Dance (Louie Vega dance ritual mix) (11:26)
Dance (Louie Vega latin soul mix) (9:34)
Review: The 3 Winans Brothers project is made up of Bebe Winans and Daniel Weatherspoon, who appear here courtesy of Masters At Work legend Louie Vega...on his very own Vega imprint! Their "Dance" tune features The Clark Sisters on backing vocals and is herein remixed twice by Vega: the first is the "dance ritual mix", a soulful house cut with an r&b twist, while the "latin soul mix" focusses more heavily on the house beats and it's a more typical Vega tune which could feature in a typical Vega set, rotary mixer and all!

Tommy Vicari Jnr - "Because You Can't See Dreams In The Light" (5:59)
Tommy Vicari Jnr - "L I W F U" (6:30)
Review: It's been a while since the Albion stable graced our platters, but they're back in style with more of that on-point house music voodoo for the heat of the night. This single is a vessel for the various sides of Tommi Vicari Jr, who rolls out his Czevski alias to deliver a bruising remix of "57 Hertz" by 76-79. It's a reverb-soaked, dubbed out affair with a rock solid rhythm section and plenty of trippy FX tweaking on top. On the flip it's a different story with a similar feeling as we get the straight up Tommi Vicari Jr material in the shape of two killer tracks crafted for transcendental moments of dancefloor hypnosis.

Acasual - "Her"
Tominori Hosoya - "Thinking Of The Days"
Kiddmisha & Apoena - "Dancin"
Jonno & Tommo - "Mystic Feelings"
Review: The latest offering on Owen Jay's Batti Batti label features a cast of characters doing different but equally excellent things within the realm of deep house. Acasual is up first, presenting a reflective tour through lingering chords and swirling pads perfect for rainy spring days, while Tominori Hosoya goes one further with the soul-stirring ambience of "Thinking Of The Days". Kiddmisha & Apoena set light to the B-side with the restrained but utterly on-point depth charge "Dancin", and then Jonno & Tommo round the record out with the sultry "Mystic Feelings", making this a complete package of high grade house music from the heart.

Adesse - "Baayi"
Truss - "Redbrook"
Massimo Di Lena - "You Better Hear"
Review: The ever-correct Prime Numbers series is still going strong, this time bringing together a thoroughly eclectic range of producers to lay down some solid club fodder. Adesse adopts the tenderest approach, bringing a soft African lilt to a subtle arrangement of light drums and poignant chords with the whole A side to drape a deep house opus over. Truss is certainly in no mood to chill on "Redbrook", going for a big room techno flavour that favours rigid beats, acid parps and epic swathes of organ. Massimo Di Lena is on a far more twitchy tip, with a snagging assortment of percussion and some woozy synths that leave one feeling wonderfully dizzy.

Alex Agore - "Think About It"
Ernie - "Tu En Mi"
Timnah Sommerfeldt - "Happen"
Stojche - "Glommy Feel"
Review: Launching with a very clear remit in mind, Prized are obviously set on being all about clean, smooth deep house. They've reached for an interesting spread of accomplished producers who have been doing the right things in the right places for a number of years now, and they sit together perfectly on this EP. Alex Agore has a punchy production finish and a prime cut of garage diva vocals; Ernie is a little more languid in his own "Tu En Mi", while Stojche takes a different tack with a robotic Detroit-flavoured jam that makes a nice diversion from the rest of what's on offer.

Amir Alexander - "I Remember House When House Was House" (feat Cecilia Bruun Hansen) (7:11)
Nicson & An Gelo - "Hold Your Horses" (8:03)
Thomas Wood - - "Always Underground" (6:19)
Review: Barcelona's Subwax emporium is an umbrella company for a variety of different labels and acts as a distributor for them, too. For this year's Record Store Day festivities, their Subwax Bcn sublabel returns with a tightly knit collaborative EP by some of the clan's most trusted affiliates. The always on-point Amir Alexander touches down with a stepping, sci-fi-leaning house cut in the shape of "I Remember House When House Was House"; Nicson and An Gelo spin the gears down into deep mode with "Hold Your Horses", and Thomas Wood's "Always Underground" takes care of the dancefloor jerking thanks to its rolling, bumping Chicago-inspired bassline.

Hell Of Samba
Too Shy
Review: After two excellent entries already notched up on their 13-part series, Awanto3 and Tom Trago return to bring more low-slung letters of house music love. "Hell Of Samba" is markedly darker than the efforts thus far, taking a brutal techno manifesto and re-shaping it to a slow-house track. The manic, cyclical hats and vaporous drones make for a thoroughly unsettling, and mightily effective, atmosphere. "Too Shy" meanwhile shakes things up further with a staggered beat, baroque orchestrations and what sounds like strange beatbox bass stabs. It's maybe not what you expect from the series, but it certainly spices things up.

Chicago Thank You
Waus Music
Review: Tom Trago continues to channel the speaker wobbles of nearby Trouw on the latest edition of his 26 track Alfabet project done in conjunction with Rednose Distrikt's Steven de Peven. Much like A/B the debut Alfabet release, the focus here is on dusted body music that pays homage to the home of house - Chicago! This is clearly most apparent on "Chicago Thank You" with a deliciously off kilter thump the centre piece to a rising groove of frosted textures and hushed vocal urges which builds towards a mid point swerve into key heavy funk. Demonstrating the project is all about variety, the flip brings the urgent drama of "Waus Music" with the familiar 'house music all night long' refrain submerged deep in an epic 10 minute arrangement primed for the darker, dingier, sweatier basement spaces out there. Just wait for those raw kicks to surface. Big tip!

Two Thou - "Group Technology" (with Alberto Collodel)
Autre - "Cosmic Roots"
Two Thou - "SOL"
Autre - "Futura"
Review: The Fields & Forest label has so far aligned itself with the stellar Russian label Udacha, featuring Dices, A5 and Cuisine Dub, but things are taking a turn into new territory with the inclusion of Autre and Two Thou with two tracks a piece on this new slab of wax. Two Thou's "Group Technology" is a snappily shaped, 80s influenced groover with some interesting timbres falling into a dynamic groove, while "SOL" shows another side to the artist with a snaking slice of jazz funk infused experimental techno. Autre's "Cosmic Roots" is a more esoteric, new age gilded slice of ambient house while "Futura" ramps up the saucy synths for a silk-tongued charmer of a warm-up jam.

Passage (Astral Stroll)
Review: Lars Bartkuhn has taken his rich jazz chops to many esteemed places over the years, from Sonar Kollektiv to Neroli, Needs Music to Ropeadope, and his expressive musical style merges perfectly with Aybee's cosmic electronic tendencies on this new Deepblak joint. "Passage (Full Experience)" is a broken beat wonder to behold, all swooning and swirling melodics and freewheeling rhythms. "Passage (Astral Stroll)" takes things deeper, letting the Rhodes lead the way amidst a pattering array of earthy percussion for a truly transcendental trip out. Deepblak's jazz instincts have never sounded so full of vitality as they do on this interstellar single.

Mikki Funk - "Lose My Mind"
Tuff Jam & Mike Sharon - "Thank You House Music"
Marc Cotterell - "Jus Dance" (featuring Karl The Voice)
Review: Having launched with a timely reissue of Trinidadian Deep's "Tree Of Life", Albuquerque's fledgling Plastik People label adopts a different tact for their second release with the first in a series of Various People split artist releases. The archival approach hasn't been abandoned completely however as leading proceedings is a Plastik edit of Louie Balo's hard to find mid '90s garage bumper "Don't Shut Me Out". Complementing this, Music Is Love graduate Mikki Funk continues to excel on "Lose My Mind" whose soul is derived from a similarly warm '90s climate as Louie Balo. Face down and Tuff Jam & Mike Sharon team up for the boompty delights of "Thankyou House Music" whilst underground legend Karl The Voice makes an appearance on final cut "Jus Dance" with his vocals the perfect accompaniment to Marc Cotterell's punchy arrangement.

Review: Tobias Holzel and Daniel Napolitano's Rough stable cook up another special vinyl only V/A ensemble and the results are every bit as delicious as you'd expect. Sinnmusik's Georgi Barrel takes the first bite with a chugging Theo Parrish style groove washed in minor key mysticism. Dub Jamz continue their Tuff Jam mission with the UKG 4x4 flavoured "Pushin'" while Thomas strips us right back to the root notes with a jazzy heads-down odyssey. Finally Rough's latest family member Maximilijan continues to prove his position with a reflective, piano tinkling groove that blushes with raw breakbeat charm. A cut above.

Pascal Benjamin - "Falkhill" (6:32)
Review: The next airdrop from the good ship Constant Black is a various artists affair with four tracks from four artists guaranteed to find a home in your extended micro sesh. Pascal Benjamin takes the lead with "Falkhill", locking into a Romanian-flavoured minimal breaks formation that rolls in resplendent fashion with a particularly choice vocal lick from an undisclosed RnB track. Michael James and Benjamin Joseph nudge the pitch fader up and dial in the swing for the decidedly funky wiggler "The Island", and TIJN keeps things bumping but works in some sharper drum sounds for the tough but bouncy "Maybe". Nick Beringer finishes the record off with the chunky funk of "Nyx", calling to mind Mike Shannon amongst others.

Bjornski & A Different Jimi - "9 To 5"

Tilman Tausendfreund - "With You"
Review: "Haste makes waste." That's the motto of German imprint Derive who grace our shelves with their annual release - the third volume of label showcases since they emerged in 2009 sporting the now established names like Rau and Brunn. Proceedings open on Derive Vol. 3 in delicious circumstances thanks to "9 to 5" from the largely unheralded Bjornski and the more well known A Different Jimi - there's no great equation to the track which glides across the A Side, it's simply a well produced deep house cut graced with subtle little touches that will catch many an ear. Sometime Fine Art Recordings artist Achim Maerz excels too with the snappy, dubby house textures of "Haters Gonna Hate" replete with deep bass tones which really need to be heard on a big system. Hamburg resident Tilman Tausendfreund slips down the BPMs for the final track "With You" a delightfully downtempo exercise which is no less impressive than what preceded it.

Crazy (Manoo & Francois A main mix)
Crazy (Manoo & Francois A Deep Journey mix)
Crazy (Charles Webster Slightly Slower mix)
Review: Deep soulful house record "Crazy" was originally released in the summer of 2010 garnering high critique all round. It's back again in its final stage of evolution, progression and reinterpretation with three new remixes from Manoo & Francois and Charles Webster. Manoo & Francois offer a main and deep mix, each as expertly executed as the other with contrasting styles. The main mix allows the sultry vocals to shine as a Balearic beat moves elegantly behind. "Deep Journey" initially focuses on the percussive and metallic drum rhythms, but slow glittering piano keys come forward to take centre stage, the down trodden lyrical style simply encouraging its beauty. "Crazy" gets a soulful and aurally decadent make over from Webster; poignant, moving and engaging it's a fitting final tribute to the original.

Review: A well balanced mix of newcomers and established artists getting together to throw down some funk. Blacksoul teams up with newcomer, Musical Globe, for a slice of disco heaven that is all about a wicked break. Review: Scott Fraser and Timothy J Fairplay's Crimes Of The Future label has had quite the banner year, ushering in various projects from the pair as well as seeking out like-minded contemporaries such as Perseus Traxx. The latest Crimes of the Future release introduces Bulb, another project bearing the label founder's finger prints along with a high profile third colluder in one William Burnett. Apparently laid down at WT Records HQ in the spring of 2014 whilst Fairplay and Fraser were committing Crimes in NYC, Bulb is a bold offering from the trio with two extended dancefloor workouts taking a side each. "Light It Up" pairs ghetto techno breaks with something from wayward Kosmiche studio experiments in deepest Germany, whilst "Dimmer Switch" plunges into a world of psychedelia and cavernous cave dwellings thanks to some dark ambient synthesis and stabbing drums.

Following up previous appearances by Carlo Gambino, Tommy Vicari Jnr and Makka, they bring the heat once again. From Ceri's sleazy and grinding "Acid Jam" which is classic 303 mischief, Dubble D aka Moodymanc's "Darkdays" has a rather soulful and emotive slo-mo bounce (despite the name!), while Berlin dwelling Irishman Michael Lovatt's "Say What You Want" is a sexy late night groove - that's perfect to nail that 3:00 vibe indeed.

First up on this 12" is Chris Stussy, who whips up an especially funky concoction with the bubbling "Monday 8th", before DJOKO and T Jacques dub things out in style with the swirling but thumping "Directions". Review: The third vinyl release of the year from Blur Records sees three distinguished producers - ColorJaxx, T.Markakis and Manuel Kane - sharing duties, each delivering a track each but with the distinctive, music-centred 'deep house fusion' flavour of the Blur label very much at their heart. ColorJaxx's 'I Know You' kicks off proceedings in upbeat mood, goaded along by a skippy garage beat, some beautiful piano work and arresting male vocals. 'Ain't Like That' by T.Markakis rolls slower and deeper, clouds of warm synth giving it a reassuring, dub feel, while Manuel Kane's 'Funk' boasts a cheery, end-of-evening sparkle with its hypnotic vocal samples and gentle sirens. Deep Space Orchestra get stuck into a refined acid bubbler, plush strings and guitar licks melting into the squelchy 303 for a decidedly smooth ride with some choice peaks and troughs. DJ Handsome - "Pop Yo Pussy" (4:46)
Traxman - "Get High" (3:00)
Review: Hot damn! Fresh Chicago booty action from legends of the genre on the fifth outing from the increasingly on-point Albion label! Here we have the legendary Dance Manian Dj Lil' Tal with "Questions", which sees the producer give up some of his classic ghetto sound with the usual bag of kinky vocal samples, while Phran's "Nexxxt" is rawer, nastier and more punishing while still keeping the vocal shots. Legend Traxman looses the plot on the bumpy "Get High", and the mysterious DJ Handsome sways and swings among bleeps on the aptly named "Pop Yo Pussy".

DJ Rush presents Knee Deep - "Lookin' For Excitement" (original 12" club mix)
Terrance McDonald - "Mind Over Matter" (original 12" club mix)
Steve Poindexter presents Kareem Smith - "To The Motherland" (original 12" club mix)
Review: Terry Farley's second quintuple-CD trawl through the early years of house, the Harmless released Acid Thunder, impressed on its' release earlier this year - primarily by the depth of the former Boy's Own and Faith man's selections. It's good to see some of those selections make it back onto wax, as Farley presents the first of a series of vinyl samplers. There's naturally plenty to get excited about, not least another chance to savour the sweaty intensity, tribal drums and whistle noises of DJ Rush's "Lookin' For Excitement". There's also some melodious Chicago jack in the shape of Terrance McDonald's 1991 jam "Mind Over Matter", and an organ-laden trip into hard-worn 909 territory from Steve Poindexter and Kareem Smith ("To The Motherland").

T Jacques - "Context" (5:51)
E Wan - "Twice" (6:44)
Review: New label Nuances de Nuit kick off in fine style with a various artists 12" that draws on some emergent names to lay out a vision of cross-style dance music that favours the deeper end of the pool. Things get going with an organ-rich house bumper from DJ Steaw that pumps in all the right places, before Armless Kid switches things up with an untitled slice of dynamic, richly layered electro. T. Jacques thumps out a crafty, swinging cut with techy inclinations and oodles of groove, and E. Wan takes things in a more linear, deep techno direction laden with gorgeous synth work and plenty of artful effects processing.

Chotto Complications (6:50)

Tiger Nuts (dub) (7:16)
Review: Tomoki Tamura and Tuccillo first fired up their Doublet collaboration back in 2015, and after a brief hiatus they've reignited the project with another three delicate and dynamic excursions. "Chotto Complications" is a crafty construction that works around an electro framework, with intricate beat programming and nimble synth lines anchored by fulsome chord drops. "Big Moon" takes things into a more hypnotic headspace, using hushed tones to mark out the atmosphere around an undulating deep house groove. "Tiger Nuts (dub)" is the feistiest track on the record, using a punchy rhythm section and nagging sample daggers to create an insistent groove that will do the damage for the tech house cognoscenti.

Duplex - "Population Density"
Tuff Sherm - "Drain Spectre (After Virgo)"
Review: For the third release on their Midlight label, the superbly named Rotterdam trio Gustav Goodstuff, Arie Ghetto and Dickie Rosewater have turned to two contrasting talents; hometown heroes Duplex and the fast-rising Tuff Sherm. The latter's "Drain Spectre (After Virgo)" is particularly enjoyable, delivering as it does a 10-minute foray into Latin-influenced analogue deep house (think vintage synths, loose drum machine percussion and hazy electronics). That said, deep house veterans Duplex also impress with "Population Density", whose warm chords, rubbery synthesizers and shuffling beats border are typically melodic whilst retaining a solid dancefloor sensibility.

You Belong To Me (Liz Torres - bitch mix)
Review: For those without a Masters in Chicago House History, Get Down Records was a short lived imprint overseen by Ed "Get Down" Crosby which surfaced in the late eighties. Crosby had his fingers in all the label's releases, either under his own name or the Get Down Gang, and it's the latter's four track You Belong To Me 12" which originally appeared in 1989 that Juno has managed to find in a warehouse! There's a primitive joy to the innocent grasp of machinery demonstrated on each of the different productions here which is absent from much contemporary house that attempts to ape this era - check the sick 303 modulations of the Chicago mix or the proto rave vibes of the Jesse Jones Street mix for evidence!

Introducing Newington

Ejeca - "RoboDrum"
Frank B - "Trieste"
Jack Fell Down - "For You"
Tom Flynn - "Going On"
Review: A bunch of bubbling UK Deep House players line up on Introducing Newington, a new label of the same name that is clearly fond of the N16 postcode with vocal house on the menu. Ejeca, the Irishman earmarked as the 'next Bicep', keeps up his relentless form this year with the opening track "Robodrum" which is a playful shuffling little house number that rotates between stabbing vocal samples and piercing chords. Moving south of the Irish border, Dublin based Frank B kills it with "Trieste" a wonderfully warp cut that sounds like it's been recovered from a dust filled DAT tape. London types Jack Fell Down take a cleaner, but no less infectious approach on "For You" whilst Midlands type Tom Flynn rounds it out with the deep and bouncy "Going On".

Fontaine Bleau
Swelted
Review: REPRESS ALERT: London's Default Position label has thus far released music by Sebastian Mullaert, Terry Francis and many more. Now El Choop and Tim Gee step up to the plate with two seriously deep immersions. Bristol-based producer El Choop has previously popped up on a tape release with Heavenchord and also released a solo 12" last year on Etui, while this single marks Tim Gee's first outing to date. The two sound utterly at home in the dub house furrow they're digging into, leading in with the cavernous echo chamber meditations of "Mitchell's Fold" before slipping into the slightly more energised "Fontaine Bleau." "Swelted" graces the B side with the most upfront set of drums on the record, while maintaining the shimmering elegance of the dub chords that permeate the other two tracks.

The True Story Of House Music (Unreleased Thrie Way mix) (6:55)
I'm So Alone (Unreleased dub mix) (5:19)
Review: Having already documented the Burrell Brothers story this year, Rush Hour have announced details of another retrospective look at a key figure of the formative New York house music scene in Elbee Bad, the self professed Prince Of Dance Music. A forthcoming compilation is due that documents the late 80s and early 90s output of Elbee Bad, aka Lamont Booker, a producer still active today and now residing in Berlin. The compilation takes its title from the Nu Groove 12" that Booker released early in his career and this vinyl sampler features "New Age Of House" along with two previously unreleased mixes that will apparently not appear in any other format. All three tracks are essential listening for anyone with a keen interest in rough and rugged house music from days gone by, and the 12" comes in authentic label art and A6 card insert.

The Wiz Is A Genius
Review: Typically for Rush Hour, their recent Elbee Bad retrospective project uncovered more material than they could fit on one compilation, though this addendum 12" does come with a neat conceptual slant to it that merits separation. Entitled More True Stories Of House Music, the four tracks showcase Lamont Booker's work alongside vocalists and fellow producers, with lead track "Show Me" by House Of Fire dominated by Lisa Angel's classic house vocal delivery (Booker's slightly deranged keys also make themselves known too). More than anything, this quartet of productions nails Booker's production diversity as well as further demonstrating his mastery of that distinct early New York house sound. This is perhaps best demonstrated on "The Wiz & The Genius", a 1989 cut as part of The Wizard & The Genius alongside the wonderfully monikered Cutwizard Albee which sounds mind bendingly ahead of the curve.

Gerideau, Jose Burgos, Taka Boom - "Bring It Back To Love" (Joey Negro mix) (6:09)
Review: This tidy collection of deep house remixes brings together a whole host of heavyweight names with some sunkissed vibes to get the outdoor party season started early. Cesaria Evora's "Nho" gets the treatment from none other than the mighty Kerri Chandler, who gives the Latin vibes a subtle bump and some sumptuous strings. DJ Spen and Karizma take things more straight up as they tackle Loverush's "Dancin", rolling out a silky smooth deep house version. Vincent Inc's "Walking On The Disco Street" appears in its original, heavy-funking form, and then Joey Negro's mix of "Bring It Back To Love" pushes into the upper reaches of peppy disco house with pattering bongos and gorgeous Rhodes keys aplenty underneath the life affirming vocal.

Get Down (Bayacou mix - Atjazz tweak) (6:44)
Review: Ezel's Dominican roots shine brightly in his personal strain of house music, and while the producer hasn't released a great deal of EPs since his debut back in 2008, he has produced an impressive amount of remixes, many of them for established artists like Osunlade and Deetron. Here he is on the unstoppable Local Talk with the sweet and sensual "Get Down", a tune that would definitely be roofed under the classic 'soulful' sound due to its sleek groove and heartfelt vocals. On the B-side, Ezel himself remixes the tune by stripping the lyrics down and working the groove into a more fast and humble sort of house framework, and Bayacou's version adds a fine layer of extra melodies to the mix that make this cut a pleasure to mix into just about anything.

This label never disappoints on the dancefloor, and this EP is no exception. Mario Fabriani knocking it right out of the park on the leadoff techy jacker "Jerky Jackin".
