Review: You could probably write a dissertation, if not full thesis, on the symbolism of this album. The biggest name in British chart pop compilations, NOW, turns its hand to spotlighting less obvious tracks from the decade that gave birth to the entire franchise. What this reflects, in terms of what constitutes 'popular' music today, and the questionable relevance of the UK Top 40, is a fascinating train of thought.
Musically speaking, the curators have done a decent job in selecting a broad range of artists, bands and sounds from the fertile grounds of the 1980s. Plenty here are household names - The Stranglers, Devo, Siouxsie & The Banshees, The Smiths, Eurythmics, Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart. Nevertheless, you won't find 'Sweet Dreams' on the track list, and instead rarer archive material is allowed to shine: 'Vicious Games' rather than 'Oh Yeah' by Yello, The Cure's stunning 'A Forest' - we could go on.

Review: NOW's latest addition to the Yearbook series, Yearbook 1993, is a nostalgic journey through a stellar year of pop music. This compilation features 44 tracks on 3 LPs, showcasing the diversity and creativity of 1993. The collection opens with Freddie Mercury's posthumous #1 hit 'Living On My Own' and includes Pet Shop Boys' 'Can You Forgive Her?'. Highlights also feature Duran Duran's 'Come Undone', Take That's first #1 'Pray', and Ace Of Base's global smash 'All That She Wants'. Disc Two kicks off with Radiohead's 'Creep' and Suede's 'So Young', and includes hits from Paul Weller, Paul McCartney, and The Bluebells. Dance anthems from M People, Dina Carroll, and Jamiroquai energize the mix. Disc Three celebrates rock and alt-pop with Meat Loaf's 'I'd Do Anything For Love', Bon Jovi, and The Cranberries, alongside soulful ballads from Gabrielle and Shara Nelson. The final disc features anthems like Duran Duran's 'Ordinary World', Pet Shop Boys' 'Go West', and dance hits from Robin S and Haddaway. Pop legends like Bananarama, Kim Wilde, and Elton John cap off this celebration of 1993's pop brilliance. Yearbook 1993 captures the essence of an unforgettable year in music.

Review: The seventh and final installment of this vinyl series hones in on tracks that are sure to keep the dancefloor packed. Pressed on striking transparent blue and green vinyl, this 2LP set is a pulsating collection of club classics that defined the era's nightlife, bridging disco, funk, house, electro, pop and hip-hop into an irresistible sonic melting pot. Side-A starts off with winner and Inner City's euphoric house staple 'Good Life', setting the pace for an album steeped in dancefloor euphoria. Kym Mazelle and Robert Howard's soulful 'Wait' and Coldcut's 'People Hold On' with Lisa Stansfield show the decade's seamless blend of house and pop, while 'Pump Up The Volume' by M/A/R/R/S redefined sampling's role in dance music. S'Express's 'Theme from S-Express' and Bomb The Bass's 'Beat Dis' bring explosive energy, while Technotronic and Rob 'n' Raz keep the tempo high with their club anthems. Late-'80s remix culture shines as Chaka Khan's 'I'm Every Woman' get a modernised update while PWL's glossy, synth-driven touch on 'Sandra' shines brightly. 80s dance legends Bananarama and Samantha Fox are also have vital appearances to the collection. LP2 dives into hip-hop-infused dance with Soul II Soul's 'Back To Life', Ten City's deep-house masterpiece 'That's The Way Love Is' and Neneh Cherry's genre-defying 'Buffalo Stance'. The finale is pure club gold: 'The Only Way Is Up' by Yazz, the thunderous 'Blue Monday '88', and 'Fools Gold' by The Stone Roses. Closing with 808 State's 'Pacific State' and The Beloved's 'Sun Rising', Floorfillers is a flawless time capsule of dance music's late-80s evolution. This double pack is steeped in history while being an excellent range of styles that made the 80s so remarkable.

Review: The NOW series was a rite of passage for many young music lovers. The expertly curated releases came several times a year and gave you an update as to what was hot and what was not - a mad idea in this day and age when everyone can access, if not own, everything ever released the moment it drops. The brand has pivoted well in the digital age and is still putting out collections of sounds with a genre or era focus that are handy and enjoyable reminders. This bumper collection on triple green vinyl is all about 1974 with tunes like 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me' and 'Whatever Gets You Thru The Night' still well worth a singalong.

Review: This compilation serves as a sonic time capsule, collecting the raw energy and diversity a 70s scene with its roots in the UK's suburban music scene. Across three LPs, it highlights punk, post-punk, new wave and ska with an expertly curated tracklist that celebrates both iconic anthems and underground gems. Kicking off with explosive tracks like 'London Calling' and 'Blitzkrieg Bop', the first side sets the tone with pure punk energy. From the urgency of The Undertones 'Teenage Kicks' to the melancholic beauty of Joy Division's 'Love Will Tear Us Apart', it's a journey through the era's emotional spectrum. The inclusion of The Cure's 'Boys Don't Cry' and XTC's 'Making Plans For Nigel' shows the post-punk shift toward introspection and innovation. The second LP leans into eclecticism, blending punk-fueled energy to melodic classics. It captures the intersection of rebellion and refinement. Tracks like Martha And The Muffins' 'Echo Beach' and Pretenders 'Brass In Pocket' add a touch of sophistication with a broader palette of sounds. Finally, the third LP celebrates the ska revival and early synth-pop with The Specials 'Gangsters', English Beat's 'Mirror In The Bathroom' and UB40's 'Food For Thought', before transitioning into more futuristic sounds like Gary Numan's 'Are 'Friends' Electric?' and The Buggles 'Video Killed The Radio Star'. Ending with a nod to the dawn of a new musical era, this collection balances nostalgia with a depth not many others get close to.

Review: NOW That's What I Call 80s Dancefloor: Pure Pop is a vibrant collection of 1980s dance-pop classics, spread across two LPs in stunning pink and blue vinyl. Side-1 begins with Stock, Aitken and Waterman hits like Bananarama's 'I Heard A Rumour', Mel & Kim's debut 'Showing Out (Get Fresh At The Weekend)', and Rick Astley's timeless 'Never Gonna Give You Up'. Adding to the mix are Debbie Gibson's 'Shake Your Love' and iconic movie tracks like Ray Parker Jr.'s 'Ghostbusters' and Kenny Loggins' 'Footloose'. Side-2 keeps the energy going with Whitney Houston's 'So Emotional', Diana Ross's celebratory 'I'm Coming Out', and Boogie Box High's 'Jive Talkin''. Miami Sound Machine's 'Conga!' and DeBarge's 'Rhythm Of The Night' infuse Latin-disco energy, while Shalamar's 'I Can Make You Feel Good' and Five Star's 'Can't Wait Another Minute' close out the side. The second record features Blondie's 'Rapture', Kim Wilde's 'You Came', and Laura Branigan's 'Gloria'. Hi-NRG pop tracks from Tight Fit, Dollar, Hazell Dean, and Sinitta lead to Sonia's chart-topping 'You'll Never Stop Me Loving You'. The last side celebrates Euro-pop hits like Ryan Paris's 'Dolce Vita', Baltimora's 'Tarzan Boy', and London Boys' 'London Nights'. UK disco favorites from The Nolans, Kelly Marie, and Liquid Gold wrap up this lively collection. An essential addition for any 80s music enthusiast, this limited edition release promises a nostalgic dance journey.

Review: The much loved NOW series has provided the soundtrack to many young people's lives over the decades and despite the changes in the way we all consume and purchase music, it seems to be thriving. It is currently in there middle of serving up bumper overviews of certain musical decades and this latest vast collection, NOW: Millennium 2004-2005, comes across four sides of yellow and white vinyl. This is pure and unadulterated pop from the biggest names in the game such as The Shapeshifters, Snow Patrol, Keane, George Michael and many more. A fun one for sure.

Review: For those of you of a certain age, the Now compilations are an immediate shot of nostalgia direct into your bones. They started back in the 80s and kept going well into the new millennium - great sources of fun for current dance and pop hits with occasional dalliances into more specific collections. This one is a 1984 Yearbook that rounds up the very many hits of that year including Ray Parker Jr's 'Ghostbusters,' Philip Oakey & Giorgio Moroder's 'Together In Electric Dreams' and the superb Eurythmics, Annie Lennox & Dave Stewart gem 'Here Comes The Rain Again.' A great reminder of the good old days of pop.

Review: The NOW Series was a core part of the British music scene for many years from the 70s onwards. Its lovingly assembled compilations were a great wind into what was hot way before we all had access to every single bit of recorded music from the whole history of time all at the tip of our fingers. They continue to find relevance with their various collections and this one, Yearbook, focuses on the super sounds of the 80s, specifically 1988. It comes on nice translucent blue vinyl across six, yes six, sides. All the artists that you would expect are present and very correct.

Review: NOW Music is on with a big project here that sees the long-running label present a new series of vinyl compilations, NOW That's What I Call 80s Dancefloor. Each one is set to include what they deem to be "an essential collection of tracks" that they hope offer fair representation of a number of key musical movements and genres from across the 80s. The first volume presented the best in HI-NRG and POP and this one, a double album, focusses on Soul & Disco. All the names you'd expect are here from Prince to Daryl Hall & John Oates, Loose Ends to Rufus & Chaka Khan, so it is a useful one indeed.

Review: The legendary NOW series is still going strong despite the fact that the music industry and how we access and listen to music has changed immeasurably since they first started way back in the 17th century (maybe.) Now they focus on serving up complete compendiums and comprehensive overviews of entire genres or decades. This NOW: Yearbook 1990 comes across three slabs of orange vinyl with names like Dee-Lite, Dusty Springfield, Duran Duran, Bass-O-Matic and many more all present and correct. If nothing else it is a great trip down memory lane and fine resource for jobbing DJs.

Review: The Now collections have long been a staple of pretty much everyone's lives. In some cases, they are an introduction to the music of the day for young people looking to broaden their horizons and they have always nailed that MO. Now the series is so old they are also great for looking back on a time to get a good overview of what was going on. Here it is the 80s in the spotlight with endless amounts of singalong classics including from the likes of Phil Collins, Aretha Franklin, Bronchi Beat, Eurythmics, Fine Young Cannibals and many more. It's a fun and nostalgic listen, to be sure.

Other great hits include Snow Patrol's 'Chasing Cars,' Britney Spears' 'Gimme More,' songs by Keane, The Killers, Fall Out Boy's 'Sugar, We're Goin Down,' and The Zutons' 'Valerie.' Review: Hardened music nerds may roll their eyes at the thought of the Now That's What I Call Music series turning its attention to disco, but this quintuple LP compilation does provides a great starting point for those dipping their toes into the sound for the first time or looking to grow their disco collection. A few needless pop hits aside, the set contains a wealth of sing-along party favourites ('Car Wash' by Rose Royce, Diana Ross's 'Upside Down', Lipps Inc's throbbing 'Funky Town' etc.) and genuine disco anthems that still get regular airings on club dancefloors today (Thelma Houston's 'Don't Leave Me This Way', Candi Staton's 'Nights On Broadway', Cheryl Lynn's 'Got To Be Real' and Sylvester's 'You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)' included).
