Review: Less Music release this EP from highly regarded Canadian producer Egyptrixx, featuring collaborations with indie outfit Ohbijou and visual artists Datdatdat and Seripop. The two track EP has been pressed up on limited 10? vinyl, with Montreal-based design collective Seripop providing the delectable artwork. A-Side track "Old Black" is a cover of drone pioneers Earth, with Egyptrixx taking the glacial guitars and mournful cello of the original and dousing it in an altogether denser, more electronic sheen. Ohbijou adds some vocal layers, and we recommend you check the woozy accompanying video directed by Berlin-based studio Datdatdat (who also provided the clip for Egyptrixx's "Start from the Beginning"). On the flip, "Hiawath" is initially a more raucous affair, with tearing synths and clipped beats, before it drops back into a deeply atmospheric, ethereal outro. Recommended.

Review: Artwork of the week goes to Blind Jack's Journey and this Polar Nip 10" from Error 404 and Oddnip!! Oh yes and the music is pretty damn great too as you'd expect from the perennially on point and perennially sold out Yorkshire label. Up top, the unheralded Error 404 delivers a slab of slow burning acid that bumps and fizzes in all the right places for over seven minutes - a bit like a pitched down Funkineven track and a nice cut for when you want to add a bit of drama to the early hours of a clubnight. Down below and Blind Jack's graduate Errornipp comes through with a delicious slab of beatdown house with plenty of neat interplay between those fat kickdrums and those grooving melodies.

Review: Originally recorded in 1983, O Yuki Conjugate's Untitled EP is a dream record for Emotional Rescue. It's startlingly ahead of its time, featuring stiff drum machine beats, strange sampling and fuzzy, lo-fi synth work, shot through with the wonk of post punk that makes so much early electronic music of the era so captivating. "Beyond Control" has an almost motorik feel to it, with plenty of liquid delay processing and woozy tones melting around the march of the beat. "Disco Song" channels the dubbed out spirit of The Pop Group and gives it a plastic organ makeover, while "Clattering Song" lives up to its name and falls apart in your ears. "Beyond Control 2" completes the package with a wild line in reverse effects by way of a thoroughly primitive remix.

Review: Masterworks Music returns with The Masters Series: their illustrious 10" vinyl-only brand. On this fourth instalment is some 'cracking' tackle for any modern disco head... sure to blaze up the night!' courtesy of Obas Nenor. The Tel Aviv based producer has appeared previously on Defected, Heist Recordings Strictly Rhythm, Mahogany Music and his own label, Nenorian. Now unleashing his 'weirdo disco' style where he packs his studio creations within a tidy, 10" format on a double-header with "Candies" on the A-side: which is a cheeky little boogie down jam on the deeper tip. Has more cowbells and vocoders than you can shake a Telex record at. Holding down the B-side is the well funky "Stay" with its chunky Moog bassline leading a tight, sun-kissed groove that will be sure to get any serious Disco Stu working up a sweat on the dancefloor in no time.

Review: Antonio Ocasio is a spiritual house veteran truly embedded in the story of NYC house music since he minted the Tribal Winds label in 1998. There were a few years where things went quiet, but Ocasio has been back in action in 2023 and swiftly following up the Soulciety Music Series release with this stunning 12". On the A-side we get Sugah Lyrics offering her hushed, poetic vocal tones amidst the rolling percussion and dreamlike synth work of 'Sacred Tones'. The flip takes a different path as a mellow, soulful composition lays the groundwork for Nina Hadz Antich's sweet singing on 'That Something', once again affirming Ocasio's gifts as a songwriter and producer as well as an NYC deep house staple.

Review: Oceanvs Orientalis and Ilhan Ersahin first entered each other's orbits by chance at a performance at Turkey's Cappadox Festival in 2018. Orientalis is renowned for his fusion of Eastern musical motifs and traditions with cutting-edge electronica, while Ilhan Ersahin has long plowed a unique path uniting assorted musical strains from around the world via an exploratory jazz-improv sensibility. Following two tracks ('Mesta' and 'Pire') co-written by Ilhan and OvO and released as collaborations, as well as two more Ersahin / OvO co-writes ('Revenge Of The Wankers' and 'Television') released under OvO's name alone, a fresh and exciting new song, '1980', now heralds a full-length collaboration slated to land in Spring 2024. The track's title hints at a certain nostalgic bent, all while still keeping its gaze firmly fixed on the future as it evokes sun-drenched, bygone good times. The 10" edition adds several extra versions, one of which spotlights the multi-instrumental mastery of Darkside's Dave Harrington, and the other the mesmerizing vocal stylings of Gaye Su Akyol.

Review: Making his first appearance on Marc Romboy's Systematic imprint, Dicken 'OCH' Lean throws down some ineffably weighty dub techno that does well to avoid the horizontal trappings of the genre and instead keeps the energy up with a rugged rhythmic structure out in front. The dubby textures themselves on "Work Da Groove" and "Destroying Angle" are also tweaked for greater impact, dressed like industrial ghosts just as they move like German dancers. The latter is the more militant of the two, while "Work Da Groove" makes the most of a warm lead synth line to shed some light on the situation.

Review: Having scored releases on a staggering amount of top-shelf European house and techno labels, Och makes his second visit to Systematic to follow up on the Force Mass Control EP that he dropped in the not too distant past.
