NOAR 001
NOAR 001 (180 gram vinyl 12" limited to 300 copies)
Cat: NOAR 001. Rel: 28 Jun 23
Friedrich Ernst - "Clone Scratch" (5:01)
The Isolator - "Locknr01" (4:16)
Anachronism - "Lost Control By Distance" (4:31)
Planetary Secrets - "Establishment" (4:26)
KAWA KAWA - "Mon Frere" (3:43)
Otis Key - "Copy Natural Processes At The Nanoscale" (4:55)
Review: NOAR Records goes big for its debut release by enlisting several fresh-thinking producers to contribute one track each to this limited edition VA. It is a brilliantly mixed bag, with Friedrich Ernst's 'Clone Scratch' bringing unsettling electro madness to start and The Isolator's 'Locknr01' exploring more stripped-back and sparse sounds that are built on neck-snapping breaks. Anachronism's 'Lost Control By Distance' is the sort of turbulent sonic climax you get in during the boss battle moments of a sci-fi movie, and a trio of B-side cuts keep up the originality with Planetary Secrets' 'Establishment' a particular highlight.

INNATE 006

Gilbert - "Low Flying Objects" (6:17)
Gilbert - "Unknown Entities" (5:58)
Owain K - "Corona Borealis" (6:57)
Owain K - "New Horizon" (7:01)
Review: The small but already well-formed Innate label offers up a superb split EP for its sixth outing. Gilbert opens up with 'Low Flying Objects', a widescreen and serene bit of synth-laden tendon with more than a hint of Motor City soul over the dusty drums. 'Unknown Entities' is a brain-cleansing and celestial electro-styled cut with dreamy pads and cinematic deepness. Bristol-born, Welsh-rooted Owain K then steps up to the flip with equally painterly sounds. 'Corona Borealis' pairs deep and rubbery bass with crisp electro drum patterns and far-sighted chords. 'New Horizon' then closes out with some delightfully dozy deep house that's laden with wispy chords and undulating bass.

Remember The Future Part Two
LEGACY - "Nom De Guerre" (5:53)
Future Draft - "All That Remains" (3:38)
The Jaffa Kid - "SH-Dinosa" (4:09)
Odpein - "Badass Nostalgia" (5:00)
DJ Tsoug - "You Are The Unfortunate Product Of A Doomed Culture" (4:54)
Happy99 At Gmail Dot Com - "Untitled (2019)" (4:33)
Review: The second part of the Remember The Future series from the Greek label To Pikap is another 12" packed with electro goodness form an array of exciting artists. LEGACY opens up with 'Nom De Guerre' with its magnificently lithe and chrome plated rhythms dancing about over crunchy analogue drums. Future Draft rides a more zoned out and celestial electro vibe on 'All That Remains' and The Jaffa Kid gets into some intricate synth programming and off-grid beat work. Three further cuts on the B-side bring funky, dark and joyous tweaks to the electro format.

Zvestoba EP
Zvestoba EP (12" + insert)
Cat: KRI 006. Rel: 11 Jan 24
Zvestoba (5:13)
Zvestoba (Silent Servant remix) (5:02)
Zvestoba (198319831983 ReKick edit) (6:13)
Zvestoba (Christian Kroupa remix) (5:44)
Zvestoba (Christian Kroupa Naked version) (4:47)
Review: O! Kult was a post-punk and industrial band from Yugoslavia that was active in the 1980s. Like many of their peers at the time, they were censored by the communist party that was in charge but that didn't stop them from making music and gaining a cult following. Their cut 'Zvestoba' has been found in old Radio student archives and brought back to life here and then remixed by modern luminaries Silent Servant, Christian Kroupa (who is one half of Black Dot) and 198319831983. They add weighty tech, EBM and moody electro vibes to make for a strong package.

Invariant Hyperbola

Norma Cluster (6:12)
Invariant Hyperbola (6:41)
Sterile Neutrino (6:42)
Dragonfly44 (6:59)
Review: Swedish producer Ola Obergman has been at the top of his game for over 20 years now, dropping superb electro on the finest labels. Last year he dropped a fantastic full-length album on Pariter, but now steps up to Infiltrate with a direct dance floor offering. 'Norma Cluster' pairs busy drums and bass with more atmospheric leads before 'Invariant Hyperbola' has a perfectly crisp boom-bap that is run through with synth sequences that get your head amongst the stars. 'Sterile Neutrino' is more raw and ragged with another irresistible rhythm and 'Dragonfly44' closes in a thoughtful fashion.

Trance Beckenbauer
Putos Mosquitos
Congarella Di Luna
Analog Garbage
Putos Mosquitos (Inigo Vontier remix)
Congarella Di Luna (Zillas On Acid remix)
Review: If you were a fan, and wouldn't you be, of Blade Runner, then this new 12" from Oblako Maranta will be right up your street. 'Trance Beckenbauer' is the atmospheric open with futurist feels and rising synth arps that suggest drama is to come. There is more weight and rhythm to the dubby 'Putos Mosquitos' with its mosquito-style leads and rumbling bass and elsewhere things get more dark and menacing with the sound of malevolent robots in 'Congarella Di Luna' and pure paranoid dominates the mid-tempo chug of 'Analog Garbage.' Inigo Vontier adds a prying remix while Zillas On Acid keeps it trippy.

The Sequel EP

The Sequel (4:43)
Global Warning (4:27)
Syntax Error (4:14)
Translate (4:24)
But In Time (3:02)
Review: Following a string of inspired releases on Craigie Knowes and Casa Voyager, Driss Bennis brings his OCB project to Juan Atkins' Metroplex label for the first time. He sets his stall out with the up-tempo, Rhodes-laden electro-funk wonder of 'The Sequel', before dousing gorgeous synthesiser melodies and ambient textures in atmospheric field recordings on sunset-ready delight 'Global Warming'. He puts Kraftwerk through the sub-heavy Detroit techno Ringer on the freakishly addictive 'Syntax Error', while 'B2' is an Atkins-esque, acid-flecked sci-fi techno workout. Rounding off a genuinely brilliant EP is 'Built In Time', a wonderfully emotive, jazzy and tactile chunk of downtempo electro lusciousness.

Omar - "Quiero Bailar" (6:18)
Eversines - "Loophole" (6:29)
Dynamic Wave - "Spectroid" (4:18)
Enrica Falqui - "Divine Time" (4:20)
Review: London-based Undersound Recordings serve up four janky, stanky new ones on their latest compilation vinyl, flaunting four tracks of deep, dubby and ploddy electro and hous. Omar Santis, Eversines, Dynamic Wave and Enrica Falqui all come to the fore. Omar's 'Quiero Bailar' sets the weirder tones on the opening track, with its new wavey jaunts and licks and slapdash feel, while Falqui's closing 'Divine Time' proving a neat counterpoint; a no more overthought exercise in wondrous, synaptic ambience.

Kill Born (5:03)
Review: Five tracks from the Ukraine-born Omon Breaker, who hooked after with the BITE label having relocated to Berlin in 2020 following the invasion by Russian forces. The sonic palate is varied, drawing from deeper, darker, sparse techno on 'Aldea Malvada' to more enegetic, trance-like patterns on 'Augmentation' (which also features BITE's labelhead Phase Fatale) and the all out space wars soundtrack of 'Unidentified', laying out asolidyfying aural agenda as the five tracks unfold.

CV Swizzly (4:53)
Vectron (4:06)
Skitter (5:51)
CV Swizzly (Plant43 remix) (6:08)
Review: Ritual Poison's Batrachian sub label welcomes Miles Otto to the fold with some exemplary explorations on the outer reaches of electro. There's a braindance warble to the synth work, but the beats have a decisive crunch and impact which ensures these tracks have been built with the floor in mind. Still, Otto has plenty to say through his melodic passages, whether on the dreamy 'CV Swizzly' or the snappier 'Vectron'. It's fitting that Plant43 is on board for a remix of 'CV Swizzly', given that artist's long-standing commitment to pushing electro forwards in interesting directions. Throughout, we're treated to the highest of high-grade machine funk - highly recommended for anyone in thrall to the machines.

Roulade 3000 - "C'est Party" (6:50)
Occibel - "Give 'Em Some Rest" (6:42)
Hearthug - "Psycho Killa" (Wah-Wah mix) (6:49)
Wooka - "Going Deeper" (6:06)
Review: The Roulade label is doing things right - not only is the music they are serving up superb, but so to do this second 12" comes with great and original artwork. Its neon glow and diffuse light capture the vibes of the synths on the opening cut 'C'est Party' perfectly. It's a melodically rich tech house cut with rubbery bass and great spoken words from a world disco dancing competition. Occibel's 'Give 'Em Some Rest' is busy and dense with whirring sci-fi synths, funky Prince riffs, thudding house beats and plenty of colour. Add in two more equally vibrant and characterful cuts from Hearthug and Wooka on the flip and you have one of the most unique EPs we've heard in some time.

Raw Takes - "116ctro" (4:28)
Ole Mic Odd & Alonzo - "And We Rock" (5:21)
Chupacubras - "Compassion" (6:10)
Review: YTP, Raw Takes, Ole Mic Odd & Alonzo, and Chupacabras are all back once again for some more authentic sounds from the underground. These more than able producers land on a hand-stamped translucent green wax 12" that marks the second installment in the Source Material Various Artist series. Just like the first, this is a monster outing with four searing electro cuts that bring intergalactic warfare to any party. '116ctro' is a visceral cut with corrugated rhythms and zippy synths. 'And We Rock' has a funky broken beat and tons of reverb and 'Compassion' slows it down a touch but has lashing synths and thunderous kicks to keep you moving.
