Puolla: Volume 2
RDH / N6 / XDLS
Puolla: Volume 2 (heavyweight vinyl 12")
Cat: NOTTA 006. Rel: 16 Jun 25
RDH - "Signal Flow" (7:23)
N6 - "Becozich" (5:19)
XDLS - "Valuu" (6:55)
Review: Cyclic and Random set a high early standard for the eying Nottingham label, but last time out it was the trio of RDH, N6 and XDLS who stepped up for one track each. They are back once again with more tasteful techno treats. 'Signal Flow' from RDH is a Maurizio-style deep, smoky, grainy dub techno excursion into the unknown, then N6 pairs things even further back on 'Becozich', which moves to and fro like a warm current in the deep ocean and carrie with it various bits of sonic plankton. There is no concession to urgency on XDLS's 'Valuu' either. It's another fathom-deep, super roomy dub slow burner that is all about letting your mind do the work.

Cat: RBSELECT 002. Rel: 27 May 25
Raccoon Saloon (5:00)
Got D' Funk (5:35)
Freestyle Groove (5:13)
Destination (5:30)
Review: For those of us who find solace in music, refuge often lies in its intricate corners. Reflex Blue returns with the second release on his personal imprint which will appeal to such people and offers his unique take on wonky house music. His The Twisted Maze EP features raccoon-inspired grooves and bleepy after-hours moments that offer an intimate look into Blue's creative mind. There are lithe tech pumpers like the opener, trippy workouts like 'Got D' Funk', deep and driving throwbacks like 'Freestyle Groove"' and 'Destination' shuts down with more futuristic tech excellence.

Permean (6:04)
Permean (Sterac Remodel) (6:14)
Permean (Head High Power Tool mix) (5:17)
Permean (Shed Forceful Pressure mix) (5:08)
Review: Berlin's Regent returns to Mutual Rytm with a precision-crafted techno anthem backed by a trio of heavyweight remixes. 'Permean' is the kind of track built for peak-time warehouse deploymentifierce in its groove yet unusually emotional, merging surgical low-end with spiralling pads that lend it a timeless and melancholic charge. Dutch veteran Sterac pares things back with a hypnotic, tunnelling reshape that nods to classic 90s minimalism. Head High, Rene Pawlowitz's house-adjacent alias, flips it into a thudding, big-room roller with buzzing synths and tough drums primed for festival sets. Finally, Shed delivers the darkest mix of the lotihis 'Forceful Pressure' take ratchets up the intensity with distorted kicks, jagged loops and glitched-out percussion. It's a masterclass in restraint and tension, channelling the relentless energy of proper machine music. For a four-tracker, this covers a serious spectrum of club pressureifrom introspective to incendiaryiwith Regent's original anchoring the release as something both forceful and strangely beautiful.

Reshio - "Electronic Mind" (6:16)
Toke - "System 32" (5:39)
DJ Astrobee - "Elvis The Gator" (6:08)
Levan Grdzelidze - "84 Slaves" (5:25)
Review: Glispy Records makes a strong vinyl debut with a four-track showcase of Georgia's deepening electronic talent pool. Tbilisi producer Reshio opens with 'Electronic Mind', a high-octane blend of punchy electro and precise sequencing, setting the tone with clinical flair. Toke follows with 'System 32', a rolling groove machine laced with dubby atmospheres and smart modulationiweighty but agile. On the flip, DJ Astrobee injects some swagger into proceedings with the rugged, percussive funk of 'Elvis The Gator', full of low-end heft and filtered bite. Label co-founder Levan Grdzelidze rounds off with '84 Slave', an acidic slow-burner that builds intensity through tightly-wound layers. A confident and well-curated start to the Glispy vinyl era.

Boccaccio Life: 1987-1993 Part 3/4 (translucent blue vinyl 12")
Cat: MM 1833. Rel: 12 Jun 25
Revelation - "First Power" (3:39)
Egotrip - "Dreamworld" (World Of Dreams mix) (7:25)
33 1/3 Queen - "Searchin'" (5:43)
Bobby Konders - "Let There Be House" (5:14)
Review: Boccaccio was one of Europe's most influential clubs back in the late 80s and early 90s. Based in rural Destelbergen, it was a place where new beat, acid, techno and house all collided, and Boccaccio Life 1987-1993 is a deep dive into the electrifying soundscapes of the time. It comes on Music Man Records and is a 40-track compilation that reclaims Boccaccio's legacy beyond the overly reductive new beat tag. Resident Olivier Pieters and club regular Stefaan Vandenberghe are behind it, and have split the full selection into four vinyl parts. Bobby Konders's 'Let There Be House' is the killer here, but all four cuts are deliciously dark and heads down club tackle from a golden era.

Critical Breakdown (DJ Swisherman remix) (4:52)
Ride This D (5:22)
Say No Go (5:07)
Ride This D (Mark Broom remix) (4:11)
Review: Active since 2020, Gene Richards Jr has emblazoned the Tel Aviv techno trail in his own brand of thermobaric techno, suitable indeed for a label going by the name of Frenzy Music, through which he now releases his new 'Say No Go' EP. They themselves have offered a rather vulgarised assessment, quipping that the track 'Ride This D' is "designed to detonate", but 'FRK' and 'Say No Go' are well-groomed, despite the hard-driving libido conveyed. The remixes add collateral damage, with Berlin's DJ Swisherman and UK north star Mark Broom joining forces to turn to skirmish to slaughter with versions of 'Breakdown' and 'Ride This D', making up a further fiery two-side fougasse.

Meta Music vs Rogue EP
Cat: FWMSR 003. Rel: 12 Jun 25
Monotone (feat Sequoyah) (5:56)
New Plan (4:37)
YIA (4:22)
Rogue (5:28)
Maze (4:33)
Deep Dirt (4:54)
Review: This new one from Stefan Ringer on his FWM Entertainment combines two distinct releases in one: 3 tracks from his 2021 Meta Music EP and his darker alias Black Sued's 'Rogue' EP. It's a yin-yang journey of sound that shows his range and quality. 'Monotone' pairs signature deep chords and soulful vocals and distorted bass with minimal drums, while 'New Plan' is a driving, rhythmic workout of persistence and groove. 'YIA' offers meditative chords and affirmations set against a thunderstorm backdrop and the flip, the title cut explores shadowy jazz textures with a mysterious groove, 'Maze' marches forward with urgency and layered rhythm, while 'Deep Dirt' closes with gritty, broken-machine chaos. Together, these EPs make for a powerful emotional and sonic contrast.

Mistress (4:51)
Serotonin (5:11)
Takeshita (5:20)
Slipstream (5:53)
Review: Italian producer Rosati delivers a tightly focused five-tracker that pulls late 90s techno grit through a contemporary lens-rough, rolling, and full of analogue attitude. 'Mistress' kicks things off with syncopated drums and clipped synth jabs, its sharp high-end cutting clean through the mix. 'Serotonin' follows with classic 909 hats and a low-slung, heads-down groove-stripped but euphoric, built for full-throttle floors. On the flip, 'Takeshita' shifts into darker territory, layering metallic textures and pulsing percussion into a dense, hypnotic workout. The title track 'Slipstream' adds a warmer, more melodic edge, its looping synths and vintage feel giving the record a late-set lift without dropping the pace. Digital bonus cut 'Rock The Beat' leans into ghetto-tinged stomper mode-slapping drums, warped vocal snippets, and disorienting stereo play. Functional, raw, and subtly inventive, this is DJ gear with just the right amount of personality.

Power Hungry (4:00)
Purifier (5:34)
Review: US techno standout Selective Response, hardened in the depths of the Los Angeles underground, is admired for his driving, no-nonsense sound. To that end, he delivers a fierce collection of tracks here for Backspin that echo the Hardgroove energy of the early 2000s. With sharp percussion, rolling basslines and relentless momentum, this is rhythmic techno that bridges the gap between foundational legends and new-school innovators. 'Hells Bells' is a big wall of dense, rhythmic energy, 'Inner Heaven' lights up with squealing, glassy melodies that bring euphoria and 'Power Hungry' gets down and dirty. 'Purifier' is a zoned-out closer with a hallucinogenic back-lit glow.

Phunk 2025
Cat: MTM 009. Rel: 30 May 25
Phunk 2025 (7:54)
Astrophunk (7:44)
Review: It's the return of 'Phunk'! Nearly twenty years after its original release on her own Intacto Records, Shinedoe brings back the track under her Innersphere alias, this time remastering, revitalising, and reissuing it on her own label, MTM (Music That Moves). Shinedoe has done a lot since, having gone mostly independent after an electrocuting Bpitch Control release in 2013. Yet this throwback dropped earlier in 2005 and came bolstered by rustproof remixes from Steve Angello, Ricardo Villalobos, and Mark Broom; 'Phunk' quickly gained cult status for its fluttery, stimulant stab lead, reminiscent of janky direct current. The 2025 edition retains its infectious, hard-edged drive but lands with even greater clarity and punch, a hypnotic, groove-led recut subliminally sculpted for maximal ear-brain-body hijacking.

Sicion & Kuss - "Ego Death" (5:12)
Kuss - "The Ride" (4:40)
Sicion - "Breaking Point" (5:35)
Review: Relative newcomers Sicion and Kuss combine their skills on this new outing for the Molekul label with two collaborative cuts and one solo outing each. Their opener, 'Dissolve To Evolve' has a dark tribal energy to it and a sense of cinematic tension from the haunting pads and echoing effects, then they double down on the vibe with the equally muscular and chunky 'Ego Death.' Kuss's 'The Ride' is a pent-up and funky bumper with smudged vocals and psychedelic synths, then Sicion's 'Breaking Point' shuts down with all the menace of a late-night runaway train.

LCC Rotation (4:09)
Review: German electronic nerd and tactile techno master Skee Mask returns to Ilian Tape, the label run by the Munich-based Zenker Brothers, with a fresh batch of his club-ready throbbers. 'TR Nautila' rides on uneven drum breaks with claps loud in there mix, until they aren't, and a stumbling bassline that underpins a morph into jungle-adjacent madness. 'Panic Button' has springy sounds and sludgy low ends, precision-tooled drums and a celestial backlight that pushes and pulls you emotionally. 'MD25' has an industrial clang and clatter that evokes being lost in a strobe-lit warehouse and 'LCC Rotation' is a freewheeling percussive gem with moody pads for all-out assault in the club.

Review: Solitary Dancer reunites with adidas and Yohji Yamamoto's forward-thinking Y-3 imprint for this Fall/Winter 2025 collection. It continues to boldly explore the dualities of light vs. dark, analogue vs. digital and real vs. surreal. This 12" formed the evocative runway score that debuted at the Pavillon Cambon in Paris this past January and merges cutting-edge sound design with the tension found between harmony and its opposites. It's alive with flickering neon lights, ghostly pads and wordless vocals that drift in and out to leave you questioning whether they exist at all.

Meltdown (6:28)
Lady Science (Tek mix) (5:52)
Review: REPRESS ALERT!: As Soul Capsule, Baby Ford and Thomas Melchior made some of minimal techno's most accomplished records. It has been many years since they stopped turning out new material - sadly - but their archive tracks are still in hot demand and undeniably relevant. While 1999's 'Lady Science' might be their most famous offering, this EP from 2001 on Aspect Music is no less vital and it will currently cost you well over L250 on second-hand markets. It is Ford's Trelik label who reissues it here in all its glory: the entirety of the a-side is taken up with 'Law Of Grace,' a delightfully deep and breezy minimal dub house roller with pensive chords draped over the frictionless drums. 'Meltdown' has a more experimental feel with brushed metal drums beneath a wordless vocal musing. The cult 'Lady Science' (Tek Mix) is also inched with the whole package being remastered by D&M to make this one utterly essential.

Review: French Mahres sublabel Chandelle welcome two crazed newcomers to their darksynth techno fore, Stigma and Accessible Limits, both of whom are new to the game and yet make a precisely torturous, grotesque techno smash here. Thumbscrews tighten and stretching racks widen, as exquisite vanitas cover art tots up the second release in a series, which sees a differently coloured inner label depict an obscene objet d'enfer. Stigma insists we 'Take This Gun' on the A-side, hatching a devilish plan to city-map and computerise the underworld, while Accessible Limits somehow manages to chill the everlasting flames found thereunder with 'Dave Smith Va Estar Aqui' and 'Sant Roc Es Analogic', two tube-tastic flareups with a moodier feel compared to the A.

Featuring four original tracks and a signature remix by dub-techno icon VRIL, these sounds are less about cooking up direct dancefloor tools, more about immersive storytelling. The EP channels dub textures and deep sound design that compresses the emotional depth of an LP into a tight, cohesive selection. With mastering by the legendary Stefan Betke aka Pole, it's a top draw package with vision and substance aplenty.

Review: REPRESS ALERT!: It's reissue time for one of the most in demand records from the Trelik catalogue, featuring Baby Ford and Thomas Melchior under their Sunpeople alias. The flip side's opening track 'Check Your Buddah' is probably the best known of the four tracks here, with its spacious echoes, mantra-like voices and heads down beats, but there's plenty to be said for the other three. 'Lovers Eyes' is an equally dubby techno affair, but pinned down by sturdy, infectious beats, 'Sungods Wedding' is blessed with churning, warm bass action and just a smidge of cowbell and 'Make It Right' is properly hypnotic 3am gear that's a dream to mix and draws in the listener with its imperceptible builds and three note bleep magic. Review: Having previously advised us to Get Flutey and indeed sample her Brake Fluid - two particularly memorable track titles - the irony of this new release title from Aussie-in-London Surusinghe is not lost on us. It's also apt; it's hard to place a name on such an exciting fusion of styles. Technoid in nature but electro, bass and house in its soul and warmth, cuts like the unrelenting bash of 'FTRW!' and the sultry alure of 'Kinda Like That' deft genre containment and operate much more as a feeling and a groove than a boundary. And that is very much ok!

Review: Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but currently based in Amsterdam, Augusto Taito debuts on Renegade Methodz with a fierce techno EP that cements his rising status. Taito brings the intensity and rawness here with pounding rhythms that build on solid previous releases on Mord and Tar Hallow. Opener 'Rampage' is all tom-laced techno pressure that never quits, 'Endless Flow' twitches with sci-fi edge over thudding drums and 'Intuitive Force' gets dark and menacing. 'Arena' is bold, stripped-down, and built for dark rooms and heavy systems. With a sound that's unmistakably his, Taito delivers techno at its most uncompromising here.

'Unfolding' lends a heart-in-mouth pre-drop choir motif to an antecedent stab centrepiece, whose vestiges linger long after the refrain tapers off. Label head Thomas Schumacher remixes the track in airier and floatier tones, meanwhile, creating an abiding minimal progressive ballast to contrast the A-side's intense eschatology.

Review: The third and final chapter of R3volution Records' 3volution trilogy is a powerful meeting point between past and future. Bridging sci-fi-laced techno with 90s minimalism, it features deep sound design and muscular drum patterns that combine for real club potency. UVALL from Tbilisi offers refined, deep rhythms with his cut, then Operator brings seasoned UK innovation and label co-founder Divide delivers precision and weight with global pedigree. Elsewhere, Belgium's PTTRNRCRRNT tunnels through textures with futuristic, conceptual drive. Each track is a standout weapon but together they make for a cohesive, forward-thinking statement from a label closing its vinyl trilogy on a high.

Review: French techno alchemist Vardae is the latest artist to feature on German experimental drum & bass label Samurai Music. Vardae has dabbled with 85/170bpm speeds before, most notably on his excellent 'The Kaipos' EP. This time we get a full EP's worth of deep techno-influenced drum & bass, a sound that is familiar to anyone following recent trends in the deeper scenes of techno: acid lines, forest drums, mystic vocals, etc. The opener 'The Light Motion' is a halftime groover with fluttering percussion propelling it forward. The second 'Chaeming Your Soul' has a more recognisable drum & bass rhythm underneath, bringing to mind Overlook and UVB-76's back catalogue with powerful acid washes over the top. 'Voices Of Depossesion' has a conventional four-to-the-floor beat but at a blistering BPM and 'Flaming As A Cloud' ends with an excellent drum & synth-ony. One for fans of Marco Shuttle, Pessimist, et al.

His offbeat, chrome-plated and heavy style has been heard on Blawan's Voam and Batu's Tiemdance before now and here Verraco blends Latin club energy with signature rhythmic invention. The title track drives with mind-melting techno and ragga-infused bass, while 'Total' fuses gqom and dubstep with holographic vocals inspired by Arca. The grime-tinged 'Sobe Sobe' features Ugandan MC Yallah over Orbital-like pads and gritty, Coki-style midrange. Verraco's genre-blurring mastery knows no bounds.

Incompleti (5:53)
Destino (6:19)
Review: End Of Perception welcomes Italian label head and Acquario resident Viels for a first solo outing that is all about peak time techno with a meditative energy and strong mental imagery. These sounds sit well with those from country peers like Nuel and Donato Dozzy in that they are linear, loopy and full of spectacular sound design. 'Sospiri' is a swampy and dubby sound that is always shapeshifting, 'Movimenti Tellurici' is more intense and sounds like being trapped in a factory during peak production hours and 'Incompleti' has a deep space pulse. 'Destino' pairs thudding hits with synths that encircle you and lock you in the here and now.

Vil & Cravo - "So Right" (6:14)
Vil & Cravo - "420% Foda" (5:38)
Cravo - "Futuredetroit" (5:22)
Vil - "Hard To Find" (7:18)
Review: Caricia Records launches with a debut release from longtime collaborators and techno-faves VIL and CRAVO, who have been refining their signature sound through years working with the Portuguese Hayes collective. After killer outings on labels like Monnom Black and Klockworks, they deliver a precise yet characterful EP here. Opening track 'So Right' locks you in with rolling percussion and hypnotic vocals, setting a controlled mood. Then '420% FODA' grooves with classic swing and textured loops made for full-body movement. On the B-side, CRAVO's 'Future Detroit' brings a spacious, subtle vibe, while VIL's 'Hard to Find' closes with more unrestrained and mischievous energy. A focused, no-nonsense statement.

VINZ - "Instinto" (6:44)
VINZ - "Transradio" (6:07)
Juan Dairecshion - "Rebel Rebel" (7:16)
Juan Dairecshion - "UR Love" (7:03)
Review: Interdance impressed with its first couple of forays onto wax and now its third release packs in more fresh talent from South America's underground. On the A-side, Buenos Aires' Vinz delivers two standout tracks: 'Instinto,' a raw, trance-tinged techno trip straight from 1992, and 'Transradio,' which is a cinematic journey with pounding drums and acidic synth lines burrowing deep. Flip to the B-side for Uruguayan producer Juan Dairecshion's deeper, more hypnotic sound on 'Rebel Rebel,' which rides a steady four-on-the-floor pulse, while 'UR Love' dives into murky, Detroit-inspired territory with eerie vocals and twisted melodies inspired by the group name-checked in the title. A bold, mind-bending four-tracker built for serious late-night floors.

VNTM - "May I" (6:07)
Jerm - "Scar Tissue" (5:41)
Obscure Shape - "What Connects Us?" (5:02)
Valentina Miceli - "Fact One" (6:17)
Review: SEXYRECS is back for round two with a selection of technoists all charged with firing up the floor. VNTM's 'May I' opens with booming kicks and unsettling tension. Jerm's 'Scar Tissue' is more in your face with ragged rhythms and lurking low ends that flow through the mix. Obscure Shape taps into his signature scintillating loop sound which is designed to suspend you just above the ground on 'What Connects Us?'. Last of all, Valentina Miceli ups the intensity with 'Fact One', which marries the urgency of early Jeff Mills with the low-end throb of Skudge. Four well-tooled weapons.

Purple Light (4:51)
K2 (Ouwe Versie) (5:20)
Tornado Acid (5:26)
Stop This Insanity (5:09)
Review: Dutchman David Vunk returns to his Moustache label with the Backdoor EP, which is a powerhouse concoction of electro, EBM, acid and techno in true bunker style. The 12" features gritty, all analogue-produced cuts like the hefty 'Purple Light,' more bright and melodic stomper that is 'K2' and gurgling, swampy, depraved 'Tornado Acid'. 'Stop the Insanity' is a crackerjack of pinging toms and rickety drum machines backlit with synth warmth, all crafted in his basement studio by the harbour and mastered by the master, Alden Tyrell. These are sounds that are ready to storm speakers but do so with plenty of narrative and emotional nuance.

The Girls & Boys (Catz 'n Dogz dub mix) (5:26)
Review: After recently singing to Ministry of Sound, Wh0 - Robert Chetcuti, formerly of Rhythm Masters- continues his ascension in the dance music world with a 12" for esteemed label, Rekids. The original mix is a polished club weapon that blends sensual grooves with deeper house textures. Wh0's ability to layer catchy vocal hooks with finely tuned production helps the overall sound and the intricate changes. With over 30 singles to his credit in less than a decade, he keep the volume up as well as the quality. Adding firepower to the release is the remix from Catz 'n Dogz, who take the original into more intense techno territory. Their rework simmers with suspense before breaking into a charged, kinetic drop. Where Wh0's version leans into flirtation and bounce, Catz 'n Dogz opt for a tougher, warehouse edge. Together, these two versions provide a versatile one-two punch for DJs.
