Review: White Fetish X, the latest release by enigmatic collaboration between Dataintrang and Luke Eargoggle on the Italian label Pareidolia Recordings, is a hypnotic and eerie exploration of the dark side of electronica. The album's six tracks veritably pulsate with a sinister energy, blending elements of EBM, electro clash, and sci-fi to create a truly unique and unsettling soundscape. 'Starting Shift' sets the tone with its menacing EBM stomp and early techno sound, while 'Mann Gegen Mann' ups the ante with its sinister electroclash beats. The title track is a hypnotic and eerie soundscape, with its sci-fi synths and demented, horror-like atmosphere. 'Radiowelt' is a heavy electro track with a pulsing body funk rhythm, while 'Audio Warrior' closes the album out with its dark and evil-sounding but funky bassline. Overall, White Fetish X is a challenging and rewarding listen for fans of dark electronica. Its sinister soundscapes and hypnotic rhythms create a truly unique and unsettling experience that will stay with you long after the final track has faded out.

Review: Klasse Wrecks is one of the quiet workhouse sou the European underground - never really in the headlines but always there with quality, effective club sounds in a range of different styles. Cybernetik Synergy is their latest and it's a collaborative affair between Dawe and Luca Lozano that brings out the best in both. 'Data Transfer' is electrified broken beat techno with fizzing synth malfunctions, wispy stabs and fractured vocals for raw rave vibes. 'NRG' is a more stripped-back but no less edgy sound, with spare hits riding a slick broken beat and mournful pads adding atmosphere. There's a remix and further rugged techno on the filpside with 'Virtual Space'.

Review: Possession is one of the most important forces in hard techno on a global scale, let alone its home in France, so you sit up and pay attention when one of its releases drops. Here we get a turbo-charged thumper from Dax J, the hard trance touch of Fractions with 'What Doesn't Kill Me', Tred's super speedy but also super deep 'Disobediant', and something more fruity and fun from the ever-incredible LSDXOXO. Physicality remains at the forefront throughout this release, representing the vanguard of uncompromising techno in the current moment and offering up dancefloor firepower you can't argue with.

Review: A couple of years back, Music Pour La Danse released a superb anthology of works by key Belgian new beat producer Rembert De Swet, better known as Ro Maron. This 12" is meant as a kind of partner to that release and features a trio of sought-after cuts from De Swet's La Mystere collaboration with Ferre Baellen (AKA Bhab), plus a bonus acid throw-down he released as Agaric (the fantastic "Cute Acid", whose wild TB-303 lines work in perfect harmony with the producer's delicate beats and ghostly synthesizer melodies). Interestingly, both "On The Beat" and "On The Dub" are far more Balearic in feel than many De Swet projects - think chunky, laidback breakbeats, picturesque melodies and sunny chord sequences - while "Opus 303" wraps lilting, almost melancholic chords and trippy acid lines around a similarly break-driven groove.

Dub
Review: One of the leading dub related labels to emerge in recent years, Avantroots project of taking dub as a genre to its furthest and freshest perspectives, while still showing the utmost respect for the history and the figures inside it, continues with this eye-opening contribution, 'Linval Thompson Meets Avantroots'. Featuring tracks from the likes of Deepchord, Pulshar, Deepnaut, and Braulio Lam, this latest project (as the name suggests) was led by the dub legend himself, Linval Thompson, who's list of credits and those he's influenced is pages and pages in length. 'World Crisis' is Thompson's key message, running like a refrain, re-emerging throughout the EP and finding new shapes with each artist's fresh approach. Deepchord's iteration, unsurprisingly, is the deepest of the collection, encircling and hypnotic it orbits Thompson's echoed vocals to perfection. Pulshar's take offers greater lyrical clarity, keeping the surrounding production minimal and delectably slow-paced, giving room for each element to breathe. Deepnaut's version is brighter, bubbling with the plucked samples of spaced-out electric guitar and expanding synth pads. Braulio Lam's offering, the final track on the release, is a more experimental, broken groover - chopping and shifting the vocals in a collage effect, refracting Thompson's message in order for it to be seen in a new light. A fantastic release to sink into - fully immersive and richly detailed.

Review: Marcel Dettmann and boss Lucy become the latest pairing to get involved in bespoke Green Series from Bleep. Launched last year, the Green Series is an ongoing collaboration between online music store Bleep, design agency GiveUpArt and photographer Shaun Bloodworth, combining some of techno's biggest names with bespoke sleeve design and photography. Karenn, The Analogue Cops, Objekt, Cosmin TRG, Redshape and Steffi have featured on the three 12?s so far, and the next will see two equally lauded names take the mantle as the Ostgut Ton producer and Berghain resident Dettmann and Stroboscopic Artefacts boss Lucy contribute to the fourth release. Maintaining the straight up tone of the techno that preceded them, Dettmann submits a bounce heavy lesson in flawless techno in the shape of "Ride," while Lucy's contribution "Slaves' March" is 7+ minutes of pummelling rhythms and ever-building layers of tension and noise.

Review: Alongside Bedrock XX: a new compilation (and mix) of exclusive tunes celebrating the label's 20th anniversary, boss John Digweed also presents the tenth edition of his Live In series here - where he ventured to Tokyo's legendary Contact club earlier in 2018. This all nighter is one they'll still be talking about to years for come. There will be a limited edition vinyl pressing of a dozen or so of the 64 tracks featured in his complete mix (across three volumes) featuring the likes of Jimmy Van M, Pascal FEOS, Robert Babicz and many more. Part 1 features French hi-tech soul merchant Madben: whose adrenalised rendition of Molecule's "Sila" will propel you directly into the stratosphere, melodic techno expert Denis Horvat serves up "Guilty Pleasure" where the rising Danish star presents more of his highly engineered sonic futurism and label bosses John Digweed and Nick Muir appear also: with a sleek and brooding rework of Luke Brancaccio & Simon Berry's "Close Your Eyes".

Review: Earlier in the year, Bedrock chief John Digweed headed to Tokyo for a set at Contact - one of the best underground clubs in the world. The basement club has a low ceiling, minimal lighting and an incredible sound system. The set (which featured a whopping 64 tracks) captures the legend's set from start to finish: from the deep/moody opening tracks, to the peak time bangers and everything in between. The tenth edition in his 'Live In' series is released on a limited vinyl run, with a select number of tracks on wax. Disc Two here features the hyper-melodic drift of Systematic's Marc Romboy on "Asteroids", the veteran artist formerly known as Rob Acid (Robert Babicz) with some powerful futurist soul on "Space Disco" and Luke Brancaccio & Simon Berry with some tripped-out tunnel vision on "Close Your Eyes" (feat JJD).

Review: Minimal defender Len Faki makes an interesting move here with the launch of a new edits series as he seeks to re-appropriate DJ Hyperactive's techno styles into a style more compatible with today's dancefloors. First up "Wide Open" gets moulded into a lean but decisively funky workout that keeps the main melodic hook rolling throughout, and the beats coming in soft to let the sub bass do the work. Meanwhile "RX Tribe" jacks things up considerably with a bumping groove that funks up the tribal nature of the original, but make no bones about it, this is still a drum track first and foremost. Check it.
