Raffaele Attanasio - "Straight Walking"
Markantonio - "No Matter"
Mattia Trani - "Dogtown"
ZIPPO - "Sparkas"
Manuel Di Martino - "Barona"
MUTE8 - "Kokoro"
Review: This bumper 12" covers plenty of thrilling techno ground in a variety of different ways. Raffaele Attanasio goes for the jugular from the off with steely, tightly packed drums and synth surges that electrify the groove. Markantonio brings layers of wailing diva emotion to his 90s-sounding drum funk and Mattia Trani offers the unrelenting warehouse density of 'Dogtown'. Elsewhere there are more lithe and funky cuts from ZIPPO and a synth-washed roller from MUTE8. All of these are high-impact sounds for the peak time.

Mike Clark & Marcus Harris - "Hey"
Santonio Echols - "Piano In The Light" (Emanuell Echols mix)
Brian Kage - "This Saturday Night"
Ryan Sadorus - "Down Below"
Review: Upstairs Asylum is kicking off the year in some style with a couple of killer new EPs. This one is the first in what is presumably a new series to showcase the talents of the Motor City. Mike Clark & Marcus Harris get things underway with 'Hey' which has a subtly uplifting feel thanks to the bright, sustained chords and cuddly drums. Santonio Echols's 'Piano In The Light' (DJ Emanuell Echols mix) is laidback, playful deep house with magical chord work and Brian Kage brings his classy depths to the smooth grooves of 'This Saturday Night.' Ryan Sadorus brings things to a close with the smoky 'Down Below.'

Ruckus (4:47)
Jodey Kendrik - "Thanx" (5:56)
Gavin Masih - "Unknown Track 1" (6:55)
Monika Subrtova - "Alata" (7:08)
Review: Furthur Electronix's first two Furthur Journeys Into compilations tune plenty of heads and shift plenty of copies. The third one keeps the quality levels high with more explorations around the periphery of underground electronics. Chris Coco opens with a soothing synth sound before Jake Slazenger brings crystalline synths and abstract modulations to the mid-tempo '168B.' There is more pace and twisted acid energy to Global Goon's untitled contribution and then old school jungle comes to the fore on the super stylish and atmospheric Gavin Masih cut. Monika Subrtova's 'Alata' is a serene and widescreen ambient synthscape that brings things to a suitably poignant close.

Interphaze - "Bullseye"
Giorgio & Andreas - "Psycho"
Marcelino Sanchez - "Motive One"
Review: Shout out to Greek powerhouse Kinesthetik Recordings for making it all the way to a half a century of releases there. They celebrate in the best way they know - with more tranced-out sounds from artists in their orbit. Giorgio & Andreas open things up with 'Nice One' and its thudding tech drums and cosmic synth lines. Diskinesia gets much more raw and moody with the edgy drums of 'Back & Forth' and Interphase then drops a pair of industrial tech thumpers. Giorgio & Andreas reappear with a raw, roughshod and deep groove and Marcelino Sanchez's 'Motive One' offers dub techno to close.

Review: The legendary Lagoa club in Menin is a real techno institution that this year marks its 34th anniversary. It does so in part by dropping LAGOA TRAX Vol. 1, an exclusive vinyl compilation featuring four unreleased tracks by its famous resident DJs Manu Kenton, DJ HS, Jamie Dill and Max Walder. These celebrated artists honour Lagoa's spirit with compositions that echo the club's distinctive style-driving beats and electrifying sounds. Each track embodies the energy and legacy of Lagoa's unforgettable nights and gives fans a chance to reconnect with the intense rhythms that have defined the club's reputation.

Review: After releasing some non-club music on his own label The Yellow Zone, Lenny Mailleau steps into the dancefloor world with his first solo record for High Ends France. Known for his work as Zendid on High Ends, he returns to the French label with three tracks that mix up dubby house and techno. This release marks a new chapter in Mailleau's journey and showcases his versatility and skill in crafting infectious rhythms designed to move a crowd. 'Intense City' is a dubby one with lithe synths, 'Papiers Ciseaux' is icy and abstract dub and 'GGG' brings a melancholic and percussive touch.

Fly Or Die (6:14)
Review: Having made his Opia bow in 2018 on the label's second release - where he shared vinyl space with Steve Marie - it has taken Luis Malon a fair old while to return to the London-based imprint's loving embrace. The good news, though, is that he's delivered a genuinely memorable, melodically bold and pleasingly imaginative collection of cuts. Compare and contrast, for example, the spacey, percussive and far-sighted tech-house bounce of opener 'Des Antenna', and the cut that follows, the bleep-and-bass-meets-intergalactic-deep-house loveliness of 'Nines'. Over on the flip, he does a bit of sci-fi soundtrack daydreaming on the cheery melodies-meets-dark bass excellence of 'Travelling Across', before wrapping fizzing, mind-mangling electronics and twisted acid lines around a crunchy breakbeat on 'Fly Or Die'. Impressive!

Review: Milan-based 'multi-disciplinary' project Opal looks to countryman Marco Maggi, aka Mama, for a new techno investigation that finds the producer heading into new territory. There is still a real focus on the dance floor here but rich sound designs make these tunes more than just functional fodder. 'Demo35' has a nice rugged and loopy rhythm which is paced well and marked with spooky synths. 'Demo39' is more snappy with alien motifs bringing the beats and swollen bass notes to life. 'Demo29' keeps the deep rhythm going, this time with some bright back-lit synth glows and 'Demo21' shuts down with a more physical broken beat and late night urban intrigue.

Review: MarcelDune returns with a fierce new outing on Intrepid Skin. Based in London and rooted in Athens, MarcelDune's musical DNA spans jazz, opera and punk DIY so he is known for creating a sound that champions resistance, authenticity and liberation. This release embodies that ethos with euphoric energy, heavy drums and unrestrained fun all butting out of the beats. The title track opens with serrated industrial grooves, while 'Remedy for Evil' brings bouncy, relentless rhythm. 'Tell Me Who They Are' features ricocheting vocal chops and angular percussion and 'Romantic and Other Fantasies' closes with pounding beats and a whirlwind of effects.

Review: Brazil's Marcio M shows that Latin America loves hard techno too, which is not something we necessarily knew before we heard this. His outing on Triple A is triple X rated from the off: 'Deja Vu' is a jacked-up hard techno slammer with snuggling acid lines, caustic pads and dark vocals all trapped in the relentless rhythm. 'GTFO' has undulating loops that lock you in the here and now and unleashes bright, flashy, raved-up mentasm stabs and 'Let's Go MTF' daisy it back to a more minimal but no less driving and destructive mix of drums and synths. 'The Voice' is the final guaranteed hell-raiser with its pacey drum patterns and rusty synth textures.

Review: Techno player Gary Martin was inspired by the 1963 album How to Belly Dance for Your Husband by the Sonny Lester Orchestra for this EP, which finds him transforming jazz and belly dance influences into modern techno. The release features two energetic techno bangers and one mesmerising track in 3/4 time which calls to mind his previous works like 'Casa Caugat' and 'Girlfriend.' By blending vintage inspiration with newer production techniques, he ends to his roots while never getting too fawning for what has come before.

Never Use Quantize (5:25)
Review: Fresh from serving up a superb set of off-kilter house cuts from Newcastle-based maverick Man Power, Timo Rotenen's Echocentric imprint has turned to regular Belters contributor Dominik Marz. The long-serving producer has delivered an EP of nostalgic, energy-packed delights that variously doff a cap to dance music sub-genres of the 1990s and early 2000s. For proof, check the gargantuan 'Honesty', where mind-bending noises and sharp, trance style stabs rise above stomping beats and deep, sub-heavy, bleep & bass style low-end pressure. Similarly excitable and mind-altering is EP-opening slammer 'Honesty'. Elsewhere, 'Only One' sees Marz pepper a stabbing bassline and hissing house beats with raw bleeps and nostalgic samples, while 'Never Use Quantize' is pleasingly wayward - like early Chicago house crossed with NYC freestyle.

Review: Florian Meindl keeps it real on a new one for Flash that strikes right at the heart of a strobe-lit dance floor. First up is 'Side Control' which hurries along with clipped drum funk and urgent synth loops that get the heat racing and the feet marching. 'We Grow At Night' gets more frenzies with a wall of squiggling acid and demonic vocals all washing over you to psychotic effect and 'Chaos' keeps up that synapse firing sense of arrest with pixelated synths spraying about the mix. 'Kimura' allows a moment to catch your breath and sink int a drawn out and dubby techno trip before 'False Worlds' closes with more mindfuckery and smart synth craft.

Review: Merv keeps it super deep here with a trio of supremely tasteful techno cuts doused in dub culture. 'Sliver' is first and awakens the sense with some gentle rattling chords that sound like distant thunder rolling in with a storm. 'Embrace' is airy, with big kicks and frosty pads shimmering across the airwaves and crisp hi-hats cut right through. 'Strain' is last up on the flip and is an elongated journey through some sugary melodic pixelations, a frosty dubscape and hints of melancholia. All are perfect for those late-night and intimate back room sessions.

Side A starts with 'Mutella', a dark, bass-driven electro track with gothic vibes followed by 'Ei Damagea', a hypnotic, otherworldly electro journey with floating rhythms and quirky synths. Review: Mesh Convergence is an artist from South Spain and this is his debut EP. But you would not think it because these are some hi-spec and original techno sounds. 'Reflection Of You' blends prickly percussive loops with distant claps, a percolating low end and tense chord work. 'Despite Everything' has a deft rhythm that floats just above the dance floor and is run through with searching synths and 'Before It Fades' gets more deep and minimal with curious synth sounds and sparse open hi-hats held together with a rugged lead. 'Still Not Over It' is gritty, fizzy, evocative techno for large, dark warehouses.

Review: This superb EP from Metapattern, who has already impressed dn Hayes Records and MORD, is a bold reflection of his identity as an artist. It draws on classic techno but repurposes it with a contemporary edge that belies the producer's mastery of the genre's foundations at the same time as finding him pushing its boundaries. Inspired by Berlin's dark energy, these tunes are minimalistic yet deeply purposeful as they emphasise real restraint, which allows every element to really make its mark over heavy grooves.

Track 2 (10:05)
Review: German label Minimood keeps it deeper than deep each and every time. The Extra sister label steps up here with the eponymous label head in charge of two more meditative and mindful trips into the underworld of dub. 'Track 1' is perfectly unhurried, with sparse chords punctuating a deeply buried bassline and subtly implied rhythm. Whether warming up or zoning out a room, it's a doozy. The second cut ups the pace a little but still has warm, rounded edges and muffled knocks and hits over a pillow bassline and rubbery kicks that melt to nothing. It's minimal dub techno perfection, frankly.

Bristol's Daisy Moon is next up to carry the baton and is fresh off a standout house cut on Peach Discs in June. Here she opens with the precise drum rhythms and glitchy percussion of 'Eclipse' while 'Shadow Of Silhouettes' is a shimming, shape shifting arrangement with daubs of synth, frenzied lines, chopped-up vocals and plenty more all vying for your attention. 'The Abyssal Zone' then brings some dubby broken beats to the fore and 'Meadow Rap' flips the script entirely with some lush downtempo.

Review: Utrecht's MRE makes his debut on 200 Records here and in doing so shows a passion for Detroit-style techno sounds. His rhythms draw from techno and breaks and ambient also helps cloud these classic, timeless grooves. 'Corizen' opens on a deep, dubby tip with languid chords for inward reflection, 'The Upper Room' then brings some gorgeous synth work straight from the Motor City and 'Do You See The Lighthouse Yet' is a lithe mix of wispy pads and elastic rhythms that ooze class. 'Zero Three Zero' shuts down this most sophisticated EP in a melancholic fashion.

Review: Mirko Muller heads deep into the night with this new single on the German label Kontakt. 'Provenance' is a perfectly unhurried nine minutes which defies the modern way of serving up content in short, shape, attention grabbing bursts. Instead this is a deep and dubby sound with a slow, lumbering rhythm and smudged synths that provides the basis for your brain to go off an explore on its own. The Don Williams remix provides a more direct sound but it is still super deep and fluid and a final cut ice against casts you adrift in a sea of dub techno tranquility.

Review: Deus Ex Machina is a narrative device that allows an unlikely event to interrupt proceedings in order to provide a swift conclusion to a story. Notes with this EP say simply, "Unexpected intervention from the machine," and there sure is a lot of great hardware at work. 'First Act' is a deft techno sound that is on its toes and not keen to linger. 'Second Act' is a heady one with deep space synth motifs and liner beats. After his start playing in bands, the Rotterdam-based artist turned to production, and with this release, it's clear how well his experience has translated into club-ready compositions. Opening with 'Qrrom', a driving track with deep grooves and intricate rhythms, Muzmin sets the tone. 'Yucca' continues, layering hypnotic patterns over a powerful bassline. Review: Released in the first year of the pandemic, Ela Minus' first major breakthrough came in 2020, when Domino put out her debut record, Acts of Rebellion. Evidently the label was happy with the results, which saw the young Colombian electronic star carve out a corner of the global scene for herself. Five years on and we're back with the follow up. Reassuringly, everything and nothing has changed. Improvised jazz meets techno meets schoolyard Brat pop, trance, EDM and synth. Citing Kraftwerk as one of her key influences, you can also hear plenty of Daft Punk in here, and a little Charli XCX to boot. All of which might sound a little opportunistic, if she didn't radiate authenticity and already have a decade-long history of putting out futuristic and fun beats.
