Review: Our latest favourite "purveyor of globally attuned laidback funk" is not from Quebec but Manchester, despite the name Peace Hooper. Topping up their now quite esteemable pile for Sound Exhibitions comes 'Royal Bee', the latest set of toolbar b-breaks trouncers for just about everyone to enjoy. The A-side is a relick of Joe Cutler and E-Man's 'It's Yours', going way, way back to an obscurity of nearly impossible veracity: "what makes you journey into the night and take flight on a pursuit of musical bliss?" 'Close Lick', meanwhile, backs up the backside with an even less-determinate but undeniably lowriding remix, complete with spinback samples and an Afro-diasporic call and response.

Review: Two more hard-hitting breaks hotworks from Manchester's Peace Hooper, complementing in synchrony his 'Royal Bee' 7" also out at the same time through Sound Exhibitions. Here we've 'Superfunkula', a not-too-shabby stack of big-hit pianos and walking bass, and 'So Easy', a pan-fluting, blast-from-the-past rework of SBTRKT's 'New Dorp. New York', with the indomitable topline: "my girl's got a city to run". The latter is especially an electro funk rerub of an otherwise deep hip house track we'd never predict could work so well.
