This special edition includes 22 previously unreleased tracks and extensive video content. Featuring Steve Bronski, Larry Steinbachek, and Jimmy Somerville, the albumireleased in October 1984ihit the top ten across Europe, Canada, and New Zealand, with singles like 'Why?' and 'Smalltown Boy' becoming iconic. Review: This is a vinyl reissue of the 1989 album Another Place And Time by Donna Summer, the legendary American singer and songwriter, and co-pioneer of Hi-NRG disco (for those not in the know) with Giorgio Moroder. Coming fresh with a completely new novelty album cover, it's got just 10 tracks of pop, disco and dance, reflecting the late 80s assembly-line approach to releasing such music . Summer was extending one foot to balladry by this time, with the hit singles 'This Time I Know It's For Real' and 'I Don't Wanna Get Hurt' going for the more heartfelt power-chordism shot for by solo artists releasing music closer to the Millennium. Nonetheless, this is still quintessential Summer.

Review: Somewhat confusingly, much of the music we assume was recorded by Italian Italo-disco group Koto was actually made by Dutch producer Michiel van der Kuy - albeit in a similar style. From The Dawn Of Time, which first surfaced in 1992 three years after he controversially acquired the name, is one such release. This reissue - the first on vinyl, as far as we can ascertain - shows what van der Kuy brought to the project, namely a rush-inducing sense of euphoria, synth riffs reminiscent of Euro-dance club cuts from the period, and rock-solid musicianship. Combine these with throbbing, Italo-disco and Hi-NRG style basslines, bustling machine drums and plenty of sonic star-gazing, and you have a post-Italo album that sticks closely to the blueprint laid out by the Dutchman's Italian predecessors.

Review: Vintage Pleasure Boutique is an excellently named label out of Poland that is fast approaching its 20th releases. This latest 12" is another dazzling Italo disco gem that arrives on translucent yellow vinyl. Claudia T.'s 'Fatal Destination' arrived originally back in 1989 at the height of the genre's popularity and very much takes you back there with its cold but compelling synth sounds and crashing drums, all very reminiscent of the era. The soaring vocals brings the glorious hook next to zippy lead synths. This was a bit hit back in the day and is sure to win over just as many global dancers second time around.

Review: Lucca Leeloo makes a big and bold and brilliant return here with a new remix album, 'Prosperous' featuring new versions of tracks from his latest long player. It is an adventurous and epic mix of cosmic, indie dance, Italo and nu-disco that has all got the club firmly in mind. And you would expect as much given that the producer has this time enlisted cornerstones of those scenes such as Shubostar, Daniele Baldelli & Marco Dionigi, Luca dell'Orso, Endrik Schroeder, David Van Bylen, Hard Ton, Boys' Shorts and Phunkadelica.

Review: Moustache Records has long ploughed a synth-heavy, retro-futurist furrow in which 21st century producers showcase their love of muscular, body-shaking styles of the 1980s, most frequently Italo-disco and Hi-NRG. The playfully named Trending Topic fit neatly into this blueprint, with this debut EP framing them as lovers of Bobby Orlando style Hi-NRG, the camper end of Italo-disco and the formative years of Euro-dance. This approach is best exemplified by lead cut 'Terpentine', where colossal synth riffs and lead lines climb above a thickset sequenced bassline and snappy drum machine beats. That is given a slightly harder and more pulsating tweak courtesy of Machinegewhr, before our heroes return with two more tracks: the Hi-NRG-goes-trance style 'Our Adventure Begins' and the on-the-dancefloor-at-Heaven-in-1986 flex of 'Mowing The Lawn'.

Review: Maledetta Discoteca closes out its year with this special blue vinyl featuring a mix of brilliant Italo disco artists. They all hail from Italy and Argentina and are editing originals that span disco, electro, proto-house and more. Hararis' 'Si No Pagan' is the first under the scalpel and is a funky cut with raw drums. Lance's 'Yo Quiero A Lucy' is a more slowed down and seductive sound with 80s synths, Marta Paradise's 'Calling' (edit) is a direct and sugar synth laced house stomper and Alan Strani's 'Tension Salsable' brings things to a closer with a nice stomping disco grove with mysterious synths and lush percussion.

Review: Mordisco back the multi-format reissue of Disco Romance by Sally Shapiro, a sensitive and luxuriant debut record from a contemporary Italo disco and synthpop act whose identity is not at all as it seems. First cropping up on the Austrian label Diskokaine before migrating to their longtime Canadian hosts Paper Bag Records, the artist(s) operating under the name lasted an admirable while in the guise of a Swedish solo indie pop regina. In actual fact, and in a move that invited more questions than settled answers, "Sally Shapiro" was later revealed to be a duo, with instrumentals produced by ambient mastermind Johan Agebjorn in cahoots with an anonymous singer. The music is as inscrutable as the story behind it, day-dreaming up bleary terrains of synthetic, snow-sheeted sonic pine forest, with Sally's ponderous bel canto vocals serving to melt and part the icy seas around it. Mordisco here release the fittingly hued white marbled vinyl version.

Review: Avant! enlist the services of roster-shifting Italo disco project Male Tears to envisage the 'Paradisco', a clever portmanteau that invites us into further speculate on the term as a thought experiment. Indeed, a disco thrown in paradise is the obvious imago; less obvious is the observation of a very real zeigeist; that all discotheques today occur in a sort of para-situation, in a space that is a cut above normalcy, thrown in discrete fantasy spaces. Male Tears know this all too well, with such escapist flights of fancy as 'Sex On Drugs', 'Regret 4 Nothing' and 'He Wants Everything' eliciting surreal extremes of emotion, with their reverb-laden voxsynth patches, insouciant masc-femme vocal switches, and longing hooks reminiscent of Talk Talk or Liquid Sky.

Review: Mordisco reissue an incredibly compelling exercise in contemporary Italo-not-Italo which cropped up in 2006, going under the name Sally Shapiro. Manifestly the work of a snow-dappled Swedish blonde - with vocal velours rivalling the plushness of the finest satin, and backed by ten exquisite bedroom Italo uplifters - "Sally Shapiro" was eventually revealed to be a duo's work, that of producer Johan Agebjorn and an anonymous singer (Shapiro was later revealed as her pseudonym). As mysteriously arresting as it gets - with the identity of the record's star voice remaining unknown to this day - this is a record that proves the artfulness of the recorded music form: one that allows for humbling experiments in ostension, which in turn invite much speculation and intrigue. A grand total of eight albums ensued through the artists' Paper Bag Records home turf, but it's the debut, Disco Romance, that set the Nordic snowy ball rolling.

Review: If you're looking for a bumper collection of chart bothering and ever-popular 80s disco then look no further than this. Blanco Y Negro has assembled no fewer than three whole CDs worth of the stuff and managed to include every sub-genre imaginable. Pop disco, hi-nrg, Italo disco, 80s house, nu-disco and plenty in between are all covered with aplomb. There are stone-cold classics like The Human League's 'Don't You Want Me', Grandmaster Flash & Melle Mel's 'White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)' and The Human League's 'Don't You Want Me' as well as a few equally fun but slightly less ubiquitous jams.

Review: First released back in 1990, a year after Dutch producer Michael van der Kuy took ownership of the Koto project from its' Italian founders (a duo responsible for such Italo-disco classics as 'Japanese War Game' and 'Visitors'), 'Acknowledge' returns to stores in remastered and refreshed form. Side A sports two versions first showcased on the 90 12-inch: the throbbing, deep space Italo-disco-meets-hi-NRG cheeriness of the original extended mix (A1), and the slightly moodier, dancefloor dub style 'Knowledge Mix'. Turn to the flip and you'll find two new interpretations. First, 21st century Italo hero Flemming Dallum does a terrific job in making the record sound like it was made in 1984 -unsurprisingly, the analogue-sounding synths are particularly attractive - before DJ Con-T and Opposite Direction give it a house leaning Italodance tweak.

Review: Martin Matiske is back on the ever-excellent Bordello A Parigi with his third release with the label - and it is of course another doozy. This intergalactic journey is guided by intergalactic synths and showcases Matiske's distinctive blend of cold currents and warm melodies. The title track is a delicate yet bold composition with shifting key changes and astral washes as well as some cute romantic flourishes. 'Cuore' is an analogue space opera rich in harmonic complexity and 'Heaven Knows' offsets glacial chords and deep bass. The EP closes with a cinematic finale where striking synths and subtle rhythms collide in beautiful ways.

This is the genuine article-no imitations here, just scorching cosmic disco with bright arps and electronic grooves that never quit. Review: Welcome back to ID Limited's Disco Planet which returns with a four-volume of irresistible dance floor goodness here. Eddy Mi Ami is charged with kicking things off and offers up 'Androids Escape'. Ambra Orfei's 'Love Me Too' then gets an Eddy Mi Ami remix which ups the cosmic quota and keeps the dazzling melodies flowing, and also featured is the 80s track 'Uomo Con Te' by Alex Germana, remixed by talented producer Electro Potato. Review: Dandy was the alias of choice of Italian singer Alessandre Persone, who collaborated with a string of producers to craft Hi-NRG and 'Eurobeat'-powered synth-pop hits between 1987-91. 'For Your Heart' dates from 1989. Rooted in the kind of sing-along, Hi-NRG pop pioneered by Bobby Orlando but developed commercially by Stock, Aitiken and Waterman, the song is a genuine earworm and comes complete with weighty, arpeggio-driven bass, echoing drum fills and classic Italo-disco style stabs. The killer version is the EP leading, extended 'Mix version', though plenty will also reach for the jaunty and heavy instrumental take. The short bonus 'MYOM version' is a DJ tool that cycles through various riffs and echoing vocal snippets.

Review: In some ways, the work of Figi (AKA Dutch producer Vigi Auke Weemhoff) is reflective of the Netherlands' vibrant, colourful and mixed-up dance scene - one where synthesisers are frequently foregrounded and the rhythms of house, techno, Italo-disco and boogie are mixed and matched in a variety of retro-futurist ways. Certainly, that kaleidoscopic blend is at the heart of the artist's latest album, Fig 1. Rooted in vaporwave, Hi-NRG and Italo-style synth sounds, it's a confident and sonically sparkling set that puts melodic motifs and catchy riffs at the heart of the action. For proof, check standouts 'Belka-Strelka' (an acid-flecked, drum machine-driven chunk of 80s elctro-disco), 'Fig 1', the Klakson-style electro hustle of 'ADSL' and the ultra-deep, dreamy, Endorphins-releasing wonder that is 'Ornex'.

Review: David R Jones's 'More Than A Dream' is about as Italo as Italo gets. It's also a hugely accessible disco cut with plenty of euro-dance influences in its hi-NRG, camp and upbeat arrangement. There are sinewy synth modulations and shiny arps, chugging beats and a big vocal to finish it off with plenty of razzmatazz. The dub version is included here as well as an acappella, extended mix, instrumental version and standout Eddy Mi Ami remix to complete this essential new 12" from Irma. All of these will provide great moments of energetic release in the club this winter and beyond.
