Selador Decade Vol 1
3D & Robert Owens - "Known Love" (7:51)
Olivier Giacomotto & Quivver - "Snailblazer" (6:40)
Dave Seaman & Hernan Cattaneo - "Napkin Knowledge" (7:28)
Argia & Jepe - "Salitre" (7:38)
Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. A varied yet firmly cohesive collaborative release - the perfect way for Selador to kick off their 2023 catalogue.

Remote Viewing Party - "Pink Panther" (6:29)
Review: Detroit label Infolines is back with their third release, arriving in the form of this exciting four track various artists EP. Label boss ADMN, a local staple of the scene affiliated with Paxahau and Movement Festival, makes his vinyl debut here alongside Mister Joshooa (My Baby) with the low slung minimal tech house of "LFOs Are Tight" which is absolutely perfect tackle for the afterhour. It then receives an absolutely hypnotic and arcane rework by local legend Delano Smith. Over on the flip, we have one seriously oddball groove on the slo-mo tip titled "Pink Panther" by local outfit Remote Viewing Party, comprised of Aran Daniels and Mike Petrack.

Mike Clark & Marcus Harris - "Hey"
Santonio Echols - "Piano In The Light" (Emanuell Echols mix)
Brian Kage - "This Saturday Night"
Ryan Sadorus - "Down Below"
Review: Upstairs Asylum is kicking off the year in some style with a couple of killer new EPs. This one is the first in what is presumably a new series to showcase the talents of the Motor City. Mike Clark & Marcus Harris get things underway with 'Hey' which has a subtly uplifting feel thanks to the bright, sustained chords and cuddly drums. Santonio Echols's 'Piano In The Light' (DJ Emanuell Echols mix) is laidback, playful deep house with magical chord work and Brian Kage brings his classy depths to the smooth grooves of 'This Saturday Night.' Ryan Sadorus brings things to a close with the smoky 'Down Below.'

Review: Cyclic and Random combine their creative forces on what is a deeply atmospheric new EP of club-ready techno for Notta. 'I Am Happy, As Am I' gets underway with celestial synths up top and more rugged rhythms down low while the mid-section is defined by sustained drones.'Speak Dirty' sinks it grainy, smoky dub techno territory and if it rolled for days you wouldn't mind such is its depth. 'DddSP' keeps things airy with more optimistic chords floating over another set of grainy dub drums with tons of reverb. A Tm Shuffle dub shuts down with a more upright groove that hints at something playful is to come.

Review: Killowat Hour is a collection of 90s-inspired gems that seamlessly blend new and old influences. On Side-1, LP Rhythm's 'Want Your Love' kicks things off with a nostalgic nod to prog and euro house, delivering a distinctly 90s vibe. Aida's title track, 'Killowat Hour,' ventures into futuristic techno territory, incorporating elements of new beat for a modern twist. Mance's 'Cross Reference' follows with bouncy techno rhythms, smooth melodies, and trance influences that keep the energy flowing. Other highlights include Hottpretty's 'Make Me Yours,' which takes listeners on a trancey, heady journey through early 90s techno, offering a vibrant and energetic experience. Mad Again's 'The Night' closes the collection with deep euro house vibes, adding a layer of sophistication to the nostalgic set. This compilation is idea for those who like deep house and those who appreciate the balance of classic and contemporary sounds.

Review: Electro monarchs Maelstrom, Locked Club and RLGN return to EP-making with a four-track array of acid bangers, happily working together on a split record to celebrate the pan-European electro scene. Their offering is unequal in quantity (2 Maelstrom and 3 Locked Club tunes) but is resolutely equal in heat; 'LA Nuit Est A Toi' is Maelstrom's standout, bleepy and suffocating in its generative, janky fright. Locked Club and RLGN follow up, 'Kill Me' being the best and most suicidally pushy techno track to soundtrack our nightmares.

Rinaldo Makaj gets things underway with the serene grooves of 'Computational Universe', which has some of the nicest snares we've heard in some time. Review: London label Fourier Transform welcome back Rekab (James Baker) and label debuter Mre for 'Ace High'. 'Armadillos' rolls up its chassis for a serious exercise in minimal weight, reconstituting tuned percussions as it trundles along, while Rekab's 'Always Having Fun' posits an ideal life-mode: a steady, direct current of enjoyment, set to hedonically calculated beats. 'Climbing High' rebates the percussions for a subtle lark's ascent in deep acid, while 'Ace' complementarily descends across cross-rhythmic breaks and harmonies.

69db - "Trip-Le Time" (4:34)
Review: 'NET 23EP5' on Network 23 Records sees more lost classics from the Spiral Tribe production squad getting a reissue. On Side-1, Crystal Distortion's 'Beat Frequency' (2nd mix) wastes no time in establishing its dominance with a fast loop that's both banging and driving. Pushing the boundaries of intensity and percussion, this track is sinister in its execution, dumbfounding listeners with its relentless energy. Following suit, 'Drumkode' delves into heavy bass territory, infusing techno with elements of EBM, resulting in a raw and powerful sonic experience. Flipping to Side 2, 69db's "The Tunnel (Kgb 001)" offers up precise techno craftsmanship, characterised by mechanical sounds layered intricately to create a hypnotic atmosphere. Closing the EP, 'Trip-Le Time' takes listeners on a sci-fi journey, with broken beats and intriguing rhythms that defy convention.

Radical Chic - "In Da Shadows" (Terry Francis remix) (7:31)
Space Bunny - "The Key" (Wax Trax remix) (6:37)
Review: Gems, a new label with a nose for unearthing dusty relics of the UK tech-house scene, kicks off with a double shot of pure 90s dynamite. Label boss Paul Still, Croydon luminary and veteran crate-digger, has dusted off these two bangers, ready to reignite dancefloors. First up, Terry Francis unleashes a remix of Radical Chic's 'In Da Shadows' that'll have you reaching for the lasers and sweating buckets. This ain't no polite shuffle - it's a full-on assault of pulsating basslines, swirling synths and big energy. Francis, a master of his craft, layers textures and effects like a sonic sorcerer, conjuring a tapestry of sound that's both intricate and exhilarating. Flip the wax and Space Bunny's 'The Key' unlocks a different kind of chaos. This infectious groove, built on chunky drums and a hypnotic bassline, is pure, unadulterated dancefloor hedonism. But it's the vocal snippets and playful synth stabs that truly elevate it to legendary status. The Wax Trax remix adds a contemporary twist, injecting a fresh dose of energy while retaining the original's undeniable swagger. If you're craving the authentic sounds of early tech-house, Gems is your new dealer. These aren't just reissues; they're sonic time capsules, transporting you back to a time when the dancefloor was a sweaty, euphoric escape from reality.

Review: Rain & White Transit Van kick off a new collaborative project with this first EP on Damo B's Emotec label, and what an inspired cosmic trip it is. 'Cliffdive' is a subtle opener with thinking cosmic leads and lazy mid-tempo groves sweeping you up and depositing you amongst the stars. 'Castaway' then puts crunchy drum breaks front and centre, waiting around the edges with mystic chords and melancholic emotions. There is high-speed electro slickness to 'Park' complete with flashes of acid and 'Sin' closes with a mix of muted synth modulations, warped metal surfaces and bumping electro beats.

Review: Cyclic and Random set a high early standard for the eying Nottingham label, but last time out it was the trio of RDH, N6 and XDLS who stepped up for one track each. They are back once again with more tasteful techno treats. 'Signal Flow' from RDH is a Maurizio-style deep, smoky, grainy dub techno excursion into the unknown, then N6 pairs things even further back on 'Becozich', which moves to and fro like a warm current in the deep ocean and carrie with it various bits of sonic plankton. There is no concession to urgency on XDLS's 'Valuu' either. It's another fathom-deep, super roomy dub slow burner that is all about letting your mind do the work.

Review: Since making his Running Back bow 12 years ago, Sebastien Kramer has periodically returned to Gerd Jansen's label to deliver EPs (and one memorable album). Acid Leak is his eighth release in total for the imprint, and as the title suggests makes extensive use of sounds created by the small-but-mighty TB-303. Kramer sets the tone with the title track, a triumphant blend of acid house and Detroit techno sounds featuring some classic, Underground Resistance style synth strings, before cannily combining rising and falling melodies, buzzing electronics and undulating acid lines on 'Wing Wing'. 'Acid Flow' is a more jacking, forthright and mind-mangling slab of breathless peak-time brilliance, while 'Frantic' sees the experienced German producer join the dots between sci-fi-powered excellence and tactile deepness.

Some of you may have heard his release under this moniker on Kyle Hall's Wild Oats label a little while back. Technoindigenous Studies serves as a platform for his many alter egos and side projects with this new EP titled Taino, a tribute to his own indigenous Caribbean ancestors. Whether it's the heady electro sounds of opening cut 'Bajacu' (Morning Light) on the A side, or the mesmerising deep techno cut 'Mucaro' (Night Owl) on side B, or the introverted late night computer funk of 'Karaya' (Moon) - this is what makes Gifted & Blessed what it is

Review: Berlin's Regent returns to Mutual Rytm with a precision-crafted techno anthem backed by a trio of heavyweight remixes. 'Permean' is the kind of track built for peak-time warehouse deploymentifierce in its groove yet unusually emotional, merging surgical low-end with spiralling pads that lend it a timeless and melancholic charge. Dutch veteran Sterac pares things back with a hypnotic, tunnelling reshape that nods to classic 90s minimalism. Head High, Rene Pawlowitz's house-adjacent alias, flips it into a thudding, big-room roller with buzzing synths and tough drums primed for festival sets. Finally, Shed delivers the darkest mix of the lotihis 'Forceful Pressure' take ratchets up the intensity with distorted kicks, jagged loops and glitched-out percussion. It's a masterclass in restraint and tension, channelling the relentless energy of proper machine music. For a four-tracker, this covers a serious spectrum of club pressureifrom introspective to incendiaryiwith Regent's original anchoring the release as something both forceful and strangely beautiful.

There's distortion in abundance, and a laissez faire approach to soundsystem impact in favour of textural, atmospheric sculpting. It's dripping with intention even as it stumbles inquisitively from one lo-fi tweak to the next, sounding utterly inspired and delightfully unhinged in equal measure. What's most important is the melodic warmth which peeks through the noise, edging this above the usual murk associated with noise-doused electronics.

This latest release arrives on El Milagro Records and has a distinct edge and introspective moods that adds up to a reflective journey of depth and drive. 'H Dimension' is a speedy space-tech sound with nostalgic synth work and evocative mid-to-high frequencies echoing the spirit of '80s melodies. 'Hologram' is wrapped in a mysterious, emotive atmosphere with smart synth sequences and snappy low ends and 'Die Ritme Vertel' is a mechanical rhythm with blurts of synth, neon colours and freeform drums. Review: For many artists the world over, the Castlevania anime, game and manga franchise is a huge source of inspiration. What's not to love about superhuman vampires and vampire hunters represented in gothic anime style? Here the UK producer Richer dedicates his latest EP for REM/Voyage to the series, by way of a four-track trans-Sylvanian-formation, through haunting self-dubbed vocals, eerily emulant gothic new wave percussions, and phasers set to a discernibly house and techno stun. Best on this bloodthirsty haul has to be the alternate take of 'Delomelanicon', which, through its preternatural pad harmonics and faint chain rattling sounds, plays back with the same sense of mistily cloaked drama as is best conveyed in a first edition copy of Bram Stoker's Dracula.

It's a yin-yang journey of sound that shows his range and quality. 'Monotone' pairs signature deep chords and soulful vocals and distorted bass with minimal drums, while 'New Plan' is a driving, rhythmic workout of persistence and groove. 'YIA' offers meditative chords and affirmations set against a thunderstorm backdrop and the flip, the title cut explores shadowy jazz textures with a mysterious groove, 'Maze' marches forward with urgency and layered rhythm, while 'Deep Dirt' closes with gritty, broken-machine chaos. This four-track release marks the label's first full EP by a guest artist and showcases Robert's unique ability to blend deep, dynamic techno with crisp sound design and powerful drum arrangements. This EP pays tribute to the interaction of minute particles that unleash vast power, drawing inspiration from quantum mechanics. Robert's style is defined by fast-paced, hard-hitting club sounds that weave melodic elements and disruptive beeps into a foundation of compressed and, at times, distorted rhythms. His ability to craft intricate, sound-rich environments while maintaining relentless energy is on full display here. Describing the release as a sonic exploration of the universe's elemental forces, Robert channels minimal techno with nods to Detroit and a fascination with the cosmos. All and all, a powerful techno record that is as futuristic as it comes.

Ben Sims - "Snapshot '99" (6:06)
Mark Broom - "WWWWWWWWork" (4:07)
Mark Williams - "Next 21s" (5:24)
Roku - "Acid Amnesia" (5:04)
Review: Four new motoric Hardgrooves from the eponymous label, riffing off the back of a mountain of DJ support in recent months to bring three of the best formerly digital-only tracks to grace the label's catalogue, plus a brand new, previously unreleased cut from Ben Sims and Mark Broom under their infamous Roku guise. Sims and Broom whack up the velocity thruster to eleven on the As 1 and 2 respectively, with 'Snapshot '99' and 'WWWWWWWWork' providing little opportunity for exhalation or ease. The odometer hand is well and truly straining, nigh broken by the time we reach Mark Williams' 'Next 21s', with its hypey falsetto rave shouts, while the diminutive duo Roku round things off on a salacious acid smoke bomb, 'Acid Amnesia'.

Tiger Stripes - "Altar" (6:23)
Pig & Dan vs Gregor Tresher - "Granular" (Update 2022 mix) (6:37)
Wehbba - "The Next Step" (6:10)
Nicole Moudaber - "Come To My Beat" (feat Romina) (6:50)
Review: The all powerful Drumcode label still does a fine line in big room techno after countless years and even more releases of the stuff. This third part of the A Sides collection brings together a towering selection of names from that scene including Tiger Stripes with the smooth cruise that is 'Altar'. Veterans Pig & Dan vs Gregor Tresher get more intense with frosty loops and dubby hits building a vibe and Wehbba ups the ante with acid daubs and fizzing drums on 'The Next Step.' Nicole Moudaber's 'Come To My Beat' (feat Romina) then hammer home a hefty techno groove.

Tia (reissue)

Echt Rot (7:47)
Tia (10:02)
Feuerwasser (5:49)
Review: In the formative years of his career in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Ricardo Villalobos frequently utilised a handful of alternative production aliases - first Minta Spacew (one EP way back in 1993) and then more frequently Richard Wolfsdorf. Tia, first released way back in 2000, was the Chilean minimal maestro's second outing under that alias and has become a sought-after EP in recent times - hence this Rawwax reissue. A-side 'Echt Rot' is typically Playhouse-era Villalobos, with cut-up vocalisations, odd noises and spaced-out electronic snippets riding a crunchy minimal-house beat and looped, mind-mangling TB-303 bassline. Title track 'Tia' features simmering orchestral samples clustering around a typically wonky, stripped-back beat, while 'Feurwasser' sounds like the blueprint for many of his later minimal techno workouts.
