8Kays - "Lyra" (5:23)
Review: Watergate, the cult Berlin club known for its riverside location and legendary LED ceiling above the dancefloor, is also a reputable tech house label that deals in fresh names only. Here it is 8Kays that makes a debut with Falling Down, a selection of superb collaborations including 'Matematica' with Glowal which is tense and electric tech with indie vocals and with Juan Hansen he cooks up the medically hopeful 'Falling Down' which then gets two remixes. Colyn & Beswerda make it into a moody and deep groove, Chris Avantgarde brings some peak time prog energy and solo cut 'Lyra' has a warm, paddy broken beat to cruise on through the stars.

Blame The Mono - "British Bully" (5:26)
Jadzia - "Lurkur" (4:37)
Ghost In The Machine - "Treachery" (5:45)
Umwelt - "Undercurrent" (5:26)
Review: One result of the pandemic when we all embraced slower tempos and more lush electric music is the inevitable reaction to that and rise in harder and more direct sounds. This blistering techno EP is a testament to that on French label Rave Or Die with four cuts of breakbeat-infused, guitar-licked dance floor weaponry. Blame The Mono's 'British Bully' kicks off with some contorted guitar lines and brutal breaks, Jadiza gets more hardcore with distorted synths and slapping hits and Ghost In The Machine then lays down slamming and dark drum energy on 'Treachery' before Umwelt closes with a panel-beating techno head-wrecker.

Review: The well regarded Umwelt introduced Raverbreakerz as a dynamic new series on his label Rave Or Die earlier in summer. This massive compilation shows what it is all about with four hard-hitting tracks from genre specialists Blame The Mono, Jadzia, Ghost In The Machine and Umwelt himself, Seamlessly blending techno, breakbeat and dark, intense sounds design to captivate and energise the floor in equal measure, each artists contributes to what is a versatile arsenal for DJs seeking powerful sounds with a distinct style. On this evidence, Raverbreakerz is going to be a crucial new series.

Under Black Helmet - "Nebula" (4:55)
Stigmata - "Shiver" (5:30)
Florian Meindl - "Mainframe" (5:12)
Review: There is plenty of experimental work at play int his new various artists' collection on Flash. Cloned Existence sets that tone with the brief synth exploration that is 'Wave 1' when Gael & Jolly take off with the much more punchy and thudding techno of 'Paradigm Shock' which is weird up with all sorts of synth designs, effects and layers of reverb. Under Black Helmet ups the ante further with one of those bulky techno grooves that locks you in the moment and Stigmata then brings big room 90s vibes with layers of tangled synth melting the mind. Florian Meindl brings things to a close with gritty, scraping bass, reverb-heavy kicks and pure warehouse techno heaviness.

Fields Of The Nephilim - "The Watchman" (6:49)
Sonic Violence - "Malice" (6:54)
Review: Mattoni Pazzi Studios is a fresh and young new label out of Switzerland that makes more cool moves here with a second 12" featuring reworkings by GOTT of industrial and metal anthems. It is a split that opens up with a remix of goth legends Fields Of The Nephilim's 'The Watchman' (GOTT Mutatio), a track with progressive guitar licks ringing out over a twisted metal bassline. The crashing drums are cacophonous and demand you march along to what sounds like Depeche Mode on a comedown. On the flip, Sonic Violence steps up with 'Malice' (GOTT Mutatio) which is a dark, stomping bit of tech that draws on elements of EBM and industrial to make for a gothic and strobe-lit late-night monster. It's physical body music with a soot-black soul. Serious stuff.

Review: Sometime PAN regular and UIQ head honcho Lee Gamble pitches up on Hyperdub with what the label says is the first of a three-part "sonic documentary" that "loosely explores three stages of 'Semioblitz' - the aggressive onslaught of visual and sonic stimuli of contemporary cities and virtual spaces". What's most exciting about "In a Paraventral Scale" is the sheer scale and quality of the music. Gamble is in fine form throughout, from the gentle, Boards of Canada-ish IDM of "Folding" and hybrid orchestral/electronic sweep of breathtaking opener "Fata Morgana", to the skittish, automotive energy and fizzing synth lines of "In The Wreck Room", and the almost ecclesiastical lament of closing cut "Many Gods, Many Angels". In a word: stunning.

On The Way Home (4:29)
Review: French electronic icon Laurent Garnier returns with the FABRICLG4 EP to celebrate the 25th anniversary of London's legendary club. This release showcases Garnier's signature range and opens with 'Playing with the Low-End,' a fierce 2-step track that nods to the heritage of UK club sounds. The journey then shifts to techno with 'Resonances from the D' barrelling along with great force and then on the flip side, 'Odyssee Maison' features deep house grooves with Dan Diamond and last but not least 'On the Way Home' rounds out the experience with ambient sounds. This one comes with "augmented reality artwork" by Atelier 14 and is another doozy from the already untouchable Garnier.

Review: To mark the passing of a quarter of a century since the birth of Eric Morand and Laurent Garnier's influential F Communications label, the long-defunct imprint has returned to deliver 25 re-mastered reissues of important and sought-after releases. "Club Traxx", Garnier's all-action, dancefloor-focussed 1995 EP made in tribute to legendary Parisian venue the Rex Club, is undoubtedly worth its place in the series. There's much to enjoy, from the moody, Motor City style synth-strings and bustling techno grooves of "Side Effects" and the wild, mind-altering stomp of "Ranchando O Bico", to the deep techno dreaminess of "Aquarius", the stab-happy, warehouse-ready thrust of "Pigalle", and the intergalactic, acid-fired call-to-arms that is "Dance 2 The Music". Proper European techno that pays due reverence to the sound's roots; don't sleep!

Review: Best known as the figureheads of Equiknoxx, Gav Gavsborg and Jord Time Cow get super freaky on Jon K and Elle Andrews' MAL imprint with this extended EP / short LP deliciously titled Writing Ov Tomato. In keeping with their boundary-pushing experiments of yore, the results playfully twist and shout between the dancefloor and headphone wizardry with an air of subversive derring-do. The title track, for example, starts off as a surreal cascading percussive roll before turning into a hypnotic techno banger while 'No Sweat In My Sweatpants' deftly flips between soft chimes and booty shaking beats. The highlight for many, however, will be the finale 'Brent Bird'. Relentless, industrial strength but loaded with soul, it represents everything we love about Equiknoxx.

Review: Roger Gerressen launched the Monoware project last year, via a split 12" on Sushitech that also contained a killer cut from Ion Ludwig. Here the experienced Dutch producer returns to the same label with a much more expansive proposition: the first Monoware full-length. While there's one foray into head-in-the-clouds, sofa-friendly deep dub territory (the delicious closing cut), the other tracks clearly take aim at the dancefloor. These club workouts are all rooted in techno, but various draw unfluence from crackly, lo-fi explorations, intergalactic broken techno, tech-jazz, toasty deep house and the blazed, metronomic pulse of dub techno. Happily, Gerressen barely puts a foot wrong throughout, serving up tracks that are as warm and otherworldly as they are sturdy and club-ready.

Conspiracy Origins (3:58)
Review: French DJ and producer Gesaffelstein has a renowned penchant for all things dark and heavy handed when it comes to his productions. For Turbo's 106th release the habit sticks and the three track EP is strewn with menacing arp'd synths and cutting drum wallops. Kicking off with "Viol" and its horror movie style sound pockets, tension is rife across the throbbing bass with screeching off-key samples leading the fear. Moving on, B-Side opener "Opr" maintains the theatrical swagger as winds sweep through pitch black tunnels and into creepy underground raves - not for the faint hearted! Finally, "Conspiracy Origins" takes on a more cosmic feel with electric glitches and bleeps galore that build and weave slowly through atmospheric downtempo moments.

The Lack Of Hope
Review: Turbo present the further hard to pronounce adventures of Parisian producer extraordinaire Gesaffelstein - with Conspiracy Part One being one of the Canadian label's most eagerly awaited release in some time (no mean feat given the circle of hype and expectation that surrounds all their output) The three tracks contained within demonstrate Monsieur Levy in lysergic mood, with "Hatred" grabbing you from the off and has no intention of letting go. Shimmering cymbals clash against a dominant and weighty bass line, high end's popping and low end's chugging. On the B-side "Aufstand" is just as arresting but garners an electro edge with stabbing keyboards and eerie pads swooping along the bed. "The Lack Of Hope" bellows out an echoey kick drum against warm key sequences, easily the most laid back and relaxed of the bunch and standing out as Juno's pick.

Review: Gesloten Cirkel has become one of techno's true cult figures since his emergence back in 2009 with a self-titled 12" for Viewlexx offshoot Murder Capital, exploring the strange fringe between techno and electro with intermittent releases for David Vunk's Moustache Techno and Berceuse Heroique. Supposedly from Russia, there has nonetheless been much speculation as to the producer's true identity, though his musical roots seem very much planted in the sound of The Hague. His debut album Submit X is described quite aptly as "not for the faint-hearted", featuring a host of electro and techno cuts filled with classic breakbeats, tripped out vocal samples and caustic acid lines. However, it's also an album which looks to classic minimal wave sounds for inspiration - the lean rhythm and vocoder of "Stakan" and decayed 8-bit textures of "Chatters" provide some of the album's most memorable moments, proving Gesloten Cirkel is a producer with a few tricks up his sleeve. Undoubtedly one of the albums of the year.

Review: Magic Ritmo is back with another brilliantly cultured release, this time a reissue of a 1990 gem that has long been shorted in mystery. You honestly would be hard pushed to know this was from all the way back then and now right now such is the richness of the sound design and the freshness of the rhythms. G.F.X. is an alias of Geoff Waterston, a producer and engineer from Whitley Bay on the North East English coast who spent his youth messing with electronics. Here he mixes up techno, dub, IDM and plenty more into a cosmic exploration with alien vocals and brilliantly synth craft. This is a cult record amongst those who know and rightly so.

They drop five club ready tunes here with mangled vocals and hefty kicks full of reverb and plenty of dark synths that drag you into an intriguing underworld. This one comes a couple of years after their self-titled debut and the fine Do Not Be Afraid Of Tenderness EP, all of which are as appealing to fans of noise-rock as they are techno. That the pair have played both Berghain and supported bands like IDLES tells you a lot about the style of their sound.

Review: Shout out to Greek powerhouse Kinesthetik Recordings for making it all the way to a half a century of releases there. They celebrate in the best way they know - with more tranced-out sounds from artists in their orbit. Giorgio & Andreas open things up with 'Nice One' and its thudding tech drums and cosmic synth lines. Diskinesia gets much more raw and moody with the edgy drums of 'Back & Forth' and Interphase then drops a pair of industrial tech thumpers. Giorgio & Andreas reappear with a raw, roughshod and deep groove and Marcelino Sanchez's 'Motive One' offers dub techno to close.

Review: Global Goon should be familiar to anyone with an appreciation for real deal braindance from the label that coined it, Rephlex. As a veteran of Aphex's label, the Goon has proven himself to be gifted in the art of off-kilter electro more than enough over the years. Quite simply, no-one is giving machine funk quite the flair and verve this guy is, and his wobbly jams are over-flowing with ideas. This is exactly what braindance is all about, wringing emotion, originality and sense of mischief out of the noisy boxes in your studio. At eight tracks, this is more like an album than an EP, all the better to sink your brain into.

Review: Rebecca Goldberg's Bonus EP is an acid-infused journey that is sure to turn heads. 'Bleikur' is a fast-paced 909/303 workout of the upmost. Released over the 3/03 weekend to align with Goldberg's HOR appearance and debut set at Berghain, the track sets a high-energy tone. The title track 'Bonus' is squelchy and post-apocalyptic, filled with big room reverb and white noise effects that create a dense, smoky atmosphere. 'N.A.O.,' inspired by the North Atlantic Ocean, blends intricate synth layers and drum patterns for a dream-like experience. On Side-2, it starts with a unique remixes of Bleikur' by three northern producers, adding fresh perspectives to Goldberg's acid sound. Known for previous works like '313 Acid Queen' and '?-3 Fatty Acids,' Goldberg continues to deliver faithful yet irreverent takes on acid. "Bonus" is a solid EP for anyone seeking new, old-fashioned squelch and inventive acid techno.

Review: Founding member of Depeche Mode and celebrated singer songwriter in his own right, Martin Gore's The Third Chimpanzee EP is up there with some of the best solo work he has ever put out, with a particularly unique type of dance-synth vibe that you can't escape from no matter how hard you try. Now we have the remixes, which have a lot to live up to but come with plenty of promise.

After all, the chosen producers involved are all heavyweights in their own right, and were certainly ready to step up to the mantle here. Opening with a pair of tracks made different by two of Brazil's most revered techno heads - ANNA and Wehbba - from there we get Berghain bass experimentalist Barker, the fury of Rrose, and percussive wonder of JLin, and that's before we come to the likes of Chris Liebing and Kangding Ray.

Review: Ellen Allien's label BPitch is one of Europe's finest and surely one of the most prominent labels to be headed up by any of the women in the scene. It is Gotshell behind this last 12" on the Berlin mainstay with four cuts of dark, artful techno from the Columbian that mark a welcome return to the label. He navigates between chaos and tranquility, blending disparate sonic elements seamlessly across the tracks starting with 'Forest,' which kicks off with misty dissonances and psychedelic pads over a driving kick drum. 'Who I Am' ventures into dubstep territory with echoey vocals and airy synths. 'Fluctuacion Paralela' delves into ambient realms, while 'Acid and Die' explores harsh acid coils. Sintaxis showcases Gotshell's unique aesthetic expertly.

Review: Back in 2020, Seven Hills took a deep dive into the back catalogue of Isle of White producer Andy Jones, offering up tracks he recorded as Makers of Movement. Here they return to White's vaults to explore his cult Governed By Rhythm project, initially designed as an outlet for his faster, trance-influenced productions. On disc one, we're treated to a trio of previously unreleased gems recorded between 1994 and 97: constantly building, 16-minute ambient acid trip 'ANWAM', hypnotic tech-trance treat 'Kick The Can' (whose warped female vocalisations and psychedelic noises are undeniably Goa-friendly), and 'Bedroom', which doffs a cap to early 90s Italian techno productions. Disc two features selected highlights from the two hard-to-find EPs he released under the alias in the 90s, with the breathless 'Synergy' and breathless, bass-heavy 'Toltec Chants' standing out.

Review: Meanwhile can always be counted on to unfurl seductive machine soul from the farthest reaches of the techno plain, and so it goes on this new album from Grit. The chords undulating through "Drifting From The Bay" match the track title perfectly, while "Dead Faces From The Past" sinks beneath the surface to present a ghostly ambient piece populated by haunting dub techno chords. "Principle" is equally blown out, albeit locked to a more insistent loopy mantra, while "Expansed" sounds positively sprightly in comparison with its pronounced beats. Things get more experimental on the metallic churn of "Piagga", while "Pheonix" brings a more functional deep techno flavour to the record before the appropriately sleepy finishing move of "Immersion".

Review: Dallas-based Gavin Guthrie first made his mark as TX Connect with the lead track on a split release with Speculator for the LIES BLK series in early 2013, and has subsequently left a grizzled mark on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Bad Mums Club and fledgling Aussie label Adelaide Soundworks. His arrival on Creme with this eponymous double pack should not be a surprise to anyone that keeps up on the Hague-based label's scheduled releases, with DJ TLR long alluding to his addition. Nine tracks deep, the mood swings from taut deepness like "Soundtrack 909" to more ragged fare that is comparable to the music of Midwest acid techno legend Woody McBride having a molecular meltdown. Perfect tackle for all basements and squat parties!
