Review: Everybody likes to have a go at elitism in any form of art, but plenty of us also like to quietly value our own taste over other people's. For that reason the bold title of this one alone is rather endearing: the EP is staking its claim as Advanced House For Purists, and why not. 'Chant For The Underdog' is a bristling, lo-fi, scintillating cut for steamy, sweaty clubs. 'All Right' cuts even more loose with its whirring loops and pounding kicks taking you back to go forwards. 'I Believe' might be the best of the lot with its lush soul vocal and roughed up house groove, then 'Funky Funky Makossa' and 'Bullshit On Wax' close out in big, rambunctious fashion.

Review: Din was a short-lived alias of Canadian producer Jean-Claude Cutz, probably better known for his work in legendary Toronto industrial outfit Digital Poodle. Originally released in 1993 on the seminal DOVe imprint, the Water Sports EP features two totally blissed-out trance numbers, such as the title track and the ultra-euphoric 'Melon Ball', while 'Tower Skull' crosses over into minimal techno territory in a style that could have well influenced the next generation of Ontarian producers such as Mike Shannon, Jeff Milligan or the Thibideau Brothers. Review: Orlando Voorn and Blake Baxter deliver a powerhouse collaboration that channels the raw vitality of house music's formative years. Driven by a relentless bassline and crisp, propulsive rhythms, the production is both punchy and atmospheric, striking a balance between grit and groove. Baxter's unmistakable vocal style adds depth and urgency, weaving seamlessly into Voorn's dynamic arrangement. There's an immediacy to the track that feels alive, capturing the spirit of dancefloor culture while paying homage to the genre's roots. This is a meeting of two titans, where history and innovation collide with thrilling results.

Review: Astonishingly, Alton Miller was already four years into his production career when the "Blue Funk EP" first dropped on short-lived Detroit techno label M3 way back in 1997. The Detroiter is of course still going strong, though his productions are now way more polished than they were back then. As this reissue proves, the rawness and energy of his (relatively) early productions remains highly addictive. Check for example the hot-stepping analogue Afro-house beats, rich bass and tasty keys of "Bliss", the breathlessly loopy sweatiness of "Lovin' & Dancing" - a kind of raw disco-house cut-up masterpiece - and the trippy, breakbeat-driven sample house intensity of "Blue Funk" itself. The smoothest track of all, the NJ deep house influenced "All Tonight", is closest in tone to his more recent productions.
