the distance. 'Come To London' has a distinctly garage feel to it with its crisp broken beats and there is more high energy but melody-rich breakbeat action in 'Dark Gravity' while 'Space Jazzy' is s super sweet and deep jungle cruiser.

Review: The Full Circle label is building up a fine head of steam early on and this third EP is a throwback garage classic. It's a re-release of a cult gem from Danny J Lewis with the steamy vocals of Danielle Gaga. 'Spend the Night' has it all - the hooky and soulful vocal, the dry percussive drums, the infectious swing and the lush chords. As well as the H-Man dub, there are other versions including one from tech house tian Archie Hamilton, a super smooth VIP dub and a Disco Edit that layers in some cosmic arps and leaves the great original vocal intact.

I Can't Help It (5:54)
Review: Burnski's agenda-setting garage label Instinct is back with killer new beats from Mance. 'Atmos101' gets things underway with sparking melodies zipping about the stereo field over chunky drums and with a filthy bassline. There is more of a throwback feel to the dusty drum loops of 'Stone Cold, Baby' complete with great vocal samples and spiralling pads. 'All Night' shows another look again with dry, stripped-back beats and big hits under warped synth stabs and more brain-melting bass. 'I Can't Help It' shuts down with silky pads work and soulful vocals.

The Going Is Rough (5:38)
Beat 93 (5:33)
Review: REPRESS ALERT!: If you're reading this then you will know that Instinct is one of the UK's powerhouse garage labels. Run by Burnski aka James Burnham it deals in serious tackle for rude boys and nasty girls. The drums hit hard, the reversed bassline burn goose old school cool and there gun finger salutes come thick and fast throughout this EP from Mance. 'Checkpoint' opens with the dusty drum shuffles and bulbous bass, then 'The Going Is Rough' is a little more soulful and sweet with its rolling basslines and silky pads. 'Beat 93' closes down with a seriously OG garage sound that takes you back to the mid-90s.
