Review: 'Kajyadhi-fu bushi' is actually a Japanese wedding song. It was first written and recorded in 1977 by Jazz man Jun Arasaki and his Nine Sheep collective. They did it in one take - which is the one you hear here - across an array of unusual (at least here in the west) instruments such as five sanshin, four winds, piano, bass, percussion and drums. It's a sombre, slow-motion lullaby that is imbued with subtle joy. Next to the original, a Visible Cloaks remix up the ambient beauty and makes it feel more cosmic and expansive.

Review: London-based funk-mongers Original Gravity serve up some serious Latin heat from the mighty Luchito and Nestor Alvarez. Both artists were last on the label earlier this year for the Latin Fever Vol. 2 single, and now they're back with more life-affirming bursts of funk. Luchito takes up the A side with two tracks - 'Broasted Or Toasted' is a cool-as-you-like bit of jazzy beatdown with some sweet flute, while 'Hey Guajira Baby' is a singalong anthem rendered in the sweetest salsa tones. Alvarez is on the flip with the pattering bongo magic of 'Bang The Bongo Side' and the heavy groove of 'Lupita', which sounds like it's packed with deadly breaks for those who still like a little crate digging.

Krivit is responsible for perhaps some of the earliest and most significant disco and funk edits on Earth, so we're more than happy to hear these new ones out, in which he lends his ear to two mambi from Latin extraordinaires Sabu Martinez and Nico Gomez. Percussive clanks and boxy slaps abound on this audiophiles' charm.

Review: Percussionist Takashi Nakazato is no newcomer to the Japanese nu-jazz scene, having been a regular contributor to Jazztronik records since the dawn of the millennium. Pista Libra Parts 1 & 2, though, is his debut solo 7". He kicks things off with Part 1, when ascending and descending Latin piano lines and snaking sax solos ride his own impeccable, salsa-tinged percussion. As the track progresses, Nakazato introduces some delightful jazz guitars, too. On the flip, "Part 2" is an altogether heavier beast, with Nakazato fully showcasing his range of percussion skills while sharp funk guitars and manic drum solos rage above. It sounds like the sort of sweaty jazz-dance workout that many would associate with British percussionist Snowboy.

Review: Once of the more creative jazz singers, Nanette Natal was active in the mid-'70s after switching from a career as a classical singer in the 1960s. .Originally released in 1981, both of the tracks on this dynamite 7" are taken from the private press album My Song of Something. They feature outstanding vocal work over high energy, superbly kinetic jazz dance grooves that brim and bristle with more energy than a whole junior school full of children after too many sweets. This marks the first tie these two classic jazz bangers have made it to their own 7".

Review: WallenBink line up another hugely collectable 7" from the Nathan Davis Quintet here, this time on audiophile vinyl. Recorded in 1965, 'Happy Girl' has remained unissued on wax ever since then. It was made by a first rate collective including the likes of Woody Shaw on trumpet and Larry Young, who is often said to be "the Coltrane of the organ." 'Theme From Zoltan' is a superb modal original and on the flip side is another uptempo working in the form of 'Mister E,' which was written by Nathan, and is packed with high grade solos. This limited edition pressing was transfered from analogue mastertapes.

Review: Nathan Davis's quotient is a superb one featuring Francy Boland on piano, Jimmy Woode on bass and Kenny Clarke on drums.The 70s jazz cat also called upon school friend and trumpeter Carmell Jones for this one (just before he went on to record the famous Song for My Father album with Horace Silver). Now on 45 for the first time ever and transfer from original analogue master tapes, it comes with authentically recreated artwork on heavyweight sleeves. The music is truly beautiful, swinging jazz with soprano sounds and a tight rhythm section that never lets up.

Review: The Social Joy label has dropped a couple of low key, high grade jazz cuts from Guilhem Monin and Remi Mazet in the past few years. Now the label fires up after a couple of years silence with this gorgeous gathering of contemporary grooves from London-based band Natural Lateral. Tapping into the buoyant sound emanating out of enlightened clubs and studios in the UK capital, this promising outfit present the kind of instant, groove-oriented jazz that will have old heads and fresh faces nodding in approval. There's a Latin twist to their approach, not least on the oh-so-sweet "46 To Foulden", but there's also space for smoky, mellow moments on the likes of "Days With Amber".

Review: Japan's premier jazz funk covers outfit Nautilus are back on the scene with another 7" of those pristine grooves they lay down so well. They've been busy lately, recording the Serendipity album with Lisa Decker and just releasing the Reconnection album amongst other singles and EPs, but once again they've got more beautifully executed music to impart to the world. 'Skyscrapers' rides on a taut breakbeat and features some slinky bass guitar, striking an ever-so-slightly moody tone. 'Another World' is all about the snappy piano hooks, with the band following dutifully behind each melodic passage and winding up in something sweet and funky - as if you expect any less from this band.

Review: Japanese rare groove merchants Nautilus are back in the wake of their Reconnection album with a new 7" of sweet and smooth jazz funk in their signature style. There's an endlessly crisp quality to the playing and production on Nautilus records which ensures they land with maximum effect. The A side on this new single is 'We Gettin Down', a bright and breezy confection with some choice talk box action, Rhodes and synths in conversation and sprightly beats. 'Nautical Table' gets a little craftier, dealing in skittering drums and nimble piano without losing that clarity we've come to expect from this highly talented group.

Review: Founded in the 60s, still trooping with as much energy, excitement and creativity over 40s year later, NY troupe have re-recorded two of their foundational hits for this very special 45. "Monkey See Monkey Do" has it all... Bossa flavour, warm harmonies and deft lyricism. "La Rumba Se Acabo", meanwhile, is a castanet-clacking carnival piece laced with all manner of piano, glockenspiel and percussion elements. Both are stunning revisits from a band who know truly know their chops.

Review: Earlier this year, veteran composer/producer Janko Nilovicjoined forces with Russian combo the Soul Surfers to deliver Maze of Sounds, a killer collection of fresh library funk sounds. This tidy "45" kicks off with one of the album's most potent tracks, 'Sweet Path', a wonderfully laidback and sun-kissed jazz-funk number rich in simmering strings, chunky bass, eyes-closed jazz guitar and some genuinely lovely group harmony backing vocals. Over on the flip you'll find a fine (and previously unheard) version of album title track 'Maze of Sounds'. This version frames the track as lusciously languid exotica, with slow-motion Hammond B3 lines and echoing guitars atop woodblock clicks, jazzy bass guitar and horizontal funk breaks.
