Beatconductor Reworks (white vinyl 10")

Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. A Message For Love
  2. Boogie Love
Review: Those record buyers out there of a certain vintage will see the name Beatconducter on this 12" and remark what a coup it is for KAT to secure the man for their 20th release. Along with Red Astaire, Ture Sjoberg's Beatconductor edits helped establish GAMM as a powerhouse label for beat favouring selectors a decade ago. Of course he's remained a strong conductor of the beat in subsequent years under a variety of aliases (check out the Beatfanatic stuff if you can) and he brings his wise disco knowledge to the fore on these two edits. A side track "A Message Of Love" is a gospel stormer that leans on Ashford & Simpson's fantastic live outing of "The Boss," whilst "Boogie Love" revisits Lulu's "I Love To Boogie" beefing up the break, stretching and teasing before the rather ace vocal comes in and takes hold.

Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Bebe (5:04)
  2. Marie Terese (4:57)
  3. Gamodi (4:54)
Review: With this tasty collection of sticky, tropical-minded reworks, edit kings KAT Records welcome a new name to the roster. Hatsvali is a new alias for the Georgian duo Rotkraft, who previously released throbbing house and nu-disco jams on Nurvous and Kompakt Extra. We're particularly enjoying A-side "Bebe", where jaunty horns, flash-fried guitars and Loleatta Holloway vocal samples rise above a chunky, tropical funk groove. Flip for the gently housed-up Cambodian disco-funk flex of "Marie Terese" and "Gamodi", a sweet, shuffling and gently dubbed-out interpretation of what sounds like a dewy-eyed old French disco record. Fine floor-filling fare, all told.

Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Oh Mon Amour (6:04)
  2. Weekend Mouille (5:42)
  3. Ecoute Mon Coeur (5:40)
  4. Soul Ma Coco (5:49)
Review: Dr Love is a veteran tastemaker and vinyl junkie on the Montreal scene, while Laura Ingalls is a wandering French person of no specific sex that has recently landed in the French Canadian city. They both bonded over their love of anything disco and poutine: the main local dish which consists of potato, cheese curds and gravy. Dr Love likes to dig, but doesn't really produce while Laura Ingalls is not the most efficient digger and only seems to unearth old Folk and obscure Arabic music for their personal collection - but has serious production skills. On "Oh Mon Amour" they sample a very hard to find classic from the famous Parisian disco Le Palace in the early 80's: when it was released while "Weekend Mouille" is an odd jazz disco thing from the mid 70's. On the flip, "Soul Ma Coco" is said to be a cover of a certain Manu Dibango track. This version kept the melody and changed the lyrics slightly.
