Let It Go (instrumental) (3:27)
Review: Lawson Jr'Music is based in Montreal in Canada and is a drummer, singer and music composer who has played all over the world since a young age. He brings a distinctive Afro vibe to his take on hip hop as demonstrated by this masterful new cut on BSide/Lawson Entertainment. 'Let It Go' is defined by its screwy bass down low and the echoing hits up top. Aside from that I'd an empty but atmospheric cut with yearning vocals and melancholic chords. The flispide instrumental allows the slick production to shine.

Review: This six-track EP, crated between the late 'Cloud rap' icon and producer Nedarb Nagrom, is a miraculous refind and repress. The EP originally dropped in 2016 during the early wave of Peep's rise to the broth cream of the etherground emo rap and SoundCloud scene. Peep was still in the thick of lo-fi, punk and emo experimentations, and fellow traveller Nedarb had already been a frequent collaborator. The Katy Perry song referenced in the title is a red herring, as these tracks are original internet artefacts through and through, bearing none of the same pop sensibilities; they're loose and aerated, packing slipshod 808s and drawly hooks from the pink-haired icon.

Review: LSD’s Remixes EP channels the group’s genre-blurring ethos into a collection that thrives on reinvention. Lil Wayne’s charged verse on ‘Genius’ adds grit without overshadowing the original’s playful intensity. MK’s remix of ‘Thunderclouds’ transforms its soaring vocals into a deep house anthem, all pulsing bass and late-night allure. Banx & Ranx’s reggae-infused take on ‘Genius’ radiates sun-soaked warmth, while Dombresky’s remix of ‘No New Friends’ packs a punch with relentless house energy. CID’s rework of ‘Audio’ dials up crisp, percussive beats that slice through its melodic core. Meanwhile, The Aston Shuffle injects ‘Heaven Can Wait’ with shimmering synth layers, balancing nostalgia with dancefloor readiness. Lost Frequencies’ remix of ‘Thunderclouds’ closes the record on a euphoric high, reframing its introspection with bright, festival-ready optimism. This is LSD’s universe expanded — familiar yet thrillingly unpredictable.

Review: Many critics have dubbed Lady Gaga's Mayhem, the superstar's latest full-length excursion, as a return to her pop roots - not to mention her strongest and most coherent set since breakthrough album Fame. Recorded at Rick Rubin's studio with the help of a crack team of producers, the assembled songs variously draw on synth-pop, EDM style pop-house, gritty industrial funk, the gnarled strut of electroclash and, perhaps more surprisingly, guitar-driven alt-rock. Naturally, Gaga is in fine form throughout, sassily and confidently delivering lyrics that muse on "love, chaos, fame and desire". This Japanese CD edition comes bundled with an art card, stickers and an expansive booklet.

Review: This record marks a bold return to Lady Gaga's pop roots. It fuses the eclectic energy that first captivated her fans with a new and ever-fearless artistic vision that means she delves into themes of chaos and transformation while celebrating music's ability to unite, provoke and heal. Gaga has said that the album began as a response to her fear of returning to the pop sound her early fans loved. Far from merely nostalgic, Mayhem reinvents her signature style with a kaleidoscopic approach by drawing from her broad musical influences. Gaga compared the creative process to "reassembling a shattered mirror," and has created something beautifully new from the pieces.

Review: Harlequin, Lady Gaga's latest project, marks yet another bold and triumphant return for the pop icon. Initially seeming like an unusual conceptia Joker-inspired album with swingy jazz and American songbook classicsiit surprisingly works, showcasing Gaga's signature playful and bold artistry. The album's vibrant opener, 'Good Morning,' kicks off with big energy, while 'Oh, When the Saints' spirals into delicious chaos. Her potent vocal delivery paired with electrifying instrumentals means this is an album full of spark and even quieter tracks like 'Smile' and the original title cut form the movie 'Folie a Deux' reveal deep emotional sincerity. Harlequin is a playful and unapologetic work that proves Gaga is in fine form.

Review: Returning after a veritable splash in the chart-topping world of pop nearly ten years ago - and having laid down three full studio albums already - Zara Larsson fleshes out her brand evermore with the upcoming fourth LP, Venus. In keeping with a full Larsson coming-of-age, the Swedish it-girl fulfils her promise of an album chock-full of "uptempo, fun dance songs", albeit with an glitzier edge, and the sound of an artist assuming more ownership over her output, centring on the theme of feminine autonomy in the form of tracks like 'Can't Tame Her' and 'On My Love' with David Guetta. She's come a long, long way from 'Lush Life', exploring a multi-temporal brand of electronic pop and reclaiming her place in the limelight.

Review: Avril Lavigne's The Best Damn Thing marked a return to her pop-punk roots when it dropped in 2007, shedding the sombre tones of her previous album, Under My Skin. Embracing an unapologetically energetic and bubblegum sound, Lavigne delivers an album filled with catchy, anthemic tracks. The lead single, 'Girlfriend,' with its infectious hook borrowed from Toni Basil's 'Mickey,' sets the tone for a record bursting with potential hits. Songs like 'I Can Do Better,' 'Everything Back But You' and the title track showcase Lavigne's knack for crafting empowering, high-energy anthems. The Best Damn Thing proves Lavigne's ability to navigate pop-punk territory with confidence, ensuring her place as a standout in the genre - fans of early Sum 41 and Pink will find much to love here.

Review: Avril Lavigne's debut album Let Go remains a significant pop punk milestone. Emerging from Napanee, Ontario, Lavigne swiftly transitioned from singing Pentecostal hymns to winning a singing contest to perform with Shania Twain. By 2002, she transformed into a pop-punk icon, delivering hits like 'Complicated' and 'Sk8er Boi.' Her collaboration with the Matrix production team brought forth a blend of scrappy attitude and polished pop melodies, resulting in genre-defining tracks. Songs like 'I'm With You' and 'Anything but Ordinary' showcased her emotional depth and vocal prowess. Let Go's success, now certified platinum seven times over, paved the way for alternative-influenced pop, influencing a generation of artists and solidifying Lavigne's legacy. Now reissued on turquoise vinyl, Let Go continues to resonate as a raw and vibrant portrayal of teenage angst and authenticity.

Review: Avril Lavigne's Under My Skin stands out as an underrated album in her career. While lacking big hits like her debut, this album has higher-quality songwriting and a more refined execution of her signature sound. The album's ballads, though fewer in number, feel more sincere and impactful, with tracks like 'Don't Tell Me' resonating even today. The pop-punk tracks also shine, with songs like 'He Wasn't' and 'I Always Get What I Want' surpassing her previous hits in energy and grit. Lavigne's vocal performance is a highlight, especially evident on tracks like 'Forgotten' and 'Slipped Away,' where her range and emotion shine through. Under My Skin not only fixes issues from her debut but also elevates her songwriting and performance, making it a record of the 2000s that deserves more recognition. Now on marbled grey vinyl, another reason to dive in and purchase.

Review: Goodbye Lullaby, Avril Lavigne's fourth studio album, reissued on white vinyl, delves deeply into the emotional turmoil following her divorce from Sum 41's Deryck Whibley. The album oscillates between defiant anthems like 'What The Hell' and 'Smile,' and heartfelt ballads that reflect a pervasive sense of lost love. Tracks like 'Not Enough' and 'Push' showcase Lavigne's struggle with discontent and failed expectations, while the bittersweet 'I Love You' poignantly captures the inevitability of love's demise. The closing track, 'Lullaby,' encapsulates the album's overarching theme of defeat and departure, leaving listeners with a sense of unresolved melancholy. This reissue celebrates Lavigne's ability to convey genuine heartbreak.

Review: Mind Games, John Lennon's fourth solo album released in late October 1973, arrived amid personal turmoil and political unrest, reflecting Lennon's ongoing battles with US immigration and his anti-Vietnam war activism. Recorded at NYC's Record Plant with a stellar lineup of musicians, the album is overseen by Yoko Ono Lennon and produced by Sean Ono Lennon, offering a fully remixed and expanded audio experience. Lennon's songwriting delves into his relationship with Ono, showcasing heartfelt tracks like the title song and 'Aisumasen (I'm Sorry),' imbued with sincerity and emotion. Other highlights include the politically charged 'Bring On the Lucie (Freda People)' and the '50s-inspired 'Tight A$.' The album excels in composition, production, and lyrical depth, epitomizing Lennon's creative strength. Mind Games sees Lennon's resilience and artistic evolution. Its eclectic mix of themes and musical styles, from rock to balladry, renders it a timeless classic. With its heartfelt sincerity and imaginative flair, Mind Games remains a great listen through Lennon's multifaceted artistry.

Review: The all-female African supergroup Les Amazones d'Afrique, who've included some of the biggest stars in African music, here make a triumphant return, channelling a fresh sound on their third album Musow Danse. Forming in Bamako, Mali, in 2014 between three renowned Malian musicians and activists - Mamani Keita, Oumou Sangare and Mariam Doumbia - Les Amazones d'Afrique has since expanded to involve many female artists from across Africa and the diaspora. Combining a just cause - campaigning for gender equality and eradicating ancestral violence - with a slick, enticingly trap-influenced sound; we've got a potent cocktail on our hands. Richly melodic and far-ranging, Musow Danse blends pan-African styles and collaborative harmonies with gritty, contemporary pop, riffing off the idiosyncratic Congotronics producer Doctor L, and embracing a powerful pop sound led by 808s and glitchy synths.

Review: A new compilation which looks to celebrate the unheralded period of hugely successful Isle of Wight pop/funk band Level 42, named that after their cult funk days in the early 80s and their chart-topping victories in the middle and end of the decade. Music on Vinyl helps celebrate their 90s years with this compilation that spans the albums Guaranteed (1991) and Forever Now (1994). Originally released in 2007, this limited edition 2xLP set, pressed on vibrant 180-gram yellow vinyl, highlights the band's unique blend of funk, pop and jazz influences, with a mix of infectious grooves and introspective lyrics. The first side opens with the title track, 'Past Lives', a slick funk-driven number that sets the tone for the compilation, followed by the energetic 'Guaranteed' and the introspective 'Overtime'. Tracks like 'My Father's Shoes' explore deeper emotional landscapes, while 'Forever Now' explores the band's ability to craft smooth, soulful anthems. Side three is a ideal, featuring the infectious 'Model Friend' and the jazzy 'Romance'. Meanwhile, 'One in a Million' is a perfect example of the band's ability to blend pop hooks with sophisticated arrangements. Side four closes the compilation on a high note with 'If You Were Mine', a catchy, uplifting finale. The four-page booklet provides context for this fruitful period in Level 42's career, and the limited yellow vinyl adds an extra layer of collectible charm.

Departing from their jam-based roots, the band embraced a more structured songwriting process and also set to work producing the album themselves with engineer Julian Mendelsohn. The result was a polished, pop-funk breakthrough led by the hit single 'Something About You' which of course became a Top 10 hit worldwide, including in the U.S. Follow-up singles like the emotive 'Leaving Me Now' and the infectious "'World Machine' cemented the album's success and helped mark a major turning point in the band's career and 80s pop history.

Review: On reissued orange vinyl comes the debut set of sonic missives from house and easy listening via trip-hop heartthrobs Lighthouse Family; a miraculous birth for the duo of Tunde Baiyewu and Paul Tucker. This resplendent 1995 LP lay bare the pop dance musical sensibility of the time; string hit samples, synth funk basses, and a dark mode, prescient of the the leather-jacketed cool that would later peak on release of the first Matrix film. The code of cinematic chic is palpable here; songs that would otherwise qualify only as sparsely punctuated, pop lounge-funk come heavily tempered and assoiled by trilling, massive-attacked string backings ('Let It All Change', for example), producing a thrower-backer but still a classic record.

Embracing psychedelic and Britpop influences, the album explores themes of resilience, growth, and the power of optimism. Inspired by her hometown of London and the energy of the 90s Britpop scene, Lipa aims to capture the essence of youth and freedom through her music. Review: Seven years ago, Dua Lipa's debut album marked a confident, powerful entry into the pop scene. The British-Albanian singer effortlessly fused tropical house, EDM,and sleek pop with a distinct sense of self-assurance. Tracks like 'New Rules' and 'Hotter Than Hell' highlighted her knack for crafting catchy, anthemic hits, while 'Blow Your Mind (Mwah)' showcased her unapologetic style. Collaborations with Miguel and Chris Martin added depth, but it was her commanding presence that stole the spotlight on tracks like 'Lost in Your Light' and 'IDGAF', an empowering anthem of self-worth. While moments like the vulnerable 'Homesick' brought a quieter, introspective side, the album remained a consistent celebration of confidence, joy and resilience. This limited-edition picture disc version offers a tangible connection to this defining moment in pop music, celebrating an artist who knew exactly how to own her moment.

Review: On Alter Ego, LISA steps into a darker, more experimental space, leaving her pop roots behind while retaining that undeniable vocal presence. Review: Quiet revolution seems to be the driving force of this sophomore set from lauded trio London Grammar. Lyricist and vocalist Hannah Reid has expanded her subject matter a little, though angst and love lost are still her major concern. Her delivery, too, is a little gentler, something presumably party inspired by the band's warmer and dreamier musical outlook. There are a few heartfelt sing-alongs, of course, but for the most part Truth is a Beautiful Thing is a more considered and voluptuous excursion.

Review: English indie pop outfit London Grammar has already teased fans about their new album with four singles 'Baby It's You', 'Lose Your Head' and 'How Does It Feel'. They were all well received and gave a good indication of what to expect from the full length itself. Vocalist Hannah Reid has explained that lyrically the record delves into the issues of feminism and fame and "gaining possession of my own life." Her bold lyricism is combined with lively musical accompaniments which helps mark a notable sonic shift from previous works.

The band say it is a celebration of artistic freedom and comes after a period of chance in which some of them have had children, they have toured the world and sold tree million albums, had two number one hits and picked dup accolades like the Ivor Novello award and BRIT nominations. It embodies newfound confidence and creative liberation amidst personal challenges and industry scrutiny, and features a boundary-pushing sound that blends electronica with pop.

Review: Some Lorde fans were a little irritated by 'Solar Power', the lead single from her comeback album of the same name, primarily because it sounded far more influenced by cheery '90s indie-pop and summery blue-eyed soul than her moodier early work. She's carried that over into album, which arrives as a boxed high-res download with tons of additional content (poster, postcards, booklet and so on). The singer-songwriter's first set in for years is full of gently warming fare, from the opaque, dewy-eyed folk of 'Stoned in the Nail Station', to the early 2000s R&B-pop-goes-summer soul flex of recent single 'Mood Ring'. There's no glum moodiness here, just gently positive music to raise your mood in these most testing of times.
