Review: Megastar siblings Billie and Finnean Eilish are known for their original music that by and large appeals to the TikTok and Instagram generation, but occasionally, they set their sights on composing for movie franchises (James Bond, etc). They do the same again here; UMC throw a rather odd yet charming curveball and release their whippersnapping original songs made for Pixar's Turning Red on translucent 7" vinyl.

Review: It's a match made in Balearic heaven. Ela Minus, Colombia-born, Brooklyn-based artist, best known for building synths, placing agitational statements between her carefully woven ambient melodies and her Acts Of Rebellion album, meets fellow New Yorker DJ Python, he of the hypnotic dembow stylings, for a bumper value-packed six track EP. Ghostly vocals float across stark beats and sometime gloomy, sometime edgy but cheery dayglo musical textures on the three vocal versions, and there are three instrumentals for those who prefer their grooves that way.

Toxic (3:29)
Waterfalls (3:24)
Review: Japanese rocksteady and reggae revivalists Inokisara Rangers have spent much of their career delivering radical cover versions of everything from Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and New Order's 'Blue Monday' to Pharrel Williams' 'Happy' and Underworld's 'Born Slippy'. They're at it again on their latest "45", with vocalist Yuima Enya joining them for two more ear-catching reggae revisions. On side A they offer-up a typically jaunty, organ-heavy take on Britney Spears/Mark Ronson favourite 'Toxic', reimagining it as a cheery and skanking reggae-soul bumper. Arguably even better is the flipside cover of R&B classic 'Waterfalls', which in their hands becomes a slow-motion reggae sing-along.

Review: This great looking - and sounding - Fallen Angel 12" brings together some choice remixes of Erasure's 'The Neon" with the likes of reworks from Georgia and Bright Light Bright Light siting pretty next to previously unreleased mixes by Nimmo, Initial Talk and Daybreakers. This special edition also packs in a fantastic extended mix by the cult 80s band's own electronic innovator, Vince Clarke. Pressed on to dazzling neon orange wax and in a printed mirror board sleeve, this is an absolute must for Erasure fans.

Review: The still only 19-year-old Billie Eilish is one of the breakout stars of the last few years. Fans have been patiently awaiting her second album for a while, and finally the 16 track opus landed this week. It has already been described as a full and complete listening experience by those who have indulged. Her debut was a multi-GRAMMY Award, record-breaking affair and this one once again features no outside songwriters or producers. Billie wrote it all, and her brother Finneas produced it in Los Angeles. The tracks cover plenty of ground from heart broken and tender to full of angst and fizzing electronic sound.

Review: Originally only available as a digital download on Billie Eilish's D2C store, this new vinyl version which features the album's isolated vocal recordings and presents a raw and stripped-back version that highlights the power of Billie's voice. Pressed exclusively for RSD Indie Black Friday, it includes a unique inverted album cover. The original album is some of the cult pop singer's most daring work to date, exploring a blend of genres and defied trends during the creative process with her brother Finneas in Los Angeles. It made for another cohesive and emotionally impactful journey from start to finish.

Review: Founded in the winter of 2011 into 2022, Eisfabrik are Dr. Schnee (aka Charly Barth-Ricklefs), Der Frost (aka Gerrit Thomas), -Celsius ( aka Jan Bertram) and Fahrenheit (aka Rene Dornbusch). As per those pseudonyms, there's something very world-building about the group's output, with their sound a ferocious and fantastical pop-dance hybrid. It's theatrical to the point of surrealism, although always remains resolutely grounded in familiar genres. Not least trance, booming power synth, coldwave and - to a lesser extent - NRG hard house. Definitely not for shrinking violets, while some tracks here appear to owe something to stadium EDM ('Gotter In Weiss', 'Lost My Mind'), others are rooted in darker, more experimental ends of Casio culture - Gary Numan, David Bowie, Pet Shop Boys - with BPMs to prove it.

Review: Habibi Funk gets yet another compilation released in his honour, this time shedding light on the takeoff period in the Libyan synthfunk artist's career: when he had just left his home country to pursue stardom in Egypt and London. Unbridled happiness and sun oozes from this comp, centring on the smash hit, lovers' anthem 'Ayonha', as well as nigh-forgotten earlier gems like 'Shantet Safar' and 'Reet'. Ghostly vocal processing and folk-funk production permeates; 'Maktoub Aleina' in particular is one club classic we won't hold with you forgetting. Now residing back in Cairo, Hamid was more than approving of this release, knowing full well that the tracks on it deserved much more praise than they received back in the day.

Review: Iconic movie classic Beetlejuice is back and we for one have enjoyed its return. Tim Burton's 1988 cult classic has been reimagined for modern audiences in 2014 and came complete with a new soundtrack. The original score, composed by the legendary Danny Elfman, blends whimsical melodies with eerie undertones, perfectly capturing the film's quirky and haunting vibe. Highlights of the original include Elfman's iconic main titles, which have become synonymous with Burton's gothic style. The new soundtrack also features standout tracks like Alfie Davis & The Sylvia Young Theatre School Choir's rendition of 'Day-O' and Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting," adding fresh dimensions to this timeless, offbeat classic.

Review: Nothing much compares to watching a Tim Burton movie. The macabre fantasy director, animator, author and artist has essentially built one of the most vivid fictional universes of all time for himself, his fans and characters. A place of outsiders, for outsiders, where leftfield and gothicism reign supreme, the original Beetlejuice is one of the defining films in that oeuvre, so pressure was on when the sequel was announced. If you're yet to see it, let's swerve opinionated spoilers and stick to what we can say - Danny Elfman's iconic theme tune is still as wonderfully evocative as ever, and the compiled soundtrack is great. Donna Summer, Sigur Ros, Scott Weiland... with the inclusion of Pino Donaggio's deceptively serene 'Main Title From Carrie', from the nightmarish 1976 Sissy Spacek version of Carrie, is a stroke of aural comedic genius.

Review: Sophie Ellis Bextor has been one of the unlikely stars of the lockdown year that was. She decided to host her own live stream live from home for many of the early months. Her distinctive brand of super carefree and upbeat pop was a perfect tonic for dark days with nothing to do and she got many a TV appearance out of it afterwards. Now new pliable Plastic Pop kicks off by making her debut album Read My Lips available for the very first time on double red vinyl. It includes the big tunes everyone and their mum knows from 'Murder on the Dancefloor' to 'Take Me Home (A Girl Like Me)' but also plenty more delightful pop nuggets and even some oddball stuff like 'Sparkle.'

Review: Dance-pop disco queen and a star of the Covid lockdowns thanks to the fun sessions she hosted from home, Sophie Ellis Bextor remains a much-loved UK treasure. Makes A Scene was her fourth studio album and it came back in 2011 on her own label EBGBs. It featured plenty of hits including 'Heartbreak (Make Me a Dancer)', a collaboration with the Freemasons, and 'Can't Fight This Feeling', which was a collaboration with Junior Caldera. It remains one of her most upbeat and danceable records and now gets reissued on magenta gatefold vinyl.

This is her fourth album titled Ok Respira and features a wide selection of songs which demonstrate her many diverse talents as an artist. Whether it's Eurodance, EDM, deep house/disco, and straight-up pop that she's made her name with, and of course there's the song 'Due' which she premiered at this year's edition of San Remo Music Festival to much fanfare.

To Us All
Review: On the face of it, this full-length collaboration between ambient legend Brian Eno and Underworld's Karl Hyde is an enticing proposition. With the duo's respective track records, you'd expect Someday World to be a bit of a cracker. Somewhat surprisingly, it's not quite as stunning as you might expect but there are enough brilliant moments to warrant further investigation. Check, for example, the slowly building sci-fi jazz madness of "When I Built This All", the jaunty, off-kilter beauty of the Different Trains-inspired "Strip It Down" and the textured, shoegaze-tinged "To Us All"; all three are simply superb.
