Tide (Japanese Edition) CD

The late Antonio Carlos Jobim (sometimes known in the Anglophile world as 'Tom Jobim') is widely regarded as the founding father of bossa-nova. When the sound became popular in the United States in the early 1960s, American editions of his albums - full of laid-back samba and bossa rhythms, luascious orchestration and sunny solos - sold like hot cakes. Tide, which is reissued here on CD in Japanese edition form, dates from 1970 and - unusually given that he was a renowned arranger and bandleader - features Jobim as the featured performer (alongside a cast that includes Ron Carter on double bass), with another Brazilian maestro, Deodata, handling production and arrangement. The included tracks include interpretations of some of Jobim's most famous compositions, not least the much-covered 'Girl From Ipanema'.
