Review: Wasia Project are a South Croydon-raised sibling duo - Olivia Hardy (vocals, guitar) and William Gao (keyboards, piano, vocals) - who strike a nice balance in sharing the limelight. This is only their second EP but you can tell they're going to be massive. They've already toured in support of Tom Odell and Laufey and they clearly have the quality to go the distance. 'Somebody Come Through' is as good as anything Sharon Van Etten has released. 'Track 6' brings back memories of listening to Beach House and 'To Get Better' is reminiscent of Matt Maltese. Underneath all the indie references there's a really strong classical training and we hear that on the closing track, with a masterful piano crescendo dimming the lights, but leaving us wanting for more.

Review: Fronted by Dane-dame Sannie Carlson, Whigfield was backed by various producers and engineers over the years, main among whom was the towering Larry Pignagnoli. *The* song to commemorate Whigfield by, 'Saturday Night' is a Europop and Eurodance trailblazer, harking back, perhaps, to a more glamorous time, where fashion designers rubbed shoulders with models, PR girls and riviera DJs for Italian and Danish upper crusts. Carlson would record 'Saturday Night' after meeting fellow DJ Davide Riva, who was also part of a music production duo. In three days, an (in your mind-) sticky, bubblegum-popping opus would be written, with a nursery-rhyming refrain and a jaunty na-na-na hook epitomising the notion of a "hair-dryer song", a term coined by Simon Cowell in reference to the song as a precursor to Rebecca Black's 'Friday': "the kind of song girls sing into their hair dryers before getting ready to go out."

Review: First released on streaming platforms last summer, Wilco's 'Hot Sun Cool Shroud' EP was uniformly praised by critics. Much more than a stop gap between albums (it arrived roughly 12 months after the outfit's lauded 13th studio full-length, Cousin), the six-track set bristles with inventiveness while flitting between styles and tempos. So, opener 'Hot Sun', a sticky slab of Americana-tinged jangly indie brilliance, is followed by the reverb and solo-laden alt-rock squall of 'Livid' and the gentle, string-laden swoon of 'Ice Cream'. Review: Life changed dramatically for The War On Drugs when they released Lost In The Dream in 2014. It was the Philadelphia band's big, breakthrough record, taking the band all over the world and to some of the biggest stages. Since then, their stock has only continued to rise and they've become one of the most beloved rock bands in the world. This live album was recorded on tour between February 2022 through December 2023 in America, UK, Europe and Australia. Intro 'Harmonia's Dream' is their answer to The Who's 'Baba O'Riley' and you can hear the ecstasy running the crowd. 'Come To The City' is one of band leader Adam Granduciel's best ever vocal takes. Unbelievably powerful and peerless. No War On Drugs set would be complete without 'Under The Pressure' and the ten minute-plus version here is a representation of how far they've come - not only in terms of popularity, but in terms of quality as a band. They've not rested on their laurels they've just got better and better.

Review: Plucking themselves and their strings out of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Watchhouse has its foundations in Mandolin Orange, and the duo - songwriter Andrew Marlin (vocals, mandolin, guitar, banjo) and Emily Frantz (vocals, violin, guitar) - haven't necessarily changed since the name switch. A married couple, there's always been this beautiful intimacy in their music, which is often tender, if not strictly quiet. Eight studio albums in and most of the reasons we fell for this Americana-folk-country outfit remain front and centre. The musicianship, at times, is nothing short of spectacular. Check the chord work on 'In The Sun'. The lyrics are capable of stopping you dead, forcing contemplation and reflection. And the overall atmosphere is like the feeling you have after stepping off a train back home. Slow down, re-familiarise, and pay some attention to the subtle things.

Review: It's a pity that Marc Riley is less regular than he once was on BBC 6 Music because the ex-Fall member has phenomenal taste and raw passion that makes you too want to love music as much as he does. A staunch champion of the beloved Leeds indie rockers The Wedding Present, these eight tracks are taken from two sessions that David Gedge and co. laid down in 2019 and 2023. There's a wellspring of riches here from the 1985-formed band. From the relentless Sonic Youth-esque guitar-led number 'Don't Give Up Without A Fight, to their cover of Low's 'Canada' and Magazine's 'A Song From Under The Floorboards - it's stacked with bangers. Perhaps the John Peel of modern times, Riley's archive is endlessly inspirational - and his love of The Wedding Present entirely relatable.
