A Tribe Called Quest - "Rock Rock Y'all" (4:12)
Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Band - "What Can You Bring Me?" (2:45)
Review: You just cannot miss with this superb label which is now up to release number 33 in this series. And the latest is a golden-era classic featuring legendary mic men A Tribe Called Quest and top soul boy Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Band. The A-side features the track taken from A Tribe Called Quest's Love Movement album so is packed with their signature beats and bars. On the B-side, you are treated to the funky original sample source from Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Band which delivers a raw, infectious groove. If you love classic hip hop and funk, and why wouldn't you, this is a great pairing.

Artur Nikolaev - "New Edition" (7:04)
Cladu - "No Name" (8:00)
Review: ViGis opening salvo for 2025 brings together four artists from four continents who all blend their own diverse cultural roots and influences into a superb collection of cuts for the club. This is a 12" that offers a refreshing take on familiar sounds and delivers subtle yet punchy variations in style and rhythm. Adema keeps it nice and clean and slick on the deep, bubbly tech of 'Jm Glavio' while Red Pig Flower's 'Stardust' is a zoned-out roller. Artur Nikolaev's 'New Edition' is a deft minimal soundscape with warped lines and bubbles dub undercurrents. Cladu shuts down with 'No Name' which is a more propulsive cut.

Dan Andrei - "Si Un Ecou" (8:07)
Root - "Apophis" (7:36)
Clock Poets - "Galaxy" (13:45)
Review: Clock Poets returns with Surrealism, a three-track various artists exploration of minimal techno and micro-house. Dan Andrei's 'Si Un Ecou' is a stripped-back, bass-heavy roller that is simmering with tension before erupting into modulated synths. Root's 'Apophis' delivers swing-heavy micro-house with shuffling drums and growling synth textures which nod to the genre's golden era. Clock Poets' 'Galaxy' on the flip is a sprawling 14-minute live-recorded jam rich in intricate sound design to end with a classy touch. Surrealism masterfully balances moods and textures here and makes for another refined entry in the Clock Poets catalogue for lovers of thoughtful, hypnotic dance sounds.

Dreaming Of A Silver Future (8:47)
Your Name On My Arm (7:18)
Do You Wanna Wonder (7:13)
Review: Following years spent serving up sounds on a wide variety of underground labels (Into The Woods, Atipic and Infuse included), Alexis Cabrera renews his productive partnership with Raum Musik - a label he last appeared on four years ago. The EP highlight is unquestionably A-side 'Dreaming of a Silver Future', a sparkling and positive-sounding affair in which spoken word snippets, shimmering stabs, jacking drum fills and tight TB-303 tweaks rise above a chunky bassline and restless drums. Flipside opener 'Your Name On My Arm' is a rugged and decidedly moody affair in which blackened electronics, trippy samples and dystopian sonics, cropped vocal samples and short TB-303 tweaks ride a charred bassline and chunky tech-house beats, while 'Do You Wanna Wonder' is a hypnotic and lightly intergalactic European tech-house roller with notably crunchy drums and a few nods to Twilo-era Danny Tenaglia.

Under That Blue Sea (7:31)
Review: Alexis Cabrera has always liked to subvert expectations and cross traditional genre lines in his work. He does so again here on the On_NRV label which brims with inventive spirit. 'Mi Housa Es Tu Housa' is a vibrant minimal house cut with some fresh synth sounds looping through rolling and infectious drums. 'Balas Que Pican Cerca' has a more abstract cosmic feel with menacing sci-fi pads and unreeling drum funk. 'Expiration Pain' has a steely aesthetic with rugged and textural synth motifs looping up through the mix and last of all, 'Under That Blue Sea' is a more balmy cut that allows you to catch your breadth amongst some deeper grooves.

Review: The latest EP from the Lonely Planets label co-founder Caim plunges you into an innovative soundworld of ancient myth and futuristic techno brilliance. The title cut 'Medusa Hunter' weaves hypnotic rhythms with smouldering, Goa-inspired melodies that are driven by venomous basslines that evoke suspense and intrigue. 'Hypno Gravity' is a weightless cut with balmy neon pads and silky beats that lure you into a trance where time fades and consciousness drifts. 'Adonis From Space' is another supple and stylish sound with ambient pads adding scale to skeletal rhythms. 'Desert Planet06' shuts down with a masterful blend of dubby undercurrents and aquatic sounds.

Review: Minimal house legend Thomas Melchior and Montreal's Flabbergast duo bring their skills to remix Calcio Club's cool System Check EP. Melchior is one of our favs when it comes to silky, deep, minimal house and here delivers a remix that retains the original's groove while smoothly transitioning into lush synth vibes. Flabbergast's Guillaume Coutu Dumont and Vincent Lemieux have a sound just as distinctive and offer two remixes that push micro-house's limits. Their tracks feature mind-bending effects, Moog-style synth hooks and a burst of percussion that all lead the remixes to a new level of dance floor ecstasy.

Review: These two classic reggae tracks are now available on 7" vinyl and pressed loud for maximum vibes. Cornell Campbell's opening cut 'Darling Forgive Me' is a heartfelt, soulful tune that showcases his emotive vocals over a smooth, steady rhythm. The song has become a sound system favourite over the years with its emotional plea and captivating melody. On the flip side, The Paragons' 'Baby Some Day' brings a more upbeat vibe with its catchy hooks and harmonious delivery. It is a perfect blend of love and longing, wrapped in a laid-back, rhythmic groove.

White Boards (Melchior Productions LTD remix)
Review: Italian pair Carebears bring a freaky twist to their brand of minimal here. 'Phone Home' has a wonky dial tone that slowly disorientates you over loopy drums and bass and 'White Boards' then gets more raw. The drums are precise and militant and the mood is mysterious. Remixing is Thomas Melchior, who to our mind has made some of the most unique minimal cuts of the last 15-plus years. His deftness always shines thorough in his airy, hypnotic drums and here as Melchior Productions LTD he does that again, flipping 'White Boards' into something that is weightless yet rooted on the floor and dreamy but driving.

Review: The legendary Fatman is back with another must-have 10" release featuring Don Carlos's iconic vocal roots classic from 1980. The A-side includes the full 12" disco mix, highlighted by Robbie Shakespeare's unforgettable bassline which adds to the fresh, deep groove of this perfectly aged track. Review: Cosmic vibes, disco roots and a touch of robot melancholy, created during a time of isolation and strange moments apparently, so channels feelings of longing and creativity into something playful and deeply human. Review: One-man dance music production line Tom Carruthers - a regular contributor to L.I.E.S and the man behind the admirable Nonstop Rhythm label - makes his bow on Make a Dance's M.A.D imprint. Fittingly, the fast-rising duo kick things off with their take on title track 'Last Night', delivering a vintage-sounding house cut featuring sublime lead vocals from Harriet Brown that sits somewhere between Frankie Knuckles' turn-of-the-90s productions and Larry Heard's late 80s deep house jams. Carruthers' gorgeous instrumental original mix follows. Over on side B, 'Phone Sexting' sees Carruthers blur the boundaries between proto-house and early Chicago jack tracks, while 'New Life' is a picturesque slab of deep techno loveliness.

Previously featuring alongside luminaries like Rune Lindbaek and Khidja on a well-received compilation, Casinoboy's latest kicks off with 'Honesty' which is a blend of Balearic and breaks that brings a shuffle-and-wiggle experience with uplifting samples and an old-school UK rap edge. Now the Bristol-based selector has commissioned a bunch of tasty remixes of it that all twist the original into different but equally effective new realms. Huerta brings his breezy but banging house style with hints of garage, Saoirse feeds it through her melon-twisting minimal filter and MoMa Ready gets for a chest-puffed and dub-infused big room sound. Peach's Booty Bongo mix is exactly that while our fav is from K-Lone whose Creamix is a bubbly and super catchy rework with a hot vocal and neon chords. Lovely stuff.

Review: Ceri's 'Don't You Wanna' is a cult cut that has now been remixed several times. Following in the footsteps of the likes of Mr. G and Fred P and D'Julz, this one features four more on-point artists adding their own spin. It's Paul Rayner who goes first brings old school 90s synth lines that bubble up through the mix. The Zombies In Miami remix is more buoyant with raw stabs and drums, Cici then hammers home a tribal techno groove with psyched-out synth patterns and last but not least is a warped, ritualistic and tribal dance rework from Dee Diggs with her excellent Whisper mix.

And for anyone who has heard him play any time since 2018, they will also know that 'Pipe Down' has been a regular in his sets that never fails to make an impact. It has rolling basslines and techy drum patterns with some unsettling synths and well-treated vocals all keeping you on edge. The release explores the hidden history of Carlos Gardel, "El Mago," a pivotal figure in Tango, who pioneered video clips, radio broadcasting in Uruguay, and the first sound films from "el Rio de la Plata." Unleashing the ghosts of 93 with big sacks of sheesh and oh my gosh, each of these cuts hits hard with the neck-snap breaks and big hooky samples. Standing six tracks deep, Gemini Era tends towards the loved-up, saucer-eyed and gently psychedelic, with colourful melodic motifs aplenty and tons of audible references to early progressive house, ambient house and ambient techno. Elsewhere, 'Jia's Dance' sees the Aussie explorer wrap vintage New Jersey garage-house sounds around a punchy breakbeat, while 'Birds of Prey' is a dubby chunk of sunset-ready dancefloor bliss.

'Fading' (Posthuman remix) is twitchy and gurgling broken beat techno with some throwback and raved ready piano stabs. Last of all is 'Collapsed Lung' which has squealing, glassy melodies bring a real feeling of unease over slithering and metallic techno drums.

Stepping Across (Temporal Transgression mix) (7:49)
Review: "Everything is being transformed and yet nothing changes" sings Andrew Burnett on the aptly-titled 'Everything Is Moving.' It's been a fair while since we last heard from Paisley-Glasgow's jangly-indie-poppers Close Lobsters, and by all accounts their triumphant and unarguably catchy return pretty much sums up where we're at in February 2025. So much seems to be changing. And yet, when all is said and done, most of us are still going to be left in the same vulnerable position we started out in. But let's not get too bogged down in geopolitics. Better to focus on the four tracks that make up this resurgent EP. Opening on the title song, Stepping Across sets its stall out somewhere close to The Lighting Seeds, and double down on that position throughout. It's uptempo, summer-sounding stuff that doesn't shy away from exploring reflective themes. Oh, and probably worth noting the excellent, tougher and drummier 'Stepping Across (Temporal Transgression Mix)' that closes the package - arguably superior to the original.

Wos (5:46)
Am (6:36)
Review: There is plenty of old school favour, hip-hop influence and West Coast cool to these two tunes from Coast2Coast on their own label. 'Wos' is first up and has minimal grooves with languid guitar melodies worming their way through the beats under subtle scratches and tight raps. On the flip it's 'Am' which picks up the pace and races ahead on skating beats, deft percussion and with more of those intoxicating raps up top. It's a unique mix that will make a great impact. As always with this outfit, this is an intriguing blend of charm and character.

Review: Furthur Electronix's first two Furthur Journeys Into compilations tune plenty of heads and shift plenty of copies. The third one keeps the quality levels high with more explorations around the periphery of underground electronics. Chris Coco opens with a soothing synth sound before Jake Slazenger brings crystalline synths and abstract modulations to the mid-tempo '168B.' There is more pace and twisted acid energy to Global Goon's untitled contribution and then old school jungle comes to the fore on the super stylish and atmospheric Gavin Masih cut. Monika Subrtova's 'Alata' is a serene and widescreen ambient synthscape that brings things to a suitably poignant close.

Known for their experimental fusion of eclectic jazz, funk, downtempo beats and vintage Italian library music, this release marks a fine exploration of Italian vocals. The A-side, 'Luce' features a vibrant mix of 80s jazz-funk and boogie in an extended, energetic version. On the B-side, 'Luna Gioia' presents a contemporary take on downtempo Brazilian funk and slow disco complemented by an instrumental version that highlights the music's intrinsic beauty.

Review: The mighty Skylax label always does things right. It has never bowed to trends or chased fans. Instead it deals in timeless and effective house and techno. Alessio Collina is next up to continue that mission with Pieces of Life, a no frills EP that gets you jacked. 'All Of That' kicks off with the sort of scintillating, dusty drum work that defines early Chicago house. 'Humble Groove' paris more raw hi hats and thudding kicks with charged-up synth stabs. On the flip side, the tension continues with 'Lost World' which is another percussive, layered up cut with glistening drums and smeared pads. 'Mid-season' is the final hurrah and one that has more pace to it, but also some lovely retro-future melodies.

Review: Yet another Northern soul rarity from the criminally obscure Donna Colman, whose voice has a distinctively rounded diction, as evidenced by this newly reissued song dedicated to the overwhelm of new love. Regaling the tale of a man whom she once ignored but then came around to, original copies of this one have been posted for the insane asking price of L1,500 thankfully, due to this issue, we've got you on that front. Like Colman, we love this record too much to turn away from it.

Review: Progressive quartet Combo Chimbita launches their own label with a psychedelic-infused track merging dub reggae's rootsiness with cumbia's guacharo and chicha-influenced guitar. 'Margarita' and its dub counterpart 'Nene' form a lush duo that marks a new phase in Combo Chimbita's evolving sound. After honing their act from an improvisational collective to a captivating ensemble, they entered a period of introspection and experimentation and sought guidance from producer Victor Axelrod, aka Ticklah. With a focus on their Colombian roots, they fused traditional elements with reggae nuances, exploring themes of displacement and identity. This release symbolises their journey.

Review: Comfort Zone is a producer to watch this year and we present to you Exhibit A, this new EP on Future Retro. He previously appeared on this label on Meeting Of The Minds Vol. 5, and also collaborated with the label boss Tim Reaper on music for Banoffee Pies. This solo outing kicks off with 'Tunnel Vision' which brings real synth beauty and deep cosmic feels to a lithe and soulful minimal rhythm stacked with masterful sound designs and crispy snares. 'Snake Stealer' has more plunging bass and contrasting lightness in the wispy melodies, then Reaper adds his own remix of 'Tune Vision' which is much more brash and in your face. Closer 'Tilted' is another super stylish and jazzy number with nimble bass and lively breaks.

Review: We're told the curation of this new EP took place over several months so that it best reflects the artist's diverse range while maintaining true to his signature sound. Hypnotic ambient elements intertwine with driving drums throughout with a crisp, polished mixdown lending it a cohesive aesthetic. 'Lampak' is hurried, funk, bubbly with trance-inducing effects. 'Nagy Mama' is more loopy and mentally intense then 'Beke' hits hard with flat-footed drums and warped acid bass bringing the movement. 'Hang' shuts down with a more curious atmosphere and unusual sounds over dubby low ends.

Review: The Satta Dub crew have assembled another superb platter and pressed it up to translucent green marbled vinyl and included an insert for good measure. It's a spit that opens up with Daweh Congo's 'Holy Place' which rides on tumbling drums with scattered hits. Yearning vocals up top and natty keys are paired with sultry trumpet notes. A dub dials it all back into the low ends, then Prince Alla's 'Rose' is a work of the same rhythm, by the sounds of it, with soulful vocals and playful horns. Another dub closes out this one in heady fashion.

Jones's soulful vocals glide effortlessly over sleek lyrics, harmonising perfectly with Cool Million's infectious groove. The track radiates nostalgic 80s smoothness but never sounds kitsch and that shows the duo's fusion of retro influences with modern production has stood the test of time. Review: Cool Million has long been synonymous with the boogie funk style, which is sadly a genre lost by the late 1980s. Collaborating with singers spanning eras from the 80s to today, they bridge generations of soul, funk, and boogie. Here they work with English soul sensation Kenny Thomas, known for his UK Top 40 hits, who is a cornerstone of the original UK soul scene, boasting eight Top 40 singles and two Top Ten albums. His track 'Without Your Love' exemplifies this genre, a driving uptempo anthem with a funky uplift. The accompanying dub version enhances its appeal for DJs worldwide, affirming its place in contemporary record bags.

This latest dancefloor hit features Seest, a Danish soul singer and longtime collaborator, while the tune blends funky, jazz-infused boogie that draws inspiration from artists like Earth, Wind & Fire, Kool & The Gang, and The Crusaders. It boasts powerful horn arrangements, rich chord changes and driving basslines with an up-tempo power-funk groove at its finest. This single serves as a great taste of the album to come.

For this one which arrived on black wax in March and now comes on a coloured slab, they work with Tomas Thordarson - whose Latin-flavoured single 'Shame On You' was Denmark's 2004 entry into the Eurovision Song Contest. He gets much more funky here with elements of UK street soul on 'My Life (main)' with its boogie bass and loose, louche claps, rubbery bass and catchy grooves. Flip this one over for a superb dub version.
