Loka has a captivating, jacking sound which somehow also manages to be supremely deep cover despite its fierce beat. Review: JSPRV35 and Line-o hook up for this thrilling split EP on the new but impressive label For You out of the Netherlands. JSPRV35 is first out of the blocks with 'Testing' which is some high-octane and classically inclined techno with punchy low ends and scintillating percussion. 'Funktional' is just that but is not devoid of character with its mechanical loops and bleeping synths. Line O's 'Thelle' is bristling, linear and loopy techno for 5 am wig-outs and 'Layer One' shuts down with dubby undercurrents and menacing pads that are constantly on the creep.

'Kolibri' is a more stripped back cut, with rusty textures and prickly metal skating over a rubbery groove that seems to float as it races on wards. There is plenty of energy in the pounding, off-grid kicks and hits of 'Ples Sloevna' which has vocal stabs and urgent sirens again adding to the intensity while closer 'Kolo' is more scuffed up broken beat techno machismo.

Review: New label Loopaina keeps impressing here with a split EP that offers up the talents of Swedish artist Lakej and Madrid's Biorc. The collaboration brings together the creative visions of both artists who weave together elements of Swedish and Spanish electronic sounds into rich, detailed soundscapes. 'Readjustment' is a rollercoaster though static-laced techno, 'Null Particle' is stripped back and eerie machine techno minimalism and then a Biorc mix brings more snaking synths and unsettling open space to his version of 'Readjustment' and Lakej's remix of 'Null Particle' is like being trapped in a storm in the arctic, and it sounds great.

Review: Lakker's debut release on Love Love Records happens to be the imprint's first vinyl and it melds shrill melancholy with hypnotic techno grooves. It's both captivating enough for home listening, but also primed and ready for DJ deployment. Following their work on Blueprint and Killekill, Lakker retains their intricate sound while intensifying their focus on the grooves with 'LF9' evolving from chaotic rhythms into a powerhouse of clattering percussion, accompanied by haunting pads. Review: Neil Landstrumm is one of the UK's most underrated but high-achieving artists if you ask us. He's done it all over the years and has been pivotal to a number of different in-between sounds flourishing into scenes. Here he lands on a fellow UK institution in Swamp 81, once a home to cutting-edge bass and now offering an outlet for Landstrumm to explore the cosmos. He does so with his usual mix of quirky sound designs and heavy grooves on 'Minimoo' which is both serious body music but also playful and charming. 'Aintgotnojob' is a twisted juke-inspired B-side with reverberating low ends and tightly looped vocal phrasings that melt the mind.

Review: The cultured Attic Music crew is back with more sumptuous techno that comes in a trio of different moods. Fabrizio Lapiana's opener 'Deep' is just that - a warm and smeared and smudged world of serene pads and rolling drums. 'Ritmo Ossessivo' is more intense with distant sirens looping over linear drums which are all topped with chattery percussion. 'Repetition' might be the best of the lot - a deep, hubby, heady, stripped back bit of late night techno perfection.

Review: Short Attention Records makes a welcome return here with a new drop of wax that fits the label head into its roots in deep techno sound worlds. This one takes the form of a various artists' EP crafted with an intake feel for cosy floors and who better to kick off in that vibe than the revered Lawrence whose 'Hawser' is a groovy and melodious track. Next, New Jersey don Joey Anderson sets a slow and deep tone with 'Human Kind' which has moody vocals and Japanese artist Takuya Matsumoto follows with 'Three Flowers', a more potent and driving cut with a fine acid bassline. Rounding off the EP is 'Desired Spring' by R/K, a loop-driven deep house gem designed for both listening and dancing.

Review: We're glad to finally hear more from Korperspannung after they set a high standard with their first release back in the summer of last year. This one comes from Len Leno and again offers up a high standard of techno invention. 'Echolocation' doesn't have any dolphin sounds in it but it does cruise as freely as the ocean-going mammals in their pomp. 'Corrugation' is one to keep you on edge with nervy synth motifs looping over percussive and linear beats and 'Radio Silence' then cuts more loose with lashing synth sounds, pulsing pads and a sub-aquatic tension that keeps you on your toes.

Review: Lenny San debuted on Planet Rhythm earlier this year with Fern Der Matrix EP, an impressive opening salvo of dub techno from a hitherto unknown name. Now Lenny is back with a follow up drop which leans into a thumping, crucially funky kind of peak time sound that holds true to the best kind of techno. 'Expansion' in particular is a bouncy workout of the highest calibre, while 'Disruption' is a straighter plug into the cavernous techno abyss. 'Eruption' brings that swing back in a subtle fashion, coming on like some of that early Skudge heat, while 'Dispersion' has a leaner sound palette and its own cheeky strut which offsets the steely sonics perfectly.

The A-side is a teeth-clenching, bassline-driven beast that is raw, gritty and euphoric with static rhythms, stabbing synths and a halftime arpeggio breakdown that erupts into dreamy pads. Review: First surfacing back in 2006 on UK IDM label SCSI-AV, the Lost Trax project has allegedly been a platform for any number of artists to produce under the cloak of anonymity, all identity shorn so the focus remains on the music. After a clutch of 12"s for Tabernacle at the turn of the decade, Lost Trax was reactivated last year with a contribution to a Shipwrec 12" and now migrates to Rotterdam's finest, Frustrated Funk. On the opening title track, "Life Out Of Balance," Lost Trax display a nervous fidgety energy and a looseness in execution that will sound quite thrilling on the dancefloor, whilst "It's You" is a muddy yet heavenly cut that will appeal to fans of Terekke. Closer "Out From Under" finds crystalline electro rhythms caked in thick tape hiss too.

Mysterious Manc monarch Louis The 4th nods at this fact with an express delivery straight from the millworks; even in the most brutal of working conditions, one might find love. 'She's From Manchester' evokes plumes of ashen smog as the waste byproduct of an excessively productive, surplus labourious love affair. Foundries founder, and railway workshops curdle under the weight of mechanical process, as the fast propulsions of 'Sub Genetic' and 'Stuck In The Void' quell the soul as much as they do exhaust the body, outstripping and going beyond the injurious demand to work overtime. 'Suffering Experience' closes on a dulled but continual note, as wan reverberations resound in a now abandoned factory.

Review: Louis The 4th made something of a splash in 2024, delivering a string of well-regarded EPs on TH Tar Hollow, Prima Materia and Planet Rhythm. He begins his 2025 release campaign with a typically assured return to the latter label, taking us on an imaginary climb up Mount Agung in Indonesia. Hints of this loose theme can be spotted on opener 'Balinese Morality', a pleasingly melodic (but undeniably tough) techno workout in which rising and falling synth loops dance atop a punchy rhythm track and deep, booming bass. Review: Chloe Lula's 'Torpor', released on Blueprint, delivers a dark and intense collection of techno tracks, each exploring a distinct sonic territory. Side-1 opens with 'Pattern Recognition', a heavy, deep techno track that feels ominous and otherworldly, creating an alien atmosphere with its pulsating rhythms. Torpor is a gripping, shadowy EP that will appeal to listeners drawn to the darker, more atmospheric side of techno, all while maintaining a tight, high-quality sound throughout. This is definitely taking techno one step further.

Review: Lurka is back on his own label Damage which is a place for harder-edged sounds and here includes remixes from Ossia. The one original, 'Red', is a thrilling rhythmic workout with a skeletal kick drum pattern that is broken and loopy, and deft percussion layered in over the top next to wet synths and undulating bass. Ossia's first rework spins it out into a more distorted and manic cut fizzing with static electricity while the second is slightly more paired back but no less menacing. This one has been mastered at Scape in Berlin and is mad limited to just 100 copies so do not wait around.

Deluka brings some sci-fi imagery to the loopy sounds of 'My Underground' and Louis The 4th takes off on dry, glitchy minimal beats on the serene 'Ongoing Motifs.' Model HZ's 'Render' is a more synth-laced bit of classically inclined techno and Askkin's 'Life Spectator'' comes full circle with another eerie, sparse sound for freaking out late-night dancers.

Review: Planet Rhythm has been one of the premier hard techno labels for over 30 years now. Exploring some different avenues in the last decade, the label recently launched a series of heavy dub techno related records identified as DUBWARS. Volume two features four different artists this time with each submitting a new piece to the label focus. Fans of Basic Channel's 'Phylyps Trak' should quickly head to OFF/GRID - 'One Stab Ahead' for that main room filler. Gunjack's 'Memory Man' is another upbeat killer in its own right adding a bit of acid along with the melodic chord progression. For the second side, Antic Soul's 'Mandalore' stirs in a bit of house culture to the hard dub techno sound to great effect. Lastly, Lenny San bring's the party to their feet with 'Hedonist'. Heavy techno heads should really enjoy this packed 12"

Review: Over the past couple of years the Ohm Series of 12"s has quietly become one of the best in the field of dub techno, always carrying a respectable range of artists pushing the sound forwards, and now carrying the kind of weight which tells you you're getting the best these artists have to offer. On the seventh entry we can hear Ohm himself, aka Bjarnar Jonsson and Octal Industries teaming up for the deeply submerged creeper 'System (vs Federson)', while Lee Holman brings something brighter, more Motor City-inspired to the table on 'Absorbed By The Elements'. Andrea Cichecki slinks into a mellow, swung house mood on 'Universe Blue' and El Choop leans in on the sound design around his chord sounds to create the rhythmic heat in his outstanding 'FORPOD'. As ever, the bar remains high with the Ohm Series offerings.

Review: Netherlands techno titan Planet Rhythm goes full percussive gas giant on their latest V/A, 'Friction', a motorsport motivator full of accelerometric elan - one of several V/As to grace their revving catalogue in recent times. Ramon Tapia leads the motorcade with 'Friction', a stabbing aerator full of overtop claps and rims, while Louis Lp's 'Radioactivity' unsettles with its seething high ringing and affectively isolated chord-stab-melody. Review: Gale-force sonic apneas from Planet Rhythm, the label and unstoppable phonic force from Rotterdam. The imprint's latest V/A release in the Dubwars series this time takes on its own name, 'Minerals', and welcomes rambunctious techno troilers from the likes of Unknown Code, OFF / GRID, and Luca Accardi. Rhythmically dragged, diminished stab-chords define the A1 and A2 against metal girdered kick patterns, with 'Moment' especially nailing that ever-sought-after sweet spot of energy and anhedonia, a mixed feeling perhaps only achievable within techno's ambit. Dub techno inflections turn to infarctions, as Accardi's 'Minerals' sucks the sonic substrate dry with ballistic echoes, giving way to Gockel's minimal mountaintop NDE, 'Meditation In Tibet'.

Review: Planet Rhythm's third transmission is another various artists' affair that takes no prisoners. This is straight-ahead techno that is proud of its perfect planed linear loops and ability to get you in a mediative head space. Erdem Yetim kicks off with the seriously weighty 'Perfect Silence' and its panel-beaten loops. Simone Tavazzi's 'Pyramid' is another hefty kicker with icy hi hat ringlets and fleshy drums while 'Das Ego' is as good as reductive dub techno gets. Dave Simon hits the nail on the head with his 'Dubby Stomper.'
