Maybe Tomorrow (Mr Sam French Sinatra remix) (7:11)
Review: French producer and remixer Mr Sam teams up with 2 Flying Stones for an unusual trance collector's edition, offering a fresh take on the 1996 melodic classic 'Maybe Tomorrow'. Originally produced by Fred Rister - known for his work on countless David Guetta hits - the titular procrastinators' anthem reflects the boundless joys of trance music at its 90s peak. Limited to just 175 copies, this new repackaging now sports a broadened spine and a premium one-sided vinyl record, which lays out Mr. Sam's French Sinatra mix on a pristine splattered transparent white wax. Also in there are two custom Flying Stones slipmats and a collector's sticker, itemising the talents of the eminent Tiesto, Armin van Buuren and Delerium remixer.

Selador Decade Vol 1
3D & Robert Owens - "Known Love" (7:51)
Olivier Giacomotto & Quivver - "Snailblazer" (6:40)
Dave Seaman & Hernan Cattaneo - "Napkin Knowledge" (7:28)
Argia & Jepe - "Salitre" (7:38)
Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. A varied yet firmly cohesive collaborative release - the perfect way for Selador to kick off their 2023 catalogue.

Review: O-Wells and 41ISSA team up for their first joint EP, with three tracks full of big room manoeuvres that clock in somewhere between electro, techno and trance, plus a Sansibar remix of 'Encoder' to complete the package. 'Suzuki' outrageously throbbing sequencers bring the decadence of electroclash to mind, but the likes of 'Are You Ready' and 'Pulse' are more gradual builders, with a touch of Carl Craig in his 69 mode. The Sansibar mix is a bleepy electro cut blessed with plenty of drama. Nice work all round.

Mercury (Hard dub) (5:18)
Review: Russian techno producer Abdul Raeva returns for 'Age Of Infinity', flaunting the artist's "hyperelastic" wiggly techno style. The eponymous A-sider sounds like gazing into a self-affirming reality tunnel with an unusual level of confidence and glee, while the following 'Alpha Track' does just the same, albeit with ultra-energized "go" samples and robotic synth grunts intstead. The suggestive 'Speed Dance' follows, with amplified bass zaps knocking around the left and rights like fireflies, while the Hard Dub of former Be Told Lies heater 'Mercury' rounds things off with impressive moodiness and largesse.

Review: Woah, we didn't see this coming; Ajunabeats, the UK trance imprint founded in 2000 by Above & Beyond types Jono Grant and Paavo Siljamaki, release a pair of remixes that touch on dubstep and future garage. The label boss's "Sun & Moon" is given some sub bass growl and menace by Distance on the A, while Seiji pops up with a garage-y interpretation on the flip that retains the straight up trance synths and chipmunk vocals!

Review: An electrifying journey through relentless acid and high-energy techno as Acid Asian goes in hard. The title track, 'Deep Soul', sets the pace with a fierce acid trance vibe, pulling listeners into its hypnotic rhythm. 'Space Colors' escalates the energy with epic, pounding euphoric trance, creating a sweeping sense of exhilaration. Side-2 kicks off with 'Ain't Nobody Like Us', a hardcore techno banger that's percussive, catchy and impossible to ignore. Closing with 'Humans', the EP dives into heavy, intense techno, wrapping up with a powerful and gritty finish. From start to finish, a high-octane, genre-blending ride that masterfully mixes acid, trance and techno, creating a standout release for those who like their beats pulsating and energetic.

Electrodynamique - "We Are The City" (5:08)
Electrodynamique - "Night Life" (6:04)
Review: Clut deliver a specialised clout-glut with a fresh split EP from rising artist Alric Aerial, who here teams up with yet another artist who's so far flown under the label's radar - Electrodynamique. Here the pair deliver four electro-dancefloor tracks primed for every situation: sleazy bar, backlit festival stage, ironic doomsday scenario, you name it. This EP's cascading sixteenths flow like metallic droplets, their acid lines and FM blurps splurging forth with increasing restlessness and impertinence, and decreasing self-control. Particularly squelchy is Aerial's 'Tough Cuts', which moves trigger-happy on the cutoff filter whilst dungeon-bound sine tones splay across the top edges of the track, like ectoplasms left behind after a string of Zeno's paradoxes have been solved. 'We Are The City' by Electrodynamique indulges a final emery note, abrading its curveball electro mix to a grinding, apocalyptic oblivion.

Dreams Of Wrestlers (5:44)
Review: A new collaboration of Philoxenia Records founders Luigi Di Venere and Neu Verboten, Affekt Unit is informed by an aim to "spark new feelings on the dancefloor". The three track Discorgy EP celebrates their musical obsessions - Italo house, Frankfurt EBM-house and trance - with the result proving an electrifying crossover of these classic genres together with surprising new sounds. 'Oct-Opus' boasts a serious electro component, fused with progressive trance, UK bass, techno, transcendental rave and even a climactic outbreak of rave-era breaks. The title track 'Discorgy' draws from Euro dance and EBM, experimenting with a polyrhythmic bass line and bringing the kind of 'stadium house' that The KLF were always aiming for. Closing track 'Dreams Of Wrestlers' is cosmic house at its sweetest and beefiest, spruced here and there with Italo stabs and pianos, drum machine fills and some lovely subtle filtering. Not so much a case of something for everyone than everything from everyone, you might even say.

The Age Of Love (Solomun Renaissance remix) (8:13)
The Age Of Love (Jam & Spoon Watch Out For Stella mix) (6:49)
Review: Shockingly, it's been 30 years since the Age of Love's eponymous debut first started ripping up dancefloors. Made by a pair of veteran Italian producers, the original 1990 version cannily combined the kind of dreamy, new age style melodic themes that were then dominating Italian house, with a bombastic, techno inspired groove that bore all of the hallmarks of the style that would become known as trance. This 30th anniversary reissue omits that original version, instead pairing Jam & Spoon's brilliant, mind-altering 1992 "Mix for Stella" version - a proto-trance classic that has been reissued numerous times since - with Solomun's heady, piano-sporting 2017 tech-house re-make. The latter incorporates many of the track's most familiar elements whilst giving it a new 21st century groove.

Review: 'Age of Love' by Age of Love' is something or a rite of passage tune that has converted many people to the thrills of dance music, and often more specifically the euphoric joyous of good trance. For that reason it has endured across the ages but has never been bigger than it is right now, much like trance itself. Here we get the crucial original, as well as a subtly tweaked remix from KNTXT label boss and modern techno queen Charlotte de Witter with her life and musical partner Enrico Sangiuliano, as well as the pounding, dubby, essential Jam & Spoon Watch Out For Stella mix that Sasha & Digweed loved so much.

Review: It's relatively rare to find a record whose reworks have made a more significant impact on club culture than its original mix, but The Age of Love's eponymous debut single is definitely one of them. This purple vinyl reissue bundles the rework that made the track famous - Jam & Spoon's wondrous, mid-90s 'Watch Out For Stella' mix, which remains one of the most magical trance tracks of all time - with the 1990 original, a Belgian new beat oddity that nevertheless contains all of the key ingredients (plus some extra-dreamy pads and a bizarre rap vocal). We're also treated to a more recent update from heavy techno stars Charlotte De Witte and Enrico Sanguiliano that wraps the tracks trancey lead lines and raw TB-303 acid lines around a stomping, big room-ready beat.

The Age Of Love (Jam & Spoon Watch Out For Stella mix) (6:50)
Review: When it first appeared way back in 1990, The Age of Love's "Age of Love" was instrumental in inspiring the early trance movement. Since then, the track has been remixed numerous times, with each new generation of DJs and dancers seemingly falling for its whistling melodies, distinctive vocal samples and throbbing, arpeggio-fuelled groove. The latest to give the track a contemporary update is German tech-house stalwart Solomun. His remix is woozy and hypnotic, wrapping the now-familiar vocal sample, fluttering riffs and dreamy chords around a chunky tech-house groove. On the reverse, you'll find arguably the definitive version of the track - Jam & Spoon's 1992 "Watch Out For Stella Club Mix", a near perfect fusion of pulsating early trance bottom-end, ghostly synths and loved-up intent.

Review: 'The Age Of Love' is a self-titled trance tune and an early example of the sound. Released on R&S, it's world-famous, and stooped in the classic sound of Belgian new beat while extolling the questions - "why don't you cry? why don't you read? why don't you ride?" Now on this reissue - a fantastic new idea - two new remixes appear alongside the original. Jam & Spoon's remix strips things back to a proper minimal countdown (until the kettle boils, that is), while Charlotte De Witte and Enrico Sanguiliano deliver a proper farty trancey new version.

On Side-A, Charlotte de Witte & Enrico Sangiuliano inject their signature techno power into the track, transforming it into a driving, hypnotic beast. Review: Agents Of Time return to Afterlife with the 'Midnight Drive In Santiago', EP following on from their debut Forest Of Lies in 2018. Though they fit well within the Afterlife oeuvre, the Chilean trio nonetheless channel a singular sound, bringing synthy, Miami-vice-gripped arp builds to a downtempo pace, amounting to a no less than composed but exciting take on the vintage sonic sublime. Most of us haven't been to Santiago to experience what it might be like to night-drive there; but we're more than sure that this EP will still survive the car test and provide a worthy vicarious alternative, with the toothy cascades and chromatic synth swells of 'Midnight Drive' and emergent arps of 'Chain Reaction' making for a compelling second-best.

Review: Bristol's Dream Software collective (and label) have long been fans of the mid 1990s work of Alex Silvi, best known for his releases as Alien Signal. So much so, in fact, that they reached out to the Italian producer and asked whether they could put out an EP of some of their favourite back catalogue tracks. That's what they've done here, flitting between the chiming melodies, warped electronics and shuffling beats of 'North Polar Stars', the chugging dream house-in-space flex of 'Brilliant Evening Planets', the stargazing proto-trance (with jazzy solos) of 'Quantum Limit', the intergalactic, acid-flecked dancefloor psychedelia of 'Violent Volcanoes of Lo' and the bleeping lead lines, immersive chords and bustling beats of 'Atomic (Esoteric Mix)'. An expertly curated and beautifully presented retrospective

Souvien Tois (Elektro Trip)
Review: Christian Hornbostel debuts as Alien Signal, an alias acting as an extraterrestrial conduit for close encounters third kind. Four tracks of cosmic trance and melodic techno appear, flaunting the many mysterious melodies and sine-toned timbres Hornbostel would have included had he been in charge of transmitting the Wow! signal. Inspired by a fascination with space exploration, the likes of 'Nebula III' and 'Uranus' are interplanetary rather than interstellar jaunts, but all nail the feeling of teary-eyed wonder at staring down at one's home planet from the observation deck, having succeeded in defending it against some awful death-ray cataclysm.

Review: Felix Benedikt is onto a winner with his Alpha Tracks project, leaning in on the uptempo zeitgeist with smart techy trance gear which has already found favour with labels like Blue Hour, Cheap and his own Morbid. Now he arrives on underground trance label UTE.REC with four blasts of hi-tech trip-out gear, keeping the pace right up there without resorting to heavy-handed production methods. There's a particularly light touch to 'Starbeams', which juggles plenty of zippy rhythmic touches while keeping a melancholic mood through a lingering synth line. If you're interested in where fast music gets deep, look no further.

Touch The Sky (5:38)

Thank You, God Always (5:45)
Habits (6:20)
Review: Amazingblaze returns to home label KNTXT with an exhilarating new release that reflects the increasing but subtle evolution of his style. 'Touch The Sky' contains four standout new ones, following up 2022's 'Venture' EP with a worthy sequel in the vein of hard techno and trance. Something more than mere club-functionality is achieved here, with the dreamy quality of the music of many contemporary Scandinavian artists lent to the otherwise crushing weight of Belgium's schranz and rave tradition. In other words, the likes of 'Kaleidoscope' and 'Thank You, God Always' revolve around big-roomed motifs - supreme buildups, exhilarating highs - whilst also not merely indulging the pure melodicisms of trance. There's more than a hint of antagonistically sublime grit to these tracks, suggesting that trance need not always be smooth, nor techno always gritty; it's possible to tessellate the two.

Review: 'Immersion' is a selection of prog-trance workouts. "The pace of the track is perfect; the chunky percussion ripe for the floor and the melodies have a 'soar-factor' of 10! Across all the mixes, the quality doesn't dip for a single second...This is a breath of the fresh stuff!" - DJ Mag 5/5
