Review: 50 Cent redeems himself with his newest single, "Ayo Technology", featuring the hit-making team of Justin Timberlake's vocals and Timbaland's production. The song is about a mans pornography addiction (with 'technology' being used as a euphemism). With great lyrics, Justin's addictive vocals on the hook and Timbo's top-notch production, this could very likely be Fiddy's finest hour.

DJ Zeph - "The Fire" (instrumental version)
Azeem - "The Fire" (acappella version)
Azeem & The Architect - "Experiment 2"
Review: Azeem and Myka Nyne flow fluidly together over the first beat of this 12". Myka Nyne, best known for his membership in Freestyle Fellowship, has been deeply involved in the both the New York, and Los Angeles hip-hop scenes for years, where his solo career continues to flourish. Azeem and Myka Nyne are a natural one/two punch on "Basic Maneuvers" - trading verses then unifying to flip the hook. Supported by raw beats and rhythmic fuel, DJ Zeph and Azeem light up "The Fire" on the b-side. Azeem's mix tape fans will also appreciate the two Architect tracks on the inside of both sides - enlivened and street-conscious with a raw uncontainable spirit.

Cinnaman & Jay Scarlett present Beat Dimension Vol 1
Black Pocket - "The Road"
VeebeeO - "No More"
Mweslee - "Un Joder Suave"
Super Smorky Soul - "Smoke College"
Tom Trago - "Fluorgreen Legged Gangster"
Review: Cinnaman (Rush Hour, Young Buck) and Jay Scarlett (Spacek Soundsystem) teamed up to compile an album dedicated to new developments in beats produced by the up-and coming as well as celebrated producers from all ages and backgrounds. These people are mostly brought together by the mighty internet, where they share and compete (with) their beats. These producers all have at least one thing in common; their love for beats. Cinnaman and Jay Scarlett have now brought together an unique selection of these beats, already coined Beatstrumentals. We packaged it as Beat Dimensions. The first two album samplers (total of three) are strictly limited to 500 copies and total 10 beats. Many new comers here, like VeeBeeO, Super Smorky Soul and Pursuit Grooves, but also known producers like Steve Spacek (as Black Pocket), Up Hygh, Aardvarck and Flying Lotus (as Flyandsam).

The Blapps Posse - "Don't Hold Back" (remix)
Outrage - "(Too Much) Energy"
Outrage - "Religious B-Boy"
The Blapps Posse - "Do What U Want To Do"
The Dynamic Guv'Nors - "These Guys Are Doper Than Dope"
Review: Well ahead of their time, The Blapps Posse cut some of the most agenda-setting records during the late 80s and early 90s. Gnawing and slapping their way through hip-hop, funk, hardcore and acid house, they made the records that soundtracked those early halcyon summers of love. This selection of cuts gathers the crews various guises and off-shoots and comprises the broadest of their abilities; from innocent formative hip-house ("Don't Hold Back"), sample-smashing seminal big beat ("Religious B-Boy") and bleep-style rave hopscotch ("These Guys Are Doper Than Dope"). Unearthed by Fat Hop champ Jerome Hill and remastered to stand up to today, this is a bona fide document.

Blue Mitchell - "Good Humour Man" (5:24)
The UMC's - "One To Grow On" (4:45)
Review: The Originals sample-seeking series continue as we're asked to compare and contrast an original source and a classic execution made years later. This is a perfect example; here Blue Mitchell's Blue Note 1967 smoky jazz instrumental (taken from his Heads Up! album) is remembered in all its multi-strand narrative glory before we jump deep into early 90s b-boy heaven by way of New York's UMC's. A fine lesson in how to work a sample to the funkiest effect.

James Brown - "Funky President" (extended Breaks Special edition) (4:25)
The Vibrettes - "Humpty Dump" (part 1 - extended Breaks Special edition) (3:16)
Review: For the second in their series of clear vinyl reissues of some of their most sought-after "sevens", the mysterious Breaks & Beats crew have chosen to revisit their fourth 45, which originally landed in early 2018. It's well worth picking up, if only for the version of James Brown classic "Funky Presisdent", which features extended grooves and breakbeats for added DJ pleasure and double-up opportunities. That said, we're also big fans of the mystery scalpel fiends' light-touch revision of the Vibrettes' brilliant, voodoo funk favourite "Humpty Dump (Part 1)". This, too, makes more of the original's short drum breaks and strutting instrumental grooves, before unleashing the female vocal group's great vocals.

Cat: AC 003. Rel: 28 Nov 22
Captain Gloats vs The Beastie Boys - "Ring My Cheque Up" (4:34)
Captain Gloats - "Chequestrumental" (4:34)
Review: A genius soundclash with a distinct New York flavour, bringing two generations of world beating sounds from the Big Apple together on the same track. The rapping is just as smart mouthed and amusing as you'd expect, but it's their unlikely pairing with these familiar 70s disco grooves and additional beat enhancing that brings this release to life. It all makes for a heady, ludicrous but also ludicrously natural sounding mashup that you can really imagine causing carnage on many a dancefloor. There's an instrumental mix on the flip, too, for those after something a little less audacious to spin, but the A-side is where the true action is.

More commonly known for the photographic direction of the Madvillain albums amongst other things, Coleman proves his production chops on his first solo endeavour. Review: The latest missive from France's Stereophonk imprint is a heavy double header focused on the production and remix work of cut-and-paste funk and soul heroes Funky Bijou. On side A you'll find a fresh slab of P-funk flavoured B-Boy breaks from the Gallic production twosome that wraps classic early '80s rap samples and excitable synth solos around punchy electro beats and a squidgy synthesizer bassline. Camron feat Jaheim - "Lord You Know"
Review: The one early 90s rap track, the unified granola munching, tree-hugging rurals with the usual, rather metropolitan, grim hip-hop clientele gets boosted for today's house floor by Germany's shinning knights of funk-filled house. Yet instead of just putting a slamming beat underneath the acappella, they fire-up the crowd with a looped bluesy guitar lick and sweet background vocal part that is rather hidden in the original version. Combined with a skipping, percussive beat this is a smasher.

Bus Dat Ass (4:17)
Got It Bad Y'all (4:10)
Review: Boom Bap Classics does exactly what it says on the tin once more here. For the eighth time, it has chosen some real heat to offer up on 7" as King Tee and The Alkaholiks feature with two of their golden era boom-bap gems. 'Bus Dat Ass' has a mix of raw and dusty drum breaks and big, bouncy bars that bring a party feel. On the flip things get more slow and dirty, the bars are less playful and more serious and the production features squelchy bass and hypnotic Middle Eastern melodies. Two gems, to be sure.

Curious (feat Ms Haptic)
B. Portal
Review: After a summer spent deep within their own customized black hole, Kode9 & Spaceape emerge with this all-new single, the only vinyl outing for 2 tracks providing a preview of their feverishly awaited incoming full length CD 'Memories Of The Future', due at the front end of October. Featuring one of Spaceape's most direct verbal performances yet, 'Curious' opens in the wind tunnel - laced by the lush vocals of new recruit to the Hyperdub Kru, Ms. Haptic - and refrains with the infectiously ambivalent chorus "Maybe we will save you... Maybe we will kill you". Rushed along by its bustling hi-hats, 'Curious' drops into Hyperdub's customary wall of sub. While both tracks feature Kode9's distinctively offkey combination of melodica and synth, and an equally upfront vocal, 'Portal' swerves into another orbit altogether with deranged, alien synths skewing an accelerated, rollin' half-step groove, as Spaceape flows from outer to inner space. A wake up call to dub zombies everywhere. "A truly original ska-tech probe. Jettisoning dubstep's sludge step dirge for levitational piano chords, hallucinatory melodica loops and disorientating fx vapour trails, they've stepped up their game admirably. And with Spaceape moving out of LKJ's shadow into his own regal kingdom, there's an air of befitting confidence, and that's brilliantly heightened by Ms Haptic, sounding like Nicolette locked in the echo chamber.

Review: The Leisure Allstars make a triumphant return with the second single from their debut album with a collaboration featuring New York hip-hop crew The Good People. "A Lot To Say" is a slice of golden era, jazz-tinged hip-hop. The piano stabs, head nod beats and rolling bassline give Emskee and The Saint the perfect backing for their rhymes, reminiscing about the good old days of hip-hop when bling was just a platinum-encrusted glint in the young P Diddy's eye.

The Devil Made Me Do It (3:24)
Strut Your Strut (3:09)
Review: Although this tidy little 7" from Mako and The Hawk might sound like it was made in the late 80s on a pair of cassette players, these two beatsmiths are very much part of the current wave of dance producers, and Number Nine is there to support them on their mission. "The Devil Made Me Do It" is a funky, breaks-heavy funk bomb guided by Chima Anya's masterful lyricism, while "Strut Your Strut" is slower, looser and that little bit deeper for those B-side cats. Whether you're into old-school hip-hop or soul music, this EP has what it takes to float your boat good and proper.

Review: Messiah J & The Expert present to you their new single "When The Bull Gores The Matador" on Inaudible Records. It features a guest appearance from New York hip-hop heavyweight, C-Rayz Walz (Definitive Jux.) Taken from their forthcoming second album, it is available on limited edition 12" vinyl. The B- sides are 'I'll Show Them Who's Boss' and 'For Some Disgusting Reason'. Messiah J looks after all word-related elements while The Expert tinkers with gadgets and gizmos. They’ve supported Public Enemy, The Streets, Jurassic 5, Gangstarr, Buck 65 and Xzibit, amongst others. They have recorded sessions for Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 1, Across The Line on BBC Radio Ulster and for 2FM in Ireland. They won the title of Best Dance Act in 2004 in the Hot Press Reader's Poll. They were also nominated for Best Dance Act in the Meteor Irish Music Awards (The Irish Brits). They have received the honour of Single of the Week/Fortnight in several publications for the three singles they’ve released so far. "They're one of the sharpest, most exciting bands - of any genre - this country has." - Hot Press , "Truly great hip-hop. A brilliant soundtrack to any moment either pharmaceutical, sexual or simply dysfunctional where you feel like your head's gonna explode." - DJ Magazine, "Irresistible. Aggressive, funny and technically on point - just how it should be done" - Muzik, "This is not just great hip-hop, but great, great music." - Hot Press on 'What's Confusing You' LP, "The most immense string swoops this side of GZA's 'Publicity'...Awesome." - Hip-Hop Connection on 'Bloodrush'
