Review: Arcane and esoteric sounds abound on New Jersey house outsider Joey Anderson's third full length opus 'Rainbow Doll', where he returns to Los Angeles via Berlin-based Avenue 66 for the first time since 2013 when he presented their inaugural release. It also happens to be the first album in four years by the Inimeg boss and his most personal work to date, where his emotional vocals can be heard atop deeply meditative jams like "Beside Me", and likewise on the woozy and knackered groove of "Ocean" accompanied by washes of live analogue synth riffs. Further hypnotism awaits on the bass-driven echo mania of "Live It" and the life-affirming elation of "Cindy" - being another fine example of Anderson's penchant for truly spiritual music. Highly recommended.

Deep House
  1. Man On Wire (8:51)
  2. Man On Wire (reconstruction) (6:25)
  3. Hidden Track (9:01)
Review: After a smashing debut EP by Joey Anderson back in 2013, the Avenue 66 label returns with a follow-up from Lowtec, Workshop Records frontman and Leipzig's finest alongside Kassem Mosse and Mix Mup. As expected from the man, "Man On Wire" is a mechanical beast, a downtempo jam whose groove is barely held together by mild pads and wavey melodies, while the "reconstruction" version throws in a pseudo four-to-the-floor kick to throw that ambience into shape. On the flip, "Hidden Track" is a shady, percussion-driven house masterpiece filled with the right sort of minimalism and plenty of gorgeous instrumentation. This is Lowtec doing what he does best, don't miss it.

Review: Like many electronic musicians, Stefan "SW" Wust has kept himself busy during the ongoing global pandemic. Here he presents the first fruits of his lockdown labours, a brand-new full-length excursion via Acid Test offshoot Avenue 66. It's a typically eccentric affair, mixing rave-igniting, retro-futurist heaviness with deeper, slower and jazzier cuts informed by the 1990s chill-out movement. Club-focused highlights include twisted, dubbed-out and acid-fired opener 'ELEctreC', the sub-heavy post-D&B skittishness of 'meanDreaMbeam' and the mutant hardcore breakbeat quirkiness of 'radeDARKpaid', while those seeking more horizontal fare should take a gander at luscious ambient closing cut 'ambienTRAND', the soothing and seductive 'JAZZmassLESS' and the immersive, Pete Namlook-influenced 'esCAPEdeepCREEP'.

Review: Following up an impressive debut on Baaz's Office Recordings in 2016, the mysterious Trux return with a collection of dubby ambient electronica and experimentalism on Orbiter, for Avenue 66 - which has previously presented works by Joey Anderson and Lowtec. This diverse album takes in a wide variety of moods: lush and aquatic deep techno as heard on the title track or "My Row". Tracks like "Blinko" are hazy, texturised, beatless excursions geared for armchair journeys, while "In My World" or "Angoma" respectively delve deep into exotic electronica - much in the vein of artists on French label Antinote. A stunning and cohesive effort which indeed has been very much worth the wait.
