TK421 (5:02)
Clap Trap (5:01)
Bad Transfer (5:02)
Mugger Scum (5:02)
Review: The Advent returns with Quad EP on Mord, showing off his mastery of rhythm and dark, driving techno. Side-1 kicks off with 'TK421', a darker banger that features intricate rhythms, perfect for setting an intense, hypnotic mood on the dancefloor. 'Clap Trap' follows, delivering an atmospheric groove that demands your attention with its wicked, layered techno sound. Side-2 ramps things up with 'Bad Transfer', a fast-paced, subterranean track that feels minimal yet manic, pushing the energy forward with relentless momentum. The EP closes with 'Mugger Scum', a primal, crunchy cut that strips things back to a raw, minimal core while still maintaining a gritty, powerful edge. Quad EP highlights The Advent's ability to blend complex rhythms with deep, atmospheric elements, resulting in a collection of tracks that will resonate with fans of intense, no-nonsense techno.

Neurotransmitter Operating Between Neurons
Electroquimica
Between Atoms (Asking Each Other)
Illusions Of Reflections
Review: Aocram was last on this label when he appeared on the Herdersmat compilation and now returns to More with a full EP which comes with a great sleeve featuring German geographer and naturalist Alexander Von Humboldt. The tracks blend abstract sound designs with smooth, automated rhythms such as on 'Neurotransmitter Operating Between Neurons', while 'Electroquimica' is a little more dark and manic. 'Between Atoms (Asking Each Other)' is married with alien effects and scurrying little details and 'Illusions Of Reflections' closes with hurried loops that tie your mind in knots.

Erosion 1 (5:20)
Erosion 2 (5:35)
Erosion 3 (5:37)
Erosion 4 (5:27)
Review: Strap in, because there is mucking about on the 80th EP from Mord. The ever popular, ever excellent Exum is at the helm and is a fine artist to enlist given his proven track record dating back years. The Spanish producer never fails to cook up fresh sounds while drying on a classic techno template and that is the case here. 'Erosion 1' is a screw-face banger with stomping drums and twisted acid. 'Erosion 2' is all about the jostling, bulky, macho drum programming which forces you to move and 'Erosion 3' rocks back and forth on a drum loop that will turn your mind inside out. Lastly, 'Erosion 4' gets all freaky with the edgy synths that light up the mix like a laser gun.

Irrational Fear Of Failure EP
Cat: MORD 102. Rel: 08 Feb 24
Irrational Fear Of Failure (5:19)
Danger Or Threat (5:20)
Confused (5:09)
Unprincipled (5:06)
Review: Portuguese techno mainstay Lewis Fautzi is in some form of late - it was only in September that he dropped his fantastic Manner of Death album on Faut, then he was back with more in 12" form on Polegroup in November and already he is now out of the blocks in 2024 with this impactful new four-tracker. His brand of tech tends to be dark and heavy, with apocalyptic abstractions and lo-fi synth, echoing hits and dub undercurrents all making for engrossing grooves full of drama and tension. Even the titles help to convey that message so drop any of these in the club and prepare for a brilliant meltdown.

Review: Portugal's Norbak probably deserves more attention than it feels he gets. He has been turning out effective and interesting techno weapons for a while now, and at a fairly high rate. He is someone who pairs a thorough knowledge of classic techno with his own modern interpretations on labels such as Soma Records, Warm Up Recordings and Mord. He's back on the latter here with some tunneling techno visions that are grainy, lo-fi, shrouded in late-night fog and perfect for losing your mind to at 5am in some dank warehouse.

Sombra Del Destino (5:18)
Sombra Del Camino (2:12)
Review: The Hereje EP by NWHR on Mord Records is a journey into primal techno sounds. Highlights include 'Sangre Desperdiciada,' an aggressive sci-fi techno track that pulses with intensity. 'El Juicio Del Escorpion' delivers ominous tribal techno reminiscent of James Ruskin or Jeff Mills, blending raw energy with intricate rhythms. 'Sombra Del Destino' stands out with its dark, haunting techno vibes, creating an eerie soundscape. The EP closes with 'Sombra Del Camino,' a foreboding ambient piece that evokes subterranean depths, filled with dark, spooky, and atmospheric tones. This EP is a masterful exploration of techno's darker realms, perfect for those seeking intense and immersive auditory experiences.

Flames Around (4:41)
Driving To Nowhere (5:07)
Magnetism (4:52)
Through My Veins (5:11)
Unpunished (4:50)
Confused (4:24)
Review: The mighty Mord is fast approaching 100 releases and as ever, the quality remains high on the 96th outing. It is Oxygeno who steps up here with a heavily textured take on techno that is underpinned by booming drums and detailed with plenty of great sound designs. 'Flames Around' is a loopy cut that rocks back and forth and fizzes with post-industrial energy. There is more urgency to the raved-up 'Driving To Nowhere' and hefty drum menace in 'Magnetism.' On the flip side, machines are in meltdown on 'Through My Veins' and 'Unpunished' while 'Confused' is a punchy and funky full bodied techno pumper. Sublime.

Body Of Divinity (4:44)
Review: Mord's Body of Divinity EP, featuring Oxygeno, dives headfirst into the raw, industrial techno sound the label is known for. Across six tracks, the release delivers the kind of dark, relentless energy you can easily imagine rattling through a peak-time set in a gritty, dimly lit club. Deep, wobbling basslines and acid-laced elements pulse through the EP, giving it a fierce edge while staying true to that tough, industrial vibe. The second-to-last track introduces a spacey, slightly elevating twist, but never drifts too far from the EP's heavy, mechanical atmosphere. The closer, 'Body of Divinity', shifts gears with a chuggy, more house-inflected groove, making it stand out without breaking the overall intensity. It's one of the strongest cuts on the EP, balancing a bit of swing with that signature Mord grit.

Humanized (3:56)
Review: Militant techno from Ritzi Lee, as ever embracing a looming threat: the oncoming technocratic takeover of mankind. The eight-track mini-album serves as an emotionless rallying call for the robot, paying ironic homage to Dutch technological ingenuity in the process (its parent label Mord is based in Rotterdam, after all). We would go into a track-by-track breakdown, but it's ultimately all the same; shuffling factoryscapes and chalkboard smokeouts - 'Humanized' being the only curveball, but it's a pseudo-humanization at best. "Selection, overtake, control," chant the machines.

Pockets Full Of Lighters (5:58)
Zero Seconds Ago (5:18)
One-armed Leg (7:35)
Talking Drum (5:14)
Review: Prolific Ukrainian producer Stanislav Tolkachev returns this week with a new one for Rotterdam's MORD imprint. The How Much Do You Know EP features once again his idiosyncratic style of techno music: whether it's the multi-layered and widescreen arrangement of opening cut 'Pockets Full Of Lighters' which is truly indicative of his majestic style on the A-side, followed by the pounding, peak-time minimal assault of 'Zero Seconds Ago'. On the second side, Tolkachev presents more off-kilter offerings like on the experimental beats of 'One-Armed Leg' or the expansive electro of 'Talking Drum'. Tolkachev continues to prove himself as one of the most innovative producers in modern techno music with this release.

Magnete Permanente (6:35)
Review: Viels' Pensieri Ricorrenti EP offers four intense and high-powered explorations into deep techno, each track delivering its own distinct energy. Side - opens with 'Wujhca,' a blazing sci-fi journey with aggressive, percussive elements that feel dangerous and futuristic. This track sets a fierce tone, capturing the listener with its high-tech edge. 'Effetto Bilaterale' follows, a hypnotic banger that pulses with relentless energy, drawing you deeper into its rhythmic trance. On Side-2, 'Pensieri Ricorrenti' brings a tech groove that is compelling and seamlessly blends intricate layers of sound. The EP closes with 'Magnete Permanente,' a menacing track reminiscent of Jeff Mills, with its dark, powerful beats and a relentless drive that leaves a lasting impact. Pensieri Ricorrenti EP is for techno lovers seeking tracks that push boundaries and deliver intense, deep techno experiences.

Privazione Individuale (6:45)
Sintesi (6:24)
Entropia Variabile (6:51)
Moto Ondulatorio (6:19)
Review: 2023 marks a decade since Bas Mooy launched Mord, an outlet for forthright, heavyweight techno of the type that's now all the rage but was once frowned on but all but those who followed the style. We'll have to wait and see what they have - if anything - in store in way of celebration, but first Mooy has decided to offer up this collaborative EP from Dynamic Reflection regulars Viels and Pyramidal Decode. They begin with the dark, buzzing, atmospheric intensity of the Donatto Dozzy-esqye 'Privazione Individuale', before opting to pepper a more minimalistic techno groove with leaping modular pulses on 'Sintesi'. 'Entropia Variable' is a dense, locked-in chunk of noise-smothered industrial techno, while 'Moto Ondulatorio' is a surging slab of peak-time energy peppered with mind-mangling modular motifs and razor-sharp electronic riffs.

Anom Valley (5:31)
Review: Anom Valley follows Damcase's recent outing on Bunker and positions the Greek producer as a leading light in hard techno. There is a rough, raw feel throughout this release for Bas Mooy's label; "Delete Scene" is mired in distorted kicks and noisy, barb wire percussion and both "Rusty" and "Towards Them" resound to titanium-powered steel drums. "Interlogon" is probably the most extreme track, thanks to its grisly, punishing rhythm, but Damcase also has a funkier side. He showcases this on "Rn 45" and "X Gun", where hypnotic electronic pulses, although encased in weeping layers of white noise, see him get his groove on.
