Review: The story goes with this one that a collective of seasoned musicians came together and discovered a rare camaraderie. With no hesitation, they poured their everything out onto tape and the results are now presented here on this one-sided and etched 12" under the title Better Lovers. Out features former Every Time I Die members Jordan Buckley on guitar, Steve Micciche on bass, and Clayton "Goose" Holyoak on drums with frontman Greg Puciato on vocals and Grammy-winning producer Will Putney. The music is dense metal with walls of sound washing over you and full of big guitar riffs, guttural vocals and dark energy.

Review: BMG reissue the second ever release by the pioneering Swiss extreme metal band Celtic Frost, originally released in 1985 as an EP. Emperor's Return often goes criminally undersung as a fleshing-out of black metal as a genre, with the bleak imagery surrounding it going on to cement the style as its own niche. Their first record to feature American drummer Reid Cruickshank (aka Reed St. Mark), the EP comprises five thrash-come-black metal rabble-rousers, ahead of their time for 1985.

Review: Following on from last year's crushing debut full-length, 'The Codex Of Flesh', Colorado Springs deathcore new schoolers, Crown Magnetar, return with the visceral 'Alone In Death' EP. Combining all facets of the genre from the brutally heavy to the obscenely technical, their myriad cacophony careens with zero warning into obliterating blast beats, mammoth breakdowns and caustic, malevolent shrieks. For a subgenre once so maligned and snobbed, it's releases like this that serve as testament to the vitality and staying power of such a twisted hybrid.

Black Hell
Black Hell (orange & black haze vinyl 12")
Cat: CLOLP 5392.
Review: While initially appearing on the soundtrack to the second instalment of The Hangover trilogy (no, seriously), the evil Elvis himself, better known as Glenn Danzig of Misfits/Samhain/anything horror, punk or goth, has finally made 'Black Hell' available on wax for the first time since release on both limited orange splattered 7" and this orange and black haze 12" pressing, while its specific coincidental colours aesthetically fit with and land right in time for All Hallow's Eve. Featuring 'Thirteen' on the B-side (taken from Danzig 6:66 Satan's Child while better known by the Johnny Cash rendition), there's no better slice of ghoulish PVC to soundtrack the bravery of trick or treaters or your own costumed debauchery.

When Good Dogs Do Bad Things (8:08)
Come To Daddy (5:52)
Review: In the transitional period after their complex, chaotic debut, 'Calculating Infinity', departure of founding vocalist Dmitiri Minikakis, and before the arrival of hyper terrifying frontman Greg Puciato, mathcore legends Dillinger Escape Plan were at a loss.

Still not content on a suitable permanent vocal replacement yet refusing to simply sit on their hands in the interim, the 'Irony Is A Dead Scene' EP served as a creative outlet turned fan favourite and cult classic, thanks in no small part to the enlisting of Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Dead Cross (etc.) vocalist/absurdist extraordinaire Mike Patton.

The weirdness and sickly, sexy snarl Patton imbued into the dizzying arrangements and audible assault would leave a lasting impact on the Dillinger trajectory from then on, with a much more tempered focus on industrial, groove and ambient nuances, while cuts would never stray too far from live sets.

The fact that at their three New York farewell shows, the band even performed the EP in its entirety with Patton joining them on stage, speaks volumes to the credence, regard and influence these four tracks would have on the remainder of their career for decades to come.

Also, while 'When Good Dogs Do Bad Things' may be the centrepiece, the cover of Aphex Twin's 'Come To Daddy' needs to be heard to be believed, even just to hear founding drummer Chris Penney figure out that percussion on a live kit.

A four-track EP, yes, but also one of the most intrinsic pieces of the Dillinger catalogue.

Aurora Leaking (2:33)
Swarming Hornets (1:39)
Blinding Erasure (2:18)
Review: Originally released in 2022 as a tour-exclusive physical-only edition, in an attempt "to give people a chance to experience our records for the first time again on a physical format and to give the people at our shows the first chance to do so", Baltimore deathgrind extreme metal auteurs Full Of Hell have finally re-pressed their chaotic Aurora Leaking From An Open Wound 7" for mass decimation. Totalling at six minutes spread out over three cuts of reliably horrific, cascading, blackened grinding hardcore mayhem, the project can now be viewed through a more retrospective lens following their expansive forays into grunge, noise-rock and shoegaze on last year's Nothing collaborative LP When No Birds Sang as well as their latest genre-dissolving fever-dream of a sixth full-length Coagulated Bliss. Take note, this single offers none of these future melodic and dynamic experiments, staying firmly rooted in their original domain of caustic, industrial-tinged cavernous dread.

Review: Phantomimea arrives through Loma Vista Recordings and is a brilliant new five-track cover EP from Ghost. Each and every tune is epic in its own way with material by Television, Genesis, The Stranglers, Iron Maiden and Tina Turner all chewed up and sat out in their own inimitable way. Though some of these sources are rather unlikely given Ghost's style they are all reworked with great respect. Ghost is in a great run of form having just won Best Rock Album of the Year at the iHeart Radio Music Awards, which itself came off last year's international chart-topping success Impera.

Review: A fresh, rare EP by Swedish rock band Ghost; Phantomime is an impressive side-stint for the band, its gimmick being five covers of standards by other prominent groups throughout the rock continuum. Flaunting their impressive and eclectic tastes, the EP contains covers of Television's 'See No Evil', Genesis' 'Jesus He Knows Me', The Stranglers' 'Hanging Around', Maiden's 'Phantom Of The Opera' and, yes, Tina Turner's 'We Don't Need Another Hero'. A fan service for the band's devilishly cultish followers, we're sure this'll successfully function as both a history lesson and fan initiation ritual.

Wrathchild (2:58)
Transylvania (4:05)
Review: Taken from a live performance at the Aichi Kosei Nenkin Kaikan in Chikusa-ku, Nagoya, Aichi, Japan on 23 May 1981, and featuring the final recorded output from Iron Maiden with vocalist Paul Di'Anno before his being ousted to make way for Bruce Dickinson. Pressed on numerous versions due to the band's initial reluctance to release any of the live material as they were planning an internal line-up shift, the artwork to one version even depicted their mascot Eddie holding up the severed head of Di'Anno, but this was rejected upon being viewed by their manager Rod Smallwood. This succinct variant captures both 'Wrathchild' and 'Transylvania' from the iconic/controversial performance and offers a slice of proto-Dickinson Maiden exuding the prowess that had already set them on the path to metallic greatness before they'd even hit their creative/career peak.

No Presents For Christmas (4:30)
Charon (4:19)
Review: The first King Diamond song to ever be released, 'No Presents for Christmas' was originally released in 1985, and now Metal Blade Records is heard reissuing this 2-track classic on vinyl. In the words of the King himself, who offered an up-to-date comment on the classic festive heavy metal subversion, not to mention its stonkingly eerie new album cover: "it looks like something you would find in the Christmas albums aisle alongside Frank Sinatra. It has the Christmas feeling, but with something dark and sinister when you examine it more closely. I look like a ghost - the ghost of trying to destroy Christmas!" Coming thick and fast with the just-as-hard headbanger 'Charon'; whichever Christmas ghosts you choose to conjure this year-end, no amount of wishful thinking can ever truly deny the omnipresence of the Ghost of Christmas Stinginess. Truly, with King Diamond, we are duly reminded that there is always a dark side to our cheer.

Charon (4:19)
Review: Released almost 40 years ago, No Presents For Christmas was the ultimate anti-Christmas song from metal provocateur extraordinaires King Diamond. Originally landing in time for Chrimbo 1985, this latest 12" reissue immortalises the bizarre piece of metallic eccentricity for new generations to come, and even boasts 'Charon'; a deep cut from the band's seminal debut album Fatal Portrait, on the b-side. Elaborating on the new gaudy cover and reasoning behind the repress, the King himself has decreed: "Livia worked on the glass mansion on the cover - it's a mansion she designed that I just loved and said we must use this for something! The cover came out exactly how we wanted it to, and it looks like something you would find in the Christmas albums aisle alongside Frank Sinatra. It has the Christmas feeling, but with something dark and sinister when you examine it more closely. I look like a ghost - the ghost of trying to destroy Christmas!"

Review: RECOMMENDED
17 albums in and it feels like Napalm Death are only just hitting their stride. Well, they've been hitting their stride for roughly 17 albums, but while many bands - especially those at the more frenetic and uncompromising end of things - tend to start, err, compromising after four or five long forms, the Birmingham grindcore masters still sound fresh. Albeit fresh but covered in sweat and rage.

Following on from 2020's Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism, Resentment is a mini-LP that picks up where its predecessor left off. Among the highlights is a fantastic cover of 1980s industrial electronic outfit Slab!, but really it's nigh-on-impossible to pick specifics here - buckle up, turn it up, and let the ferocity wash over you. Suffice to say, keeping this level of intensity without winding up sounding like you're screaming into the abyss isn't easy, and Napalm Death's career should be considered a masterclass.

The Clarity (9:58)
Review: The THC-abusing hordes who comprise Sleep's fanbase will be relieved to note that this single-sided 12" is very much on the same interstellar wavelength as their previous work in the '90s, in which they gave birth to a metaphysically magnificent stoner sound that followed on from Black Sabbath's lead to spawn a legion of imitators, and absolutely none the worse for that. The colossal riffage of Matt Pike, the devotional chant of Al Cisneros. the rock-solid percussion of Neurosis man and relative new guy Jason Roeder - all add up to a sound not unlike a radio transmission from a planet hurtling to meets its doom in the gravity of an enormous flaming star. Turn on, tune in, burn out.

Review: Weighty new thrash record from Sodom, transcending the boundaries of squeal for a biting and demonic new sound. This is the 12" we needed, following a digipak version and last year's full-length Genesis XIX. This three-track EP includes an exclusive re-recording of the title track and live staple 'Bombenhagel'; translating from German to mean "hail of bombs", it tuly does sound like just that, dealing lyrically with the horrors of Nazi bombing raids during World War II.

Review: Louisiana based sludge/doom metal auteurs, Thou, have compiled a series of unique cover versions they've originally sent out into the world at differing periods of time via online outlets, onto one cohesive compilation. Typically, cryptically lacking any notable markings to specify the origins of its vague packaging, this is a onetime only pressing, featuring monumental reimaginings of cuts from the likes of Pearl Jam ('Tremor Christ'), to The Yeah Yeah Yeahs ('Maps', which must be heard to be believed). Even the incredible Neil Young tribute that is, 'Don't Let It Bring You Down', makes the entire project worth your sweet listening time, while proving yet again why Thou are unmatched in every facet of their approach and vision.

Review: Black Label Society main man Zakk Wylde initially made a name for himself in the metal scene operating as Ozzy Osbourne's touring guitarist for many a moon, while most recently, he's currently filling the boots of the late great Dimebag Darrell on the Pantera reunion/tribute tour. In amongst the bearded shredder's hectic schedule is his Zakk Sabbath love-letter tribute act to the pioneering metal giants of a phonetically similar moniker. The trio, rounded out by bassist Robert "Blasko" Nicholson (Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie) and drummer Joey Castillo (Danzig, Queens Of The Stone Age), are now set to unveil a 7" single of their cover of the iconic Paranoid closing track 'Fairies Wear Boots', which was originally intended as a touring exclusive but now will receive a follow up retail-wide distribution. Complete with an epic, faithful rendition of Master Of Reality deep cut 'Solitude' on the flip side, but peppered with enough sonic liberties to engage without invoking the ire of avid fans the world over, this is Sabbath worship done only the right way.

Review: Cleveland old school death metal revivalists 200 Stab Wounds have quickly made a name for themselves within the scene thanks to their retro-fitted brutality, immense heaviness and reluctance to shy away from the most depraved and gory of lyrical subject matter. Embraced by both the extreme metal and adjacent hardcore communities, and gearing up to unveil their highly anticipated sophomore effort, their new and highly revered label home Metal Blade has opted to reissue their punishing debut LP Slave To The Scalpel. Blast beats, breakneck riffs, monstrous heft and inhumane guttural vocals coalesce into hideous dirges, emboldened by the decidedly nineties production that eschews many of the modern triggers and lifeless production tricks that plague the scene, leading to murder music of the most authentic variety.

Their new album Manual Manic Procedures on Metal Blade Records is only heightening that reputation with another bold mix of high-quality death metal sounds that are seriously constructed but not too earnest in execution. This fine sophomore effort follows 2021's Slave to the Scalpel, a manic debut that is followed up by another hefty slab of old-school death metal but with a contemporary edge. If you like it hard and gore-themed with ferocious licks and unrelenting drums, get your ears around this one which deals with themes as diverse as chemical spills and mental health.

Noted for being the final studio endeavour before the departure of original guitarists Sunny Dhak and Bobby Froese (who would reform their prior band Pride Tiger), as well as being the only release to feature bassist Brian Redman and drummer Matt Wood, this Roadrunner Records debut established the band as metallic soothsayers of a retro-fitted variety, line up issues be damned. Following on from their punishing 2021 self-titled EP, the band's debut album Refracture weaves hyper-dense, virtuoso technicality with avant-garde compositional approaches, in order to audibly concoct the musical equivalent to falling endlessly through the void. Featuring members of Void Rot, Suffering Hour and Nothingness, their fluid cohesion marks a triumph for the modern scene of USDM, and implores listeners to surrender rather than mosh and allow the insidious sonic meanderings to enlighten and horrify in equally transcendent measure.

Review: Formed in 1995, Belgian death metal icons Aborted have become renowned for their dizzying technicality and seamless fusion of the more brutal and melodic aspects of the genre, all the while harbouring a major predilection towards grindcore. Signing to highly revered metal label Nuclear Blast for their 12th full-length Vault Of Horrors, the project takes an old school approach to lyrical inspiration with each of the cuts based off of specific, classic horror films, from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ('Death Cult') to Halloween ('The Shape of Hate') to Hellraiser ('Hellbound') to later morbid entries such as The Mist ('Malevolent Haze'). That's before even mentioning the ludicrous array of guest vocal features across the album, appearing more like a hip-hop record at first glance with practically every track offering room to the likes of Alex Erian (Despised Icon), Matt McGachy (Cryptopsy), and Jason Evans (Ingested) to name but a small handful.

It was produced with Adam Dutkiewicz of Killswitch Engage and featured regular band members including Vincent Bennett on lead vocals next to DL Laskiewicz on lead guitar, Christopher Daniele on rhythm guitar, Seth Coleman on bass guitar. Marking their sixth overall LP with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo handling vocal duties (who has been with the group since their third reunion in 2009), the material here espouses genuine concerns over the increase of AI in modern technology and its careless displacement of artists from varying fields. Emboldened by frenetic, anthemic riffage and soaring melodious hooks, Accept are back to remind all of their vital influence and put every band who've come since back in their quiet little place atop the band's giant shoulders.

Satan Is King (a nod to Kanye West's 'Jesus Is King' released the year prior) is another caustic batch of pummelling d-beat punk funnelled through a rusted scuzzy decanter of hardcore fury and satanic worship, featuring feel good hits of the summer such as 'Copsucker'. In all seriousness, if you find your current hardcore lacking in the blasphemy department or just a tad too sanitised, then look no further than this crushing collection of audible violence from true cavern crawlers of the underground.

Review: Following on from last year's critically acclaimed self-titled debut album, Los Angeles-based self-described "ecstatic black metal" outfit Agriculture return with a new EP titled Living Is Easy. Expanding their wall-of-sound sonics even further to conjure a form of saccharine abrasion with barrages of tremolo guitar-picking, blast-beating triumphant fury that echoes the likes of Deafheaven or Liturgy in their most epic moments, this is a form of metallic extremity crafted to help espouse negativity, not through negative sonics but by re-channelling said sonics through dexterous and uplifting cataclysms of audible euphoria. This 12" pressing is also coupled with the band's 2022 debut EP The Circle Chant, which has never been available on vinyl before now.

Review: Los Angeles based self-described "ecstatic black metal" outfit Agriculture are slowly becoming one the most talked about acts in the extreme metal underground, with near hysteric levels of hype growing for their self-titled debut full-length. Signing to The Flenser, a label known for its championing of the leftfield extremity of artists such as Chat Pile and Mamaleek, it's no real surprise that so many in the scene are gravitating toward the group's euphoric and uplifting re-interpretation of black metal motifs. With tremolo picking, blast beats and howling vocal shrieks all angled in such a sonic manner to feel enveloping and warm as opposed to the traditional frosted machinations of the genre, as well as the vulnerable poetics on display, Agriculture make a strong case for the Venn Diagram intersections which can often occur between the realms of black metal, screamo and post-rock, but they do so in such a nuanced manner as for it to feel blissfully cohesive and utterly natural.

Review: Alcest's latest album Les Chants de L'Aurore' is a transcendent journey amidst the chaos of modernity. Originating in the quaint French town of Bagnols-sur-Ceze, Alcest, led by the visionary Neige, defy the confines of heavy music by blending darkness with radiant light. Since their groundbreaking debut in 2007, they've captivated with a unique fusion of beauty and extreme metal, influencing a generation of "blackgaze" artists. Released amidst global turmoil in 2019, Les Chants de L'Aurore now arrives on vinyl and emerges as a beacon of hope. Recorded intimately yet expansively, it reinvigorates Alcest's signature sound for a new era. Amid existential reflections, Neige crafts euphoric melodies, counteracting darkness with love and positivity. Five years in the making, this album represents a profound evolution, resonating with both gentle charm and fierce conviction. In a world hungry for solace, Les Chants de L'Aurore offers a sanctuary of beauty.

Review: With the latest release of 2024's triumphant Les Chants de l'Aurore, label Nuclear Blast have opted to reissue the 2019 predecessor project from French post-black metal/blackgaze pioneers Alcest. Spiritual Instinct initially marked only the second time the band's live bassist Indria Saray had performed on record following on from his in-studio inclusion on 2016's Kodama, while musically, the material is noted for continuing to restore some of the previously eschewed metallic malevolence absent from their previous efforts. This restoration reembraces cataclysmic blastbeats and despair-laden vocal shrieks yet reliably subdued, compressed and drowned under swathes of shoegaze haze and bombastic yet lilting crescendos. In short, no one makes black metal sound as pretty as the French.

Alive Cooper's 1971 classic Killer was his fourth studio album during a truly unstoppable period for the Detroit rocker. He clocked up consecutive platinum-selling albums as well as five Top 40 hits such 'I'm Eighteen,' 'School's Out' and 'No More Mr. Nice Guy.' This reissue comes alongside a reissue of the 1972 album School's Out and has been newly remastered with the addition of rare recordings and previously unreleased live performances. This one topped out at #21 on the Billboard albums chart and featured hit singles such as 'Under My Wheels' and 'Be My Lover' as well as a prog-rock-inspired epic in the shape of 'Halo Of Flies.'

Three decades later their seminal sophomore effort, Dirt sounds as good as it ever did and gets an anniversary reissue to mark the occasion. It comes with plenty of powerful drums and big-ass basslines as well as yelping vocals and fuzzy textures that take in a range of emotions and even bigger riffs. This issue features a special insert and comes across four sides of vinyl so it's nice and loud, just as intended.

Featuring some of the band's most classic cuts such as, 'Them Bones', 'Down In A Hole', 'Rooster', and, 'Junkhead', to name but a few; the incomparable dynamic of Wayne Staley's iconic vocals and cryptic, yet brutally honest lyricism combined with guitarist Jerry Cantrell's mammoth riffs and delicate nuance, still resides high in the echelons of alternative rock three decades on. For lifers and newcomers alike, this 30-year anniversary edition serves as an ideal opportunity to revisit a genuine classic, far murkier and riddled with antagonistic depths than any of its would-be peers.

Review: Alice In Chains' 2009 release, Black Gives Way to Blue, marks a significant moment for the bandia poignant farewell to the late Layne Staley and the beginning of a new chapter with vocalist William Duvall. The album opens with 'All Secrets Known,' a track that signals a fresh start, with lyrics like 'Hope. A new beginning,' underscoring the band's evolution. Jerry Cantrell's guitar work remains as powerful as ever, driving the album with emotional intensity, particularly in tracks like 'Your Decision,' where the raw honesty in the lyrics is striking. Duvall's contributions shine, especially on 'Last of My Kind,' where he brings a new energy to the group without attempting to replicate Staley's iconic voice. The title track, 'Black Gives Way to Blue,' is a heart-wrenching tribute to Staley, featuring a sparse yet haunting arrangement with piano by Elton John. The song's quiet fade-out leaves a lasting impact, a fitting close to an album that balances grief with renewal. Black Gives Way to Blue not only honours Alice In Chains' legacy but also sets a strong foundation for their future, proving that the band's creative spirit remains unbroken.

Produced by Stone Temple Pilots' Robert and Dean DeLeo, the album features a raw and powerful sound, with tracks like '1000 Days' and 'Drifting Apart' showcasing the band's heavy riffs and dynamic songwriting. Review: Ones to watch in 2025, according to BBC Introducing, double-MOBO Award nominated sisters Nyrobi and Chaya, AKA ALT BLK ERA claim to be "redefining music" with their fusion of rock, house, drum & bass, rap and pop. They're certainly making enough noise to start a mini revolution, with the months preceding Rave Immortal seeing them blow up at events like Glastonbury, Download, and the Reading-Leeds weekenders. Sonically there's not much more to add - this is a rabid, in-your-face, high tempo amalgamation of sound that calls to mind the likes of NERVO, Pendulum, Enter Shikari, and to a lesser extent Prodigy. All convention-defying names, the fact ALT BLK ERA are also big advocates of disability rights and inclusivity within the music industry also paints them, sadly, as necessary outsiders.

Review: Alter Bridge's debut album made a bold statement when it first arrived in 2004, showcasing a dynamic shift from the members' previous project. With a heavier, more aggressive sound, the band set themselves apart through thick basslines, intricate melodies and fiery guitar work. Myles Kennedy's commanding voice elevates the album, blending seamlessly with the instrumental intensity. 'Metalingus', remains a defining moment, pairing pounding drums with razor-sharp riffs that build to an explosive energy. Its enduring appeal is evident in its inclusion across various media, cementing its place as a fan favorite. Tracks like 'Open Your Eyes' and 'Broken Wings' balance the album's raw power with heartfelt emotion, offering a glimpse of the band's versatility. This deluxe reissue breathes new life into the album, adding five live recordings that capture the electrifying energy of the band's performances. The live versions of 'One Day Remains' and 'Burn It Down' amplify the album's intensity on the last side of this release. These additions highlight Alter Bridge's ability to bring their studio craftsmanship to the stage, delivering performances that resonate deeply with fans.

Review: One of the key releases of the first wave of the New Wave of British heavy metal, the self-titled Angel Witch debut full-length, has long been heralded, praised, analysed and remembered as a vital contribution to the world of metallic machinations since its initial 1980 release. Inspiring waves of black metal, thrash, death and almost any other form of sonic extremity one can lay their ears upon, the work was misunderstood by many not prepared for the monumental surge in popularity the metal scene would ride over the ensuing decades. That being said, the project had those who would fight its corner, with its credence eventually leading to the same regard as say, Iron Maiden's self-titled affair, yet channelling far darker avenues of influence. Chalk most of the genre's expansion throughout the 80s, and you'll always circle back to this monumental classic.

Review: When guitar virtuoso, Tosin Abasi, expanded his Animals As Leaders project into a fully fledged trio with the help of bassist Javier Reyes and drummer Matt Garstka, it signalled a turning point in modern progressive metal.

Eschewing vocals, aggression or any and all pitfalls of the burgeoning djent scene, to conjure a groove-oriented sound built upon cohesion, complexity and creativity.

Falling somewhere between Meshuggah and Steely Dan, this self-titled debut is still considered by many to be the ultimate masterclass in math adjacent progressive rock and metal, influencing a slew of artists such as Chon, Covet and Strawberry Girls. One listen to 'CAFO' and it'll be clear how these dizzying, funky, utterly danceable pieces operate.

Review: Dividing critics on its initial release - review scores veering from 2/5 to 4.5/5 - Annihilator were always going to be one of those bands you either loved or forgot about pretty quickly. In many ways, this 1990 sophomore album is the epitome of where stadium heavy metal had been for the last few years, the sort of tracks that seem to launch from the starting blocks and scarcely look up from the riffs. In other ways, there's a lot here pointing towards the genre's immediate future, too.

Reading into things and then reading them again aside, what's really important is the quality of execution, and in this context the Ontario, Canada, band are on top form. Running at breakneck speed, every cymbal crash, each staccato kick drum pattern is not only in the perfect place for what they want to achieve, it's delivered with the gusto of an outfit who simply don't know how to let up.

Review: The third full-length from Canada's greatest thrash metal act, Annihilator, was met with initial puzzlement upon its release in 1993. 'Set The World On Fire' saw the band straw away from the more metallic route of albums such as 'Alice In Hell', in favour of a more radio-friendly approach. Time working its nostalgic magic has led to cuts like, 'Knight Jumps Queen', and, 'Brain Dance', becoming live staples since, while many have grown to appreciate the expansive and accessible scope the project exuded. The final full-length to feature bassist Wayne Darley, as well as their final work with renowned metal label Roadrunner, this reissue comes at a retrospective time where artists can cherish their once misunderstood works, and offer them up to new legions of eager, less judgemental fans.

Review: Arguably, one of the most vital thrash metal albums of all time, the debut full-length from Canadian legends, Annihilator, was the first and final project to feature vocalist extraordinaire, Randy Rampage, until his return on 1999's, 'Criteria For A Black Widow.' Falling somewhere between the glammy, inescapable essence of late eighties hair metal, and a deeper, darker atmosphere than even their more blatant peers in Slayer or Metallica could muster, 'Alice In Hell', still stands today as an integral, essential contribution to the metal world. Any self-respecting metalhead should either be well versed with this record, or pre-ordering a copy right this second.

The iconic thrash metal outfitifeaturing Joey Belladonna, Scott Ian, Frank Bello and Charlie Benanteidelivers a potent blend of untamed aggression and melodic hooks. Recorded with longtime producer Jay Ruston, the 11 tracks offer a powerful and socially conscious take on heavy metal, tackling themes of religious fanaticism and personal responsibility. Singles like 'Evil Twin' and 'Breathing Lightning' showcase the band's signature sound: a relentless barrage of riffs, thunderous drums and Belladonna's soaring vocals.

Review: Originally released in 1995, Stomp 442 would serve as the 17th full-length from one of the Big 4 of thrash metal; Anthrax, who at this point were truly beginning to gel with vocalist John Bush following his introduction and replacing of longtime frontman Joey Belladonna in 1992. Marking their second album with Bush after 1993's criminally underappreciated Sound Of White Noise, the project is also noted for being their first without lead guitarist Dan Spitz (with an uncredited Meat Loaf axeman Paul Crook handling shred duties), and lends itself to a far more groove metal indebted style. Likely reflecting the mid-nineties mainstream success of acts such as Rage Against The Machine and Faith No More, when juxtaposed with their reliable brand of thrashing speed metal, Stomp turns into a funky, frenetic anomaly that fans and uncertain followers have all warmed to in the later years.

We're A Happy Family
Review: Originally released in 2003, We've Come For You All would serve as the much-lauded ninth full-length from one of the Big 4 of thrash metal, New York City's Anthrax. The first work from the band to feature Rob Caggiano on lead guitar while being their final effort with vocalist John Bush following his tenure throughout the 90s on Sound Of White Noise (1993), Stomp 442 (1995) and Volume 8: The Threat Is Real (1998), the material came after a brief self-imposed hiatus that saw the band reroute their course with a unique amalgam of groove-oriented, alternative hard rock injected into their frenetic signature thrash formula. Adored by fans as a welcome return to form, the album also boasted some varied pedigree with regards to guest features, including Roger Daltrey of The Who lending his vocals to 'Taking The Music Back', while Anthony Martini of New Jersey hardcore heroes E-Town Concrete would appear on 'Refuse To Be Denied', yet it's the inclusion of the late, great Pantera axeman Dimebag Darrell (only one year before his tragic and untimely passing) on 'Cadillac Rock Box' and 'Strap It On' that have both become metal legacy pieces in their own right.

Review: Since the unveiling of their decrepit debut EP Granular Transformation at the end of 2020, Californian doom-tinged tech-death brutalists Apparition have become a hushed name and recommended extremity amongst the caverns of audible ugliness. Following on from 2021's insidious and unsettling full-length LP Feel, the band return with Disgraced Emanations From A Tranquil State; a monolithic opus set to eclipse any of the muted hope of their previous material. Dissecting forms of early psychedelic proto-doom, but with the sole intention of re-channelling those fuzzed out sonics into abyssal swathes of complex, heaving dread, this isn't your beer-chugging, whiplash-headbanging gross out death metal (while there's always a place for that). Rather, this is a cosmic realm of Lovecraftian variety, designed to enthral, impress, touch, harrow, and haunt in equal measure. Arriving courtesy of Canadian extreme metal peddlers Profound Lore, no refunds will be offered for those lost to the abyss.
