WKO (10:06)
Jackson Heights (7:59)
Review: Released to mark the tenth birthday of his Novel Sound label, Levon Vincent's latest 12" boasts one of his most talked-about secret weapons, "WKO", a track he famously included on a Resident Advisor podcast a few years back and has been a staple of his sets ever since. It's a real late night treat: a loopy chunk of slack-tuned techno looseness that sees the acclaimed producer pepper a lolloping, cymbal-heavy beat with quietly spacey synth stabs, progressively more intense additional percussion and some woozy late night sounds. B-side "Jackson Heights" is a deeper and more sanguine affair, with deep, dubbed-out bass and quiet melodies riding a locked-in drum machine groove.

Kissing (6:27)
Only Good Things (8:53)
Review: Levon Vincent often saves his tastiest morsels for the Novel Sound label he set up in 2008, so hopes are high for the producer's latest two-tracker on the imprint. Thrillingly, it doesn't disappoint. A-side "Kissing" is a wonderfully sensual and emotive affair, with Vincent manipulating and echoing out a stabbing string pattern and simmering (electronic) orchestration over a trippy techno beat. He switches vibe a little on fine flipside "Only Good Things", a superb nine-minute workout that sits somewhere between dreamy, glassy-eyed Balearic deep house and hypnotic European techno. While we'd happily dance to it, we might end up listening to it a lot more while lying flat on our backs.

Track 1 (8:18)
Track 2 (5:27)
Track 3 (6:25)
Review: Levon Vincent delivers the third part of his Dance Music series, dropping some of his no-nonsense New York grit onto the grooves with impressive results. "Track 1" buffets metallic storm clouds of dub techno around a stripped and steadfast rhythm, making for an oppressive but dynamic workout for deep divers to drown in. "Track 2" keeps things even more mysterious, with the thinnest slither of a beat carrying haunting tones in the distance shot through with a catchy, albeit gravelly, lead. "Track 3" brings a little more light into the mix, riding a chirpy house groove and using chimes to tap out a simple but effective thread of melody in the foreground.

Review: Fresh from delivering the "Dance Music" trilogy of 12" singles, NYC native Levon Vincent returns to action with an EP of untitled tracks. It's an impressively melodious and ear-pleasing affair, with the Berlin-based producer's no-nonsense house and techno drums being smothered in a variety of tuneful synthesizer lines, fuzzy but futuristic electronics and warm basslines. Picking highlights is tough, but we'd suggest starting with the bubbly analogue bliss of "Track 1" before moving on to the chunky goodness of "Track 3", where cheery lead lines dance above non-stop bass and crispy machine drums. Elsewhere, "Track 4" sounds like a tribute to the soundtrack to forgotten early '90s Commodore Amiga game "Fire and Ice" and "Track 2" is a heartwarming rush of luscious lo-fi lead lines and unfussy drums.

Track 1 (10:42)
Track 2 (5:32)
Track 3 (4:23)
Review: Despite the matter-or-fact title, there's little ordinary or mediocre about the three tracks that make up Levon Vincent's first EP of 2019. Check, for example, the untitled A-side cut, where glassy-eyed, old school style piano riffs and fluid solos ride a chunky, thickset retro-futurist groove. It's quite deep in tone, despite the loved-up musical elements on show, but also feels like an underground anthem in the making. Over on side B, Vincent first combines Steve Reich style cyclical marimba loops with wonky club beats and warm deep house chords, before peppering a locked-in rhythm track with intergalactic synthesizer melodies and ultra-deep atmospherics.

Track 4 (3:44)
Review: So here is the second instalment of Dance Music by Novel Sound chief Levon Vincent. From the retro roar of the A side cut, taking its cues from classic house and synthpop on an irresistible gem that could easily have been from the days of Chicago's first wave. On the flip, the neon-lit aesthetics continue on the spooky late night antics of B1, while B2 is somewhat of a throwback to the burgeoning sounds of early industrial - think The Normal or Chris Carter on something unheard of from Vincent ever before but very impressive nonetheless.

Together Forever
Speck's Jam
Review: It's here! Levon Vincent graces us with his first 12" of 2012 just as the year approaches closure. Announced in customary fashion with little prior fanfare, the centre piece of this seventh Novel Sound release is undoubtedly "Stereo Systems", an early stripped back highlight of the Berlin based producer and DJ's mix for Fabric earlier this year. Lifted out of context of his Jedi style mixing there, the track sounds all the more remarkable in isolation, a deathly kick drum offering sole forward momentum before an ever daunting array of beautiful crystalline synths rain down in a manner you feel could slip into infinity. Complementing this are two face down unreleased DJ tools, rubbing the rough and rugged percussive stomper "Together Forever" against the playful loop driven house of "Specks Jam".

Early Reflections
1000 Miles From Home
Review: The Six Figures 12" was first released in 2009, when Levon Vincent was on the cusp of international recognition ("Double Jointed Sex Freak" and "Late Night Jam" were still to come). Here it gets a repress - a rare occurrence on Mr Vincent's Novel Sound imprint, but a welcome one - on oh-so collectable white vinyl. Those of you who missed out the first time round should wrap your ears immediately around the title track - a swampy ride through mid tempo house with mournful strings wringing out every last drop of emotion from the track. In a word, stunning. Flip over for two sprawling, dub techno jams; "Early Reflections" and the weirdly psyhedelic"1000 Miles From Home", both intricate sonic experiments which show Vincent cultivating a sound that has captivated dancefloors across the globe. Well worth (re)discovering.

Birds (8:21)
Tubular Bells (Oldfield) (7:46)
Review: There's been much online chatter about Levon Vincent's latest 12". Sadly, it's not been about A-side "Birds" - a thrillingly ragged, aggressive and powerful acid thumper that's up there with the producer's most potent work - but rather what's lurking on the flip. As the title suggests, "Tubular Bells" is a cover of Mike Oldfield's most famous work, whose twinkling melody remains one of the most famous and well known in popular music. Vincent retains that melody line, looping it up and tweaking it out over a typically rubbery and fuzzy 4/4 house groove. Some will love it, others won't; either way, A-side "Birds" is superb, making Vincent's latest Novel Sound 12" an essential purchase.

Review: Novel Sound man Levon Vincent belongs alongside Shackleton and Shed in the small cadre of high calibre artists that possess the ability to scuttle out a new release by no means of PR or promotion and still receive the hype. Absent from the new releases stacked shelves at Juno since last year's hot pink split with Herr Dettmann, Vincent slips back into Novel Sound gear with this no-nonsense NS-12 12". Jobbing techno DJs with regular gigs in the bigger clubs will find these four Untitled cuts very useful indeed, be it the mind-warping synthetic patterns of the lead track, the dusty percussive throwdown of its A-side companion or the epic orchestral touches of the glistening B-side opener.

Ocean (dub) (5:38)
Sunlight (6:31)
Review: Hot on the heels of his rather good CYCLOPS TRX two-tracker, which featured a sublime 14-minute chunk of chiming techno brilliance, Levon Vincent offers up a speedy sequel o the Novel Sound label he founded way back in 2008. He begins in moody fashion via the dark, creeping title track, 'Riding Alongside The Ocean', where woozy, foghorn-esque synthesizer tones and creepy cymbal patterns ride a post-apocalyptic techno groove. Over on the flip, he delivers a remarkable translation of the same cut - the more percussive, bass-heavy and oddly jazzy 'Ocean (Dub)' - before putting on a happy face and unleashing the cheery, synth-heavy piano house/deep house fusion that is 'Sunlight'.

ETA Infinity (Frenzy mix) (11:17)
Review: Levon Vincent returns to his beloved Novel Sound imprint with a sturdy two-tracker here titled 'ETA Infinity', which is described as being reminiscent of 'Limelight-era NYC street techno beats'. On the A side, you've got the dubby, greyscale stomp of the Warm mix which is loaded directly off the factory floor - proper basement vibes on this one. Over on the flip is the linear and hypnotic redux of the Frenzy mix, letting that steely melodic bass line in the vein of classic Basic Channel lead the way.

Review: Novel Sound main man Levon Vincent returns to follow up a slew of releases this year, namely the terrific Enchanted Cosmos EP from a few months ago. On the A side of this one, you have the emotive and contemplative deepness of 'Julius Cease ' and its utterly hypnotic melody playing centre stage. Turn over to hear the dense bass and stirring drums on the sweaty basement jam 'Years Of Your Life' that's definitely on a vibe not too dissimilar from his 2009 classic 'Double Jointed Sex Freak'.

4am Rush (10:07)
Review: Techno terminator Levon Vincent never misses. He doesn't release often but when he does it always feels like an event. Here appearing on his pwn Novel Sound he opens with 'So Good', an intense track which layers up the steel plated synth stabs, vast, grainy hi hats and swooshing and swwobpgin synth sounds. It's a powerful track that will make for an intense dance floor experience. '4am Rush' is even better. It has futuristic synths searching a late night metropolis with distant sirens and crashing hits all making for a serene, uplifting vibe that will take you to a place of subtle euphoria.

Enchanted Cosmos (reprise) (9:41)
Review: Lately, Levon Vincent has begun to serve up especially long tracks. At the start of the year, he delivered the 14-minute techno opus 'Cyclops Trx', following it up with two more stretched-out dancefloor workouts ('Riding Alongside The Ocean' and 'So Good'). He's at it again on 'Enchanted Cosmos', a 13-minute slab of deep space techno in which echoing, dub techno style riffs ride a sweaty drum machine rhythm and a driving, acidic bassline. Turn to side B and you'll find the 'Reprise' mix, a stripped-back and even more mind-altering interpretation to adds glacial synth sounds and wilder acid lines to the long-serving producer's heavy techno beats.

Review: What a roller coaster ride Levon Vincent has had over the years, from esteemed techno darling to being cancelled for weird views on carry knives via a well received return in the form of a thoughtful - and free - full length. The studio wizard is now back doing what he does best on his own Novel Sound with a magnificently deep, epic and alluring 14 minute opus, 'Cyclops Trx 1.' It shimmers with bright harmonies layered over deep rooted beats and looks you in a state of trance. 'Cyclops Trx 2' is a gridding house groove a la Omar S, with innocently naive and dancing chords easily finding their way into your heart.

War Phase (version) (7:37)
Falling Out The Cars (8:39)
Review: After his controversial remarks regarding the 2015 Paris attacks and the following act of contrition in the form of the For Paris full length, New York born producer Levon Vincent gets on with things in fine fashion here. A side cut "War Phase" (version) likely gets its name from the missile strike sounds that shriek from above crunchy and dusted down analogue rhythms - the bouncy and cavernous boom of an 808 and its cracking claps that shimmer in endless trails of reverb. It could sure cause some drama on the dancefloor, during a moment of downtime. On the flip, it's a much deeper affair on "Falling Out The Cars". Said to be inspired by the night a friend ate too many baked potatoes and ran himself over while being sick - but that's another story! We do know that this one will hypnotise you into submission with its evocative, finely executed dub-chords, ethereal atmosphere and smoky drums.

Bells Phase (Phasing Tribal House) (10:51)
Review: During last year's extended pandemic-related lockdowns, Levon Vincent spent more time in his studio than he has in years. He's been releasing the results this year and plenty of people have (rightly) been impressed with the epic, analogue-rich jams Vincent has shared. His latest two tracker - the NYC producer's fifth of 2021 - continues in a similar vein to its predecessors. While confirmed fans will lap up flipside 'Bells Phase (Phasing Tribal House)' - a surging, slowly building affair that sees a chiming melody ride a scuzzy techno groove - it's the more musically expansive A-side, 'We Will Dance Together Again' that really hits the spot. A near 15-minute excursion that peppers a jacking machine groove with warming live keys, pulsating bass and lovely musical flourishes, it's one of Vincent'smost positive-sounding tracks to date.

Legowelt - "Blue Austral Techno" (7:26)
Joey Anderson - "Opened Gate" (5:58)
Central - "Six Five Two" (7:38)
Review: Dekmantel has wheeled out the big guns for this third volume in their 10th anniversary vinyl series. Mr Consistency himself, Leon Vincent, kicks things off with "UK Spring Vibes", a pleasingly deep and softly spoken shuffler piled high with attention-grabbing analogue bass, stretched-out chords and twinkling piano flourishes. Legowelt excels himself (as usual) on the darting, synth-heavy intergalactic fun of "Blue Astral Techno", while Joey Anderson is an ultra-positive mood on the melodious, slightly melancholy, synth-heavy deep house of "Opened Gate". Central's "Six Five Two", a wavy and Balearic-minded trip though gentle, sun-kissed sounds and bubbling electronic rhythms, draws a fine EP to a close with an intoxicating flourish.

Review: Hot on the heels of his widely acclaimed debut album, Levon Vincent delivers more intoxicating, synthesizer-heavy techno treats on the Novel Sound label that's been his home since 2008. "Fear" has been an in-demand since it was featured on his Fabric mix back in 2012, and remains one of Vincent's most striking compositions - a spacey, melancholic mixture of classic Detroit influences, unfussy deep house beats and new wave-era synth and bass touches. The flip boasts a more recent collaboration between Vincent and Marcel Dettmann, which is equally as tasty. "Vengeance" is synthesizer-heavy and intergalactic in design, with EBM style motifs and tumbling, atmospheric melodies riding a similarly no-nonsense groove. Pink T-Rex vinyl too!
