Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Review: O-Wells and 41ISSA team up for their first joint EP, with three tracks full of big room manoeuvres that clock in somewhere between electro, techno and trance, plus a Sansibar remix of 'Encoder' to complete the package. Review: Clut deliver a specialised clout-glut with a fresh split EP from rising artist Alric Aerial, who here teams up with yet another artist who's so far flown under the label's radar - Electrodynamique. Here the pair deliver four electro-dancefloor tracks primed for every situation: sleazy bar, backlit festival stage, ironic doomsday scenario, you name it. This EP's cascading sixteenths flow like metallic droplets, their acid lines and FM blurps splurging forth with increasing restlessness and impertinence, and decreasing self-control. Particularly squelchy is Aerial's 'Tough Cuts', which moves trigger-happy on the cutoff filter whilst dungeon-bound sine tones splay across the top edges of the track, like ectoplasms left behind after a string of Zeno's paradoxes have been solved. 'We Are The City' by Electrodynamique indulges a final emery note, abrading its curveball electro mix to a grinding, apocalyptic oblivion.

Review: A new collaboration of Philoxenia Records founders Luigi Di Venere and Neu Verboten, Affekt Unit is informed by an aim to "spark new feelings on the dancefloor". The three track Discorgy EP celebrates their musical obsessions - Italo house, Frankfurt EBM-house and trance - with the result proving an electrifying crossover of these classic genres together with surprising new sounds. 'Oct-Opus' boasts a serious electro component, fused with progressive trance, UK bass, techno, transcendental rave and even a climactic outbreak of rave-era breaks. The title track 'Discorgy' draws from Euro dance and EBM, experimenting with a polyrhythmic bass line and bringing the kind of 'stadium house' that The KLF were always aiming for. Closing track 'Dreams Of Wrestlers' is cosmic house at its sweetest and beefiest, spruced here and there with Italo stabs and pianos, drum machine fills and some lovely subtle filtering. Not so much a case of something for everyone than everything from everyone, you might even say.

Review: Shockingly, it's been 30 years since the Age of Love's eponymous debut first started ripping up dancefloors. Made by a pair of veteran Italian producers, the original 1990 version cannily combined the kind of dreamy, new age style melodic themes that were then dominating Italian house, with a bombastic, techno inspired groove that bore all of the hallmarks of the style that would become known as trance. This 30th anniversary reissue omits that original version, instead pairing Jam & Spoon's brilliant, mind-altering 1992 "Mix for Stella" version - a proto-trance classic that has been reissued numerous times since - with Solomun's heady, piano-sporting 2017 tech-house re-make. The latter incorporates many of the track's most familiar elements whilst giving it a new 21st century groove.

Review: It's relatively rare to find a record whose reworks have made a more significant impact on club culture than its original mix, but The Age of Love's eponymous debut single is definitely one of them. This purple vinyl reissue bundles the rework that made the track famous - Jam & Spoon's wondrous, mid-90s 'Watch Out For Stella' mix, which remains one of the most magical trance tracks of all time - with the 1990 original, a Belgian new beat oddity that nevertheless contains all of the key ingredients (plus some extra-dreamy pads and a bizarre rap vocal). We're also treated to a more recent update from heavy techno stars Charlotte De Witte and Enrico Sanguiliano that wraps the tracks trancey lead lines and raw TB-303 acid lines around a stomping, big room-ready beat.

Review: When it first appeared way back in 1990, The Age of Love's "Age of Love" was instrumental in inspiring the early trance movement. Since then, the track has been remixed numerous times, with each new generation of DJs and dancers seemingly falling for its whistling melodies, distinctive vocal samples and throbbing, arpeggio-fuelled groove. The latest to give the track a contemporary update is German tech-house stalwart Solomun. Review: Agents Of Time return to Afterlife with the 'Midnight Drive In Santiago', EP following on from their debut Forest Of Lies in 2018. Though they fit well within the Afterlife oeuvre, the Chilean trio nonetheless channel a singular sound, bringing synthy, Miami-vice-gripped arp builds to a downtempo pace, amounting to a no less than composed but exciting take on the vintage sonic sublime. Most of us haven't been to Santiago to experience what it might be like to night-drive there; but we're more than sure that this EP will still survive the car test and provide a worthy vicarious alternative, with the toothy cascades and chromatic synth swells of 'Midnight Drive' and emergent arps of 'Chain Reaction' making for a compelling second-best.

Review: Amazingblaze returns to home label KNTXT with an exhilarating new release that reflects the increasing but subtle evolution of his style. 'Touch The Sky' contains four standout new ones, following up 2022's 'Venture' EP with a worthy sequel in the vein of hard techno and trance. Something more than mere club-functionality is achieved here, with the dreamy quality of the music of many contemporary Scandinavian artists lent to the otherwise crushing weight of Belgium's schranz and rave tradition. In other words, the likes of 'Kaleidoscope' and 'Thank You, God Always' revolve around big-roomed motifs - supreme buildups, exhilarating highs - whilst also not merely indulging the pure melodicisms of trance. There's more than a hint of antagonistically sublime grit to these tracks, suggesting that trance need not always be smooth, nor techno always gritty; it's possible to tessellate the two.
