Review: Akira Arasawa opens up with psychedelic Balearic house on 'Panorama New Touch' while OR's 'Hammock Beats' is glitchy and low-slung downtempo. On the flip is the nine-minute head melter 'Liquidanz' with its rippling synth modulations and Hutte Sound System close down with the dreamy end of the night soother 'Fire Fly'. Thsi mproject sees Especial Specials joining forces ed up with Chillmountain Recordings - a label from Osaka, Japan - on a series of new EPs, this being the first of hopefully many. Berlin's Subtil label serves up a third and final EP of the year here and goes for a varied and vital various artists affair. Blacksketch kicks off with an inwardly reflective bit of ambient, then Andrei Ciubuc sinks us into a deep and dubbed out world of atmospheric mysticism on '9877654321'. Tripmastaz Enterprises then suspend you in mid air with some wispy cosmic melodies and Pirvu offers a beautiful bit of Balearic bliss that has you laying horizontal and gazing off to some distant stars. Martin Glowacz's gentle synth modulations further soothe the mind, body and soul and last of all Togue offers 'Miroir', a beatless and cinematic closer.

Review: Freshly-formed French trio BOA - aka Behzad, Ohes and Amarou - wrap themselves around the new decade and squeeze tightly. Joining forces with decorated French musician Mathieu Deranlot, they present four far-ranging deep electronic and ambient techno explorations that range from the dramatic-yet-beatless "Nitro" to the brooding, swampy slo-mo electrofunk of "Lumiere Electronique". Elsewhere "Merci Pierre" teases and squeezes even tighter with its trippy triplets and sudden dive into deep dream synths before "Bonne Nuit" closes on another ambient tip, this time switching the urgency for lullaby arpeggios. Sweet dreams.

Review: The EBO label returns with Seaside Edits don Jean Claude Gavri sharing sides on a 12" with Italian contemporary Moplen that's slightly too vitamin D-infused in tone for the Winter months but will nice up any left leaning discotheque. Any self respecting disco scholar should have no issues IDing the source material here, Gavri taking on the Carly Simon classic "Why" and adding subtle Caribbean disco vibes to proceedings and occasionally dipping into the filters on this extended groove rendition. On the flip "The Riddum Slave" sees Luca Locatelli work similar magic, filling the Grace Jones cut of the near same name with all manner of dub fx, neat loops and hot breaks.

Review: Be Strong Be Free debuts a new series here, Mellow Magic Worldwide, which will offer up a series of DJ weapons that have been produced by "worldwide studio buds." The first one opens with some superb tackle from Gold Suite whose brilliant 'Crush' is a slow-burning 80s jam and emotive rollercoaster that has made a real impact during road testing experiments. On the flipside is the mysterious Mancunian Visions Of Eden who debuts on vinyl with a lush deep house jam 'When It Has Past that has a subtle Balearic charm. Lastly comes Murrin who heads up the Puca Sounds label and co-runs Berlin party Fandango. His 'Maybe Tonight' is a late-night cosmic delight.

Here, on the sublime 'Submerge Me', they are in fine form once more with a brooding sound that features the uniquely mesmerising mantras of Beale and plenty of raw, compelling and percussive grooves that full lock you in and get you going. Review: Be Strong Be Free's 7" series is on fire this year and now comes back with a third instalment. It is 'Nuit De Fievre' and it comes from label owner Gratts, aka the "Belgian down under," who revisits disco's golden era by assembling a stellar studio team starring the Moody Mae band in the company of Reinhard Vanbergen on violin and Jaj from Paris on vocals. What they cook up in return is elegant boogie and disco that will chime well with fans of Dimitri From Paris. The B-side features Pellegrino's jazz-funk rendition, adding Mediterranean flair straight from Vesuvius. Both sides promise deliciously uplifting grooves for any disco enthusiast.

Review: The Frosted label is back with more brilliance from Inland Knights in the form of this newly remastered version of the classic 'Figure It Out.' It was first put out back in 2013 as the first release on the label and remains a vital tune from the British pair. On the flip, Mark Farina is one of those hallowed producers who always has his own unique sonic signature, most famously under his Mushroom Jazz alias. His edit brings plenty of depth and broken beat lushness with noodling guitar riffs and spoken words making it a backroom gem.

Review: Having just reissued the wonderful "Jumpcut" album from overlooked mid '80s dreamers Man Jumping, Emotional Rescue offer up some tasteful remixes to build on the rediscovered delights of the original material. Who better than label regulars Khidja to bring their innate instinct for outernational funk to the table. Taking the ranging, mystical idea mood of the originals, the Romanian duo lead in with a laid back, subtly dubbed out island chiller on "Walk On, Bye". Be prepared for a switch up though, as "Down The Locale" weaves in some nimble piano work around a more pronounced rhythm section.

London-based New Zealander is having a great old time of it right now. He's dropped great EPs on Semi Delicious, Slam City Jams and contributed to a great VA on Alzaya, all in this year alone. He's back now with another belter for Planet Trip. He shows a tender side to start with the lovely sun-down analog funk of 'Shoreline' while 'Late Drives' is another hazy funk heater from the streets of LA and 'Porno Balearica' is exactly as it should be with that title - romantic, loved up, smoochy. There is then the pinging cowbells and classic deep house of 'In The Post' and 'Full Pints, Full Hearts'. This might be his best of the year.

Review: Mar De Novo is a mainstay of the Vinyl Only label which is now almost up to release number 20. As always these are magnificent beats that blend great invention with a healthy respect for disco days gone by and they are all made in what must be a studio jam-packed with analogue gear from all across the ages. 'Instant Humidity' has plenty of characterful synth details that are freaky and playful, 'Call Me' pairs stepping disco beats with super sweet vocals and 'Paraggi' is a blissed-out seaside gem. 'Progression' heady back to the club with strobe-lit disco arps, 'Get A Way' pairs plunging basslines with cosmic keys and another great vocal and 'Quiet Down' rounds out with another horizontal downbeat disco gem.

Review: The Vinyl Only label rolls on towards its 20th release here with Mar De Novo serving up the irresistible Apericena EP. 'Quantity Check' is a low-slung funker with noodling baselines and nice loose percussive rhythms under some exotic vocals. 'Blue Eyes Clear' is a more lavish and downtempo number of chilling by the Med come sundown and then comes Ryu's Rub of 'Quantity Check' which is more funky and fat-bottomed. 'Nao Fazer Nado' rounds out an escapist EP with some dreamy melodic chill-out sounds that will have you gazing off to the stars.

Review: The hypnotic folk music of Ainu a cappella group Marewrew gets its first remix treatment here from Pingipung artists featuring Andi Otto and M.RUX. Andi Otto, who curated Marewrew's album for Pingipung, selected tracks for the Ukouk LP and offers a remix of 'Sikata Kuykuy.' His version begins with a persistent piano beat that is complemented by bass clarinets played by Pingipung co-founder Heiko Gogolin, marking his debut on the instrument. M.RUX's remix of 'Etukuma Kara' is playful and groovy as it blends various elements with his own percussion.

Review: It's nice to see Futureboogie Recordings expanding their repertoire. Here, they welcome old pal Mark Evetts to the roster, with the Birmingham-born producer delivering a pleasingly intoxicating trio of tracks. A-side "Activity" picks up where his recent Product of Industry LP left off, with waves of analogue style synthesizers, Balearic chords and sparse melodies riding a chugging, arpeggio-heavy groove. "Night Heart" recalls Evetts' work on the E-Versions series, adding moody synths to a groove created from samples of Wings' end-of-night dub disco classic "Goodnight Tonight". Finally, "Shapes" sits somewhere between deep house chug and Balearic disco charm, with Evetts usual loops slowly building towards a spine-tingling climax.

This 20th serving is made up of big room but classy disco and house heaters with plenty of strong Italo influences. 'Hypnotizing A Kookaburra' (Italo mix) opens in widescreen fashion with high energy synths and drums, then the Mood Mix gets more hippie-fide, with new age melodies and tumbling hadn't drums taking it back to go forwards. 'East Of Canada' closes with a warped and synth heavy funk-house sound that is super stylish.

Review: Given their famously slow work rate, Massive Attack have been relatively prolific of late. This is their third 12" of the year, following the collaboration-heavy Ritual Spirit E.P (which featured, amongst others, estranged former band member Tricky), and the limited edition Dear Friend. The two tracks showcased here also feature guests. Hope Sandoval joins 3-D and Daddy G on A-side "The Spoils", adding her evocative, fragile vocals - think Liz Fraser on "Teardrop" - to the Bristolian duo's lusciously orchestrated trip-hop backing track. On the flip, things get altogether darker, as Ghostpoet narrates us through another of the pair's paranoid, late night moments. It's arguably the stronger of the two tracks, which is saying something given the overall quality on display.

Review: Mathieu Rossignelly and his accomplished trio join the German label Poly Dance with a lush new two tracker. They take care of the a-side with 'La Cadence Magique'. It is super classy, John Coltrane style jazz number that fills you with summery spirit and McCoy Tyner style vibes. On the flip. Androo steps up with a delightful dub that is his subtle ode to dancehall with slippery drums, warming bass and gentle pan-pipes. It's a real Balearic gem that will heat up any early evening floors.
