Review: The Shot of T label serves up a versatile new split EP with CV Smiles kicking things off. A long, drawn-out and emotive synth opens up on 'Home-schooled' and comes layered with bubbly pads and serve effects that soothe the mind. Then comes a rap mix that is detailed with louche bars and more 909 production to make it pop. On the flip side, the masterful Porn Sword Tobacco flips the script with a gurgling, pulsing, deep and linear techno roller in the form of 'Techno Story' which is perfect for late-night sessions.

Review: UK producer Calum Lee aka Paleman has just about made all styles of electronic music in his crater. He is a jazz drummer at heart and the freeform invention defines much of what he does. Here the 30D sub-label EyesHave It snaps him up for his latest trips into the unknown corners of the dance floor. He made the music specifically for the label and really stretches himself - 'Exalted' is a twisted rhythm with groaning leads and dark atmospheres. '25mg' is a frosty world of brushed metal and scuffed synths then 'Titan Siren' brings more expertly designed breakbeats that tumble freely as watery droplets fall from above. Two further cuts shut down this more forward-thinking of EPs.

Review: Perko is one of those newer-school experimental artists whose fingers straddle many pies, but who nevertheless refuses to allow this inner tendency towards versatility to hold him back. The FELT label owner has welcomed artists as far-flung as Civilistjavel! to Moxie into his inner circle; and the fruits of this open-mindedness are more than translated into his latest EP for Glaswegian dance legends Numbers. 'Prang' errs on the side of playfulness, giving some hot seconds of pure danceable flavour. Huerco S lends his usually-texturally-rich addprod to the nominal A-sider, a rather impressive future-garage-acid cut that recalls some of Objekt's earlier stuff, while regular collaborator and mournful vocalist-producer Cucina Povera crops up on the ambient dub plunger-into-the-sound that is 'Sisu'.

Review: Mannequin mainstay Mushy serves further notice of her clear talents with the unveiling of a new alias in Phantom Love on this eponymously titled 12" for the Rome based minimal synth label. The four tracks here have Mushy funnelling her love of everything from John Carpenter to Klaus Schulze through "a spectral yet dreamy haze of spacey psychedelia." The Carpenter influence is clear on opening 10 minute opus "Lotus" through the heavily delayed synths that chime with chilling effect throughout but this if far from mere pastiche, there's a definite fuzzy hue to what Mushy is doing here that truly captivates. "Odean Columns" begins in more contemplative fashion with the hazy mists of the opening minutes dissipating to let the arcane canvas of synths flourish. On the flip "Psychic June" growls with proto techno menace, whilst "Tropical Illness" nosedives into cavernous chamber Kosmiche. Really quite stunning!

Review: Soft Focus invites you into a world where ambient calm meets dub-infused momentum. The opener, 'noomi,' drifts in like a distant memory, its restrained percussion and shimmering synth tones evoking both serenity and longing. Then comes 'pluck (feat. Richard),' a piece that feels more tactile, its intricate melodies threaded through a deep, pulsing bassline. On the second side, 'never hit the bottom' moves with greater urgency, its rhythmic core swaying between hypnotic repetition and subtle dissonance. By the time 'lick' closes the record, its dub echoes and tactile textures have fully enveloped you, leaving a lingering impression of quiet introspection.

Review: On their latest deep dive into the archives, Re:discovery Records has dipped into the vaults of techno producer Dietrich Schonemann, serving up selected tracks from two projects active between 1993 and '95: Portotype 909 (a trio that also included Jason Szostek and Taylor Deupree) and Facil (a collaboration with Abe Duque). Two tracks from the latter take pride of place on side A: the sparse, creepy, sub-heavy, ambient techno-goes-electro shuffle of 'Tree Frog' and the gorgeously sparkling, slow-motion IDM dreaminess of '700x7'. Prototype 909 is celebrated on side B, with the dreamy deep space chords, bustling breakbeats and psychedelic acid lines of 'Transit' being followed by the pitched-down TB-303 chug of 'Planet S' and the intergalactic IDM laziness of 'Same Place'.

Review: Re:discovery records are a 'chillout' techno label committed to reissuing lost gems from the 1990s and repackaging them for the modern listener. Their sound is downtempo and minimal, usually opting for more experimental post-EBMmy takes on the techno and electro sound. Emblematic of their focus is this new rerelease from Prototype 909 and Facil, 'Excerpts From 1993-1995', which slows many stock techno components down to a snail's pace; '700x7', for example, brings balearic moods to an otherwise bass-heavy kick-centric beat skeleton, the latter of which could otherwise have only come from the post-industrial bassweight that techno brought. 'Transit', meanwhile, is a pinnacle of acid trance. We advise you listen.

Review: Chicago trio Purelink lands on the Naff label with a fresh EP that features two new cuts alongside two that were released as a digital-only EP in 2021. They are 'Maintain the Bliss' and 'Head On A Swivel' on the B-side - the first is a sublime and widescreen ambient excursion with smeared pad work and subtly uplifting moods, and the second is a skeletal ambient jungle track with skittish rhythms. The originals are 'Earth To' which is a crystalline cut with blissed-out breaks and fluttering melodies and 'Not That Deep' is a broody world of cavernous atmospheres and liquid pads. Another gem from this assured outfit.

Review: Andrea Porcu's ROHS! label has been a long time fixture in the ambient field, from net label origins to limited CDr and vinyl releases from a host of respected underground operators. This latest release, two years in the making, features two original tracks from PURL. These sublime ambient pieces, "Slow Poem" and "Cellar Door," move in slow, atmospheric ripples of submerged rhythm and glacial melodics, giving plenty of space for inventive remixes from Segue, Wanderwelle and many more. It's a perfect double pack of dreamy drifters for the chill-out room crowd to sink into.

Review: Enigmatic collective PVAS return to Isla Canada with an exploration of the idea of gut instinct - 'Somaesthesia'. As always, the vibe is offkey, freeform and buried in equal measures of low end and tension. The title track sets a woozy scene with a smothering, bewitching atmosphere before things build up in a variety of strange ways... 'Dream Resumption' starts as a techno wriggler before taking a u-turn into breakbeat territory, 'Schlesi Boat' is a voyage into the vortex while 'Visitation' closes on an ocean of fractures. Beguiling.

Review: Martin Jenkins aka Pye Corner Audio kept existing fans happy and won over many more new ones with his Let's Emerge! album in summer. As it often the way it now gets remixed with a Sonic Boom twist. The three cuts are all fresh and original fusion of cold wave and synth with analogue textures and enveloping sub bass, heady sound designs that make you wonder how and plenty more besides. 'Haze Loops', 'Saturation Point' and 'Warmth Of The Sun' are all classics in the making.

Review: LILA has got five or six albums of artful ambient dropping all in quick succession and this is a third from Ludvig Cimbrelius, who has dropped one under his Eternell alias, one as Abraco de Vapor, and one under this, his oldest moniker, Purl. He also works as Illuvia and with all his projects he has mastered the art of sonic daydreaming and musical journeying. Ancient Skies is a record packed with a more intense, textural, heavy style of ambient that builds tensions and in some places has subtle implied rhythms. It makes for an involving listen that is much more than simple background music.

Review: Those renegades at Ilian Tape are back once again with another forward-thinking album of fresh and potent techno, this time from Packed Rich. His long player "depicts the journey of an individual traveling through a field of energy that connects different locations in space," we're told, and along the way, it warps space and time to leave you spellbound. Punchy broken beat drum programming, hyper-real synth lines and cosmic colours all bring this record to life. It's a psychedelic mix that sometimes sounds like an MPC jam amongst the stars, at others like you're in freefall through the cosmos and sometimes laid back, stoned as can be gazing off into the heavens. Lush.

Review: There's a crazy story behind this new release from the killer Antinote crew out of Paris. Paki-Visnadi is two Venetian musicians, Paki Zennaro and Gianni Visnadi, a guitarist and electronic composer respectively who got together one night in 1984 to compose a set of music intended for local dance schools. The results were recorded to tape but never fully released with just ten copies handed out to friends. If it wasn't for a chance flea market discovery by the partner of Antinote artist and famed tape hoarder Iueke, it's likely the world would never have heard Imaginary Choreography. And what a shame that would have been as the five tracks are delightful, minimal compositions filled with interesting rhythmic kinks.

Review: Even by contemporary crate digging standards, Imaginary Choreography is ridiculously obscure. It began life as a self-released cassette in 1984, and was created as an accompaniment to "study and exercise" at Italian dance schools. It was recently re-discovered in a Parisian flea market by one of the Antinote family, and here is presented on CD for the first time following a vinyl release earlier this summer. Heavily based around rolling, hypnotic electronic rhythms and synthesizer melodies, the album's six tracks variously touch on new age ambience ("Waterlight"), shuffling proto-Balearica ("Parallel Waves"), curious electronica ("Mollusk Dance"), and new age-influenced proto-techno ("In A Dark Run"). Amazingly, it still sounds remarkably fresh and futuristic, despite its' obscure roots and the cheapness of its' original production.
