Review: Brother II was an exceptional synth-boogie band in the early 1980s that were formed by, ahem, brothers J. and M. Soso. Their track 'You Was Born' stands as a real gem of of the era that cooly embodies the essence of boogie funk when synths defined the musical landscape. The track's infectious bassline is effortlessly grooving and paired with an unshakeable rhythm and a rich, dominant synth-driven vibe. As a foundational sound of the genre back then, 'You Was Born' is a rather overlooked gem.

Review: Like boogie? Then you will love this. 'What's My Return on Love' is a standout boogie banger from 1983 that was produced by the renowned Donald Burnside. The original release is an ultra-rare and highly sought-after 7" that remains a prized collector's item so all hail this reissue. It includes a previously unreleased dub version by Tony Massera on the B-side, which gives the song a fresh twist while maintaining its infectious groove. With its hip-swinging drums and claps, funky bassline and brilliant 80s synth sounds as well as buttery vocals, this track embodies the essence of early boogie and is an absolute no-brainer for your collection.

Review: Throwing back to the 80s' continuation of disco as it is done properly, PBT Records remember the due contributions of Shock, the *incroyable* funk band masterminded by Marlon McClain and Roger Sause. The 'Lies' EP is an extended version of the mega-rare, expensive, expansive 12" released in 2011 on Boogie Times, which is in turn an expanded edition of the original version, whose first edition came in 1984. That tracks like this should resonate through the decades with such force comes as no surprise. This new one also comes with a splendid reedition by Tony Massera of lead tune 'You Got The Love', whose re-editing skills are as adroit as a bionic hand.
