Review: Cisco Ferreira has been revered by those who like their techno with a menacing twist for, oh, nearly 20 years now. The British producer has clearly lost none of his production verve, with his name adoring three separate records hitting the Juno shelves this week. The first is a hookup with Portuguese producer Industrialyzer, with the Jonestown EP offering three slices of industrial renegade techno, namely "Yellow Fish", "Jack" and the EP's title track, which serves as a tribute to the victims of the Jonestown massacre in 1978.

Roberto Capuano - "Flashback" (6:32)
Victor Calderone - "Requiem" (6:42)
Ian O'Donovan - "The Border" (7:43)
Review: Adam Beyer's Drumcode imprint has for around 15 years been the go-to label for peak time, up front techno on the harder side of things; and this is more of the same! Who better to start proceedings than Belgium's Marco Bailey throwing down a right stomper in the form of "Don't You Want Me" while Italy's Roberto Capuano gives us "Flashback", its infectious melody hypnotises you while its beat pummels you. New York City legend Victor Calderone serves up "Requiem" which is more minimal in presentation, working a vocal loop over a nice bass stab and those harsh, metallic snares. Finally Ian O'Donovan gives us "The Border" with its epic soaring strings, bleeping melody, dark stabs and funky bassline getting more on a progressive/tech house tip.

Interstellar Funk - "1999"
Mark Du Mosch - "Soulsearch"
Deniro - "Bobcat"
Review: Holland's fearless Tape series returns with a hefty dose of electroid groove science from some of its most talented members. As per usual, the beats are murky and the melodies swamped, ingeniously blending shards of techno together with bursts of electro. The killers have to be Mark Du Mosch's "Soulsearch", a blistering clusterbomb of a track reminiscent of Gesloten Cirkel at his finest, and "1999" by Interstellar Funk. Don't miss this one; it'll go for bucks in the future. Hand-stamped.

Jambers At Carat Club (4:35)
The Return Of Van Rossem (4:38)
Review: A repress of Innershades & Betonkust's 2018 new beat sensation 'Forever In Boccaccio!' has long been requested by hardcore record collectors. And now it has become available and has been fully remastered and housed in a new sleeve design, limited to just 300 copies. It was first made, according to the two being it, in January 2017 "under grey Belgian skies," when they had been consuming lots of acid and new beat, which of course shows. The title cut is brilliantly dark and gothic but is backlit by haunting vocal harmonies and underpinned by a menacing bassline. The three other cuts explore similar moods and grooves with great authenticity.

Invisble Menders - "Three On Three" (9:10)
Memphis - "Altered States" (7:03)
Miro SundayMusiq - "From Behind The Corner" (8:39)
Review: Following an excellent EP from Memphis, Animals On Psychedelics returns with more weird and wonderful party fare from the outer reaches. This time it's a various artists release that brings together all the producers involved in the label so far, while also introducing BPMF to the fold with the woozy, rubbery synth shapes of "Liza On Clouds." Jane Fitz and Dom Ahtuam's Invisible Menders project presents the rolling, psyched out melodics of "Three On Three," while Memphis pushes further into experimental territory with the wonderfully fractured "Altered States." That leaves it to Miro SundayMusiq to complete the EP with the wave-meets-Italo tones of "From Behind The Corner," a perfectly noirish flourish to finish a sterling record.

Brother's Yard - "Moskito"
Inigo Kennedy - "(Losing My) Reflection"
Grovskopa - "He Cannot Hear Us"
Luka Baumann - "Rodd"
Review: Abiotic Recordings is pleased to present the 3rd in a series of 4 releases benefiting the Mercy Crops charity for the victims of the Tsunami Disaster in December 2004. All 16 artists donated their time and music to make this release come true. All profits made from these four releases will be donated to the charity. After the successes of the last 2 volumes, the A-side takes a more minimal approach while the flip features a tough break beat industrial influence. Brothers Yard (aka Peter Dundov) starts volume 3 off with a track that will be a must for the fans of his work output on Musicman & PV. Inigo Kennedy (Asymmetric, Missile) follows up with another minimal yet experimental track with innovative drum programming & strings & Synth lines that seems to come alive as they jump out of the vinyl. On the flip we have a track from Grovskopa that appears to be his most club orientated to date. Wicked breakbeat programming and raw industrial synths may remind of Surgeon back in the early Counterbalance days, but we can assure you that this track is in a class of it own! Luka Baumann completes the record with another offbeat monster, using huge string and pads and clever programming to create a masterpiece that could easily find its way onto both the dance floor or a soundtrack to somebody's nightmares.

Imre Kiss - "Dis Slo"
Review: Oh yes, Exitab's Proto Sites series delivers its third instalment and it's nothing but vibes thanks to a collaboration between Hungary's Imre Kiss and Slovakia's fledgling artist, Casi Cada Minuto. The former has appeared on London's Lobster Theremin while the latter has remained within Exitab's catalogue for the time being. Three tracks from each artist, all of them exploring the furthest ranges of techno and electronica. Casi Cada Minuto's contributions can only be described as ambient stunners thanks to their watery textures and sparse soundscapes, while Imre Kiss' cuts are undeniably more club-friendly, but only just about! "Dis Slo" is arguably the winner of the lot, bringing forth a twitchy beat jam filled with airy sonics and just the right level of grit.

DVS1 - "Electric" (7:26)
Steve Bicknell - "Odyssey #2" (4:12)
Review: It seems Function is a fan of Cassegrain & Tin man material as he's just signed them up for his next release on Infrastructure New York. For this second Berghain 07 sampler, Function's appetite for boomy, acid techno is whetted by the collaboration's "Oxide". Meanwhile, former flatmate Ed Davenport, aka Inland, delivers "Sca Fell", a subaqueous workout that would get the Mike Parker seal of approval. DVS1 throws down some trademark warehouse beats with some caustic stabs to boot, while Steve Bicknell delves even deeper into the abyss than he did on the first sampler, with a track that's as menacing and frenetic as what Drexciya can be.

Promenade Eleven (Kirk Degiorgio remix)
Review: ART-NR2 is the third release in A(Applied) R(Rhythmic) T(Technology) Records Re-master series following on from Carl Craig's Psyche/BFC and Kirk Degiorgio's "Nairobi" EP. "Promenade Eleven" lives up to the billing of those illustrious predecessors, being a reverse-engineered remake of "Night on the Promenade" which originally appeared in limited quantities on the New Religion label in 2006 under the name "Super-A-Loof". The re-worked A-Side is as delightful as its cosmic original. Fit for a soundtrack, it's dramatic yet dreamy soundscape trickles effortlessly into every pore while an earthy kick makes for movement. Kirk Degiorgio takes up the remixer role on the flip, delicately cupping the spacey atmosphere and giving it all the respect it deserves. But, by adding some punchy claps and a delightful groove - Degiorgio modernizes "Promenade Eleven" for today's floors.

Starting out with the deep and hypnotic tribalism of Dorisburg and Efraim Kent's "Bubblebad", Japanese legend DJ Nobu then starts trancing you out on the deep acid trip that is "Safari". On the flip we've got the Prologue affiliated Iori with "Transparent" which further explores his awe inspiring take on modern ambient music; absolutely lush this one is! Can't Touch Me
Review: Its looking good for Indecent Grooves as the label follows up releases featuring Cave, Trevor Rockcliffe and Brian Sanhaji with this quality collaborative EP from label boss Elite and Pirate Audio main man Wilco (aka Ignition Technician). Lead track "Just Can't Believe" is based around the robotic vocal of the title, backed up with a fat-as-you-like bassline and slicing hi-hats. Slightly ravey and perfectly produced, this is another stormer from these two great producers. Next up Elite takes the tribal techno formula and gives it a sharp electronic edge for the driving "Low Rider". On the B-side Wilco works alone, transforming "Just Can't Believe" intone of his trademark Ignition Technician stoppers and finally the pair team up for "Can't Touch Me", a furious mix of old-skool shout outs and acid basslines.

Alex Falk - "Mitsuda"
Hank Jackson - "Mongoos"
Jackson Lee - "Sumba Togola"
Independance Ave Orchestra - "Welfare"
Review: ** REPRESS ** A seventh release on Proibito arrives and it finds label boss Anthony Naples switching things up as the full artist approach is cast aside in favour of some posse gathering tactics. Label regulars Hank Jackson and Huerco S both feature (the latter under his newly helmed Independence Ave. Orchestra pseudonym) and they are joined by Proibito debutants Alex Falk and Jackson Lee - both of whom have priors for Proper Trax and Mystical Disco respectively. "Mitsuda" by Falk is a strange, ghostly slab of techno characterised by odd phasing and the occasional gurgle of stretched tape, whilst "Mongoos" from Hank Jackson keeps it weird but turns the mood towards something a lot frostier. On the B Side "Sumba Togola" from Jackson Lee mangles up all manner of vocal samples amidst a twisting groove of manipulated bass lines and unpredictable drum programming whilst the glistening "Welfare" suggests Huerco S is using the Independence Ave. Orchestra name to show a different aspect of his productions skills.

Review: The cultured ESHU label has pulled other some more tasteful talents for this four track 'Conrexture' EP. It opens up with Julien Fuentes's 'Jah Justice' (Klaridub Ambient mix) which is a nice atmospheric opener with some conscious dub mutterings and sci-fi pads. Jocelyn & Yasin Engwer then kick on with some watery, sub-aquatic minimal dub tech bliss in the form of 'Sticks & Stones', Voal gets even more dark and dirty with some grubby dub basslines on 'Eight Ball' and Ivano Tetelepta/Christine Benz layer up watery droplets, melodic whistles, static electricity and rubbery rhythms to mind-melting perfection on 'Supreme.'

Ahora Si (D Tiffany remix) (6:47)
Review: Butter Sessions latest must-check release comes courtesy of Melbourne-based rising star Furious Frank, whose recent EP on Paper-Cuts was particularly impressive. "Ahora Si" is similarly inspired, with the young Australian producer placing Ivy Barkakati's "Sueno Latino" style whispered vocal over a bold, alluring blend of jangling dream house pianos, rugged acid lines, sunrise-ready chords and loose-limbed analogue beats. He provides his own dream house style interpretation (the brilliant "Frank's Sunrise Mix") before inviting Ivan to give his take on the track. He adds some tribal percussion whilst retaining the cut's inherent dreaminess before Canadian producer D. Tiffany re-imagines "Ahora Si" as a bass-heavy chunk of UKG/breakbeat house fusion.

Review: Horizontal Ground return with their first release of 2015, introducing the KGIV production partnership of US pair Kit Geary and Israel Vines. Of the two, Vines is the more established producer, with 12"s on Cult, Eye Teeth and his own Borrowed Language in recent years, but the sheer calibre of music here suggests KGIV is a most creative endeavour. This no-nonsense four-track 12" continues in the fine HG tradition of tough-edged techno with an imaginative twist, using expressive percussive tones and textures to inject colour and movement into the tracks without compromising on impact and functionality. Along with the three original tracks from KGIV, there is a killer broken techno refix of "Rendering Intent" from Downwards pair Talker.

Review: The first official LP from Geinst comes by way of a collaboration with lesser-known yet no less talented production god Inerit. Together, they bring generative techno pops and chops via modular ambient to the former's self-titled imprint. 3 years in the making, 'Geinst' is the result of frank conversations about how to effectively collaborate. A merger of hazy, breathily grand proportions, we're most taken by the cyberpunkish post-watery chords of 'Neocitizen' and the clicking factoryscapes of 'A(R)' - both of which sound like limitless traversals of dubious eco-cities.

Review: In terms of recruitment, the Khemia Records imprint couldn't have done a better job by calling up on the fresh and exciting talent that is I Hate Models. The blurry figure that surrounds the artist feels tailor-made to the label's cavernous electronic excursions, and he'll fit right in among the likes of Volte-Face and In Aeternam Vale. The producer is joined by Italy's new industrial debutant, Vittorio Di Mango, and the pair launch an all-out EBM attack with the powerful groove of "Cyanure Dance", the sort of tune that makes you wish all electro basslines were this well polished! "Epilessia" governs the flipside with in a similar fashion, but the buzzing murmur of sonics is more condensed and subdued here, sounding like some proto-techno missile that has the charisma and diversity to appeal to house heads, techno fiends, and those nostalgic EBM junkies looking for that killer slice of bass. "0000.030" almost comes on trancey with its throbbing square wave bassline, keeping restrained even as a thunderous kick powers away beneath. Yac Intercept
I/Y 0000.021
I/Y 0000.022
Review: A new shadowy techno outfit are on the march with an obtuse name and numerical track names. Possibly a duo, possibly not, the Berlin based I/Y are making some waves with a no-nonsense approach to techno that takes much from their hometown in inspiration, clearly fed on sleepless nights in techno caverns to summon up their own icy sermons. "Yac Intercept" actually has a slight New Beat flavour to it in the disco drum machine patterns, while the synths are pure cold-hearted bleakness. "I/Y 0000.021" meanwhile plies a curious tact with a bouncy groove populated by rapid-fire drum hits that come on both jovial and militaristic in the same breath. "I/Y 0000.022" is a more minimal affair where the beat comes second to the nail-scraping central drone.

Irakli - "Walk Over" (5:05)
Review: Irakli and Yacoub aka I/Y have taken Berlin by storm in the last few years, becoming strong fixtures of the local scene since making the move from their native Georgia and setting up shop in the capital with performances at regular haunts like Berghain and about//blank with their revered Staub parties. Their label likewise is on to good things, already on to its second release. I/Y Moments offers up some great tracks by Flexxseal head honcho Christopher Joseph with the snarling and savage analogue techno jam "The Key" which sounds like Waveform Transmissions era Jeff Mills and Ukrainian master of hypnotic techno Stanislav Tolkachev who serves up the woozy and hysterical "Don't Be Surprised". I/Y themselves offer up another Jeff Mills tribute of their own with the cyclical chimes of "Bellwether" while Irakli flies solo on the deep atmospheric techno of "Walk Over".

And On The 3rd Day
The Healing Begins
Inri
The Wall Of Breath
Review: The multi-faceted Jamal Moss releases his latest EP under his Iamthatiam moniker. Put out through his own Mathematics Recordings imprint, "And on the 3rd Day" is a four track EP of his distinguishable abstract sound that in this case, explores heavy tribal drums and spiritual dub atmospheres.

Having recorded under a number of alias’ including Hieroglyphic Being, The Sun God and Jack-FM, it is as Iamthatiam that Jamal Moss builds on the sound of his home city of Chicago with his matchlessly unique and expressive experimental sound. "And on the 3rd Day", which was inspired by Peter Gabriel’s Passion and Chain Reaction showcases an unhinged mixture of acid, industrial techno and noise.

The EP’s title track and its successor, "The Healing Begins" are the most conventional offerings on the release, yet as customary with Moss - they are indeed, far from conventional. "And on the 3rd Day" features warped Chicago synth stabs that do actually resemble the traditional sound of the city. Of course there is experimentation there, coming this time in the form of clinking and clanking metallic drums. "The Healing Begins" goes with rattling drum machines and bends the bass and synth parts almost beyond recognition. But it is the final two tracks where Moss really brings the craziness. On "Inri" he smears tape distortion all over a rough tracky jam. With noisy FX throughout, this is a strange but harmonically seductive number. "The Wall of Breath" is sheer Jamal Moss madness - there is no other way to describe it, apart from maybe calling it an extract from a stethoscope recording of an industrial factory’s techno foetus.

Throughout this EP we see Moss operating on the fringes of his most abstract output yet. However, he manages to keep it expressive and powerful at the same time, making "And on the 3rd Day" a true benchmark for the experimental sounds of techno

IBM - "Sexually Broken"
Tzu Sing - "Teeth"
TWINS - "Mind Out Of Reach"
Tract - "Light In Extension"
Review: The third edition of Clan Destine Trax's Dark Acid series arrives offering another mixture of established names and newcomers as well as retaining the gleefully nihilistic sonics of previous transmissions. The legendary Jamal Moss is the headline draw here and "Sexually Broken (Instrumental Version)" finds the Mathematics boss adopting the rarely used Insane Black Man alias and sounds like the remnants of "Clear" by Cybotron mangled beyond recognition and force-fed through a battered old 303 on the cusp of full-on malfunction. Tzu Sing's "Teeth" will please fans of the recent Charles Manier LP whilst Matt Weiner's TWINS project feels like a doped up D'Marc Cantu. Finally Clan Destine/ Dark Acid regular Ela Orleans unveils her Tract project with "Light In Extension" which is perhaps the track truest to this series' title.

Maur (6:43)
No Cry (5:10)
Svever (6:09)
Review: Copenhagen-based label Ectotherm is looking like an increasingly interesting prospect thanks to a string of electronic releases spanning the full electronic belt, and all of them emanating from a sublime, homegrown selection of new talents. After Rune Bagge's excellent jungle-IDM escapades, debut artist Ibon rolls through with a devilish techno punch entitled "Maur", a fast, slick 4/4 bruiser with a myriad of evil bleeps that reminds us of peeps like Regis or Jeff Mills back in the golden days of dance industrialism. The material on the flip ain't too shabby either, though, as "No Cry" enters what we like to refer to as 'a downward spiral of euphoric dread', and "Svever" carries forth a magnificently crunchy swing of beats accompanied by a rather ominous yet meditative swarm of gentler melodies.

Review: The new release on Carl Craig’s Planet E is from the camp of Los Hermanos, a side project of Detroit’s Underground Resistance that has grown into its own collective of musicians and DJs. In 2005 they released the debut album "On Another Level", performed an impressive series of live shows throughout Japan and Europe, and quickly gained a reputation for creating music with soulful power. The core crew combines the talents of Gerald Mitchell, Esteban Adame, Santiago Salazar and Dan "DJ Dex" Caballero. Two skilled keyboard players and two skilled DJs combine to form four producers that have made a powerful impact on the global electronic music scene. Los Hermanos unique combination of techno and house has been heard in the sets of DJs like Carl Craig, Fabrice Lig, Josh Wink, Jerome Sydenham, Joe Claussell, Claude Young and many more.

Convey
Changes (Adam Beyer remix)
Review: Swedish DJ/Producer Joel Mull (Inside, Drumcode, Code Red, Primevil, Lask, Truesoul, Elp, Sway, Bio etc..) dons his Icarus disguise once again, as he returns to Jericho, following his previous 'Round Midnight' and 'Nightfly' EPs. Here, Joel starts with some dark and seriously funky stabs for 'Changes', intertwined with uplifting percussive vibes for a very groovy and melodic dance floor production, that will no doubt appeal to cross over DJs also. Track 2, 'Convey" sees Joel, keeping the beats tougher, with a harder groove, nagging melodic riffs, and funky elements for another effective Jericho production. The AA side features a brand new interpretation of 'Changes' from legendary fellow producer Adam Beyer (Drumcode, Mad Eye, True Soul, Jericho, Primate, Soma, Nova Mute, Intec etc.) who totally reworks the production, with some sinister effects and rocking glitchy elements for a Mad Eyesque workout, which is truly deadly. Support already from CDR from Jel Ford, Adam Beyer, Joel Mull.

The Dance (6:03)
Review: Despite the French-sounding artist alias, Ici Sans Merci actually started his career in 2006 in the underground scene of Amsterdam. His rates go way back before that though as this new EP is a brutalist, no-frills techno offering that will take you on a white knuckle ride from the first beat. 'Dream' is overloaded with distortion, square bass and rock-solid kicks, 'Warrior' has a little more bounce and funk thanks to the rolling bass, then 'Scream' layers up a bulky groove with twisted synths, wall rattling hits and plenty of late-night menace. 'The Dance' brings some urgent melodies to the party which only serve to up the intensity levels.
