Poetic Frame (6:09)
Poetic Frame (Victor De Roo remix) (4:02)
Poetic Frame (Anatolian Weapons remix) (7:55)
Review: Having spent much of the last few years working alongside Lou Savary in cold-wave revivalists Reymour, Luc Bersier has decided to go solo as Marcel Die Sie. His debut release, which also happens to be the inaugural EP of the Rababoo label, naturally inhibits a similar sonic space to his work with Savary, with each of the three original cuts on show offering a mixture of chugging, mid-tempo grooves, wayward electronics, early '80s new wave synth sounds and a subtly psychedelic mood. There are similarly impressive remixes on the flip too, with De Roo's moody, occasionally spacey IDM style take on 'Poetic Frame' being followed by a hypnotic, acid-fired and trance-inducing interpretation of the same track by Dark Entries artist Anatolian Weapons.

Apollo Jazz (reissue)

Apollo Jazz (8:26)
Metamat (9:01)
Review: It would be fair to say that Tobias Menguser's sole single as Leon De Winter, 1997's Apollo Jazz, has become a sought-after item in recent times - and with good reason. One of the earliest releases on the fashionable-again Eukahouse label, the two-tracker confidently blurred the boundaries between futurist early tech-house, electro and more psychedelic dancefloor flavours. Finally available again in remastered form thanks to this Mint Condition reissue, the A-side title track is simply sublime: a gorgeous and timeless fusion of deliciously dreamy chords, high-register acid lines, bittersweet melodies, smooth but deep bass and shuffling electro-not-electro bliss. It's emotive dancefloor perfection! Flip-side 'Metamat' meanwhile is darker, squelchier and moodier, with chunkier beats, rougher TB-303 motifs and weightier bass.

FYI (JK Flesh remix) (4:27)
Raw Food (Roly Porter remix) (5:28)
Life Cycle (Konx-Om-Pax remix) (5:57)
Review: Dead Fader is the alias of one John Cohen, here with a set of remixes of his forthcoming Jenny153 LP on Milanese imprint Parachute. Across nine tracks, it bridged the gap between classical and club music structures, while examining the crossover points between the two disciplines. According to Cohen, his work deals with themes of acceptance and an 'opening up' emotionally. The recordings presented a viewpoint of the potential space that exists on the outer limits of dance music. Here come some stellar remixes from the LP by the current who's who of industrial edged techno music. Birmingham legend Justin Broadrick aka JK Flesh delivers an abrasive and slow burning rendition of "FYI" showcasing his trademark guttural sound. The inimitable Roly Porter of Subtext fame delivers a cinematic and suspense filled sound design epic on "Raw Food" and Scottish beatsmith Kon-Om-Pax (Planet Mu/LuckyMe) serves up some lush and evocative futurism on his rendition of "Life Cycle".

Review: Dead Fader jumps from Kimochi Sound over to Tesuji with a rolling, dreamy, euphoric rendition of future electro. Essential, optimistic, forward-thinking. On the other side, Bassiani's HVL flips the beat on its head for more ominous perspective, complete with klaxon acid line and sinewy breakbeats.

What They Had (6:21)
Wherever You Are (6:53)
Dance 'Till The Cops Come (6:38)
Nobody Likes You (6:34)
Review: Dead Poets Society return to Radioaktion Recordings with a four-track EP that delves into the darker corners of techno and house, a sonic exploration for those who like their nights long and their music with a touch of the macabre. 'What They Had' sets the tone, its hypnotic groove and haunting melodies weaving a tapestry of sound that's both captivating and unsettling, like a midnight stroll through a graveyard bathed in moonlight. 'Wherever You Are' takes a more introspective turn, its ethereal textures and melancholic chords inviting listeners to get lost in its depths, a sonic sanctuary for those moments of introspection on a crowded dancefloor. But don't be fooled by the EP's introspective moments; 'Dance 'Till The Cops Come' is a relentless techno roller, its driving rhythm and dark energy practically forcing movement, a track that seems designed to induce a collective trance on the dancefloor. 'Nobody Likes You' closes out the release with a touch of dark humour, its distorted vocals and gritty bassline adding a playful edge to proceedings.

Collapse
Review: Pronounced Ay One Four, the A14 label is a new offshoot of Blackest Ever Black dedicated to issuing everything from "serpentine breakbeat reductions to straight-up terminator trax" in the 12" format. The debut release comes from December, the recently adopted alias of Parisian producer Tomas More whose earlier material for Correspondant and Items & Things is far removed from the music he now makes. If you picked up the December tape for Where To Now? issued back in August you should have an idea of the abstract textures More now deals in, and there's something a bit Beau Wanzer about the wave-indebted techno of lead track "In Advance Of The Broken Arm". Proceedings get a bit more bugged out on the flip with "Collapse" accurately summed up as "khat-crazed small hours death-dub" by the label.

Review: Later this month, Rod 'the God' Modell will grace Soma with a new Deepchord album in the shape of
20 Electrostatic Soundfields - his third for the Glaswegian label and ninth overall! If you've been following Modell's musical development over these albums you'll understand Deepchord material has become more experimental and conceptual. On the basis of this 12" teaser, the forthcoming album will fit snugly in with this evolution. Apparently sourced from the video soundtrack and installation music Modell accrued between 2008 and 2012, this picture disc contains meditative album track "De Wallen" and two equally absorbing B Sides not featured on 20 Electrostatic Soundfields. Immersive listening at it's finest!

Granular Shift
Review: Last year saw the Electronic Explorations operation manned by Rob Booth expand from widely respected podcast to fledgling label in quite distinctive fashion, releasing an epic 61 track digital compilation canvassing electronic music which featured unreleased material from an impressive range of artists including AnD, Kowton, Old Apparatus, and Perc. Having culled four tracks from that compilation for a virgin twelve inch release, Electronic Explorations now return with a second vinyl platter which eschews the bassier end of the spectrum, in favour of vintage electro. Once again a contributor to the aforementioned compilation is tapped with Dublin-based producer DeFeKT providing four tracks of prime electro for this Transmuter EP. The genre of Electro has enjoyed a fine revival this year and the Transmuter EP slots in nicely alongside Defekt's material for Signal Code and Cultivated Electronics.

Double Tap (5:08)
Hour Zero (5:12)
Review: The latest release on Orson welcomes a true electro stalwart - the mighty DeFeKT. Matthew Flanagan's commitment to the sound has been mightily impressive, and so it continues on this frankly stunning EP. Flanagan is sounding more upbeat than ever on "Flow To It", a joyous summertime electro funk freakout which Transparent Sound ably twist up into a more mechanised dancefloor weapon. "Double Tap" keeps the resplendent melodies front and centre, while also providing ample space for the DeFeKT brand of rave firepower, and then "Hour Zero" ups the ante with some strafing arps that don't let up for the duration.

Travelling Through The Speed Of Music (8:42)
Pulse (6:59)
Flow (7:13)
Review: Mental Groove offshoot Music Pour La Danse has previously put out compilations of Orlando Voorn's finest early work, so it's little surprise to see them once against dipping into the Storied Dutchman's vast back catalogue. The Travelling EP first surfaced way back in 1994 and was the sole 12" Voorn recorded as Defence. A-side "Travelling Through The Speed of Music" is typical of the producer's work at that period of time, featuring bubbling, trance-inspired electronics, gentle acid lines, delay-heavy vocal snippets and oodles of Detroit techno influences. On the flipside, "Pulse" is similarly trippy and trancey (in the original sense of the term) with lighter beats and picturesque flourishes, while "Flow" is a luscious chunk of "intelligent techno"-era electro with subtle ambient house overtones.

Artesano Titer - "Leitmotiv" (6:04)
Review: Ratiug Recordings has had a great year and this is its third fine outing so far. For this one, the Uruguayan label represses a rare and hard-to-find gem that takes us back to the naughties and the heyday of the breaks era. Spanish artist Deibeat is behind the beats first up with the turbocharged electro-funk of 'Scanned State'. Mmmh's 'Be My Way' is then a hurried and hopping electro-tinged cut with quick beats and cosmic energies and Elias Sternin's 'Gato De Piria' brings dark synth drones which search across gritty drum machine rhythms. Artesano Titer closes down with another colourful and jittery future rhythm on 'Leitmotiv.'

Rio Grande (1:34)
Wild Illusions (3:34)
Review: Early in the year, forthright lo-fi techno experimentalist Delroy Edwards released an eccentric, 22-track, download-only album called Rio Grande. Here, he makes some of the highlights of that set available on vinyl for the very first time. It's an intriguing and largely enjoyable affair throughout, with the sometime L.I.E.S man following the glassy-eyed, recorded-from-the-radio Balearic warmth of "When I Think" with the stripped-back, noise-laden jack-track "Sugar Shack". These kinds of juxtapositions continue throughout, as Edwards flits between sweet and tactile downtempo doodles (see "Rio Grande"), clattering proto jack-tracks ("Let It Rock!") and hissing 1980s deep house bliss (the woozy brilliance of EP closer "Wild Illusions").

Review: Trident is dropping a couple of top EPs this month. One is from Derrek Carr, and one is this double white 12" that finds Deltamaxx and O En One join forces. They take us on a storytelling trip through cosmic techno that varies in mood and tempo. 'Conexxion' rides a nice rubbery, bumpy groove with incidental and wispy synth sounds, then 'Delta Pavonis' seems to soundtrack a beach party up amongst the stars. There are darker, more heady cuts like 'Donnager' and icy electro cinematics on 'Isonoe' to make for a worthy collection of sounds that work on the dancefloor and beyond.

Review: Hailing from the fertile community they have built up around them in Bucharest, Delusion Men and their label Future Nuggets represent a very different twist on the contemporary Romanian electronic music scene. This album is a prime case in point, dealing in off-kilter wavey synths, intriguing rhythmic approaches and spooked out atmospheres that speak as much to the folkloric mystery of the East as any electronic traditions from other parts of the world. If you're drawn to music that sends you to exotic new places on the fringes of your imagination, then Stuck On The Border is the album for you.

40 Years Under The Cosh
Frontin'
Review: Sean Canty and Miles Whittaker make a swift return to the Testpressing series with a sixth installment arriving just a month after the excellent TP#5. The superbly titled "40 Years Under The Cosh" finds the Demdike pair wedged in the punishing crawlspace between Detroit Techno and vintage grime for six thrilling mind bending minutes, with the track gradually falling apart at the seams as the middle of the track draws close. Fans of both Pharrell Williams and Demdike Stare (there must be one or two) will probably express disappointment that "Frontin" isn't a cover of the big hatted fella's noughties hit; instead it's a brutal exercise in lurching industrial wave that will fry the brain cells of unsuspecting individuals.

Review: Clearly in deference to the Artificial Intelligence era of techno, Dendren appears seemingly out of nowhere with a double pack album that makes all the right moves in lush, ambient techno. While the formula of plush pads and synths over jagged drum machine beats may be familiar, it's not often captured with the right spirit in these times. However Dendren has got it just right, and manages to keep things interesting between the nine tracks by pitching in with varied keys and some off beat sampling which hints at the younger age of the music. Amidst all the dreamy floatation tank techno, you can even hear a slither of Moon B-style boogie courtesy of the cold-chilling "Yes Or No".

Review: Following two years spent hiding in the shadows, audio hacker Denial of Service returns to Film with another selection of raw, mind-altering gems. He begins with the thrillingly distorted, industrial electro bounce of "Contour & Shape (2016 Version)", before joining the dots between Autehcre and Throbbing Gristle on "Ak Manto". A quick bout of mutant ambient weirdness follows, before grandiose techno workout "Onryo" kicks off side B with a bang. His love of metallic, in-your-face percussion, spooky spoken word samples and ghostly textures comes to the fore on "Goryo", before another brilliantly strange sound collage - with, it should be noted, its own rhythmic pulse - rounds off an impressively forthright EP.

Finding a perfect home on the lesser spotted Aqualung sub-label, both tracks here are lifted from the Der Zyklus II EP released on DJ Hell's International Deejay Gigolos back in 2001 with that edition out of print for a long, long time! Lead track "Elektronisches Zeitecho" is taut, simple yet emotionally satisfying electro at its finest, with the spectrally haunting nature of the A Side complemented by the more playful rising melodies of "Mathematische Modelle". More please Clone Aqualung!
