Review: This intriguing and predictably atmospheric album is the first collaborative full-length from experienced modern ambient producer Dennis Huddleston AKA 36, and Los Angeles duo Awakened Souls, whose full-length hook-up with Pepo Galan, Palettes, received plenty of praise last year. Between them the trio have conjured up a hugely evocative and emotion-rich collection of cuts, where heart-aching, slow-motion guitar laments stretch out across swelling synthesizer chords, meditative pads, distant-sounding vocal snippets, enveloping aural textures and soft-focus piano refrains. It's a wonderfully meditative and picturesque set all told, and one that could well turn out to be one of the most essential ambient albums of 2021.

Review: A Certain Ratio's core trio of drummer Donald Johnson, bassist/vocalist Jez Kerr, and multi-instrumentalist Martin Moscrop make ACR Loco a perfectly fluid and funk album. In fact, on this, their first album in more than ten years, the Manchester post-punk outfit are as funky as they have ever been. Their tried and tested sound gets nicely updated with modern beat driven sounds and plenty of redefines to today's political strife in the lyrics. There are plenty of smooth and cool synth led grooves like 'Get A Grip' and messages of unity on 'Family' that we can all relate to.

Review: Ocala, Florida's easycore heroes A Day To Remember have become legends within the scene thanks to their fearless approach and compositional knack for marrying the most saccharine of earworm melodies with heaving, venomous metallic fury; resulting in an incomparable fluid style of post-metalcore meets pop-punk. While breaking onto the scene with 2007's acclaimed For Those Who Have Heart, it was 2009's third full-length Homesick that would catapult the band to the stratosphere, casting a larger light than ever before on the myriad of underground circles that made up their sonic makeup. Arriving on a deluxe gatefold edition to commemorate the album's 15th anniversary, complete with a bonus Live In Switzerland LP plus acoustic renditions of deep cuts, this long overdue reissue seeks to remove the sizzle from the steak of so many Discogs flippers, while boasting some of the biggest ADTR bangers from the gang-vocal camaraderie of 'The Downfall Of Us All' to the seething aggression and monumental breakdown of 'Mr. Highway's Thinking About The End' all the way to the acoustic pop-punk poetics of 'If It Means A Lot To You'.

Review: Firstly, a note about the radical record label Last Night From Glasgow that this album is released through. They not only have a tasteful roster with the likes of TeenCanteen and The Anchoress among its other releases, they are non-profit and ethically driven. It's a reaction to some of the stuff they despise about the music business so well worth digging into what they do. This release, A Girl Called Eddy's debut album, produced by Richard Hawley, is a terrific addition to their catalogue. Blending jazz rock, folk and 60s Baroque pop, it's a majestic work of art, loaded with highs. 'Tears All Over Town' is atmospherically charged, with American singer Erin Moray proving her understated power. 'People Used To Dream' is similarly captivating. It feels intimate and tender, yet leans into her maximalist tendencies and her Baroque pop side truly shines. This is gorgeous stuff.

Review: Hunting High and Low, the 1985 debut album from A-ha, gets a reissue as a 6LP vinyl box set. Responsible for changing synthpop forever with their breakout 'Take On Me', the single's parent album here has been reissued numerous times, but this one aims to be the curtain call. With a whopping 64-page booklet detailing the band's origins thrown in on top of a mammoth four LPs, three of which contain a huge swath of unheard demos, B-sides and rarities, this is a cash-in on a much-beloved pop band we're sure will be eaten up.

Review: Louis Johnstone is known for his mischievous and anti-art approach and here he teams up with Trilogy Tapes for Dracula Completo, an unhinged, chaotic release that defies conventional music. Operating under multiple aliases including Wanda Group and A Large Sheet of Muscle, Johnstone's work blends concrete electronics, warped samples and dark, often distorted spoken-word pieces. Dracula Completo embodies his subversive style and is a mix of absurdity, mutant poetry and rebellious energy. Though Johnstone's work challenges norms and provokes, it remains surprisingly accessible and engaging.

Review: Synthesiser is the third release from New York post-punk legends A Place To Bury Strangers on their own label, Dedstrange. After spending the early part of their existence releasing on labels such as Mute and Dead Oceans, seeing them settle into the saddle on their own label and thrive is encouraging to see. Afterall, it suits frontman Oliver Ackermann as he's had an indelible impact on the New York DIY scene after more than 20 years doing top level stuff. He's been steering indie record labels, running DIY spaces, and has his own pedal manufacturing company. Part of the joy of Synthesizer is that it's a feast for the ears thanks to the galactic trip it feels you're on with the custom effect-laden instrumentation and vocals. The avant-gade and experimental noise that they embrace comes from a collaborative and spontaneous approach to writing. Unlike the band's previous album, where Ackermann wrote everything on there, this is Ackermann with John and Sandra Fedowitz fully in-tow and it's about as far from a Pro Tools plug-in operation as you can imagine. This is a hand-wired masterpiece with some explosive and, at times, elegiac moods to immerse in. This is the music you wish New Order were making.

Review: A Place to Bury Strangers' seventh album, Synthesizer, is a celebration of spontaneous and natural sounds and features a new lineup with John and Sandra Fedowitz. Frontman Oliver Ackermann describes the album as chaotic yet human, pushing the limits of gear to create an "epic sound journey." Tracks like 'Fear of Transformation' deliver a snarling gothic techno-punk experience, while 'Have You Ever Been in Love' offers hypnotic, tribal rhythms. Recorded in their Queens studio, Synthesizer is one of the band's most live-sounding records, capturing the raw energy of their performances. The lead single, 'Disgust,' epitomises this with its open strings and high-pitched guitar cry. Ackermann's playful approach and dedication to the DIY ethos shine throughout, echoing the collaborative spirit of his Death By Audio venue. In Synthesizer, A Place to Bury Strangers melds extreme noise with catchy hooks, creating a record that is both wild and beautiful inside the experimental rock genre.

Review: As long as there is hip-hop, debate will rage as to which album by A Tribe Called Quest is their finest. Of course, they're all superb, but 1993's "Midnight Marauders" - their third full-length - may well be the best of all. That's a big call, but we'd ask any doubters to give it another listen. The New York crew is in particularly fine form on the mic throughout, while the backing tracks, which make great use of crunchy, head-nodding beats and hundreds of superb, hand-picked samples, are amongst the most intricately produced, groovy and deep ever committed to wax. It's one of those hip-hop sets that should be in the collection of any committed music head, and not just rap fans.

Review: In 1991, A Tribe Called Quest released The Low End Theory, a groundbreaking album that solidified their status as hip-hop legends. Building on the jazz-infused sound of their debut, the album featured sparse grooves and expertly chosen bass samples, with jazz bassist Ron Carter contributing to 'Verses from the Abstract.' DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad's minimalistic approach allowed Q-Tip and Phife Dawg's lyrical prowess to shine, showcasing their clever wordplay, humor, and social commentary. Tracks like 'Butter' and 'The Infamous Date Rape' addressed misogyny, while 'Rap Promoter' and 'Show Business' critiqued the music industry. The album's production is consistently smooth, with standout tracks such as 'Check The Rhime' and 'Jazz (We've Got).' The posse cut 'Scenario,' featuring Leaders of the New School, is a legendary closer. The album's influence on hip-hop is undeniable, inspiring future artists like Kendrick Lamar and Outkast. The Low End Theory remains relevant and refreshing, a testament to Tribe's creativity and unflappable style. It's a masterful blend of thought-provoking lyrics and impeccable production, making it one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time.

Review: The general consensus is that We Got It From Here, Thank You 4 Your Service, A Tribe Called Quest's sixth and final album, is something of a triumph, with many critics hailing it as the best full-length of 2016. It's certainly a fine set, full of their trademark musically rich backing tracks (enhanced, this time round, with a greater reliance on live instrumentation), conscious lyrics and distinctive, on-point vocal delivery. Given their legendary status within hip-hop, it's unsurprising to see a string of similarly high profile guests dotted throughout, with Busta Rhymes, Andre 3000, Kayne West, Consequence, Jack White and Elton John (presumably in sampled form) all lending a hand. Even if you're only mildly interested in hip-hop, this should be essential listening.

Review: Influential and ground breaking American hip-hop legends A Tribe Called Quest dropped their fifth album The Love Movement in 1998. It was the last one with their complete original line up before the passing of Phife Dawg. It continues stylistically from where the previous album, Beats, Rhymes and Life, left off with the group's signature minimalist beats, r&b overtones and jazz-flecked production, all of which was taken care of by The Ummah. The mature vocal themes, laid back delivery and subtle style of the album makes it one of the many classics in their oeuvre. This limited reissue spreads it over six sides of essential wax.

The production, led by The Ummahia collective including Q-Tip and the late J Dillaiintroduced a more minimalist and darker tone compared to their earlier, jazz-infused works. Tracks like '1nce Again' and 'Stressed Out' exemplify this evolution, blending introspective lyrics with innovative beats. The reissue offers a renewed appreciation for the group's willingness to experiment and evolve, highlighting a significant chapter in their discography.

Review: Fusion Sequence is a new offshoot from the Mellophonia label that kicks off with a heavyweight release both literally - its 180g vinyl - and metaphorically. It features seven different artists offering up one track each on what is a widescreen exploration of fresh deep house. They are A Vision of Panorama, Eternal Love, Pool Boy, Wolfey, Laseech, Larry Quest and Jay Sound and between them everything from cuddly depths to more moody late-night deepness is covered on an EP that brings plenty of new perspectives. A fine inaugural 12", then.

Review: A2L were active between 1988 and 1990 and released two albums and several EPs on labels like 1st Bass, Big One and Force Inc. Their sound blended British psychedelic house with elements of new beat, industrial, EBM and early acid house and in doing so captured the raw energy of the UK rave scene. Notably different from typical acid house acts of the time, A2L's music took in machine funk, samplers and turntable techniques to create trippy, infectious grooves. This collection compiles rare underground gems from them from 1989 and features standout tracks like 'Even Though It's Make Believe' and 'Come On.' It's a great look back to the experimental spirit of the late 80s.

Review: Although it's a genuinely terrific album, A3000's 1994 set Magnetic Gliding remains unknown to all but a handful of 90s ambient and ambient techno enthusiasts. Musique Pour La Danse has, wisely some would argue, decided to reissue it. Produced by Swiss scene stalwarts Marco Repetto (best known as part of cult post-punk era combo Grauzone) and Stefan Riesen - who later joined forces again as Synectics on Reflex - the album flits between spacey deep techno workouts (sublime opener 'Sonic Stripes'), psychedelic ambient soundscapes (see the similarly impressive 'Flow'), and the kind of hybrid cuts served up by 90s contemporaries such as Spacetime Continuum and Air Liquide. In a word: essential.

Review: There was a big fuss made when Aaliyah's music finally made it to streaming services late last year, which shows just how in demand it remains over a quarter of a century after it first hit record stores. Her self titled long player was an early and frankly just about unbeatable blueprint for r&b that has more than stood the test of time. With guests posts from Static From Playa and Timbaland she opened up on all manner of subjects from rejection to love, personal anxiety to better times. The slick production still sounds fresh, as does the timeless vocal work.

Review: Finland's Olli Aarni delivers two swirling, longform tape meanderings on Dauw Belgium. Aarni's music is effortlessly analogous to organic structures and growth, and the A-side is a blissfully suspended, gauzy trip, with resonant pads and emotive tintinnabulations permeating thick, gravelly clouds of teeming tape flutter. On the flip, hollow drones give way to a dense haze of soft noise and abstraction, before regressing to purer sine rumblings towards a cathartic conclusion.

Review: Ab Ovo have been making music since 1991, establishing a longstanding foothold in the conjoined genres of ambient, electronica and IDM. Releasing their last album in 2007, they enjoyed the pure glory of veteranship, until now: Vrystaete / Enfant Terrible have here embarked upon a full, career-spanning compilation of selections from across their albums, amounting to a whopping four sides of brainy, pensive, best-buy chillout made over two decades. With careful intent to represent their discography not as a mere compilation, but an album, Le Temps Retrouve 1994-2007 spans a career's worth of work while still crafting a novel sonic narrative; the geodesic dome on the front cover is held firmly in mind, as is the sonic "stress" of the record distributed with equipoise, beginning on the opening wrung-out rainsticks and moody marimbas of 'Night Is My Time', middling with the likes of synaptic club-bound breathables like 'Horizon Vertical' and 'Triode', and ending on the bitter stretchy-synth lament that is Nimp's remix.

Review: Swedish pop legends ABBA seem to be as talked about these days as ever, largely down to the fact that the holographic stage show proved such a huge success with all those who continue to pack it out in the capital. They were very much at the peak of their powers back in 1981 when The Visitors, their eighth studio album, arrived. It actually saw the group move away from their super light and airy and catchy pop of previous works and enter more mature and complex musical worlds. The fact that Benny and Frida had recently split up coloured some of the tunes such as 'When All Is Said And Done' and even topical Cold War themes were explored.

Review: Modular synthesizer fetishist Luke Abbott apparently got the inspiration for this sophomore set during time spent as the "musician in residence" at the Wysing Arts Centre in Cambridgeshire back in 2012. Named after a piece of woodland close by, it sees Abbott using live analogue electronics to try and create a "natural life cycle" over the album's nine tracks. Interestingly, it differs from his impressive debut album in a number of ways; while Holkham Drones touched on krautrock, drone and intense ambience, Wysing Forest doffs a cap to spiritual jazz, Terry Riley and ambient explorer Pete Namlook. It's a beguiling set, all told, and one that constantly veers between crunchy bursts of intense IDM and becalmed, breathtaking ambience.

Review: This is a deluxe reissue of a real pop classic from back in 1997. ABC is a group that traces its origins back to Vice Versa, a Sheffield band formed in 1977 by Stephen Singleton and Mark White. They released the Music 4 EP after founding Neutron Records and Martin Fry, creator of the fanzine Modern Drugs, interviewed Vice Versa before later joining as synth player. By 1980, the band transformed into ABC, with Fry assuming lead vocals. The lineup included Fry, Glenn Gregory of Heaven 17, and Keith Lowndes. Though their debut album received acclaim from critics, it didn't achieve widespread commercial success. Despite this, ABC's fusion of pop and electronic elements laid the groundwork for their future iconic sound.

Review: To the delight of the 80s synth-pop faithful holding on to the decade prior, Martin Fry revived ABC in 1997 after a five-year hiatus. It's noticeable that Fry wasn't interested in repeating old tricks though, as he took the band in a new direction alongside Heaven 17's Glenn Gregory without losing that keen sense of songwriting magic that made ABC so popular the first time around. Loaded with emotionally charged reflections on life, the universe and everything, this is a welcome pressing on blue and white marble vinyl which is limited to 1000 copies.

They are capable of slowing down - 'Dazed' has been slowed into a hypnotic Spacemen 3-esque psych/shoegaze jam. The band are relative newcomers and not widely known... yet. But this is going to be one of those albums you'll be kicking yourself for not having a first pressing of. Abdomen is only going to get bigger and it will give the Tapetown studio in Aarhus, Denmark - where they recorded this - more bragging rights for being among the coolest alternative music spaces in Europe.

Review: Gateway by John Abercrombie is a captivating journey through the realms of modern jazz fusion, featuring Abercrombie's masterful guitar work alongside Dave Holland's silky-smooth bass and Jack DeJohnette's dynamic drumming. Seamlessly blends traditional and progressive jazz elements, Abercrombie's compositions showcase intricate band interplay, with tracks like 'May Dance' and 'Jamala' highlighting the trio's ability to shape melodies around each other's instrumentation. Holland's bass provides a solid foundation, grounding Abercrombie's exploratory guitar solos, while DeJohnette's drumming adds texture and depth to the ensemble. Abercrombie's experimental approach to guitar sounds, as seen in 'Sorcery 1,' adds a unique dimension to the album, enhancing its dissonant yet accessible nature. Overall, Gateway offers a rewarding listening experience for jazz and music lovers.

Review: Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Abberation are the latest in a new breed of abyssal depth dwellers plumbing the cavernous realms of extreme metal to provide the type of sonic horror more in line with Lovecraftian cosmic terror than, say, slasher movies. Following on from their punishing 2021 self-titled EP, the band's debut album Refracture weaves hyper-dense, virtuoso technicality with avant-garde compositional approaches, in order to audibly concoct the musical equivalent to falling endlessly through the void. Featuring members of Void Rot, Suffering Hour and Nothingness, their fluid cohesion marks a triumph for the modern scene of USDM, and implores listeners to surrender rather than mosh and allow the insidious sonic meanderings to enlighten and horrify in equally transcendent measure.

However, a recent rediscovery by diggers and curators Kon & Amir, for their lauded Off The Track Volume Two: Queens compilation, sparked a renewed interest; the South African four-piece shared equal responsibility in writing and arranging these six instrumentals, which are tight and full, and come replete with Hammonds, well-surrounded guitar, and cross-sticking snare hits.

Review: A master of sonic art, music, photography, sound for images, and conceptual performances, Ben Kelly's Aboutface project has found favour with some serious tastemakers, and if this is your first visit to his vivid, trance-inducing world, it shouldn't be that hard to understand why without going much further into the back catalogue. Not that we don't implore you to do just that.

Opening on 'Small Hands & Feet In the Sand Who You The Great Illusion', the penchant for long titles should already be clear. As such a deft ability to make tunes that are lush, peaceful and packed with meditate qualities. But anyone expecting this to be all tranquility should think again, 'We Flee Whilst the Wild Smoking Horses Swim Among Us' layers spirals of sound and refrains in such a way you feel the energy rippling from its arrangement, while 'The Water That Glows' is a joyous, leftfield downtempo-into-neo-dnb outing. Exceptional.

Review: An about-face is a complete and utter change in direction; it's this sonic capriciousness that the producer, whose namesake is drawn from the word, finds solace in, and wishes to welcome. Following a period of exploring theta wave and hemi-sync techniques - don't ask us, we're still not sure - the artist also known as Le Sculpteur d'Esprit (the Mind Sculptor) is said to have touched down in this dimension with the ambition to transport listeners through at least four portals of altered consciousness; each of these are intended as thought-worlds in which interactive sculptures, evoked through sound alone, are revealed in the listeners' collective mind. From opener 'Le Tournesol (The Sunflower)' to closer 'L'il De L'elephant ('The Elephant Eye'), these are thoroughly well-sound-designed sonic lemni-scapes, bringing complex sets of progressive builds and electro-spirituals to an awestruck form; immaculately experimental, the record would sound well at home on an Invisible Inc. or Cascine tape.

Modern Classical
Placelessness I (18:12)
Placelessness II (20:33)
Review: It's fair to say Placelessness is the work of an Australian experimental supergroup. Oren Ambarchi has been a towering figure of hyper-minimalism since the mid-80s, most notably creating tense and elongated stretches of recordings and performance using guitar tone. Robbie Avenaim is an accomplished experimental drummer, and Chris Abrahams heads up The Necks. That's a very condensed biography for three incredibly accomplished musicians who finally make good on years of live collaborations and criss-crossed pathways to deliver a stunning album which brings their respective qualities into sharp relief, somehow fuller than their solo efforts without losing the vital subtlety and patience which has guided them to greatness.

Review: Gracie Abrams' The Secret of Us is a stunning sophomore album that showcases her growth as a songwriter and vocalist. Building on the success of her debut, Gracie delivers her most expansive work yet, both sonically and narratively. Teaming up with longtime collaborator Aaron Dessner and best friend Audrey Hobert, Gracie infuses each track with urgency and emotion, drawing from her live experiences over the past year. The result is a collection of songs that feels deeply personal and authentic, capturing the essence of shared moments and intimate conversations. From start to finish, The Secret of Us is a arresting listen that highlights Gracie's evolution as an artist and leaves you eagerly anticipating what she'll do next.

This release is her most expansive work yet, both sonically and narratively. Review: Both of Joshua Abrams first two albums have been reissued this month, and this is the debut from 2010. At the time the artist said it was written with a view to countering "the commodification of time and the diminishing attention span that accompanies it by offering music with an irresistible groove, rooted in the sinuous rhythms of the human body and the full play of our senses." He sure pulled it off with elan across six tracks built around his own playing of the guimbri, a North African three-stringed bass lute. This is intoxicating, non linear avant-jazz that is utterly meditative.

Review: Relapse Records welcome Absent In Body for a label debut. The metal collective is made up of musicians such as Iggor Cavalera, Scott Kelly and former members of acclaimed metal-ers such as Amenra, Sepultura and Neurosis. Plague God is an adventurous record that is fearless and uncompromising in its approach with a real lucidity of expression and collective coming together that reaches new heights. It might be a terrifying listen filled with hellish left turns and sublime subversions but it is all held together well.

Review: The Abstract Eye often works live and crafts tunes in one take, and that MO is the idea behind this new collection. It features plenty of hard-to-define sounds from over the last ten years, many of them with a cosmic synth outlook and raw analogue drums. 'Skyfather' is a real eye opener with its sense of mystic cosmic wonder, 'Real Myths' fizzes bring as burning phosphorus and 'A Yearning Feeling' is more paired back and introspective with jittery drums and electro rhythms all soothed by the melancholic synth work.

Review: In 2019, self-described "boy band" hip-hop collective Brockhampton released their most commercially viable album with Ginger, but that same year, creative mastermind and leader Kevin Abstract would begin laying the groundwork for his future solitary ventures. While Arizona Baby marked Abstract's third solo endeavour, it would be the first since his group's signing to Sony RCA, which naturally meant an increased budget, wider distribution and far more attention than any previously released output baring Ian Simpson's stage moniker. Primarily produced by Jack Antonoff (Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey) and Brockhampton's Romil Hemnani, the project would initially be released piecemeal in three chapters, sonically moving from experimentalist hip-hop to increasingly hazy neo-psych r&b and avant-pop, before finally being re-released in its entirety. Unpacking the intensity of his newfound fame, the homophobia still rife within the hip-hop community, as well as delving into the controversial ousting of former bandmate and high school friend Ameer Vann; Arizona Baby covers a plethora of musical and personal ground in its half-hour runtime, while the retrospective lens of Brockhampton's abrupt demise in 2022 adds further depth and an air of interpersonal tragedy to the material's confessional nature.

Review: As the artist alias kind of suggests, Abyssy takes a deep dive into the unknown depths of the human spirit. It finds the artist returning to Simona Faraone's label after several years and finds him exploring electronic sounds of the 70s and 80s, blending Berlin school minimalism with Detroit techno's soul and funk. It is a record that ranges in mood and tempo as it heads into oceanic depths where wispy pads and chattery percussive patterns collide in unusual ways. It's a largely abstract album of unusual sound designs and genuine electronic discovery that often has you wondering just how certain abounds have been made.

Review: In October 1977, Australian rock titans AC/DC were set to enjoy a night off in London following two successful shows at the Hammersmith Odeon, before they were tapped by The BBC at the last minute to replace The Sensational Alex Harvey Band who had cancelled their scheduled appearance on the Sight & Sound In Concert show at the Hippodrome in North London's Golders Green. While the likes of Queen, Jethro Tull, The Kinks and Roxy Music would perform at the 3,000-capacity venue over the years, no band or set has ever rocked the Hippodrome like Bon Scott and the boys did on this fateful evening. Ripping through a truncated, all bangers setlist of seven tracks in just 40 minutes, including 'Problem Child', 'Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be', 'Whole Lotta Rosie' and 'T.N.T.', while Angus Young would run rampant whilst shredding through the balcony section, this performance has gone down as one of most iconic from this early definitive era of the band.

Review: Six years is ages for a band to go without releasing an album or doing very much. But for AC/DC, whose work rate has always been ridiculously high, it's a very, very long time. Between then and now, the band lost their lead singer, Brian Johnson, to hearing difficulties in the middle of their last tour, and saw drummer Paul Rudd arrested in New Zealand for 'attempting to procure a murder'. Talk about impetus to finally call time.

But then these are the guys responsible for one of history's greatest heavy rock triumphs, 1980s's Back In Black, released just months after formative frontman Bon Scott tragically passed. So it's no surprise Power Up, another post-traumatic release albeit an act of reunification with now (relatively) healthy Johnson and innocent Rudd returning, is among their best in the 40 years since. A comeback record that sounds exactly like AC/DC should - ballsy, bluesy, boozy riffs.

It's 1977 and AC/DC are not-so-fresh after a spell as the support on Black Sabbath's tour. Looking for a new bassist, after a disagreement over whether to pick Manfred Mann's Colin Pattenden, the band agree on Cliff Williams, who would remain in place until 2003. Recording what became Powerage, their fifth studio album, Atlantic Records soon complained there wasn't a sellable lead single. 'Rock 'n' Roll Damnation' took form, one of the group's outliers, which comes without standard guitar solo but with maracas and hand claps. While this proved divisive among die hard fans, the album itself has gold waiting to be discovered deeper down. 'Gimme A Bullet', for example, has been cited as the finest track the late Bon Scott would write, his lyrical flair and deft metaphorical wit shining through on a tune that won't let up. This was his final LP, and tragically three years later he was no longer with us, marking an end to the group's iconic first chapter.

Review: With four albums dropping throughout the first half the 1980s, the second iteration of AC/DC with Brian Johnson on vocals was definitely on a roll. This recording of the band in action on the West Coast of the US mixes classics from their Back In Black classic like 'You Shook Me All Night Long' and 'Hell's Bells' - with older favourites. There are fan faves galore here but also a few tracks which make the cut less often, such as 'Shot Down In Flames' from the Highway To Hell album, 'She's Got Balls', 'Shoot To Thrill' and more. That alone sets it above the average live broadcast album from the band, elevating it into the realms of the essential for hardcore devotees.
