Isms & Schisms (4:42)
Magistrates Dub (4:19)
Review: Hidden Sequence returns, this time to kick off a new label Magistrate, and hot on the heels of their quick-to-sell out 'Silent Roots' last year. This fresh EP seamlessly bridges classic 70s Jamaican dub with modern, bass-heavy and dubwise delights, starting with 'Isms & Schisms'. The horns are brilliantly inviting as are the low ends which have been well worked on a vast desk and come packed with echo and effects. 'Magistrates Dub' is an immediately infectious skank that shifts into a deep, dub-heavy exploration and unites past and present dub influences.

Riding For A Fall

John Holt - "Riding For A Fall" (3:52)
I Roy - "Make Love" (2:46)
Review: The electrifying reggae legend John Holt dropped the classic single 'Riding For a Fall' on the iconic Jackpot Jamaica label back in 1972. His is an early roots vocal version with trombone player Vin Gordon adding bold brass notes to the buttery vocals of Holt which rides smooth over a warm riddim. On the flip, I Roy's excellent DJ cut 'Make Love' hits hard and lands heavy, so it's one to crank up nice and loud on a hot day, or any day for that matter. You can hear the 1970s Kingston spirit in every groove.

Love That Lady (2:34)
Don't Take Your Love (3:13)
Review: Chicago native James "Soul" Holvay is a true soul survivor. Best known for penning the 1967 U.S. No.1 hit 'Kind of a Drag for The Buckinghams,' Holvay led The Mob before stepping away from music in the late 70s. But with the resurgence of retro soul, he made a stunning comeback in 2020 and was soon channelling the golden era sounds of Curtis Mayfield, Gene Chandler and Johnny Pate once more. His 2021 'Sweet Soul Song' EP earned critical acclaim, and now LRK Records drops two gems from his Working Man EP in the form of 'Love That Lady' and 'Don't Take Your Love', both pure vintage Chicago soul heaters.

Review: On Higher Dreams is the debut LP from Italian producer and guitarist Isaac de Martin, aka IKE. It is couched in jazz and electronic fusion and draws inspiration from the time the artists spent in Egypt during the COVID pandemic back in 2020. It was there that themes of nature, contrast and cultural reverence for music informed the record's conceptual foundation. Tracks like 'Nilo' and 'Sidda' channel the life-giving force of the Nile and its surrounding traditions, and the whole thing was recorded live to analogue in Berlin so effortlessly merges vintage warmth with modern textures while offering a contemplative, cinematic experience shaped by cultural immersion and personal reflection. A strong debut, then.

Review: The always excellent Minimal Wave presents a rare EP from Greek electronic pioneers In Trance 95 here. Alex Machairas and Nik Veliotis formed the duo in 1988 and very much helped define Greece's early electronic scene with their minimal synth and EBM-inspired sound, all of it usually marked by analogue warmth, hypnotic melodies and a futuristic sensibility. This release captures their innovative spirit and cult legacy across six unreleased tracks recorded between the late 80s and early 90s in Athens. It sounds magnificent and is a long-overdue glimpse into their visionary archive for new fans, or a fine reminder of their roots for those who have always been tuned in.

Track 2 (3:34)
Review: For Fourth Wave Record Factory, MURO has put together a couple of new and exclusive 7" releases that feature two classic Japanese AOR tracks by artists who very much played a part in defining the sound. Firstly, Ginji Ito's smooth and soulful 'Heart and Soul,' originally from his tenth album, shines with mellow mid-tempo vibes and glossy vocals and melodies. On the flip side is 'Uwaki na Kare,' a beloved cover of a classic US disco track from Ritsuko Kazemi's third album that comes correct with a catchy, laid-back Saturday love groove. This release marks the first time these iconic songs have been pressed on 7".

Junior Dell & The D-Lites - "Watch That Girl (Little Fatty Boom Boom)" (3:30)
Woodfield Rd Allstars - "Sharpen Up!" (3:11)
Review: Junior Dell & The D Lites so often and so brilliantly work together and this is another fin example of it. Red hot vibes and sunny soul flow freely throughout the airy and breezy 'Watch That Girl (Little Fatty Boom Boom)', which muses on a passing beauty with a lovely behind. It's a single bursting with catchy hooks and tight rhythms topped by Junior Dell's charismatic vocals and all coated in nice authentic lo-fi fuzz and analogue warmth. The Woodfield Rd Allstars provide a Hammond organ-laced groove with brighter melodies and still lush, dynamic instrumental backdrops that elevate the song's lively edge.

Raag Megh - Madhya Khayal In Jhaptal (10:13)
Raag Megh - Tarana In Teental (15:17)
Review: Black Truffle presents a rare 1974 live recording of Pakistani vocalist Salamat Ali Khan here. He is a master of the kyhal style in Hindustani classical music, and this was captured at Berlin's MetaMusik festival. In it, Khan's performance of Raag Megh unfolds across three distinct tempos that cook up meditative calm with fiery improvisation. Accompanied by tabla and harmonium and uniquely using an alpine zither, the trio crafts a hypnotic, weightless soundscape that tends to emphasise silence and pulse over traditional drones. The LP features striking black-and-white photos and liner notes by musicologist Peter Pannke who helps to capture the transcendent power and spirit of this historic concert.

Review: La Ruka is a prominent artist from Colombia's Pacific Coast. She blends hip-hop, salsa, Afro-Colombian roots and urban Latin genres in her music even though she is now based in Barcelona. Her live shows are always high on energy and tunes of hers like 'No Quiero Marido' and 'Todo Es Plata' are some of many standouts from the last 20 years. Her lyrics often focus on Afro-descendent women and life in Buenaventura and this new EP is another injection of Latin rhythms direct to your soul. Each one is sun kissed and percussive with irresistible production from the likes of JMoney, Village cuts and Lanzapro.

Review: Scandi curveballer Leoparden first shook up Oslo's experimental scene with a funky twist of disco, electronic pop and irresistible grooves. After his 2019 debut single Boliglan and a solid album on Lyskestrekk Records in 2019, plus a couple of singles, he vanished for a bit. Now, he's back and cranked up the dial, diving deeper into shimmering synths, punchy drum machines and dancefloor-ready beats. His lyrics casually capture everyday Oslo life with a breezy vibe, while the music keeps you moving with its playful vibes. Though rooted in Norway's capital, Leoparden's sound is a global invite to dance that transcends time, space and place.

William Spring - "Give Thanks Riddim" (3:21)
Benyah - "Badman Horns" (3:48)
Dub Dealing - "Badman Riddim" (3:48)
Review: This heavyweight 12" delivers fresh French-produced roots reggae straight out of the unlikely region of Brittany in the North West. It unites the talents of producers William Spring and Arthur Dub Dealer with sought-after Jamaican vocalist Aza Lineage and results in 'Give Thanks For Life,' a spiritually charged anthem carried by Aza's commanding, conscious delivery over a deep, meditative rhythm. William Spring serves up his own riddim, and the B-side offers a delicious dub version from Dub Dealing that strips the rhythm back and recooks it with echo-drenched finesse. Benyah's 'Badman Horns' is tipped with some ska-adjacent brass to make for a meeting of modern roots energy with enduring messages of uplift.

Review: Electronic soul innovator Liv.e followed up her acclaimed Girl In The Half Pearl with PAST FUTUR.e last year, and it's now dropping on vinyl. The surprise seven-track project was made in just 24 hours and announced via a post on X. It's a lo-fi synthwave collection that betrays her genre-defying instincts and trades neo-soul smoothness for raw, hallucinatory energy. She bellows like a dancehall toaster and delivers fragmented narration over fuzzy, pulsing synths that echo Gang Gang Dance's experimental spirit. Is it an EP, album, or mixtape? It doesn't matter-PAST FUTUR.e is an unfiltered transmission from one of r&b's most inventive voices, and it's wildly unpredictable.

Review: Lord Byron's sixth album is a real standout in his discography and another trademark fusion of Southern rap's silky essence with the introspective depth of slowed-down, chopped-and-screwed beats. Produced by Ben Hixon of Dolfin Records (which is dropping a ton of great records right about now, by the way) A Portrait of Fyodor on Fire shows off Byron's versatile delivery as he seamlessly blends rapid-fire verses with the hypnotic rhythms of DJ Screw's influence. Collaborations with RPBGV further enrich the sound with new layers of complexity and innovation all white drawing inspiration from diverse sources for subtle inspiration that makes for a Texan-infused world of introspection and rhythm.

Review: Although they only debuted a couple of years ago, Los Guapos Sensibles have become firm favourites with lovers of authentic international grooves and sounds like cumbia. Here they return with La Alicia bringing vocals heat on this double A-side. Leading with a digital dancehall flip of Vico C's classic proto-reggaeton banger, 'Bomba pa' Afincar,' it's got that island vibe locked down. On the flip, they dive deep with a bass-heavy, fresh take on the timeless bolero 'Sabor a Mi' by Alvaro Carrillo, which is where Puerto Rico meets Mexico in a sonic showdown. Raw, rhythmic and packed with swagger, this is the best of tradition warped into a modern groove for a bold, cross-cultural fun.

Review: Hyperspace Communications drop a fresh remix package of cult US new wave trio Los Microwaves' debut LP, What's That Got To Do (With Loving You). Remixed by Kit Watson from the original 24-track analogue tapes, the release features two discs. Disc One is a 45 RPM dancefloor-ready EP with six reimagined cuts from Life After Breakfast, including 'deadpan vocals and punchy cold wave grooves Time To Get Up' and 'TV in My Eye.' Disc Two runs at 33 RPM and adds four instrumental versions tailored for film/TV sync and live remixing. It's a great addition for collectors or an introduction for anyone new to these California synth and techno-punk disrupters.

His rendition of 'Night Breeze,' previously recorded by Ronnie Laws, is another highlight and the mystical 'Mother Nile' features deep rhythms while the dreamy mid-tempo roller 'Pisces' soothes. Since launching his trio in 2011, he has cultivated a distinctive musical voice that is fluid, expressive and richly lyrical. His sound blends jazz improvisation with global influences and cinematic depth and has won him comparisons to legends like Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea. Produced, mixed and dubbed by Variedub, 'Give Dem' features the powerful vocals of Tenor Mario, who is also part of Cool Up Records, and whose energetic delivery always cuts through. Review: Khadim is a smart evolution of Ndagga Rhythm Force's sound-stripped down, spacious and spiritually charged. Abandoning guitars and full percussion, the four track album hones in on minimal live drumming, dubby synths (including Mark Ernestus's Prophet-5), and Mbene Diatta Seck's powerful, expressive voice. Each track is emotionally rich and narratively distinct while touching on Senegalese history, Sufi devotion and street-level struggles. Songs like 'Lamp Fall' and 'Khadim' pay homage to revered religious figures while blending traditional rhythms with contemporary electronics. After years of touring, this new direction feels deeply rooted yet forward-reaching and means this album is both devotional and radical in its dubwise majesty.

Review: OK. Let's face some facts. The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to Drive is up there with one of the best scores ever put together. And that goes for the compositions of Cliff Martinez as much as the guest bands and artists drafted for the other songs. Where else are you going to hear Riziro Ortolani and Katy Ranieri's operatic overture, 'Oh My Love', and The Chromatics' low sung, mood-building electro tracker 'Tick of the Clock', side by side? The answer is, of course, nowhere. And that's just skimming the surface. Deeper inspection take us to some stunning pieces of ambient and drone. 'I Drive' is a remarkable example of gong bath on record, 'Skull Crushing' is overwhelmingly heavy thanks to its use of distant sound and up front quiet. It feels like you're in a pressurised chamber. We could go on, but that wouldn't save any room to mention the trophy piece - College and Electric Youth's spectacularly emotive synth stunner, 'A Real Hero'.

'El Amor Es Un Bicho' is all big energy and playful vocalisations, South American rhythms and bold horns, the moody 'El Diablo' has a darker bassline and more menacing energy but is packed with late 60s Latin flair. The former gained significant attention after being used in a Japanese car commercial. It laid out a blueprint for fast-paced, jazzy and funky hip-hop sound. The title of the first track 'This Is Like A Dream' conveys what Bowery would have felt to have held this exhibition and making his dream come true from beyond the grave is a beautiful touch. And the song is a reminder that for all Minty's bizarre performances and sensational avant garde costumes they still backed it up with great music and would have cut through the noise on their songwriting alone. Both tracks feature Bowery, recorded as they were in 1993 and 1994 respectively. True gems finally unearthed.A

En Perpetua II (5:29)
Alegria De Vivir (5:47)
Review: Madrid duo Pablo Miron and Juan Vacas return with their second album, En Perpetua, which delves deeper into their signature decayed collage and psycho-acoustic soundscape while building on their debut Of No Fixed Abode. This time out they also embrace new creative confidence and the possibilities offered by a fresh Madrid studio and use violin, harmonica, voices, guitars, a looper, FM radio and diverse array of field recordings-from the Spanish countryside to exhibition sounds-to bring it to life. They craft eight re-pitched meditations that explore fractured music and rhythmic patterns which unfold through their distinctive, open-ended and immersive tonal journeys.

Review: Developed as off-the-cuff cassette overdubs, work taking place in Manchester and Massachusetts, combined with syncopated vocals, Human Engineering very much lives up to its name. Narrated by Rick Myers, with long-time collaborators Andy Votel and Sean Canty in charge of the noises, it's a strange place to spend some time but it's also oddly beautiful. At first ear, the aesthetic feels rough and mechanical, definitely anything but human. But as things draw us further in to whatever this plain is, the organic at the root of everything rises to the surface. Suddenly, the obtuse noises no longer sound alien, and instead have taken on their true form - products of people, perhaps artefacts from a time we're about to forget. One in which machines were ours, not their own.

Review: Milton Nascimento's ambitious follow-up to the groundbreaking Clube da Esquina came back in 1978. Spanning two discs, Clube da Esquina 2 maintains the collective, genre-blurring spirit of its predecessor while deepening its emotional and political scope. The lyrics tap into Brazil's social contradictions of hope and despair, beauty and hardship with lush, experimental melodies and busy, prickly rhythms. Across its varied textures, Nascimento blends MPB, jazz, rock and regional grooves, all shaped by a growing circle of collaborators including Elis Regina, Chico Buarque and Lo Borges. It's a bold, poetic reflection on Brazil's past and future with Nascimento's unmistakable voice at the centre.

Review: Broken beat legends Nautilus return with a futuristic teaser for their upcoming 2026 studio album, and on this evidence, it's going to be superb. The first single reimagines a legendary anime soundtrack with their signature groove and features Japanese singer and sanshin virtuoso Anna Sato, whose vocals elevate the track to a new dimension. The release is completed by Berlin-based DJ and producer Delfonic, a well-known disco and house don and label head, renowned for his deep club remixes and praised by Gilles Peterson. Delfonic adds a magical touch with heavy beats that come with plenty of lavish synth work.

Review: Jazz pioneer Silje Nergaard's evolution continues with new album Tomorrow We'll Figure Out The Rest, which is a tender, richly orchestrated tribute to love, memory and family. Backed by her longtime jazz trio and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra with lush arrangements by Vince Mendoza, this one mixes up personal nostalgia with a real sense of timeless elegance. Inspired by cassette tapes from her childhood and classics like 'Lover Man,' it also includes a gorgeous Beatles cover ('Here, There and Everywhere') while highlights like 'A Perfect Night to Fall in Love' and 'Dance Me Love' really make a mark with their heartfelt sincerity. It's a dreamy, emotionally resonant work that anyone who enjoys sophisticated, romantic jazz-pop will adore.

Review: Four years, a lot of gigs, and a change of lineup are all that have stood between Vyvyd and The Uncanny Extravaganza. New Candys triumphant return after the best part of a half decade is exactly that, unleashing some of the most powerful tracks in their oeuvre after no less than two years spent writing, recording and producing them. Which is ironic, given the raw, unfettered distortion that makes much of what's here so compelling and utterly devastating. It would sound off-the-cuff, it it weren't so complex. The Uncanny Extravaganza is one of those records that makes you genuinely excited about the prospect of seeing a band live again. It's loud - even if you've got the volume down - and its disharmonious, it's soaring and distant yet immediate and up front. It's psyche-infused garage rock with a dusting of raucous shoegaze (if that's possibly a thing), at times nodding to the likes of Ringo Deathstar or Death In Vegas, in other moments Spiritualised. Or maybe that's just us.

Review: 'Incense Music for Dining Room' is the third release in the acclaimed Incense Music compilation series curated by Toru Hashimoto, with artwork by Jiro Fujita and mastering by Calm, who is one of Japan's leading figures in jazz, chill-out and Balearic music. The 7" comes with two standout tracks: side-A features a beautiful reinterpretation of Yusef Lateef's 'Love Theme From Spartacus,' famously sampled by Nujabes on 'The Final View,' while Side-AA delivers a mellow, jazzy take on Joe Thomas' 'Coco' which also known as the basis for Buddha Brand's 'Buddha's Holiday.' It makes for a refined blend of nostalgia, jazz and chillout for discerning diggers.

Review: As well as being a dance music figurehead. Paul Oakenfold is a devoted film buff who brought cinematic flair to his soundtrack for Dominic Sena's action-thriller Swordfish. Crafting a moody, high-tech sonic landscape and blending the tense energy of Dope Smugglaz's 'The Word (PMT Remix)' with the chill sunrise vibes of Lemon Jelly's 'Kneel Before Your God' and his own electro rework of 'Planet Rock' with Afrika Bambaataa, Oakenfold paints a vivid picture of early 2000s Los Angeles nightlife. Tracks like 'Stanley's Tune' and 'Password' evoke neon-lit scenes of decadence and danger. Subtle yet imaginative, this record rewards headphone listening for max impact.

Crafted with producers Kwes Darko and Beach Noise, the album was recorded between London and LA so has a global spirit with universal emotional depth. It was designed to play from start to finish on a night out so is both a party record and a Trojan Horse with infectious grooves concealing layers of complexity and introspection. It's Obongjayar at his most adventurous yet and explores what modern, global pop can sound like in 2025.

Review: The Middle East has always invoked a sense of wonder and escapism, even if a singular tag for a vast and varied global region is an instant disservice. So it's not much of a surprise to find many countries currently in the throes of an explosive rediscovery of psychedelic sounds. Ouzo Bazooka is just one example of the kind of bands we're talking about. Originally solo project from Uri Brauner Kinrot - a musician, scientist and producer - the vehicle quickly grew into the fully fledged group we have loved over the last five albums and ten years, give or take. Widely considered pioneers of the burgeoning scene, Kapaim (Hebrew for 'palms') cements their status as a cut above most psyche rock bands anywhere on the planet. Informed by jazz, soul, blues, and indigenous musical traditions of the South Eastern Mediterranean, it's a smooth and intoxicating ride.

Review: Originally released in 2018 by LA emcee Pawz One and Dutch producer Robin Da Landlord, Sell Me A Dream: Flowstalgia finally now lands on vinyl. Born from a transatlantic connection made during a European tour, the album channels golden-era hip-hop with razor-sharp rhymes and gritty, sample-rich beats. Their first single 'It's Like That' set the tone for a full project steeped in classic style and lyrical substance, and the rest of the rocked has been entirely produced by Da Landlord but with heavyweight appearances from Prince Po (Organized Konfusion), MED and VegaMonster. Flowstalgia is a heartfelt nod to hip-hop's roots that never gets too nostalgic by also bringing new authenticity and craft to the style.

Review: Hayden Pedigo has always defied expectations and conventions. In a world of instant gratification, his music is both immediately enthralling but only truly rewarding for the more patient and deep listener. He's fused to the very core of the instrumental acoustic guitar canon, and yet seems hellbent on putting out record after record of, frankly, incomparable music. In his own words, I'll Be Waving As You Walk Away is "a micro-dose psychedelic album. I wanted it to be this tangible feeling, as if somebody had cut up a tab of LSD and put on a Fahey record." The trip itself is largely thanks to the technical genius at work here, with six strings manipulated in such ways as you often feel entire chasms of melody are opening up for you to fall into, Alice style.

Led by bassist Seth Ford-Young, the project captures the spirit of six live and intimate sessions recorded in Pasadena's Healing Force Of The Universe record store and the tracks, which were largely improvised, glide through soulful, spiritual jazz with warmth and clarity. Highlights like 'There's Still Hope' and 'Healing Time' showcase a rotating ensemble of LA's most sensitive players and they all create music that is both grounding and transcendent. Thoughtfully edited and deeply personal, this is the sort of record that cajoles you into a space of stillness, togetherness and quiet, essential reflection.

The record in fact emerges from six intimate, largely improvised sessions at Pasadena's Healing Force Of The Universe record store. The label is small but already well-formed and this sixth outing offers up a fresh roots reggae gem from Rapha Pico, whose 'Treat You Wrong' delivers rich vocal vibes over a heavyweight riddim. Review: Originally released in 1990 and celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, Frizzle Fry was the debut full-length from avantgarde funk metal absurdist trio Primus. Known to normies as the band who penned and performed the South Park theme song, those more in the know should be aware of the bold staying power and creative fearlessness this album exuded, whilst signifying that the heavier realms of alternative rock and metal didn't need to be all leather clad angst. Arriving at a similar time to the self-titled debut from Mr. Bungle, the early 90s began with earnest outsider attempts to push the envelope before grunge would come along and be completely devoured by the mainstream machine. Funded with money from the sales of their initial 1989 live album Suck On This, by the time of recording, original guitarist Todd Huth had departed the group, being replaced by mainstay Larry LaLonde playing many parts written by his predecessor. Boasting the band's breakout single, minor radio hit and longtime fan favourite 'John The Fisherman', this reissue duplicates the 2002 remaster and includes the addition of their double whammy cover of The Residents' 'Hello Skinny/Constantinople'.

Review: After 20 years of soulful and authentic rock & roll blues, Eli Paperboy Reed definitely had a right to celebrate. Originally recorded in a basement in Allston, Massachusetts, completely live onto and direct to analogue tape in mono, this collection was first released on a limited run of 300 CDs, self-released, and mostly sold by hand on the streets of Cambridge, close to Harvard University. Now redone, pressed-up and polished for 'proper release', you get all 12 original tracks and another 14 that never saw the light of day before. Four of those were recorded at the time of the others, the remainder come from a radio session the following year. All of them are incredible, and prove that it's not only the Deep South that can make these raw and unflinchingly honest sounds.
