Review: Number 5 in the series of great re-edited and reworked versions of classics from the past. Here you get two massive club tunes that will destroy any dancefloor. The A-side holds an afro disco re-edit of the end groove of "California Style" Al's edit is totally different from the original track. Extended for maximum dancefloor pleasure. The B-side is a Ripp complete rework of "Body & Soul" re-timed and re-programmed with a soft kick drum. Originally sampled by UR for "Night Of The Jaguar" this is a killer dancefloor tune for groovy or moody clubs! Also check the Rockit Music cover mix - using the drums from Earth People "Dance" with pads from Bobby Konders "The Poem" and a snippet from Q-Tip to keep the vibe flowing. Strictly for the old school heads!

Review: PPU shine the light on Leroy Ace Miller, a funk musician hailing from Macon, Georgia, which is where Otis Redding, Little Richard and James Brown all cut their teeth. The label notes Miller got his breakthrough in 1985 with Teacher, released on the indie California label Marina Sound overseen by Ron Patton. The pair would later work together with Ace Miller delivering two dusty lo fi funk cuts for the Baywest label set up by Patton in 1986. Original copies of "Hook Me/Sneak Previews" are fetching upwards of several hundred pounds on the collectors market so a round of applause to PPU for facilitating this official reissue. Miller is now apparently an attorney in Macon, but still dedicates his spare time to recording in his home studio!

Review: Taken from the recent, highly acclaimed 'Milky Disco' compilation on Lo Recordings, 'Spacer Woman' is a scintillating slab of hi-octane,
Italo space-disco. Created by Johan Agebjörn, who was responsible for all the production on Sally Shapiro's 'Disco Romance' album, the
12" includes remixes by Rude 66 and Elitechnique which take it even deeper into space and onto nu-disco dancefloors. Dutch electro
artist Rude 66, with releases on labels like Viewlexx, Bunker and Crème Organization, previously remixed Sally's hit 'I'll Be By Your Side',
receiving plenty of club play from DJs like The Hacker and Tiga. His take on this 12", titled 'Deeper Space Woman', is a slow and deep,
dubby trip which will work well as a start-up for slower DJ sets. Dutch duo Elitechnique, with releases on Clone and Radius and earlier
remixes for Black Devil Disco Club and Alden Tyrell, take the track into a nu-disco dancefloor monster called 'Outer Space Woman' with
additional backing vocals by the Dutch actress Loes. The 12" ends with a wicked sidechain dance version of a computer game track,
'Mega Man II re-mix' by Johan Agebjörn, here without Sally's vocals but with vintage 8bit sounds. Sally Shapiro's debut album 'Disco
Romance' was released in 2007 and received excellent reviews from magazines like Pitchfork Media, Vice, Der Spiegel and XLR8R. It
was recently nominated as 'electronic/dance album of the year' by U.S. Plug Awards and Sally was nominated as 'female artist of the year'.

Review: REPRESS ALERT! Stuart Leath's Emotional Rescue label is returning to the dance in a big way this Spring, with a couple of killer reissues of long forgotten Caribbean disco jams. This first one is, predictably, essential, with former Blue Beat chanteuse Lauren Aitken's 1978 disco-reggae killer "Sexy Boogie" being the centre of attention. Curiously, it was only a B-side first time around, but rightly deserves greater exposure. Aitken is in fine form singing over an undulating disco-reggae groove peppered with sweet guitars and twinkling pianos. Soft Rocks man Piers Harrison gets his scalpel out on the flip, turning original A-side "Hoochie Coochie Man" into a yearning dub disco chugger that largely dispenses with Aitken's vocals.

Review: Italian discoid act Ajello (Mantra Vibes, Relish, Maxi Discs, Radius, Mad on the Moon, Rebirth) get in the re-edit game with their very own series 'Ajello Do The Job'. This is 'Volume One'. 'Telegatto' is an instrumental edit of Heather Parisi's 'Disco Bambina'; a classic from I-F, Loud-E and all Intergalattic FM, this track was released in 1979 and was the title track to a popular saturday night television program called 'Fantastico'. The track opens on a pure Italo disco way, and it quickly morphs into a dark and surprisingly competent instrumental piece that somehow survived dating well enough to be able to be dropped into a modern house set. The 7" version is short and cheesy, but the edit is done on the very rare extended 12" version. 'Jabarra Island' is a DJ friendly version of the obscure single side 12" from Paul Jabara. The track is called 'Pleasure Island' and was released in 1978 on Casablanca records. The original tune is a pure disco symphony of more than 10 minutes, but Ajello took only the last few instrumental minutes and extended his version. 'Android Street' is an extended edit of Sauveur Mallia's 'Robot Avenue' from his rare library album 'Automation'. Sauveur Mallia is the bass player from Arpadys and Voyage, two seminal French space disco groups that have really influenced modern disco producers like Idjut Boys, Emperor Machine, Glimmers and so on.

Review: After 18 months of near silence, Ajello first started teasing us with this in September 2014. Now finally available on 12", it's every bit as sprightly, fun and funky as we'd hoped. With Prelude style synth and vocals and the duo's trademark silken production dynamics, it's well worth the wait. Remix-wise Luminodisco adds a headier 4/4 dancefloor focus, Yam Who? gets his slap bass boogie on while Rayko takes us to the stars with an epic, cosmic work out that's not dissimilar to the early work of Prins Thomas. Stunning.

Review: Under The Shade re-emerge after a period away from the spotlight (under a rock perhaps?) with their first release of 2013 helmed by the newly formed A/Jus/Ted. Comprised of veteran producer Justin Strauss and analog aficionado Teddy Stuart, or UNO artist Eddie Mars as he's more widely known, this New York pair comes with plenty of individual credentials but together as A/Jus/Ted there's an intriguing sense of the unknown. Utilising the well respected soulful intonations of Canadian vocalist Jeremy Glenn, "A Brighter Light" slots right into the effervescent melodic end of the deep house market, with a rather more upfront remix from Detroit Swindle's Lars Vegas aimed for the Ejeca and Waze & Odyssey crowd. A further rework from A/Jus/Ted - smartly named "Re A/Jus/Ted" - offers the deepest take here.

Review: Back in June, a copy of Akira Freeze's hitherto unknown single 'Tell Me Baby' appeared on an online auction site and ended up selling for well over $2,000. It sparked Athens of the North boss Euan Fryer into action, as he tracked down the rights to the record in order to reissue it. Little information exists about the record, but we can confirm that it is utterly beguiling. A-side 'Tell Me Baby' is superb, with slick, soulful lead vocals rising above squelchy synth-bass, spacey chords, luscious electronic melodies, twinkling keyboard solos and unfussy drums. Flipside 'I Remember', an even more intergalactic-sounding affair, is arguably even better, making this a very desirable 45.

Review: Swedish producer Albion Venables has been building up a formidable bank of oddball disco, boogie, wave and other groove-oriented delights on labels like Ambassador's Reception, Macadam Mambo and People Must Jam. After first appearing on the ever-excellent Bahnsteig 23 in 2016, he's back on the label with some more head-spinning obscurities from the outside tracks of synth music. "Poupee Mecanique" is a jovial French bopper, while "Balearo" cuts a more organic, reclining figure with its chugging bass plucks, laconic guitar and dreamy keys. "In Coherence" channels some funky AOR sass, and "OVNI" heads into heavy prog funk territory, rounding out a veritable wild card of a record.
